A gentle, cool autumn breeze from the North was blowing through the park in North Shibuya. The sounds that could be heard were the rustling of leaves, families with young children playing, dogs barking, and the distant rumble of vehicles passing through this ward of Tokyo. It was a Sunday, not long after the moment Colin James's life had taken an interesting turn. That day, seemingly by fate, he had stumbled upon what seemed to have been a completely new world. And in that world, he obtained three things - a Digivice, and two digimon named Luke and Bellamy. Since they had met, the three individuals had got along quite fine. Both Luke and Bellamy were boisterous and playful and quite a handful at first, but by now, Colin had began to get to know them. Of the two, Luke enjoyed the ways of learning, asking Colin many questions about life on Earth and how humans live. Bellamy meanwhile was a bit more simple, the little Yaamon seemed to want to get to know Colin more as a person rather than bog himself down with trivia. Even if he could quite often be brash and rude, Colin saw that Bellamy was at his happiest when he made him and Luke laugh. Today, it seemed the twins' patience had come to an end. They were understandably tired of being cooped up in Colin's room pretending to be toys; or being stuffed into his gym bag so that they were close to him at school. They demanded to be given the chance to explore Earth. And so here Colin was. It had been a short train journey from his home in the Shibuya district, and to his delight, the park didn't have that many people in it today. A perfect opportunity for Bellamy and Luke to play around without arousing too much suspicion. Furthermore, he had snacks ready for the two of them when they'd inevitably tire out and get hungry. "Alright, guys, you can come out now" he said, taking his bag off his back and opening it. Finally, out burst two small in-training digimon - a Yaamon and a Red Wanyamon, both looking around at the surroundings with excitement. "Huh... this is actually really nice!" said Luke, looking up in wonder at the surrounding skyscrapers and lavish elevator school buildings. "About freakin' time!" Bellamy said, bouncing on the spot to loosen himself up. He thought he had made considerable sacrifice to his own dignity to come to this moment, and so intended to make the most of it. "Hey, Luke! Race ya to that fountain!"And so he immediately bounced off. "Hey!" Luke snapped at him, complaining he wasn't ready, but the Wanyamon bounded after him in an attempt to catch up. "Oh boy, I should've probably seen this coming..." Colin said to himself, running after them. "I would've brought leashes"Kai Haimura

In hindsight, the result was inevitable.
Kai Haimura is a retired Digimon tamer. That is to say, although he retains his partners and his digivice, he does his best to avoid the day to day life of a Digimon tamer. No trips to the Digital World. Certainly no battles or digivolution. No, about the only thing he kept from his time as a tamer was the need to keep his partners a secret from his parents. Which wasn't easy, when one had a habit of breaking out through his window and trying to hunt him down at school.
To combat such adventurous urges, Kai had had no choice- He relented, promising to take the two small creatures out to the park on weekends. The park was a place of great familiarity for the three. For the most part, it was regarded with fond memories. Though... It felt like half of those memories were of him running into someone, and shortly thereafter that person would receive a digivice. He was pretty sure that that was just a statistical anomaly, though. It was safe to assume that he didn't have a magical tamer-making aura.
What was also safe to assume, though, was that Digimon tended to attract other Digimon. It was a rare day that Kai had taken his partners out without running into other Tamers or Digimon. And today was probably no exception, as a voice from his bag yelled, "I smell new friends!"
The Digimon, who looked for all intents and purposes to be a cat, leapt out of Kai's bag and bounded off towards a fountain. It was fortunate that few people were nearby- Seeing him from a distance wouldn't raise any suspicion, but if people heard him talking, or saw him up close... Shiro may look like a cat, but the part where he was entirely white- Including his eyes and inside his mouth- would be sure to raise a few eyebrows if seen.
As Shiro bounded up to the fountain in pursuit of playmates, Kai just hoped they were the friendly kind of playmate. Not the half-kill you kind that, while mostly found in the Digital world... Had half-killed Kai in the human world, in the past. As a retired Tamer, he was not in any position to deal with that.
Kai's other partner, Kuro, was happy to stay put and quiet inside of Kai's bag. She always was the sensible one.

