It had been some time since Marshal and Coronamon had been seen in the Digital World, but it certainly didn't mean they hadn't been wandering around on their own for the past few months. They hadn't lied to Dust before, Marshal really was busy with school, but with every extra second of free time, the two of them were out investigating how that Brachiomon had entered the real world, to no avail.
"Man," Marshal sighed, "I feel like we haven't gotten anywhere." In the past four months, the two of them hadn't discovered anything that could be linked to the sudden appearance of a rogue Digimon in the real world.
"This can't be a coincidence, though," Coronamon reminded him. "Digimon don't just pop into the real world like that."
The two of them had made their way to the Village of Beginnings today, where new Digimon were born. This was the one place they hadn't checked for anything suspicious, since it seemed unlikely for anything sketchy to take place there.

Marhsal and Coronamon aren't the only ones in the Village of Beginnings today. Another boy is there, around the same age as the dork in question, wearing a uniform for one of the high schools in Shibuya. Good. Appropriate attire for wandering through a stupidly dangerous alternate dimension filled with monsters, naturally.
The boy isn't alone, either. He's joined by a child-sized imp with bright red hair who appears to be jumping over the Digitama in the area, or any Fresh Digimon he comes across. Safe! The pair are also accompanied by a tall, mildly alarming-looking green humanoid with a mirror-shield on the back of each arm, and another (with lips) for a face. That's...certainly something. Their finaly companion is tall imposing warrior with long golden hair and black armor that covers everything but his eyes, although ironically said armor is covered with eyes.
The boy, Tadashi, takes a deep breath as he looks out at the endless sea of Digitama. Mercurymon speaks up from his side, one of his mirrors briefly dazzling the boy with a display of light, "Forgive me, my lord, but I don't believe we are likely to find her here. It was--"
Tadashi holds up a hand, "I kn-know, it was a long sh-shot. But I just wanted to b-b-be sure," movement catches his attention in the distance. Another human! He beckons to his companions and starts towards Marshal and his pet red thing. Why? Well...the few times he had been here, he hadn't seen any other humans. Maybe he can help this guy if he's looking for someone, like he had been. "Hey. E-Everything alright?" he calls out as he approaches.

Today was one of those days where the bros felt nothing could possibly go wrong. What better way to spend it than to go to the most peaceful location in the Digital World? The Village of Beginnings was one of the few places where they hadn't been attacked, kidnapped, traumatized, or left in a state of peril since visiting the Digimon World. It made a great chance to get away from the stresses of the real world. Like Isaac's upcoming English test, for example, which he still insisted on not studying for.
"Look, I'm telling you, bro, we're already super fluent. What the heck is this test gonna do we haven't already known our whole lives?"
"If you say so. But hey, it's almost sunset, right? Might be a good chance to sit back and relax."
"Heh. And we haven't had nearly enough of that, have we?"
"You're the one who signed us up to help Datamon in a few days!"
"No, I signed me up. You're the one who pushed your way into what was supposed to be a secret mission."
"Because I'm not letting you get hurt alone. And I know you'd never let the same happen to me."
". . . heh. Guess we are lucky to have each other in the end, huh?" Isaac asked. He shuffled slightly, laying down on the grass. To the tiny in-training Digimon, he must've looked like a great big fallen statue. "Well, lets look forward to it, eh? Another long day to put behind us and call a success."
"Yeah. I can't wait."
Elliot started to peacefully doze off, likely for a quick 5-minute nap, while Isaac turned slightly and noticed a bunch of humans talking among themselves. And one of them looked quite familiar, too. Was something going on? Maybe he should've been paying attention after all.

