Catastrophe! Nightmare at Scramble Crossing

Scramble Crossing was a neat place, but definitely not a place where a girl should wander up on a late evening. The neon lights, the people pushing into each other while trying to get to places. The decidedly strange fashion sense and makeup were tad... unsettling for the girl. She had to get back to her hotel, and thought that this was a "shortcut"; probably the most foolish thing she had done since the time she thought that dying her hair would be fun. Solace frowned as she tried to make her way through the multitude, but she just failed miserably at it; being young, small and lightweight was an advantage in a variety of situations... just not right now. In the end, she ended up being pushed to the pedestrians until she fell butt-first through the door of a nearby building. She sighed with relief at the moment of respite, but as soon as she stared at the wares being sold in the place, her cheeks reddened as a mortified expression took over her face. Maybe she was young, but she knew what these leather clothes and handcuffs and latex bananas were for. And she knew that this place was... wrong. After a shrill scream, Solace stood up quickly and ran as if the reaper were after her, not caring about any pedestrian in front of her as she exited that creepy place. She'd probably end up ramming somebody in her desperate attempt to escape, but that wasn't really in her mind right now.

That... Was the sound of a girl screaming. And a young one at that. What had happened, had a Digimon emerged!? Kai started running towards the source of the noise... Only to be bumped into by a young girl running in the opposite direction as him. Right into where his broken arm was held in a cast, over his broken ribs. Painful didn't even begin to describe it. It hurt so much he couldn't even let out a scream with enough volume to describe the pain he felt. Especially given that he'd been running. Running with a broken arm and several ribs was only even slightly a good idea because someone could be in danger
It was only after the momentary lapse in cognitive abilities caused by the sheer pain had passed, that he could think clearly (Duh). He had heard a young girl scream. He had then run into a young girl running away from the source of a scream. Now, he could be wrong, but somehow, coincidences were pretty rare. "Err, ack. Are you okay?" Even if she hadn't been the one screaming, she had just been run into by a boy much larger than her. It was only polite to ask.
He just hoped the two Digimon hiding in his bag didn't do anything stupid. Especially Shiro, the white one who was prone to talking in front of strangers.

Solace felt her body collide with another, then a male teenager's voice screaming just in tandem with her. Once again, she felt flat on her butt; this totally didn't feel nice, and as far as the girl was concerned, she wished for it to stop. Some tears began to trail down her cheeks, she didn't even bothering to stand up at first; why this kind of stuff had to happen to her? Had she offended any kind of Japanese deity or something of the sort?
Her thoughts were promptly interrupted by a man's voice; probably the same she had bumped into, even if she couldn't check on that. The answer to his question was fairly obvious, but somebody caring about her in this sea of faceless pedestrians made her feel so much better; she wiped the nascent tears away from her face, then stared at the person who was asking.
A grown-up, even if he wasn't an adult. He seemed to be... injured? Well, at least that's what she guessed when her eyes danced through the cast on one of his arms; she resisted the urge to wince at the sight.
"S-sorry." The brunette muttered in an almost muffled tone. "I j-just was... and th-then I..."
Meaningless blabber, but those were the only words that her mouth managed to spout; she still had some calming down to do.

"It's fine. I'm fine." Kai lied. It hurt! Oh, how it hurt! It turned out that head on collisions and broken bones was not a good combination! Neither was running and broken bones! But he was more concerned about the scream from earlier. He didn't see any obvious causes, though... No Digimon breaking through in the middle of Scramble Crossing. Oh, right, the girl. He reached down his good hand to help her stand up.
Don't worry about it! Err, did you happen to hear a scream coming from this direction?" She had been coming from that way. Maybe she knew something? Heck, maybe she'd been the one to scream? Anyways, it seemed a good place to start. Also... "And... Where are your parents?" He couldn't be more than a few years older than her... But he was much larger than her. And Scramble Crossing wasn't really a place for little girls. Shiro might not be happy in Kai's bag... But some things were more important than that.