Finally, the twins reached the finish line at the fountain. Both of them huffed and panted, then grinned at each other.
“Heh, you just couldn’t beat me could ya?” said Bellamy, the Yaamon looking smug.
“What?! I was the one that beat you!” Luke argued, the Wanyamon huffing with indignation.
“You wish! I was clearly in the lead the whole time!”
“But I caught up with you, Bellamy, ya cheating jerk!”
“Don’t call me a cheater you... you... vending machine plush toy!”
Colin by now had caught up with them, and intervened before the little digimon boys started fighting.
“Guys, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“Colin, who won?!” both Bellamy and Luke asked at the same time.
“Er...” Colin was unsure how to approach this. Fortunately a distraction was provided when a white creature suddenly approached. Colin at first thought it was a white fluffy dog or some kind, or even a cat. But as he saw it close up, he realized it was in fact a digimon. No cat was that pure white.
“Ah! Heya there!” Bellamy said, the Yaamon bouncing so he faced him. “Did you see who won? It was clearly me, right?”
“Nope, it was me!” Luke claimed, the red Wanyamon bristling impatiently.
“Guys, calm down, it doesn’t really matter does it?” Colin asked, sweatdropping. “So... you’re a digimon too, are you? What’s your name?” the boy asked. He looked around to see if this digimon had a tamer. He saw another boy approaching, guessing he might be the one.

The white Digimon bounds up to his new friends. And they are his new friends. They don't have a choice in the matter. Everyone in the world, no, everyone in both worlds is Shiro's friend!"Heya!" the KoShiromon calls in declaration of his appearance. Kai instantly makes a worried glance around to see if anyone has noticed. So far, safe.
The new friends don't take long to take note of Shiro's presence. Apparently they need an impartial judge to some competition or another. A shame that Shiro was never all to clear on the definition of winning. "I know! You both win!" Shiro crowed. The naive idiot had never quite gotten the hang of the idea that in a competition, there could only be one winner. "Let's play!" To one unaccustomed to the white Digimon, this sudden outburst might be slightly unexpected.
It was around this point when Kai arrived. Just in time to answer the younger boy's question. Which was good, because Shiro had no intention of doing so. "Sorry, sorry. That one's Shiro. He's impossible to control once he smells other Digimon. The name's Kai." He extended his hand for a handshake.
It was safe to assume that the younger boy was a Tamer, or in the process of becoming one. He was able to recognize Shiro as a Digimon, after all, even if it weren't for the two that Shiro was in the process of befriending. Kai was relieved. He always hated it when he ran into people who were just receiving their partners- He felt obligated to explain, but he felt like he sucked at explaining and would cause problems for them later on.
Inceidentally, he didn't introduce Kuro. It wasn't like he was trying to hide her, or anything, he just didn't think it was important.

Bellamy and Luke looked momentarily disappointed to have their little race result in a tie. But in the end, Bellamy stuck his nose in the air, smugly.
"Well, alright, that's believable. Given that Luke's my twin brother and shares most of my data, obviously he'd get enough inherited talent from me to keep up" he said.
"Oh please, Bellamy, it's the other way around" Luke said, loftily. "I could run rings around you in our child level forms"
"Wanna bet, bunny-boy?!" Bellamy snapped competitively, although neither of them could prove it until Colin evolved them. But then their new acquaintance said that they should play together. The two twins liked that idea.
"Sure thing!" Luke said, brightly, glad to have another digimon around that they could play more games with. "What should we play?"
Colin meanwhile paid attention to the boy he guessed was the partner of this digimon. He said the digimon's name was Shiro, and that his name was Kai.
"Heya" Colin said, kind of glad to see another person with digimon so quickly in the day. "My name's Colin, and this is Luke and Bellamy" he introduced them, shaking Kai's hand. "I thought it might be good to take my partners out for a bit of fun, they don't like being cooped up in my apartment much" he grinned.
Bellamy meanwhile caught the whiff of another digimon. He bounced curiously toward Kai, sniffing up at his bag. "Huh... is there another digimon around?" he wondered out loud.

Shiro clearly didn't think the two winners were acting like they won. If you're a winner, then win with pride, like Shiro!
Well, Shiro doesn't care about that for long. That would require an attention span! He flashes an extremely white grin and declares, "A race! To the top of the fountain! I'll even give you a head start!" With the arrogance and pride of Shiro, he couldn't possibly race a Digimon that didn't even have legs, without giving it an advantage! That said, it would only take a single leap for Shiro to reach the top... If Kai didn't know Shiro, he might think that that was intentional. The truth is, Shiro's just an idiot and thinks that a head start makes it fair.
Kai was forced to make a sheepish smile at the other boy's statement. "Ah... Yeah, me too. I recently made the mistake of leaving mine cooped up for too long... My mother's still wondering how a baseball broke my window when the nearest reasonable ball-playing area is blocks away." Kai was slightly ashamed to admit his shortcomings to a younger tamer. It always made him feel bad to admit how bad he was at taking care of Digimon. There was a reason he retired from being a Tamer.
Kuro finally stirred from her rest. As black as Shiro is white, the Digimon whose appearance could best be called 'mustelid' poked out of Kai's bag. "Nnnngh" she yawned. Kai felt it best if he introduced her while she woke up. "Oh, sorry. This is Kuro. She's quiet, so she probably won't join in." Kuro not playing was always a safe bet to make.

