The Folder Desert.
Looking around, Armand could see nothing but sand all around him and the sun scorching the digital desert enough to burn a tree. Normally, he wouldn't take about 10 minutes to stay under the heat back home. But if it wasn't for the EV suit he bought back at Terminus, he have fainted from heatstroke. Of course, he wasn't here for pleasantries alone. In his attempt to find answers behind Shade's background and why he was chosen as a Spirit Wielder, he searched around the Digital World after work for clues and information about the latter as a whole. It wasn't until finding an antique mirror that was on display in one of the stalls that unlocked a fragment of Shade's lost memories that led them to the Folder Desert.
Right now, he was driving through the desert sand by motorcycle, the very same one that Shade bought after annoying him by controlling his body on a few occasions. He thought it would be a waste of Bytes out of his desires over necessities as a car would be more sufficient when it came to carrying others. But after taking a few test drives with it, he came around it despite it only having one seat. Regardless, it beats walking the whole desert, which was enough for him to scour around it while getting to his destination.
"See anything related to your memories, Shade?" Armand called out as he kept his eyes on the non-existent road in front of him.
There are some ruins not far from here. Take a left and go opposite once you see a small pyramid coming towards you.
The Spirit Wielder followed Shade's instructions and once he turned right by the mentioned pyramid, his eyes widened to see a stone temple that would be normally found in Egypt. Just staring at the height was enough to stop his bike and stared at the pillars and statues of lions at the entrance. "Mon Dieu... You weren't kidding when you said went to a respectable landmark."
Hehe... Told you so. Still, seeing this old building brings back memories. I was the troublemaker back then. I messed around with my mentor and other students back then. But he meant well and I truly respected him as a role model and teacher. Armand then heard his spirit sigh as his tone changed to melancholic. But that was 100 years ago. I already took on the duties as the Warrior of Shadows before my demise and my mentor might have turned into a Digi-Egg a few times or passed on by now.
"Shade..."
Armand frowned. He almost forgot that beyond his mischief and attempts to make his life chaotic, he was still a Digimon who came back as a Spirit after his passing. His friends and family were gone and he was trapped in a world where no one knew him. He didn't know if his words were true. But he felt like tears coming out from his eyes the moment he tried to connect to him.
Right... Crying won't get us anywhere like this. If you want to get stronger, we might as well check it out. Right now, we only have access to my altered younger form. I can't recall what I look like at my full strength, but I know we might get some answers inside.
"Alright, then allons-y."
He parked his motorcycle near the entrance and walked inside. It was a long hallway with walls covered in hieroglyphic-like imagery, except the lettering was somehow similar to the alphabet system he saw back in Terminus. As he trekked through it, he noticed how quiet it was. He could hear nothing but the creaks of the ceiling and water drops nearby. He had an urge to comment, but then, a shadow suddenly jumped in front of him.
"WHO DARES TO ENTER THIS SACRED TEMPLE?!" Armand gasped as he fell on his butt. Looking closely, his would-be attacker was a figure wearing a red robe covering its whole body but its yellow eyes. "If you think you can desecrate the treasures left by the Shadow Warriors, you are sadly mistaken!"
"No, no! Wait!" Armand begged. "I'm not here to steal anything! I'm here because I want to find answers about myself!"
The Digimon raised its non-existent eyebrow. "Yourself, huh? I seem to sense data around that is somehow familiar, yet frustrating. But it's been many years since I sensed his power. He should have passed away by now after what happened..."
Armand tilted his head. "Uh... I do not know what you mentioned. But if you're talking about Shade, he's actually here with me." He took out his Digivice and flashed it to the Digimon. "Well, not alive of sorts, but he's here."
He stared at the device for a while and huffed. "Of all Shadow Warriors I know, that idiot had to bond with you."
Hey, who you were calling an idiot?!
Armand mentally shushed him and turned to the Digimon. "Just to clarify, I didn't expect him to be my Spirit. He told everything from Digimon to Spirits themselves, I think. We were hoping we might find something that may regain his full strength. Well, I'm willing to as long he's not dangerous."
Geez... So much for your trust in me.
"That Spirit you called "Shade", he's not dangerous to everyone. But he was a pain in the neck. Skipping training, pranking other pupils... We're only lucky tomfoolery is limited to petty tricks and mischief," the Digimon complained. "However, I can't deny that he earned the right as a Shadow Warrior through dedication and a genuine desire to protect. Despite everything, he cared about my grandfather and their mentor."
The Digimon sighed and looked around the walls. "But enough of my rambling. He might be an idiot, but I do agree with his sentiments. I can't tell you much, but the Digital World needs the Warrior of Shadows more than ever." He bowed to Armand next. "I am Wisemon, the guardian of the Shadow Temple in the Ancient Ruins. If you wish to gain the true powers as a Spirit Wielder, then you must complete the trial ahead. Are you prepared for the challenges ahead of you, human?"
Armand nodded as he narrowed his eyes. "Yes, sir. And please, sir. Call me Armand."
"Very well. Follow me."
Wisemon escorted the Spirit Wielder inside the temple.