"At least you didn't get us lost in a forest again," Kuu cheered, sprawled across his tamer's shoulders in usual fashion.
Of course, his statement warranted a quip of, "I don't recall being the one that got us lost." Though, that was actually quite a while ago, now that Maia was thinking about it. Quite a few months. This made the girl stop for a moment, considering, "how long have I had you, now?" Maybe Maia wasn't the best at keeping time.
With a seriously offended expression, the Digimon whimpered, "you don't remember what day we met?" With a sniff, and big eyes, the monster began, "it was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon an--"
"It was a Sunday morning. I wasn't at school," the tamer was quick to argue, raising an eyebrow. At least she could remember that it had to be her day off from class! "You don't remember how long it's been either, do you?" This warranted no response, and only a couple more sniffles from the dramatic fox. Oh well. At least the day was going well so far. The entire trip, so far, had been pretty peaceful! "What do you want to see so badly, anyway?" Kuu had been hounding the poor teen all morning to be able to come out to the Village of Beginnings! Frankly, it was annoying! They could spend their day doing anything, but it had to involve spending time with baby monsters and eggs?
The Kudamon pondered his response, before shrugging, "how long do spiders take to hatch?" Amber eyes widened, as Maia opened her mouth, only for Kuu to cut her off. "There are a lot of people here today!" With the village in sight, and now a lot of company, Maia grimaced and nodded. "I wonder if it's someone's birthday! I hope there's cake! I love cake!" Without much to respond to in that regard, considering it probably wasn't too far off for Digimon to celebrate their birthdays in this village, Maia would just continue walking around the area until Kuu told her to stop. Or began screaming at people. It was really a coin-toss on which would happen first.

Marshal turned to see a younger boy approaching him with a small troupe of Digimon. He assumed that this was another one of those Xros Generals, much like that weird kid he and Coronamon had run into a few months back. "I think so," he muttered as he gave the boy a small wave. "I came here to check out something, but it might have been a little silly to come here."
Coronamon wasn't paying attention, as he was too busy looking around at the group that was starting to gather. Two boys, unaccompanied by any Digimon were over by the nearby tree. One was laying down for a nap, and the other was staring at Marshal and the younger boy quizzically, the other approaching duo was...
"Maia!" the Digimon called. "Kuu!" He waved, happy to see the two of them again. It had been months!
Marshal looked over to see Maia approaching after he was done talking to the other kid. "Hey, Maia! What brings you out here?" he asked.

"Yeah, I kn-know the feeling," Tadashi admits quietly, "I'm h-here for the same r-reasons,". Oh! More people! Two boys without any Digimon partners visible nearby, as well as a girl and...some kind of ferret. Weird. Ferrets aren't as cool as walking mirrors, or little imp children, or...oh, right. Edgelord McEdgerson. Sigh. Stop dragging everyone down, Duskmon.
Tadashi offers a silent wave to the girl, having literally no idea who she is, and not wanting to interrupt whatever insightful conversation she and this other kid were about to have. Huh. Should he be asking for names? ...Nah.
"Jeez. I've n-never seen so many p-p-people around here before," he mutters quietly, and hoping for some kind of input from his partners, but...no. Mercurymon is too busy looking for somewhere he can display himself to the others more effectively, Flamemon is staring at Elliot and trying to work out where he knows him from, and Duskmon is...looming. Yeah. He's very good at that.

Place your bets, audience! Who would Isaac notice first? It probably didn't help that Elliot gave him a gentle nudge with his elbow as Maia started to approach, further catching Isaac's attention. "Are you two just scheduling secret dates when we're supposed to be hanging out?" Elliot teased. " 'Cause we've sure as heck 'bumped into' Maia a lot lately."
"Come on, bro. You know me. I'd just ask her out and leave you to babysit Kuu, as usual," Isaac responded matter-of-factly. He nudged Elliot back, the two chuckling at each others' reactions to these all-to-recurring circumstances. " 'Sides, we were supposed to be here to entertain the kids again after last time. Sometimes you gotta let work come first, right?"
"Yeah. Guess you gotta show off for her a bit, right Mega Dad of the Year?"
Isaac bristled just the tiniest bit. He wasn't exactly good with comparisons to fatherhood. Fairly obvious reasons behind that one, after all. He took the chance to hop up back to his feet, turning to Maia and the other she was with. "Well, I'll catch you when its time for the show again, bro. Remember, make sure to get Orochimon's heads real good this time, okay? We gotta make it look legit."
"You know I don't want to punch you in the face!" Elliot protested.
"I dunno, pretend I canceled your WoW account or something. Anyway, seeya!" With that Isaac walked off, heading towards Maia. "Hey there, Mai. Surprised to see you popping up around here."
Elliot shrugged, looking around to see if there were any conveniently placed friends he could interact with. As he noticed Flamon peering down at him, he realized that yes, there were! He limped up to Tadashi, smiling widely. "Hey there! It's been a while, eh?"
And this time he was unsupervised. No more Duskmon staring contests!