Bellamy and Luke weren't really serious about their challenge to each other. They were just bickering light-heartedly as brothers do, getting a point here, challenging the other there. It was something they tended to do when in their in-training forms.
Luke looked up at the fountain with a bit of hesitation as Shiro said the next game would be to climb up to the top of it. "Oh... uh..." he wasn't sure he could make it. That and the water at the bottom was a bit worrying. He couldn't even swim in his rookie form, let alone his in-training form.
"Come awwn, Luke! Where's ya bouncy spirit?" Bellamy encouraged him, already distracted from what may or may not be in the other kid's bag at the thought of the challenge. "Besides, if ya end up in the drink, Colin'll pull you out! You need a bath anyway, your fur's gettin' really stinky!"
"Hey it is not!" Luke said defiantly. "Alright then. Ready... Go!"
Luke and Bellamy bounced onto the edge of the fountain, made it across the pool onto the first tier, then gradually up the cascade. A few more bounces and they'd be up there! They were neck-and-neck (despite not having necks).
Colin meanwhile was a little surprised when Kai said his digimon broke his window. "Oh wow" he said. "Luke and Bellamy haven't done that yet..." well, the worst they did was set fire to his homework when they were being careless. That had been the only time Colin had been really angry with them, partially because fire was a big no-no in his house, and also because "An Impmon set fire to my homework" was probably the least believable excuse for a teacher ever.
Then the second digimon popped her head out of Kai's bag. Colin looked with interest. "Heh, nice, you have twin partners too?" he asked. "Hey, Kuro" he said to her.

Shiro watched the other two Digimon climb with focused intent. His haunches wiggled as he tensed, preparing for takeoff. The fact that the exact amount of headstart hadn't been declared didn't seem to bother the white creature one bit. As his new friends neared the top, there was a burst of action- Shiro took off with one mighty leap, alighting with ease at the top of the statue. "Shiro wins! Loser chooses the next game!" The white Digimon crowed. The idea that they might not want to play never even crossed his mind.
"Yet, huh. Yours are troublemakers too, then?" Kai had quite a bit of experience with the troubles of uncontrollable partners. Specifically Shiro. Shiro would run off in random direction if he smelled something new. Or smelled another Digimon. Or smelled something delicious. Or when he got bored. Honestly, it was easier to track the times that Shiro didn't go off on his own.
"It is a pleasure to meet you as well." Kuro replied with a yawn. "And Kai, I am crushed by the fact that you would refer to me as a troublemaker!" She knew full well, of course, that Kai could never actually prove any of the pranks she pulled were hers. He suspected, of course, but Shiro was more than happy to steal the credit.

Bellamy and Luke made "Hey!" noises of complaint as Shiro beat them both to the top.
"That ain't fair, you're a higher level than us" Bellamy said, coming second, while Luke bounced up last, the Wanyamon looking a bit sulky.
"Colin...!" Luke called down to his partner. He bounced off the fountain along with Bellamy and landed on the grass near him. "Can we digivolve please?"
"Well..." Colin was hesitant, but supposed these two should be able to get the chance to play in their fully evolved forms. "Well alright" he relented. As he felt inside his pocket for his digivice, he answered Kai's question. "Well, they can be a bit boisterous, but, at least my parents don't know they're here yet" he said. Honestly, Colin loved having them around.
He pulled out his digivice and activated it over them. The Yaamon and Wanyamon instantly began to glow and transform.
"Aaagh! No!" Colin shouted as the light shone too brightly. He instantly took off his jacket and threw it over his evolving digimon. The shapes underneath swelled somewhat, and eventually, two larger bipedal animals poked their heads out from under it.
"Heh. Something up, Colin?" Bellamy asked, the Impmon grinning.
"You should tell me when you guys are gonna be so flashy, geez" Colin said, looking around the vicinity. Thankfully at that moment, the sun had emerged from behind a cloud above and most of the bystanders in the park hadn't noticed the flash.
"Well then, here we are" said Luke, giving Colin back his jacket. "These are our rookie forms" he said to Shiro. "Now we can play fairer, eh?!"
"Heh heh, yep, gonna have a level playin' field now" Bellamy added. "Now then, what game should we play next? Any ideas, Luke?"
"Yes actually" Luke said, the Elecmon scratching his chin. "One of us shouts out the name of a color, then all three of us have to find something that's that colour and touch it. The first one to do that wins, and the last person to pick one has to shout out the next color. Oh, and two people can't touch the same one, and it has to be a colour different to what you have on you now"
"Sounds a bit complex, but sure" Bellamy shrugged.
"Yep. So I pick... Blue!" Luke said, and ran up to Colin, proudly putting a paw against his jeans pants leg.
"Oh you-" Bellamy snapped, then looked around wildly for something blue. Flowers? Another kid? The water in the fountain? Yes that'll do!
"Got it!" he shouted, plunging his paw in the water, coloured blue in reflection of the sky above. "Aw, damn it, I don't know if my gloves are dry-clean only!" he complained. But he wondered if he got in before Shiro.