Solace began to gather her bearings little by little; her frantic motions and gestures began to recede a bit. She took a deep breath, releasing it on a slow sigh, and after calming herself a bit, she took the older guy's hand with a tentative smile on her face.
The first thing she did after getting up was to dust herself off.
"Thank you." She took the time to give him a good look; didn't look to be that much, but the height difference was probably enough to make it look otherwise. Regarding his question, however... let's just say that her cheeks flushed on deep red. "That... would be me."
She felt so embarrassed that the feeling was almost tangible; it was only a natural reaction after what had happened, after all! Nobody in their right mind would've entered a place like that, right? Sometimes, she just wondered why those even existed. However, she was happy that he didn't pry further yet, because explaining what had happened would be a bit... awkward.
And with a bit, she meant a lot.
The brunette blinked at his second question, however. Her parents where pretty much at the other side of the world, but that wasn't something she would tell to a stranger at any time soon. Given her looks, it was pretty obvious that she looked foreigner, but that wasn't exactly uncommon in this city.
"They... aren't here at the moment." Not would be at any moment in the foreseeable future. Solace sounded insecure while saying that, but lying had never been one of her strong points. "But I can get by myself."
Was this guy a creeper that hid behind a smile? Her mom had warned her about the sheer amount of perverts that inhabited this country, and that was why she was currently carrying a rather big can of pepper spray on her purse. She'd prefer to not to use it, but if that was inevitable... at least she was glad to have the option with her.

Oh, she had screamed? Well, he didn't have to look anyfruther- ow- which was good. "Are you okay? What happened?" Kai was genuinely concerned. Usually, people didn't scream for no reason. For instnce- He had screamed when something had impacted with his broken arm and ribs. Besides, if it had been caused by a Digimon- He needed to know where it was. He... Was too weak to do anything about it, but he could at least distract it until D.A.T.S. arrived. No one else needed to be injured as he had.
"You... Really shouldn't be out on your own, you know. Heck, just look at me. And I'm a lot more capable of defending myslef than you are..." He trailed off. He needed to be careful when talking about his injuries- Say too much, and he'd reveal the existence of Digimon. But... It was a good visual aid for saying, "Life will kill you if you aren't careful." Much in the same way that he couldn't justify letting people without adequate power wander the Digital World alone, he couldn't exactly say he was comfortable with a little girl wandering the streets of Tokyo alone. It was dangerous, perverts, molesters, kidnappers... And Digimon, too.
On the other hand, if he was too concerned, he might be mistaken for a one of them... The first three, at least. That thought crossed his mind every time he talked to someone that age. It made it... Rather awkward to balance being concerned, without being creepy.

Once again, the girl's cheeks were tinged by a faint, red hue. A delicate finger pointed at a nearby building; it was pretty flamboyant, the most striking feature it had being a pretty big green neon sight that said in funky letters "TeMpTaTiOn".
"I was randomly pulled into that place because the people in here are rude enough to push around a girl just because they're in a hurry!" Even if she felt pretty flustered about the whole situation, that didn't mean she wasn't really angry too. She had heard a lot about Japanese folk being polite and all that stuff, but right now... that just sounded like a lot of bullcrap.
Regarding his second statement... Solace could say that she wasn't a fan of it. Was there any need to be judgmental of her this early?
"Judging a book for its cover, aren't we?" Even if she was a small girl, she knew how to take care of herself! That's why her parents had permitted her to travel alone to a country that was pretty much at the other side of the world. She didn't know how capable the person in front of her was, but if looks amounted anything, he looked as if he had been through stuff. "As long as I don't end inside a creepy place, I'm more than able to look after myself, thank you. You have no right to say that you're more able than me on anything, especially since you don't even know my name!"
Any statement required something to prove it. And right now, this guy was just throwing conclusions without any kind of evidence backing them besides her physical appearance.
"But I'll let you make up for that mistake." She then signaled to a much better building; an ice-cream shop. "Ice-cream is the solution to the world's problems! And even you could use some, I'm sure of it!"
Now she was staring at him with big, puppy eyes. It was pretty obvious that she was trying to coax some free candy out of him, but it wasn't as if he was forced to do so. He only had to turn down an adorable girl making a cute expression; real easy, right?