The first person (er, monster?) that Maia heard address them was Coronamon. Before she even had a chance to open her mouth, the Kudamon on her shoulder was shouting, "Coronamon! Marshal! Friends!" He was more excited than when he thought it was a birthday party!
Walking up to Marshal, the tamer shrugged, trying to make a motion to Kuu. "He wanted to check on the eggs, I guess." There was a more hushed, irritated sounding, "even though I'm sure the one he's looking for hatched months ago."
This received a small scoff from the fox, who was already dangling off of one shoulder to try to get closer to Coronamon. "What have you two been up to? Adventures? Have you done any cool stuff? Being heroes? Cool stuff?" Clearly, it had been far too long, without word from the duo, for the fox's tastes. Next time, they'd have to keep him updated somehow! An email would suffice, after all!
Now, someone else's voice caught Maia's attention. Turning her head, she looked to Isaac, and flashed a small smile. "Yeah, Kuu requested it." That made more sense than Maia wanting to sit around with a bunch of baby monsters all day. Babysitting one rookie with the mentality of a baby was more than enough for her. Though, it wouldn't surprise her any if Kuu enjoyed young Digimon's company. Looking back and forth between Marshal, Isaac, and the kid that she didn't know, the teen had to ask, "is it always so, uh, busy here?"

Coronamon was weirdly happy to see Kuu! Even though the little pipe fox could be a little...overbearing at times. "It sure has been a while," Coronamon grinned. "We've been pretty busy! Glad to see you two are doing well, too."
Marshal only recognized Maia out of the four other Tamers, so he decided to introduce himself to everyone else. "Hi there," he waved at the other boys. "I'm Marshal, and the orange one over there is my partner, Coronamon."

Tadashi eyes Elliot. It takes him a few moments to remember the little adventure he'd shared with the Sunderlands, where he'd recruited Duskmon to his little fighting force. "Oh, hey. Y-yeah, quite a wh-wh-while. Uh. How've you b-been doing? Everything g-good? Anything exciting b-b-been happening?"
Ah! More people speaking. He opens his mouth to respond to Marshal, but is quickly cut off by Mercurymon, "You have the privilege of speaking to Lord Tadashi Tenkuji. We are his retainers, Mercurymon the Radiant, Flamemon the Brave, and Duskmon the Vigilant," He gestures to each of them in turn. Tadashi's cheeks burn bright red in response, "...S-sure. Hey."

