Life was hectic in Japan these days. Rumors of monster sightings have stirred up trouble, causing people to live in fear. It was indeed a strange time in Japan. Well, depending on what you consider strange. But today wasn't about battling and controversy, no. Today, Dante and Wormmon are out looking to forget their troubles for a few hours. Hit up the arcades, find a new place to eat. Dante is walking down the street with Wormmon hiding in his jacket. "Where are we going first?" "I figure we'd go to the arcade with that new game. People have been praising it online, and keep going back. Must be worth checking out." Wormmon reaches inside a pocket in Dante's jacket and pulls out a piece of candy. "Hey, don't eat all my candy." "Relax, we can always get more." "That's not the point, little buddy."
Dante reaches the arcade with the new game. There's a long line just to get inside. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Come on, let's grab some overpriced coffee and come back when the line's shorter." Even more people show up and get in line. Dante walks over to a coffee stand and orders some iced coffee. He sits down on a nearby bench and waits for his drinks, watching the line at the arcade. Even if they had to wait, at least it was a nice sunny day to be outside. Dante notices a cute girl from his college class waiting in line. "Wow, I never thought I'd see her going to the arcade. Just what is so great about this game?" "I bet it's not as awesome as 'Lock Everyone in a Room and Set them on Fire 3'." "Oh ya, that's a fun one." Dante's digivice starts going off. It shows multiple different energy patterns. There must be several Digimon nearby. Maybe some of the people in line are Tamers also.

Dust had no idea why he was here and why he came here. He was back to being dragged around by his mercenary, the hyper overly affectionate Lunamon had heard something about a game and wanted to go check it out, thing is they couldn't get in due to a lot of people around, people plus Digimon was a bad idea. But despite telling her this here he was now sitting under a bench with the Lunamon waiting for nightfall so she could check out this game, which he really wanted to know why she was trying to hard to play it, she didn't even know what it was. "Maybe that girl is a gamer, here's hoping." Dust said to himself hoping this wouldn't be a complete waste of his time, though he did feel something around him, a Digimon or two near the duo.
This became clearer when he saw someone sit down on the bench, Dust still had to remain hidden but he tried to move over a bit and hopefully find somewhere else, luckily everyone was so amazed with the line and game no one was around so a clean break for the duo, but when Dust saw who it was he felt even more in the clear. Mostly cause the Mercenary Luna had jumped up and holding on top the bench waved. "Hi." She said waving at Dante, if there wasn't people around and this wasn't someone he kinda knew, Dust would of had a heart attack.

Dante gets impatient with the line at the arcade, and his coffee is taking forever. He takes out his phone and little ear buds and starts listening to music. Wormmon hears a voice and sees Lunamon. Wormmon tugs on Dante's jacket. "Dante, there's a Digimon." Dante doesn't hear. Wormmon rips the earbuds out of Dante's ears! "OWW! Oh my god that always hurts so bad! What?!" "There's a Digimon under the bench." Wormmon crawls out from inside Dante's jacket and looks underneath the bench. Dante stands up and sees Lunamon and Dust. "Hey, I remember you! Wait, it might be a different Digimon." "Why do you act so stupid outside of battles, ya big head! That's our one time acquaintance Dust."
Dante is happy to see Dust again. He wasn't expecting to see two Digimon roaming the streets in the middle of the day. "It's good to see you again. What are you two doing here?" "Probably gonna check out the game too. Oh, it must be so fun, Dante! Even us Digimon can't resist." Yes, it appeared this game's reputation has spread very quickly. Still, Dante was usually happy playing older video games. No sense in getting super excited every time a new game came out. But this game was a huge step forward, featuring new features never before seen in a game. How long until they would get their chance to play?

Dust held one hand out. "Don't worry I'm the same one." Dust said holding up his pendent. "Just look at this and it's obvious who I am." Dust said incase they met again. Not many Impmon wore a broken pendant with Du on it. "Nice to meet you also, we came here because somehow Luna heard about this and wanted to check it out." He answered, he felt it was a bit obvious they were going to wait until there were less people around. "Oh yeah this is Luna She's." Dust didn't get to finish before she finished the sentence for him, not the way he was going to end it though.
"Luna, Dust'S mercenary, healer and girlfriend." Dust felt like he was just pierced with a arrow. He tried to form a coherent sentence but embarrassment lead to him fumbling over his words, why did she repeat what Maia said?