It was immediately apparent what kind of shop it was that the young girl was pointing to. The kind that frankly, should have a method to keep kids that age out. In any case... He could see why she had screamed... Though, it was a shame. It meant she knew what the stuff the sold there was for. Whatever happened to the innocence of youth!?
Uggh. Kai couldn't deal with people who wouldn't accept their own shortcomings. And now he had the injuries to back up his statements! Even if the worst of them would be impossible to see with his shirt on, shouldn't it be obvious he knew what he was talking about!? But... He couldn't exactly tell the whole story. Not without explaining the existence of Digimon. And that was... Just as bad of an idea as letting a young girl wander alone.
But maybe he was worrying too much. Maybe she was right. Maybe he was judging a book by its cover. Maybe she was stronger than him. It wouldn't surprise him. Since when had he ever met someone weaker than him? Even before his injuries? He needed to stop having such a big head. He knew better than anyone his own weakness. He shouldn't be projecting it onto others.
"Alright, alright. I'll get you ice cream." Kai may have sounded slightly defeated. It may have been because his wallet felt like it was trying to murder him through his pocket- Though, it may just have been the wounds. Probably the wallet. Ice cream... Was a luxury he couldn't exactly afford. But... How could he say no to that face? Besides... She could probably use an ice cream after what she had just been through.
He just hoped Shiro hadn't gotten too excited at the words, 'Ice Cream.'

Victory! The ice-cream was within her reach now. She only had to wait a bit more and... she'd have something to have her forget this rather embarrassing anecdote
"Thank you!" Even if the boy had judged her only based off her looks, he didn't seem to be that bad. Being kind enough to buy some ice-cream to an otherwise complete stranger was really nice. Or creepy, but Solace's faith in humanity wasn't so low.
She waited on her place patiently, thinking that eating the delicious candy in a busy street. If she had been pushed into a random building by the pedestrian mass, the chances of her ice-cream ending in either the ground or her clothes was higher than it ending on her stomach.
And that wouldn't do, of course! Once her mysterious benefactor came back with the candy, she pointed at a less transited place just as she began to walk there.
"You didn't have to, you know?" The brunette asked once on her way; trying to charm people into doing what she wanted wasn't okay, but he had done that entirely on his will... "But that was really nice on your part! Thank you!"
Not to say that the stuff was pretty good. Japanese ice-cream was pretty great, even if she preferred the taste the stuff of her homeland had.
"Name's Solace, by the way. Pleased to meet you!"
Pleasantries had been delayed for too long, and the girl thought she could at least give this person that much.

Kai returned with a single ice cream cone, and a considerably lighter wallet. He could feel Shiro squirming in his bag- But, this food was not meant for the Digimon, nor could he leave the bag in such a crowded place.Shiro was just going to have to deal with it. At least until Kai got somewhere private. That was to say, he managed to escape from this girl whose pace he had gotten dragged into.
Why was it that stuff like this happened every time he went out these days? Well, at least there were no Digimon this time... Yet.
"Here you go." Kai said, offering the dairy dessert to the young girl. What, she wanted him to stay with her? Well... Shiro was getting rowdy... But he still wasn't certain it was safe for a young girl like that to be alone. He wasn't much in the way of protection... But Shiro was. Even if... Letting Digimon evolve in front of unrelated humans was generally just a bad idea.
Kai. Kai Haimura." He responded. If he'd known he hadn't had to- No, he probably would have gone anyways. SHe needed something to take her mind off... Adult things. And Kai was a pushover, as his partners would happily tell you.

Of course, Solace's first reaction at the teenager going back and actually giving her the ice-cream was to smile brightly at him. Everyone willing to buy her ice-cream was a good person, and this guy wasn't an exception. He had complied a bit too easily at first, but that was something she'd think about later.
So... Kai was his name, huh? There was something she caught on his way back, though.
"Why you only bought one? You don't like ice-cream? Are you unable to eat things with gluten? That sucks, man. I wouldn't be able to live without ice-cream! It's one of the few pleasures of life."
Well, life's pleasures weren't few, but ice-cream was definitely among them. Stuff was just too good! Still, what he had done had been really nice on his part, so the brunette kinda felt the need to pay him back somehow.
Like... with idle chat how.
"So... what were you doing here before our paths converged?" That was a funny way of saying 'crashing directly into you'. "Were you shopping? Or just strolling around here? Strolling doesn't sound like the smartest idea, given how crowded this place is, but... I guess that some people like those places. I don't."
Was she talking too much? Or too little? She had no idea, but Kai looked like a person of few words. Time to find out.

