Tatsuya and Dorumon were descending another canyon in the Western Flatlands, which were anything but flat anyway, due to the intricate geographic accidents that coexisted one next to another. Thus, traveling in those areas was a tiring excercise, but it was also one of the best ways to become stronger, and by Dorumon's petition, they had decided to travel through the area, in search of something interesting: new Tamers, exciting adventures, anything. So far, the area had already challenge them with steep paths and high cliffs, but this time, the descent was promising: they saw a small village standing down the valley, and decided to go there and take a well-earned break.
-Finally! We will be able to get a drink, or something, since someone drank all my water... -the partner Digimon muttered, looking at his Tamer with an expecting gaze. -I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about -the Tamer lied, as he started humming a song that had heard in the human world. He wondered how things were going over there. Somehow, he was absorbed by the strange new world, where he felt... different. It was something that couldn't be described by words, or at least, none that the Tamer could find at the moment.
After a few minutes, they finally reached the small village, that consisted in a few "houses" that were made out of the hollow crevices that were in the rocky formations that stood in the valley, and what seemed to be a few shops, and a water spring. As they entered the village, they were greeted by the unfriendly gaze of a digimon.
-You... What do you want? What are your business in this village?-he spoke with fury. Tatsuya raised his hands in a conciliative way. -Relax, man. We're just passing through, although we planned on resting here for a day -the teen spoke with a smile forming in his lips as Dorumon growled towards the stranger. It was funny how, hating humans, the fox-like Digimon had grown slightly fond of him.
-Then why is that Dorumon on the verge of attacking? -the Digimon asked.
-Well, don't think you are special. He does that with everyone. Name's Tatsuya, by the way. Also, I repeat, we don't mean any harm. If it's too much of a hassle, we will go now.
The unknown Digimon seemed to think for a while.
-Hmpf... name's Reptiledramon. Stay if you want, but I'll kill you if I see you two doing anything strange -it muttered, just as the doors of two of the houses opened, and two purple furballs that Tatsuya knew perhaps too well jumped out of the rocky buildings.
-Hello! It's nwice to meet ya! -they said. Tatsuya and Dorumon were astonished. They were none other than... -Names are Dowimon and Dodomon! We are sowy if ouw bwothew caused you twouble, he is too concewned about evewyone in this village... wait, awe you ouw onii-chan too? -they asked Dorumon. -Don't think so. I'm a lone wolf
-No problem, we understand. It's also nice to meet you two! -Tatsuya greeted, petting them on the same point he discovered with his partner, making them purr. He then watched the Reptiledramon turn into a Dorumon and leave the scene after scolding the two babies for leaving without permission.

As they entered the village, after being granted permission by that Dorumon who could evolve into a Reptiledramon, many other digimon went out and greeted them. Many were In-Training and Rookie levels, and there was also a few Fresh. Tatsuya watched delighted how they welcomed them, something that didn't happen in the Real World, and went petting and playing with them one by one. Dorumon didn't like being surrounded like that, but he soon changed his mind as the other Digimon looked at him, and spoke.
-Ooh... you seem so stwong... -a digimon named Kyokyomon said, followed by another one.
-I bet he is as stwong as ouw Onii-chan! -the Dorimon said, amazed by Tatsuya's partner's distant and cool attitude. Those compliments caught him completely off-guard, and he chuckled slightly. -Well, I am not that strong, although I am able to digivolve too! -he proudly stated, as they let out an "oooooh". Another Digimon, a Fanbeemon, spoke as well.
-Uh...ex...excuse me... how long are you planning to stay? -it questioned, and Tatsuya then said that they would only be there for the night. -Oh... that's twoo bad... you seem vewy nice! -a Puroromon said. Dorumon raised an eyebrow. Now that he noticed, all of those Digimon were...
-Well, we can always return to see you! It has not been an easy trip, but I think you guys are worth visiting... oh, that's right! Won't you happen to have a place where we can spend the night? We can sleep outdoors, of course, if you can't help us.