Dante is surprised by Lunamon's response. He wasn't sure why the Digimon were traveling together in the Human World. One lone rebel, that's a cool cliché. But two Digimon with no Tamers around? That was a first for Dante. Not knowing their true intentions, Dante still decides to trust them. "We've all gotta get in that arcade and play the new game, but with all four of us, we can't just walk in." Wormmon thinks about all the classic shenanigans from movies and TV that might work. "Well, Dante, there's the 2 or more hiding under a trenchcoat shtick. We could get a pretty woman to distract everyone." Dante waits for more ideas. "That all you got?" "No, I just really like that last idea." Dante briefly considers manipulating the girl from his class in some kind of distraction scenario, but thinks better of it and goes with something else. "Fire Alarm. One of us needs to sneak inside and set off the alarm. Then, we sneak in during the commotion and start playing."
Wormmon looks confused. "You really think that will work?" "Trust me. People play these games in separate pods. Some people play for hours, or even days straight. It wouldn't make much sense standing out in the open." Dante knew Dust could easily throw a fireball at the smoke detector, but would he be able to sneak in? He must be a pro at slipping by without being noticed by now. "What do you say, guys? Dust, can you handle it?" Wormmon notices the coffee is ready. "Ahh Dante! Go get the coffee! We can set off the alarm." "Alright, I'll get the coffee." Dante quickly walks over and grabs the two cups of coffee, trying to not draw too much attention. "Woo! This is going to be fun! Na na na na ninja!"

Dust was quite sure he was the only one who didn't care enough to play the game. Though luckily Dante didn't say anything about Luna'S outburst nor why he was here. "I can use a fire attack, I have two should be easy." Dust said before looking at Luna. "Stay." He firmly said, she wasn't sneaky and had a tendency to say hi to a lot of people which was a bad idea. "I cannot believe I'm doing this for someone I hired." Dust mumbled out before starting. He quietly looked from a distance seeing a open window near some of the larger games on the arcade. "Alright get up there and find the alarm. Easy." Dust muttered out before noticing the Wormmon. "I can jump up there, one moment." Dust said quietly and deftly moving upward towards the window and heading through it.
Dust landed on a machine climbing up standing on top of it. Dust quietly moved using other machines as stepping stones before jumping to his target. Standing a bit away from the alarm he quickly threw something hitting near it. Dust then made his way back out jumping down and heading over to the group again. Dust then snapped his fingers making what he threw blow up in a tiny pillar setting off the alarm. "Easy." Dust said before the mercenary hugged him once again.

Dust and Wormmon head over to the side of the arcade. After a successful break in, the alarm had been triggered. The siren was blaring, and sprinklers placed next to the doors away from the machines went off. Dante notices the commotion as people come pouring out. Dante, Dust, Lunamon, and Wormmon slip by during the chaos. They see an open pod and go inside. They shut the door, and can no longer hear the alarm. "Wow. These things are soundproof. Talk about the ultimate gaming experience. Titicaca! Yep it's soundproof." The group notices the virtual reality helmets and gloves. Dante's inner child is freaking out. This game was going to rock. "So, I guess we just put these on."
Dante grabs the helmet and puts it on. He sees the logo of a video game company, with a rabbit with big ears driving a tiny racecar. Before players can play, they must create an account and fill out all the unnecessary information. "Uh, I don't know what you guys are going to put down." Dante puts on the gloves and types on the virtual keyboard. "Why are these gloves so small?" Wormmon has a hard time learning to use the gloves. Once everybody is signed in, they reach the character creation menu. Dante scrolls through the different classes and game mechanics. "Oh my god! The selection is incredible! And such detail. They've actually managed to balance melee and ranged combat. Oh, now it all makes sense. I can see why people are no-lifing this game."
Wormmon explores the character customization. They choose a female character model, and scale the breast slider all the way up. "Woo! Bigger melons means more power! I'm gonna kick your butt Dante!" The group creates their characters. Some take longer than others. Dante in particular was very fickle, unable to make up his mind until he was certain with his choice. Wormmon turns the helmet back to regular vision to drink some coffee. "We should have brought food!" "No worries, there's a snack bar in the pod." "Ooh, heaven is a place on Earth!" Wormmon starts munching down on candy and cookies. "Pace yourself, we still gotta pay for it later."

Dust is dragged along through the arcade towards the place by Luna. He is the. shoved in and sitting in a pod. "Alright Luna just play." Dust said but the Lunamon slammed a helmet on his head also. "...fine" Dust mutters out before the duo fill everything out. Dust had no idea what to put so he just put his name and bsed the rest. somehow it worked for the both of them and they got to the creation. Dust somehow managed to pick a dual gunner. He made it like he thought he'd look as a Human, black hair red eyes by accident. Quite nice looking with a slim design a large overcoat with jeans and boots, one glove and a piercing on his ear that he couldn't figure out how to get rid of for the life of him.
Luna went with a female healer with, as Wormmon would say small melons with just a white coat and pink pants with white hair and loafers. Once done they heard about the food but decided to try and at least work this out neither of them familiar with games. Though Dust had quite a easy time navigating the menus.