"Huh? Oh, no. No, not at all. I'm just... Saving my money, for various things, is all. Ice cream is nice, but... I can live without it." Oh, if he put it like that... Wouldn't she feel bad for making him spend money? "You, however, could use some ice cream right about now. Besides, what hand would I have held the second one in?" Kai wiggled the fingers on his broken arm a bit. The hand was... Not exactly in optimal ice-cream carrying position.
What had he been doing? Well... He had been on his way to the Digital World with Kuro and Shiro... But, he couldn't exactly say that, could he? On the other hand... He got caught in his web of lies often enough that he wasn't quite comfortable doing that. So he settled for half and half. "Oh... I was just heading to the train station. Don't worry, it wasn't anything I can't do later... Or tomorrow for that matter." After all, clearly she was concerned that she was keeping him from something.
On the other hand... She didn't like him judging by appearances. Maybe she didn't care if she spent his money or kept him away from whatever it was he was supposed to be going to? Erk. Other people were just so hard to read. "Err... What about you? What are you doing in the busiest intersection in Tokyo?" Especially without someone tall enough to actually be seen in this crowd. Seriously. He didn't feel like it had been the brightest of ideas.

So he was saving money, huh? Why she had bought her the ice cream, then? That just didn't make sense. Well, a lot about Kai didn't make sense, but that was off the point. Not that that would deter Solace from doing what she'd do next, though.
"Wait a minute. I'll be right back!" She handed her ice cream to the brunette, as if gesturing for him to hold it as she went towards the very same shop. She bought some the very same item that he had and then handed it to him as she took hers once again.
"It wouldn't be fair otherwise!" The girl said, cheerily. Not to say that she'd feel guilty otherwise. "If you wanted ice cream, you should've told me that sooner! I could've helped you."
Now that she was okay with her conscience, everything was fine once again.
"So... the train station." That remark wasn't lost for her. If he was headed to somewhere else, why he could wait until tomorrow? That that so unimportant? Strange, but not like that mattered right now. If he wanted to postpone whatever he was going to do just for her, then so be it. She was surely worth it. Regarding her, however...
"Oh, I was trying to get back to my hotel." She quickly brought out a map of Tokyo that had a square mark on it. "The shortest path was through here, but... I didn't know it was so crowded. It'd have gone through another route if I had known. Guess maps aren't that helpful on that regard!"

Eh? WHy was she running off? At least finish your ice cream first! He could just see her getting jostled in the crowd and dropping it, or running into someone again and them being annoyed about her getting their shirt dirty or.... His thoughts rambled. But she returned shortly and safely... With two ice creams? "You... Shouldn't have. But thank you." He... Wasn't really that desperate for ice cream. SHiro was, but he was not coming out of that bag in this crowded place, no matter what. No. Matter. What.
"Ah, yeah." He licked his ice cream a bit. "Busiest intersection in Tokyo. But you wouldn't know that from the map. Well, I guess you can understand why it's so busy. As you said, it's the shortest route. Well, it's the shortest route to a lot of places. And the train station is right over there, which only increases the traffic. I can see how it might catch a newcomer off guard." Oh, there he was assuming again. But if she wasn't a newcomer, how could she not know about the Scramble Crossing?
He would have happily helped her plot a safer and less crowded route... But she hadn't pointed out which of the many hotels she was staying in... And asking her which one it was seemed just slightly too much like a lolicon pervert for his tastes.

Solace smiled at the boy's words. Maybe she shouldn't have done it, but either him, right? Being nice was all about that, after all.
"You don't have to thank me; it wasn't a problem!" While she wasn't exactly rich, right now, the girl had some money to spare, and it wasn't as if this wasn't the same than her buying the ice cream on her own anyway. "Maybe that will help you feel a little better!"
Maybe he wasn't that injured on his own, but his arm being a cast was pretty good at conveying him being hurt by a fair bit. What could've caused that? She wondered a bit about it...
And concluded on that not mattering much, at least for the moment. Instead, she decided to go with something easier to ask. And more entertaining, probably.
"So... is there anything fun to do in this place? Given the amount of people in here, at least there must be something, right?"
She wouldn't mind at all if somebody showed her the sights, just as long as she was safe from those creepy places and got somewhere interesting to go. Or far, far away. Both worked, for all she cared.