Almost immediately, the Dorumon that had degenerated previously came out of his house as well. His face was covered in scars and bruises, now that he was looking at him in a better angle. What could've happened? -How many times do I have to tell you not to trust an stranger so easily? It's dangerous! -it scolded, as the other Digimon looked down to the ground, embarrased. Tatsuya felt kind of bad, it was mostly their fault.
Quickly, they were told that the Dodomon and Dorimon had an extra bed at home, which Tatsuya was more than happy to share with his partner. After having a drink and a few sandwiches and onigiri that Tatsuya had purchased back in Terminus (how surprised he was when he saw human food in the Digital World!), they finally went to finish the day and entered the crevice where they were supposed to sleep.
-Eh, one question. Why do you all call him Onii-chan? He can't be everyone's brother, can he? -Tatsuya asked, curious. -Well... it's a lwong stowy. You see, we all wewe alone, but Onii-chan picked us and bwought us hewe, to the Valley of Dwagons. Ouw village is well hidden hewe, so we didn't have to wowy about them coming... at least, until a few weeks ago...
-What do you mean by "them"? -Tatsuya asked, but then the voice of Dorumon resonated through the village. -Dorumon shinka... Reptiledramon! -could be heard, as a glow illuminated the darkness of the Digital World's night. As Tatsuya was going out, the Dorimon halted his advice. -Wait! It's probably just another stwangew... let him take cawe of this! -he asked, but he was obviously lying.
-"What is going on here...?" -the human thought.

As they looked through the window, Tatsuya saw Reptiledramon facing a pair of two dragon-like Digimon, both of them bearing an extreme resemblance to each other, but at the same time, one was green and the other one was blue. It made sense, they were in the Valley of Dragons, so it was normal to see species like those ones.
-What do you want, Coredramon? -asked Reptiledramon, as Tatsuya took out his device and analyzed both of the newcomers. They were indeed the same species, but different variants.
-Oh, I'm sure you know why we are here... We want you X-Antibody freaks out of our Valley -the blue one answered, as the green dragon smiled icily.
-What...? Why? We are not doing any harm! This area was inhabited until we came! -he said, growling. -Yes, you are right, but we don't want anyone to step into our territory, specially if it's one of you, let alone a whole village! -the green Coredramon replied.
-So either leave, or we will kill you all, got it? Every Digimon's data is worth loading, and I think I'll start with the babies...
-YOU ARE NOT LAYING A FINGER ON THEM! -Reptiledramon shouted, as he plunged into battle against both of the hostile dragon digimon. As Tatsuya watched the scene in horror, he could only question out loud. -Why...? Why are they doing this...? -he mumbled, as Dorumon started shaking, furious. He obviously knew the reason, because he was also one of them...
-It's because we awe X-Antibody Cawwiews... Many Digimon don't like us, as if we wewe diffewent... It's natuwal fow us! We awe not even a subspecies, ouw Digicowe natuwally pwesents it! It's not ouw fault... We all have this, and because of it, we wewe eithew margined ow persecuted by othew Digimon... Onii-chan too, but he was gwood, and took cawe of all of us... Fight, Onii-chan! Dwon't let them beat you! -both Dorimon cheered.
-Racism amongst Digimon...? -Tatsuya then watched the battle again, and was shocked to see that both of the Coredramon were ganging up on him, leaving him little chance of counterattacking. As they hit him, making him stagger, Tatsuya became more and more enraged, like his partner. When the Reptiledramon was knocked to the ground, and stepped upon, a scream filled with rage escaped his throat.
-I can't take this anymore!!! -he shouted, going out of the house, followed by Dorumon. -You two are going down this same instant!!!! -the fox-like Digimon roared, as his body began glowing. Tatsuya pointed his digivice at him unconsciously. Only a word could be read in the screen.
"EVOLUTION"
Dorumon's body was enveloped in a bubble of light. -Dorumon shinka...! It's skin began to be ripped appart from his body, revealing a layer of a digital, grid-like tissue, than began morphing into a much bigger dragon. Limbs and claws extended, as he gained two armblades. As his skin began reforming, he heavily stepped on the ground, and his gaze turned dangerous, fire emanating from his nostrils. As the bubble bursted, Dorumon was no longer there. -...BlackGrowlmon!!!! -he said, jumping towards a surprised Coredramon as he activated his Dark Plasma Blade attack, fueled by rage, and knocking him off Reptiledramon, who stood up.