Once the group was done making their characters, the game starts a really long loading screen. "Oh, come on!" Dante went with the Duelist class. He gave his character green hair and floppy bunny ears, wearing short grey robes and dark grey pants. Wormmon made a female tank class with a laser cannon, long purple hair, wearing skimpy dark red bikini armor. "Just so we're clear, I'm the tank!" "No, I am. Trust me, we need a strong tank, and your play style doesn't suit that role." "Come on, you picked a Duelist! My tank is way stronger." "I'm going to spec as a tank. I can avoid more attacks." "Fine, we will see who tanks better, you cross-classing knowitall."
The game finally finishes loading, and the group is treated to a short video clip. The camera pans over the surrounding landscape, featuring lots of grassy hills and pretty flowers. A gruff voice is heard in the game. "Chaos. Anarchy. Survival. You either fight hard and win, or lose and amount to nothing! Join us. Take the next step into the future of reality!" A bright light flashes on the screen, and the players appear in the virtual world. "It's like I can feel these clothes. The helmets must be tapping in to the player's mind." Dante takes out one of his dueling swords and spins it around. "This is unreal..."
Wormmon pulls out their laser cannon and fires it at a small hill, creating a huge explosion. "Whoah! Talk about overpowered." "Well, I guess we gotta start off fighting weaklings in this valley." Dante notices an NPC character standing next to a dirt road. "Great. Well, we gotta start somewhere." Dante walks over to the character. He just stares back at Dante, not doing or saying anything. "Well, this is different." "Chop his head off!" "Um, excuse me, yes. We are, uh, space, heroes, in this valley, and uh, what can we do for you? Like, maybe an errand, or kill a bunch of nearby mobs?" No response. "What is with this game?"

Dust went along with everything but once he got in the game something felt off about everything. "I'm just being paranoid." He mumbled to himself taking out one of his guns, he stared at it for a while and while nothing with the game messed with him this image of him holding a gun brought up a memory of a hand unlike his own holding a shotgun. Only the gun was covered in red. This lasted a moment and Dust dropped the items and backed up. "What, what was." He asked himself shaking his head, whatever that was had to be the game or something. Yeah he'd lie to himself about that. Luna poked him in the shoulder worried. "Hey are you ok?" She asked her tone worried. "Yeah I'm fine Luna. Come on lets catch up." Dust said picking up the gun. Despite thinking that was a delusion he couldn't help but wonder what that red stuff was.
"What's going on" Dust asked the two of them catching up with Dante and Wormmon. They were talking to someone else but was it a actual person. Dust had no idea. Luna had been messing around and swinging her new arms wildly around. apparently she picked a cleric that can dual as a fist character good to know as she decked Dust in the face by accident. "Sorry Dust." She said but Dust only shrugged. "Didn't hurt it's fine." He said waving the girl off.

Dante turns to ask Dust and Lunamon for help, but they are still standing near where they spawned in. Dust had some kind of strange vision. Some superstitious people might even believe it's a lost memory, or a vision, but in all likelihood it might be nothing to worry about. Dust had been the most resistant to the game so far. Maybe the Imp Digimon was picking up on something the others failed to notice. Dante stood there, wondering why the man would not speak. Getting impatient, Dante pulls out his sword and slices right into the NPC. Upon contact, a plethora of blood came flying out, and the body fell to the ground. "Better turn the blood down." A different NPC spawns in, and starts talking. "Congratulations! It took you 3 minutes and 42 seconds to lash out and commit murder."
Dante is startled by what they said. This appears to be some kind of test to gage which player is the first to cave. The NPC starts morphing in appearance, and changes into a large purple space monster. "What kind of a way to start the game is this?!" "I appreciate their originality." Dante backs up and takes up a fighting stance. Wormmon gets their laser cannon ready. The large monster sends out a shockwave that knocks the players down. "Argh, that hurt!" The group now realizes that if they take damage in the game, they actually feel some degree of pain in real life. Dante charges and slices his sword into the belly of the monster, dealing moderate damage. A healthbar appears in the corner of the screen of the goggles. "That thing has a lot of health. Gonna start this game off with a bang!" Wormmon fires the laser cannon at the monster, dealing decent damage. It looks like they will have to keep chipping away at their health.

