It had been a long journey. Rick couldn't believe that his time in the City of Luminas was so long ago. He had come a long way with Aegiomon to accomplish nothing, that's for sure. The pair had been traveling vagrants for the time being, unable to find stable shelter. They survived off of the kindness of others and the odd job that they could do. Somehow, Rick didn't seem to lose any weight in these hard times, much to Gio's displeasure. "Dammit, don't you get it? THAT is not the body of a hero!", he would say, shoving accusatory fingers furiously. "You look like a snack not a General!".Rick had learned to ignore the faun's mad chanting. For all he was concerned, this was very possibly a world of delusion or punishment, but he had long stored the matter in the "solved" category. Even if the world was fabricated of fiction, he was either too deep in delusion or too far in hell to ever escape. The most positive outcome to work from was that this world was real and he could escape it, or at the very least his poor disposition. So, one day, he let the devil talk in his ear.
"Look! This is an advertisement for a group that wants to fix the Digital and Human worlds. This has to be BIG hero work. THIS is our rags to riches moment!"
As much as Rick wanted to ignore Aegiomon's pushing, he had to give. This was information on the Human World! How to escape! All he had to do was play along with some group long enough to step out and BAM, the easy life. No more begging for food. Rick had, in retrospect, felt ungrateful for his life in the human world. Being homeless was no better.
Rick's eventual concession to responding to the advertisement had led them to a war-torn land. The trek across the plains was laden with silence.
Somehow, they eventually reached the address in a settlement on the great plains. They approached the cafe and silently admired the jutting platform structure, noticing a digimon sunbathing on it. It looked mighty comfortable. Before Rick could gather his thoughts, Gio began shouting.
"I am a mighty hero! Me and my sidekick are here to respond to your advertisement, so let us save the Digital World!"
Rick was in guffaw. The satyr had such a knack for overestimating both their importance and capability. Who was he to make such wild claims like that? Still, he said nothing. Anything to get him back to the relative safety of the human world.

At first they're a bit discouraged by the no guest state, but the moment... a certain someone with his partner came, their reaction was split into two. The human looks surprised, but overall wondering if Digimon have chuunibyou tendency afterall... and there's this problem with misunderstanding that they're "saving the world". However, the Dorumon instead lowered down his shade, trying to hold his laughter as hard as he could. He never thought that there's a guy even wackier than him in this Digital World. His face red from holding it back. The Aegiomon sure is interesting
"Um--"
Before Yuuki could say anything, suddenly Hikaru evolved himself to Alphamon, clad in jet black armor and white tattered cape, he stood regally, arms spread open like a king welcoming heroes.
"WELCOME, O HERO! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU!"
Yuuki somehow tempted to facepalm at his partner's antic, but decide to drown it and instead awaits for what he would say next... Five seconds passed in silence before--
"I'D SAY THAT I NEED SOME MONSTER TO BE SLAIN OR SOMETHING, BUT I'M ACTUALLY JUST PRETENDING TO BE A KING BECAUSE IT'S FUN!"
"GODDAMMIT HIKARU, YOU KILLED OFF MY EXPECTATION, GIVE ME BACK MY FIVE SECONDS OF HOLDING BREATH!" Yuuki quickly retorted to his partner who now guffawed.
Yuuki cleared his throat after changing the Alphamon back to his original, energy saving form. The Dorumon still snickering at his partner's anger. "Ahem, anyway... welcome... sorry to kill off your joy, though... we're not really organization of great heroes or the like. In fact, I think Digital World is really at peace at the moment... well, calm before storm one would say. Still... are you still interested in bettering the Digital World?"

Holy crap that's so metal.
Aegiomon couldn't hold back the awe for the now-Alphamon in front of him. The shining black armor, the mighty voice - another thought popped up.
He must be a bad-ass anti-hero.
...
Meanwhile, Rick was literally dumbfounded. Out of nowhere, a mighty digimon appears to great them, and even recognize Gio as.. a hero? Was the satyr somehow not completely incompetent? The human eyed the digimon carefully.
One day, Aegiomon's idiotic ideals might try and prevent me from returning to the human world. If that happens, I'll have to either move him out of my way, or...
...
While the boy thought away, the digimon acted.
"King or not, you're smart enough to recognize my heroic talent. And I noticed the lack of action! It's pretty bad when heroes can't even do their jobs, am I right?"
...
... pretty bad when heroes can't even do their jobs, am I right?
Something about what Aegiomon said made Rick uneasy. Didn't that conflict with the ideology of a hero?
The mysterious digimon becomes further shrouded.
...
"Hell yeah I'm still interested," he exclaimed ", because helping is the same as saving, in my eyes! We're you're guys!"

"Psh, everyone can be hero if people gave them the chance," Hikaru the Dorumon spoke, grinning. "That is if only they want to be a hero. Remember, kids, there are heroes inside of you, no matter what you think, the matter is that you just need to unearth them."
Yuuki just thought that it's so damn cheesy, but decided to shut it for now. Both the human and his digimon did not let it pass their notice that the guy actually felt like he need to do a job... which the two understood that he's not in here to be a hero in its more noble meaning. He seem to want recognition and fame.
"Is that so?" the human remarked, but he's not waving the guy off for wanting that sort of thing. "I'm very happy you're interested to join but... we're unfortunately not justice orientated organization in case you want to fight some baddies. We're more to relief team. You see the plains here? There are so many holes here and there are effort to fix 'em up. Our goal is simply to help restoration to places like this. We can be also relief team in disaster... but we're not talking about eliminating bad guys, no. Eliminating bad guys are works for the other team. If you want to do it, then so be it. But you don't bring organization name to your evil beating actions. We're neutral organization and always want that neutrality."
"Well, as the guy say," Hikaru commented. "Ah right, sorry for being late, but I'm Hikaru. As you can see I'm a Dorumon. This guy here is my partner Yuuki. He's kinda a killjoy, but he meant good. A realist, I guess?"
"...No I'm just a tsukkomi to your boke."

Aegiomon thought for a long moment, which was uncharacteristic of his normal response. Who knows what dark things happen in the goat's head?
"On second thought, that doesn't sound 'big-time' enough. There's no way we can be big-time heroes picking up trash off the side of the road, right?"
His attitude did a 180, going from impressed to dressed with boredom. 'Saving the planet' was never a big selling point, to Digimon or Humans, apparently. It's all about the immediate threat, the immediate danger, the action, the thrill, the risk. Safe solutions don't get fame. And that's what Aegiomon was after. Worship.
...
Okay, he's definitely acting weird.
Ricky silently observed Aegiomon betray the character that he had built up. It was slight - a line between vanity and deception. And maybe it was paranoid. But Sai was totally sure of it now; the hero bit was all an act. But for what?
...
Aegiomon yawned, nodding towards Ricky (as if they suddenly understood each others body language any more than they normally understood one another, which was not at all) to follow. The human sighed at the borderline command, apparently used to following the Digimon, and they left the settlement, on to the next opportunity.