-What are you doing!? Stay back!
-Not a chance... We are taking them down! I can't stand it... you make me sick, fucking Coredramon!!!! -Tatsuya yelled as BlackGrowlmon roared. Now the scales were even. Which meant bad news for the dragon duo.

The battle quickly escalated into BlackGrowlmon and Reptiledramon beating up the Coredramon. Although the latter was obviously just trying to drive them off instead of defeating them, Tatsuya's partner mercilessly aimed for vital spots, primarily searching for their Gekirin. If he slashed it, as the Digivice pointed, they would take an immense amount of pain.
Overpowered by the relentless assault of the black dragon, the Coredramon were quickly taken aback in their decision of assaulting the small village.
As they limped away, Reptiledramon stood still, but BlackGrowlmon couldn't stand that attitude. -Are you going to let them escape?! -he angrily asked.
-We are not like them... I don't want to kill anybody. That would only create more hatred towards us... -he said, determined. BlackGrowlmon made a "tch" sound, but nonetheless respected his peer's opinion, and let them go away. As they reached enough distance, the blue one laughed.
-You... idiot... we will be back tomorrow... with far more Digimon. You won't be... able to escape. We won't leave a single one of you alive! -he said, flying, followed by his green counterpart who seemed to be far worse at it. -If that's the case, you won't leave that easily! Reptile Burst! -called out, spilling a blue flare from his mouth, followed by Tatsuya's digimon. -Shit! Exhaust Flame...! -BlackGrowlmon fired an explosive fire projectile, but they didn't hit any of the attacks. As they watched them leave, the black dinosaur angrily interrogated his ally.
-Why did you let them escape!!! I could've at least captured them if you...! -he was about to continue, but the Reptiledramon degenerated and fell to the ground, being Dorumon once more. All Digimon in the village quickly came out of their hiding places and tended to him. -Onii-chan!!! Awe you okay? Does it huwt...?
-Hey! You! Dwon't be hawsh on Onii-chan! He did it fow ouw...
-No! He is right... -the Dorumona acknowledged. As the other ones looked at it, shocked, it snorted before talking. -I didn't want to be like them, and because of it, you are greatly endangered... I'm so sorry... -it said, hopeless. As BlackGrowlmon degenerated into Dorumon as well, he approached the other one. -We still can do something about it. We beat them up like they were nothing, right? Then what is it to fear?
-You don't understand... this is the Valley of Dragons. There won't be two, but a large group! Expect ten to five, at the very least... It's hopeless. We can't beat them in their own game... And it's all my fault.
-Don't say that! -Tatsuya scolded him. -You've done a great job so far, protecting all these Digimon by yourself! It's natural not wanting to become like the ones you hate! So don't go saying that it's all your fault, please.
-Why... do you care? You will leave tomorrow morning... you won't be here to...
-Not a chance. I'm not letting things like this. We have to think of something, and fast...
-Awe you suwe you will be able to do it...? I'm... scawed... -a Dodomon whispered, as Dorimon cheered him up with a few words like "it'll be owkay". As they decided to go to sleep until next morning, Tatsuya and Dorumon couldn't sleep. -"Fucking bastards... I'll kill them all...!" -Dorumon thought, enraged. Tatsuya, on the other hand was worried. He had promised that but... would he be able of fulfilling his promise? He felt the fear of the Dodomon...
That was when his D-3 started emmiting a beep noise. What could it be now?