Shiro looked quizzically down from his perch. Of course he was a level ahead. That was why they put a handicap in place, wasn't it? Oh well. He struck a pose atop the fountain, looking very self satisfied despite the scandal surrounding his victory.
Kai quickly took a look around to make sure no one was watching. Even if it looked normal from a distance, a cat on top of a fountain would surely attract attention. Fortunately, the park was nearly empty. Which wasn't as surprising- Kai wouldn't be taking Shiro anywhere if he thought there'd be a crowd. He wasn't stupid.
All in all, he wasn't too concerned at the signature glow of Digivolution- It wasn't like Luke and Bellamy had grown to attention-grabby sizes. Sure it wasn't like Kuro and Shiro where they'd look perfectly normal when seen from a distance, but they weren't giant monsters like most Digimon became at Champion and above.
"Okay!" Shiro crowed at the announcment of the new game. But, hmm. What was blue? Okay, that wasn't nearly the dilemma it could have been. The answer was all around him! Shiro took a great leap in order to touch the great blue sky!
And then fell to earth with a great, wet splash. He can't fly, after all. Kai wipes the water off his face before making an executive decision to act as arbitrator. "Looks like you lose, Shiro." Knowing full well that Shiro would argue otherwise.
"Ahh, darn. I was so close, too! Okay, I choose... White!" He quickly bopped himself on the nose. No one said that the object he touched couldn't be himself, after all! Meanwhile, Kuro is happily going back to sleep.

Poor Shiro. Ending up in the water like that. But at least he seemed to be okay and immediately came up with a new color. White. Luke, who was standing near Colin, hoped to find something else on his partner. What color shoes was Colin wearing today? Black?! Oh snap that wouldn't work! Luke had to look for something else to touch.
Bellamy meanwhile was on the lookout for something white desperately too. He of course was too excited by the game to remember that his face was white. He looked at Luke who was on all fours, searching for a white flower or some kind in the grass. Bellamy then realized that his brother's backside was white, but... nah. That would just be weird. However, it was white on his front too.
"Hey Luke!" Bellamy said, running over to him. "Look what I've got!"
"Oh?" Luke stood up and turned around as Bellamy halted right in front of him, then prodded his white belly triumphantly.
"Ha! Looks like ya lose, bunny-boy!" he said.
"Huh?" Luke looked down, then realized that was indeed true. However he booped his brother's face with a little grin regardless, at least happy with third place. "Well then, let's try a tricky color now... Pink!"
"Aw snap!" Bellamy cried. He couldn't get an easy one here, he'd have to actually find a flower or something. Luke was already bounding off in search of some. Bellamy rushed to do the same.
Colin was smiling meanwhile as he watched the digimon play. It was like... they were really enjoying this. It was something like watching beings that were half children, half animals having the time of their lives. Colin then took the opportunity to talk to Kai.
"So hey, I was wondering, have you had your digimon partners for long?" Colin asked him. "Ah, and have you had many adventures in the digital world? I've just met a few people so far who have digimon and they've been telling me some cool stories". He was kind of hopeful to hear one from Kai too.

Pink!? Shiro hurried off with the other two Digimon in search of a pink object. Kai kept as much of an eye on them as he could, while still maintaining eye contact with the other tamer. Perfectly sensible concern was no cause to be rude, after all!
For long? Hmmm... Kai tried to think about it. "Hmm... I guess it would be... Just about exactly a year now? Huh. Time sure does fly. Feels like just yesterday, those two showed up on my desk. Kuro," Kai couldn't resist a chuckle at the memory. "Kuro told Shiro that to become my partner, he had to use blood to form a contract, so I met them when he bit my finger as I reached for a pen I dropped." It had seemed less funny at the time. Weird how time does that, eh?
Kuro, for her part, popped out for the mere sake of looking indignant. "Why, I have no idea what you might be talking about." the black creature mewed innocently, a tone of voice that simply screamed, "I know exactly what you're talking about, but you'll never prove it!"
Quite some time had passed since then. Most of the stories about times when Kai could and should have gotten killed. Stories that had no place darkening the mood on a day like today! He tried desperately to come up with good anecdotes, but none came to mind. So instead he settled for throwing the question back. "Whatever you say, Kuro. Anyways, what about you? How long have you been a Tamer?"