"Oh, that makes sense," Isaac said, nodding slightly. Maia did not seem like the type to suddenly show up in the middle of what basically amounted to a day care, after all. He looked at Kuu carefully, as if trying to gauge if the little fox had anything up his nonexistent sleeves. "He's not trying to adopt any of them, is he?" he joked, voice as dry as a stale biscuit. Sure, he was joking, but he was also half convinced that Kuu would've definitely pulled that off. Of course, now he was sure if Kuu didn't think of the idea before, he would've heard Isaac's sarcasm and immediately decide it was a great idea. Kuu was a really strange one, after all.
"It's usually not this crowded. Heck, usually it's almost empty. The kids get really tired out otherwise, dealing with all the guests," Isaac added, trying to think about his past visits to the village. "If it wasn't naptime right now, we'd probably be drowning in little blobs by now." The mix of pride and weariness in Isaac's voice was hint enough that Isaac had experience with this situation, but slowly the pride started to take over as he kept talking. "I mean, I'm here because Elecmon wanted my bro and I to put on a show for the kids once they wake up. He's gonna be the brave knight protecting the village, and I'm going to be-"
Isaac slammed a button on his Digivice and started to glow white, his silhouette fanning out into that of the eight headed Orochimon. "And I'm the big, bad dragon!" he finished, putting on his silliest 'big scary monster' voice. Even as the "villain" of the story, he was finding it hard to contain his eight ear-to-ear grins. "Not what I expected, but hey. I'm finally getting some experience putting on a performance!
Hopefully the kids aren't gonna be too viper-active today, or boa-th me and my bro are gonna be super tired by the time we're done."
With his presence here explained he turned his main head to Marshal, the others listlessly standing the horizon. "Nice to meet you guys. I'm Isaac, and my bro Elliot's right over there."
Speaking of Elliot, he was currently occupied with another conversation. "Oh, it's been great! Isaac and I have been going around, finding new spirits, helping people. And hey, we've finally got the hang of school over here, too! So yeah, stuff's been looking up for us all around.
How about you? What've you been up to?"
Of course, one thing had been missing from the Village of Beginnings all this time. The caretaker, of course! One of Isaac's periphery heads tapped the main head on the neck, signaling it to turn around and notice as Elecmon approached from north side of the village. "Ah, excellent. You've arrived," he said as he looked up at Isaac, voice placid to the point of monotony. "I trust you remember the rehearsal, yes?"
Isaac nodded in response. "You bet! Elliot and I have been working our butts off for this," Isaac said. However, he seemed a little perturbed by something. "Y'know, you okay? You seem a bit . . . tired." Elecmon usually had a bit of an animated, humble charm to him. His mannerisms and voice all seemed much more stoic than Isaac remembered the last two or three times he showed up.
"Ah, my apologies. Tending to others is rather draining, as you can imagine." That all seemed to check out, easing some of the boy's suspicious. Upon noticing the other three, he turned to them and nodded in acknowledgment. "Welcome as well, visitors. I hope you have enjoyed your time here so far.
Apologies for my prior lack of hospitality. I shall join you again shortly, after I tend to the eggs for tonight." With that Elecmon continued making his way through the Village of Beginnings, heading towards the largest hut toward the village's south end.

"I hope not," Maia mumbled, throwing a glance to her Digimon. "I can barely handle one of these things. No more baby anythings for a while." No digimon, no puppies, and not even virtual baby-animals! Screw the risk of anything else turning out to be some insane war-cuddles machine that gets offended by ceiling fans.
And, luckily, Kuu seemed to be having none of this. The little fox was fluffed up, having inhaled a large sum of air to emphasize this, and was staring at Isaac with an offended glare. "No adopting! I'm Maia's only attention-stealer!" Exhaling obnoxiously, the little digimon let out a few coughs in attempt to properly deflate. "The only one." Isaac had better not try to steal away his tamer! He didn't care if they were dating! Maia was his! Plus, Isaac still smelled funny. Who wanted weird-smelling people-snakes?
Particularly that snake part, as Orochimon made it's appearance. How was it not weird for Maia to date someone who turned into a bunch of weird monster-things? Kuu, despite being an odd-thinker, couldn't quite wrap his head around that one. Ah well. It wasn't like Isaac was a Digimon all the time. And, it wasn't like someone could just turn off their relationship with someone while they weren't in human form!
But, Maia was more interested in the boy's acting gig, than if he turned into a million different creatures in an instant. "That's great!" Now, if only it was something he could put on a resume. 'Put on Plays for tiny digital babies, refer to Elecmon,' probably wouldn't be taken seriously, unfortunately! And, the puns only made it better. The blonde was too busy covering her mouth to hold in laughter to even respond much further.
"It burns!" Kuu, on the other hand, had plenty to respond with. Letting out a loud groan, the pipe fox began to slide off of his tamer's shoulder. Soon, gravity took affect, and the rookie thudded, face-first onto the ground. "Do you do this to hurt me?" Yes, he was quite positive that Isaac was just trying to physically injure the little Digimon with words. The spirit user surely couldn't strangle his girlfriend's pet, so he had to attack in a more thought-out manner! Jerk!