As the beeping noise ringed, Tatsuya opened the notification's menu of his D-3. A map screen popped up, revealing a dot which were them, and a question mark... behind the water spring? That was wierd. They didn't recall seeing anything strange, although it wasn't a small spring. -Hmm... we should we go and check. I don't think I'll be able to sleep anyways -Tatsuya muttered standing up and carefully exiting the house in silence so he wouldn't wake up the other Digimon. Dorumon was still vigilant, but he was recovering from his wounds and wouldn't bother them. As they reached the place, Dorumon noticed a small cavity that he could go through. His partner would've to wait outside, though. -Are you sure about this? -he questioned. -Oh, shut up and let me do my thing. I'll check it myself, it can't be that long. As he sighed, his partner made his way into the small cave. Indeed, he was right: he would soon reach a much bigger cavity with something that looked like a small lever. The water flowed from there to the outside. Without thinking that much, Dorumon grabbed the lever with his mouth, and pulled it towards him. As he did it, a stone near Tatsuya moved in a quiet way, revealing a staircase. Guessing that it would be his Digimon's doing, so he followed suit. He would soon find himself inside the same watery room as his partner. There was a waterfall from which the water came, and they noticed it quite easily due to the roaring noise that still wasn't loud enough to perturb the villagers' sleep. The Tamer checked his device, they were right into the spot. What was left to do? He snapped out of it as his partner called out for him. The lever hadn't only removed a rock, but also placed another one. The waterfall would soon split in two, revealing something hidden behind it, in the middle. It was an item that looked familiar. Perhaps, could it be...? -Another Digimental...? -he questioned out-loud. The teen moved swiftly and tried to grab it... but unlike the other one, this seemed to be incredibly heavy! No matter how hard he tried to move it, the black, armor-like egg didn't move out of place. Dorumon also lent a paw, but it was no good. However, as their limbs accidentaly slipped into a red triangular mark, a voice resonated inside the cavity. - What... is life's... greatest gift? It spoke, as if asking the duo their thoughts on the matter. However, what could be the answer to that question? He didn't know, since he had experimented many things in life. Friendship? Romance? Adventures? What could it be. Dorumon, on the other hand, remained silent. Suddenly, images past through his mind, quickly. He remembered the fear in the other Dodomon's voice. At that time... it had been like watching himself in a mirror. Why was he experiencing it at that time? Could it be that the egg was trying to tell them something? -Perhaps it's not ours. Might explain why it can't be moved...-No. Wait. It addressed us, and you know it. This is ours... but we have to answer the question.Life's greatest gift... a difficult question, indeed, for it offered so many possibilities. He saddened as he thought how the X-Digimon couldn't experience them, because they were trapped in their own fear... -"Worst part is they can't do anything about it. They are forced to live in seclusion, away from others, because they are afraid of being rejected, or attacked. They are afraid... and it won't let them do anything"Wait... His face illuminated as he thought he got the answer. They hadn't the chance to do so because, due to that feeling, they weren't free. It was that same freedom that allowed them to do everything else in life, the one that gave you the chance of living as you wanted. And fear killed that feeling by limitating them. -I got it... Life's greatest gift is freedom! Because it makes life worth living! Being in fear isn't living at all! It's like being inside a cage, surviving, but being dead at the same time! -Tatsuya spoke, realizing it was the same thing he had longed for those years he had been with his parents. He wanted to stop, to live on his own, to do what he wanted, to meet people, not to leave them at the next month... The egg became lighter and lighter. Dorumon's thoughts became clearer. -"I... was afraid. Afraid of being killed if I wasn't strong. Afraid of losing everything again by a whim of the strong ones... Now, I have the chance of releasing them from the same feeling that has been tormenting me for so long. That's it. I will make them free... no, I WILL BE FREE!" -the Digimon thought, as the Digimental started glowing. "Digimental of Freedom: ACQUIRED" Dorumon was absorbed by the light, and started orbiting around the Digimental. As he approached it, he pronounced the words prior to taking a stronger form. -Dorumon! Armor Shinka...! -afterwards, he merged with the Digimental, and his body was enveloped by a black sphere with three holes and a red, triangular crest. Legs popped out of the inferior holes, one after another, as a muscular body came from inside the top hole, whose top part generated another piece of armor from which two arm like cannons grew. A missile launcher formed on it's back as the new Digimon's face came out of the armor. As long-ear like protuberances and a small horn grew, a yellow eye glowed as the bubble of light bursted. -The cry of Freedom-BlackRapidmon! -the new Digimon announced, as his armored feet touched the ground. |

New information of BlackRapidmon popped out of the Digivice. "BlackRapidmon. Nightmare Soldiers, Metal Empire. Cyborg type Digimon. A species of Rapidmon designed to stealth in the darkness. Passive effects include stealth at night or in a dark, indoor area, such as a cave, and a great speed augment when stealthed. Attacks suited for taking down opponents from the shadows, without being discovered. Further notes on Ultimate Armor: Level between Champion and Ultimate. A good scenario is recommended for this form, whose power greatly increases when sneak attacking."