Colin was keeping an eye on his partners too. By now he saw that they had a bit of a competitive streak. And he hoped that Bellamy wouldn't do something like try and touch a woman's skirt to win. Thankfully they were mostly hunting through the flowerbeds, nobody else coming very close.
Then Kai said that he had known his partners for about a year now. The story of how they met made Colin surprised. "So they showed up here? On Earth?" he asked, impressed. Although he shouldn't really be surprised, digimon seemed to be able to board Trailmons just as easily as humans. In fact Bellamy and Luke had been on Earth some time ago as well, from the stories that they told him.
"Oh dear..." Colin chuckled when Kai said that a blood contract was involved. Thankfully Luke and Bellamy hadn't bitten him yet. He was now starting to realize that they were both very well behaved in comparison.
Then Kai asked Colin how long he had known Bellamy and Luke. "Ah, these guys. I met them about a week ago" he said. "I thought I took the wrong train from Shibuya, you see, so I ended up in the digital world. Then I arrived in Terminus City, and these two just... bounced up to me on the platform and said that I would be their partner".
Colin had felt a little lost at the time, but had accepted their assistance. In time, this bloomed into a full friendship. He smiled at the sight of the Elecmon and Impmon in the distance, shoving pink flowers into each other's face as they argued over who found theirs first. Eventually Bellamy let Luke win, while they searched to see if Shiro had found his pink object.
"We haven't been in any battles yet, but I've met some cool mentors that have helped us out a lot" Colin continued. "Honestly? I'm really happy to have met these guys".

Shiro was getting bored. He does have an attention span that makes a goldfish look attentive, after all. Fortunately, he had made a genius conclusion as to what was pink around here! Were not the inside of Luke's ears a very nice shade of pink? See exhibit A Shiro pounces. Sarcastically, this will most certainly end well. Kai just assumed Shiro had decided to change the game to a play-fight, as he was wont to do. Well, it was all in fun... No reason to worry, right? Well, any more reason than was generated by Shiro's near obsession with battle, as if unaware of the dangers. That was a good part of why he had decided to retire from taming- The danger was just too great. He couldn't bear to lose his partner, even the troublemaker Shiro. " Hmm?" Kai had been slightly distracted while watching the Digimon. " Oh, yeah. Honestly, it's pretty either-or. Actually, most Tamers I know received their partner as an egg. Sometimes, the whole thing just doesn't make any sense or follow a pattern. Drives me crazy." Heck, the times it made no sense probably outnumbered the times that it did. Kai was unable to repress a grin at the other Tamer's words. " I know what you mean. When it first happened to me, I was so surprised, literally all I could do was sneak them out to buy some fast food- Shiro was hungry, you see. A lot's happened since then," A strange look crossed his face as he remembered that not all those times had been good- The time a BlackGarurumon had sunk its teeth into his side, for one- but, " I wouldn't trade these two for the world. Which is good, because with Shiro around, it's not like I have a choice!"

Oh dear. Luke only saw Shiro pouncing for his ear at the last moment. With a cry of "Ah!" the Elecmon fell to the ground, losing his balance as the other rookie level grabbed his ear. He wasn't hurt though.
"Heh. Nice idea, Shiro!" Bellamy said, pleased at the chance to get his brother back for winning. "Let's give Lukey here his prize!" he knelt over the Elecmon. "Tickle time!" he tickled Luke's belly.
"AAHHH! NOO!!" Luke cried, laughing and twitching. "Damn you!" he giggled. Bellamy grinned, relentless in his tickling.
Colin couldn't help but grin as he saw them. Honestly, his partners were like kids sometimes, it was fun to be around them. He considered what Kai was saying, that most people found their digimon in eggs. "Huh, I see" he said. He would have been slightly surprised as both of his partners were mammalian digimon and thus probably shouldn't come out of eggs. But digimon had an odd way of biology. He found it probably easier not to think about it.
"Ah yeah, I have that problem with these two at home" Colin said. "They pretend to be stuffed animals if anyone sees them, but I still have to get them lots of things to eat. I find the easiest thing to do is go to the digital world and make sure they're fed before we come back" he explained.
"My sentiments exactly" Colin agreed on not selling his partners for anything. He smiled as Luke struggled free and pounced on Bellamy in return, tickling the bigger digimon, beginning a wrestling battle on the grass as they laughed.