Marshal smiled. It was nice to have interactions with others for a change. He was also shocked to see Issac suddenly change into Orochimon!
"Woah!" he shouted, pointing at the new Digimon. "What's up with that?" He had never seen a Spirit User before now, so this was a totally new experience for him.

"N-new spirits, huh? That's g-g-great. I knew you'd g-g-get the hand of sc-school and stuff h-here eventually," Tadashi replies with a little smile. Sounds like the Sunderlands are getting the hang of everything, Digital and...Analogue. His expression becomes a little harder to read as he answers Elliot's question. Avoidance! "Oh, uh. Y-y-y-you know. J-just the u-usual," his smile returns, although it seems a little forced.
He turns his attention to whatever Isaac's doing with his transformation and, uh. Some kind of red and blue bear thing. Oh, and it's gone again. Weird. Must be the caretaker of the eggs. Someone has to do it, right? Otherwise these eggs'd get squashed!
Duskmon returns to loom over his master, one eye locked on Elliot as the ones on his armor rotate around to keep watch on the other humans in the area. You can never be too careful with these squishy, deceptive, dataless creatures!

"I know, right?" Isaac said, glad Maia was taking interest in this latest twist in his hunt for work. "And to think I just showed up in the right place at the right time for it. Pretty neat how things just fall into place sometimes, huh? But I'm hoping if I get more confident with this, I can start working towards actual real world drama experience too." It was hard to find anything embarrassing in contrast to "put on puppet shows for small babies while in the form of a giant snake." If he could do this, he could do anything!
He shook his head at Kuu's despair, offering his tail to help him up. "Nah. You hear that?" At Maia's poorly-restrained laughter, a silly smile had spread across Isaac's eight faces. "That's why I do it. Worth all the bad jokes in the world hearing her laugh like that." Okay, Kuu's fumbling overreactions were kind of hilarious too, but if he wanted to see a small creature writhing around in peril he could've wandered until he found a Digimon in need of help. Still, it seemed the holidays were making Isaac even mushier than usual!
As Marshal's question Isaac turned around. "Oh, this? I'm a Spirit User," Isaac responded, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "This one's a pretty good form. My bro and I have got way cooler ones up our sleeves, though." He wasn't exactly the best at explaining this, but how did you even explain it? Spirit users are spirit users!
Elliot grinned happily at Tadashi's assurances. "Thanks! I can't say its been too easy," he admitted. "I've always been good at school, but trying to do all the work in a new language hasn't been too simple. But we've been managing really well. I think we'll be naturals at it within the next year or two." Unfortunately, Elliot wasn't the best at reading people, so he didn't notice much of Tadashi's put-upon smile. He did, however, know his question wasn't really being answered directly. "So what is the usual for you, anyway? I don't think we've ever really talked about it much."
Unfortunately, there wouldn't be too much time to talk. A strange, goat-like Digimon burst through the treeline, hovering on outstretched wings instead of actually walking. Its face was blank, but its pale pink eyeballs darted around specifically. It leaned its head slightly to the left as a tomahawk went sailing through the air, barely missing it and landing in the ground by Elliot's leg. A tall, humanoid dinosaur dramatically leaped over the escaping demon, pulling its tomahawk out of the ground and protectively standing in front of the entrance to Primary Village. "You've been skulking around the village for too long," the Dinohyumon snarled. "Answer for yourself! Why are you here?"
No longer moving, the Mephistomon settled into a neutral pose. Its stare was vacant, and its hands were outstretched. "You must listen to me," it said, voice completely blank. It was as if the Digimon was incapable of showing any emotion, no matter how hard it could have tried. If there was a line between serene and unnerving, Mephistomon's soft voice easily sailed over it. "I come bearing a warning. Elecmon's will is not its own."
Dinohyumon snarled in response, clutching its tomahawks tightly. It was clearly suspect of the demon, and as the Digimon responsible for watching over these lands it wasn't about to just let it start poking around a sanctuary like this. At the same time, was there truth to its words? After all, Elecmon did seem a little bit in a daze.
Maybe in all of the pondering, the slightly sulfurous smell wafting from the south would become all the clearer.