Dust watched as Dante butchered the NPC and heard what that thing said. "So was that a good thing or a bad thing." Dust asked himself apparently the only one who saw the shockwaves coming and leaped over the ground. Years of combat experience and muscle memory never left him even when his body wasn't his own. "Alright then guess I have to fight, Luna let's go." The girl nodded and Dust quickly grabbed both of his guns and started emptying rounds into he thing from afar. Luna had rushed in with a honest to god smile on her face aiming a powerful uppercut to try and send this thing into he air.
If she was successful Dust would proceed to fire into it while airborne if not Dust would quickly rush in and guard the healer, despite being good with fists losing the only means of healing he knew about wasn't something he wanted to do. Plus she was kinda his girlfriend apparently. Would be a Dick move to just watch her get hit.

The four players engaged the alien monster. Lunamon's powerful uppercut move send the monster flying into the air. Dust then unleashed a wave of laser bullets into the monster, dealing decent damage to the airborne alien. While still in the air, the alien start spinning forward rapidly and descends down like a giant purple bowling ball. Luckily, the players avoided the incoming attack. It keeps rolling, then turns around and comes back, rolling right over Wormmon's sexy character model. The attack did heavy damage, but luckily Wormmon has a lot of health. "Ow! Squished like a pickle in a cheeseburger." Dante would rather be learning more about the game's story, not battling for his character's life. Dante just wanted to keep playing this game, explore the world, get better gear. This battle was only slowing the group down. They better get some serious xp and loot.
Dante charges towards the ball and jumps up into the air, landing on top of the monster while it is still spinning. Dante struggles to run and balance himself, but manages to avoid falling off for now. He swings his sword at the monster, but it deals little damage because of its round form. The monster spins rapidly, and Dante is sent flying off, hitting the ground for moderate damage. "We need a plan, you guys. This thing is tough!" "Ever hear of a difficulty curve? I don't know what all my attacks are." Dante goes through one of the menu screens and moves some of his moves to a hotbar for easier use. He activates something called Blink Strike. Dante teleports forward a few feet. "Wait, I can teleport?" The move has a cooldown, but this new ability has its advantages. A quick strike, or instant dodge if done right. The monster still had quite a bit of health. If the players were going to survive, they would have to find a way to deal significant damage to bring them down.

Dust was surprised at what Dante did, they had skills huh. "Damn not like there's a skill list or something." On cue once he said that one appeared right in front of him. He looked it over for a moment before noticing some odd ones not retaining to a gun type. Maybe it was because Dust himself was digital so something from his past came up, moves that felt like he had named them himself. Dust wasn't given much time to pick one because that thing was now after him making some attempt to roll him down. As if in a trance he put his guns back and watched the thing come closer. "Legion of one." He muttered softly before setting up a counter which the enemy easily ran into. The next few moments were brutal as Dust started pounding the tar out of the thibg lifting it slowly in the air. Dust landed and as it fell he dashed forward vanishing from sight, when he appeared several black slashes surrounded the monster cutting it all over before Dust kicked it in the air again.
Due to the fact that Dust had literally started the game he didn't kill it in one blow like a badass but did manage to deal quite a lot of damage to the thing. "Heh." Dust let out a small laugh before pulling his guns out again and firing into it.

The players were becoming more familiar with the game. Dust discovers a powerful attack, and unleashes it on the monster. Dante and Wormmon watch on as Dust goes berserk on them. The Legion of One attack deals significant damage, knocking the monster's health down a large chunk. In a last act of desperation, the monster lashes out at the party, swinging it's tentacle-like limbs rapidly. Dante manages to avoid getting hit, but Wormmon takes some damage. After another round of attacks from everyone in the party, the monster's health hits zero, and falls over, exploding into a big pile of green goo.
It was too close to call who had dealt the final kill. Dante checks the combat logs and sees Wormmon got the last hit. But what really mattered was the total damage, which Dust topped by far. Wormmon dives into the pile of goo. "Woo! Oh gross, it's sticky!" Wormmon smells the goo, then takes a bite of it. They then start shoveling goo into their mouth. "Nom nom, it tastes so good!" Dante checks the player's manual to understand more about the game. "It appears like we need this goo to stay fed in the game. It also acts as our xp. Wormmon quit hogging the xp!" Dante dives in and grabs Wormmon, throwing them out of the goo. Dante chows down for a bit, getting some xp. He steps on something sharp, and bends down to pick it up. "Hey, there's gear in here too!" "Well duh! That's what boss battles give you. XP and gear." "Ya, but to actually experience it in real life, I mean in the game, it's just bizarre. What other gear is in this carcass?"
Suddenly, Dante hears a familiar voice. Another player has appeared in the valley.