-Are you thinking the same as I am thinking? -Tatsuya was excited. With the new form, they might be able to take down the threat without being at an extreme disadvantage. The BlackRapidmon nodded, and picked Tatsuya up. Then, using his special skill, he camouflaged into darkness, leaving the cave at great speed without anyone being able to tell. Silent, fast. Just as it had been described.
Flying through the night sky, they spotted a place where at least six Dragon Digimon stood. They were talking about something of the village, and started laughing, pointing at the Coredramons. Soon after that, their meeting ended, and each one took a different route. BlackRapidmon scanned his first target's data: Blue Coredramon, which he would use as a decoy. As it took flight and he was far enough from the place, the shadowy cyborg sneaked up from behind, and at a prudential position, he fired two nukes, aiming for the head.
-Rapid Fire -he muttered, as the missiles movement began, completely muffled. Before they landed, BlackRapidmon vanished once again and moved at blinding speed to another spot, far from there. As the explosion was heard, the already injured Coredramon fell to the ground, completely knocked out. The green Coredramon and another Digimon, who seemed the only Rookie, came to its aid, but it was just a trap. From above, BlackRapidmon's backcannon fired a barrage of twelve projectiles that rained down its foes, exploding on contact and dealing great damage. "Missile Launcher" was the name of the attack, though it wasn't pronounced.
As two more fell, the count reduced to three. He saw an enraged Digimon, which seemingly commanded one of the other two to search for clues. That was a mistake they wouldn't have time to regret. As BlackRapidmon moved, completely unseen, he avoided the fire created by his weaponry, which would otherwise reveal him. From the shadows, he approached the lone explorer.
Loading a missile into its cannons, he rammed the weapons onto the foe Greymon's spine, using the two at the same time to double the attack's power.
-Explosive Uppercut...!
As the Champion level, hit on a crucial spot without even expecting, it fell to the ground, steam coming from both of the Rapidmon's cannons. The noise made the two that were still standing shiver. Another one had fallen victim to the unknown attacker. They didn't have time to think about it, because from behind, BlackRapidmon formed the three vertex of a triangle with his limbs, which charged with dark energy. A triangle ray was fired, wounding the Ginryumon that stood next to the apparent leader of the group. -And that was five. Night Triangle has done an amazing job with that one, hasn't it -the Cyborg Digimon finally revealed himself, as he approached a terryfied ExVeemon.
-What... do you...
-Can you feel it? Fear? It closes its jaws on your life, sucking it away. Slowly, painfully... remember this, and I'll let you go. If you ever send anyone else to threaten the X-Antibody Digimon that live in this valley... I will hunt you. Until that time... I might come and pay you a visit now and then -the Armor Ultimate said, bluffing a bit. His power wasn't that great when faced directly, without having the chance to sneak upon his foe, but it helped create the atmosphere that allowed him to strike his foe's mind.
-Okay! Just... leave this place...
As the Digimon left, he camouflaged again with the starry sky, increasing his speed once more. Shortly after, he had arrived to the village. As they landed, there was an expecting Dorumon waiting for them. -I heard the explosions. What in the world...
-We took care of all of them. If they ever try to come and attack you... We will come back for them. But that time, BlackRapidmon will aim directly for the kill.
As the newly evolved Digimon degenerated back into Dorumon, they went to sleep. It had been the first time that Tatsuya had seen his partner so fixed on his target. What other effects could evolution have on his fox-like partner? He didn't know, but he was sure of something: with this new form, they now were a step ahead on their travels.
