"Ease off on the throttle there, Pops. You're gonna pull something." Genesis sat on a nearby ledge, watching her partner pulling a rope hand-over-hand with a large tire on the other end. He grunted with every pass off his hand, eventually bringing to him and breathing out as he walked to the other side of the fenced in area. He wrapped a harness around his waste, which connect him to several large metal weights. He hopped up, grabbing the pole above and pulling himself up, then lowering himself, then repeating. It had been like this for days now; Viktor would wake up early, workout for hours on end, eat, workout some more, eat again, workout one more time and then sleep.
Perhaps it was the fact that when she saw him in such a dilapidated state that him building back up made him look bigger than he was before. But he was already more than healthy looking now, in fact, he was downright fit. Save his beard and long swept back hair; Viktor was back to his regular self. He sighed as he rotated his arms forward and stretched his shoulders;
"You need to train. No doubt you're as rusty as me."
Genesis rolled her eyes and hopped down, landing next to Viktor; "Digimon don't really 'decay' like that. But maybe a brush up wouldn't hurt." She said with a slight playfulness in her voice, walking over and standing next to her partner. She watched him jump back up and continue to lift, it was hand-to-hand after this!
Eventually they finished up and found themselves walking into a restaurant they frequiented while they gathered strength in Whitewater; It was a quaint little seafood place just on the oceanfront. The business was decent, but not enough to be truly busy. It was enough that Viktor could eat in peace. Genesis seemed to enjoy the breeze and the vistas, so truly everyone won. He had an hour or two to kill, so he figured he might as well catch up with Genesis, who seemed a bit distant of late.
"Little one. I've noticed you've been... at odds with me the last few days. Should we talk?"
"When I'm ready, old man." She didn't even bother looking over at him.
Viktor pursed his lips, but left it for now. He couldn't force her to talk about her problems if she didn't want him to help her. Though he didn't convey it well, he did care for her and hoped all was well. But he shouldn't have to wonder, Genesis was the closest thing to family that he had. No doubt it wasn't a one way street, but he supposed after five years he was a bit of a stranger now.
For now, he simply enjoyed his meal, there were too many ears for this conversation. They'd discuss it later in private. That is, if she even would open up about it.

"Please take your seats. We are about to land at Whitewater" the pleasant, professional voice of Daedalus spoke through the intercom.
"Whew, already?" Bellamy asked, surprised, the Impmon taking a seat in the lounge cabin. He had barely finished buttoning up his tropical shirt in preparation for a night out on the town in one of his favorite cities.
"Well obviously since Daedalus is a Mega level now it takes less time" Luke said, the Elecmon having put on his shirt a while ago. Their partner Colin, as a human, was wearing his shirt the whole time. And pants as well, unlike them.
The three of them were riding the Heliodramon known as Daedalus into the city. A machine type digimon that had been their mercenary, ally and friend for quite some time now. He would take them on all sorts of adventures throughout the digital world. And as an airship digimon, he provided them with much comfort.
And so, Daedalus soon found a flat area of land in the city's park. Thankfully there was nobody in the way, so the landing was clean. Quite a few curious digimon were looking at them though as they descended the stairs and entered the city.
"Thanks so much, Daedalus" Colin said once they had disembarked, raising the digimemory to store Daedalus's data. The Heliodramon didn't mind. Within the digimemory was an endless simulation of various flights that he would embark on, still doing what he enjoyed.
"So then, where to?" Bellamy asked, straightening his shirt. He tended to wear his red scarf like a tie when in civilized settings.
"We're meeting Marshal at the restaurant" Colin said, looking at his watch. Bellamy grinned, his tail flicking with excitement. Meeting Marshal meant being with Coronamon, and that was something he always looked forward to.
And so the three of them entered the seafood restaurant at the waterfront, a gentle cool seabreeze blowing over Colin's skin and Luke and Bellamy's fur. Yes there were other humans and digimon here, but Luke and Bellamy were unique enough to stand out in a crowd.
They took a large six-seat table around the middle of the room, near what looked like an adult man and a Renamon. Colin glanced curiously. He seemed quite pale and had striking blue eyes. He seemed covered with scars and tattoos. He looked like he had been through a lot.
After a second, Colin looked away, realizing it was rude to stare. He hoped Marshal and Coronamon would arrive soon.

The setting sun painted the lovely city of Whitewater all shades of orange and red as a similarly-colored motorcycle sped through its streets. Marshal North was in full-on panic mode, as he had made plans to meet Colin and the twins at the restaurant Coronamon had recently been working at, but had totally forgotten about it to go relax on the beach.
***
Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Coronamon was hard at work cooking up meals for all the customers that day. He and Marshal had a bit of downtime, so he decided to take some time and work at the restaurant that had taken him in while he and his Tamer had been separated. The manager enjoyed having him, as he was a splendid chef.
With a bit of a lull in the incoming orders, Coronamon decided to venture out from the kitchen and into the lobby, where he spotted Bellamy instantly. Elated, he ran to give his boyfriend a hug, still wearing his chef's outfit. "Babe! I'm so glad you could make it!" he grinned.

A stark, almost abhorrent sigh escaped Viktor's lungs as he leaned back in his chair. That Coronamon, the chef that had been preparing his meals since his duration of stay in Whitewater, was out and in full force with the noise. Running in to see what he proclaimed was his lover. He didn't think Digimon truly had relationships and queried his partner on the subject;
"I didn't know Digimon held relationships like that."
Genesis held up a paw, pursing her lips with an arched eyebrow. It convyed a look of disbelief: "Really, pops? You don't remember Zephyr? You fought him... twice!"
Viktor stroked his beard, recalling the young Gaomon and the two's relationship. It was brief, if he recalled correctly, but the two were in a fling. He responded with a shrug and returned his attention to the party that were disturbing the peace he so desired. A single human with an Elecmon and Impmon, which he assumed one of the digimon's roles was similar to that of Koneka; a mercenary digimon. The overexcited Coronamon damn-near tackled the Impmon as he made eye contact, obviously ecstatic to see him.
Genesis looked them over, they didn't seem to be a threat, as was the norm in the digital world. But the worst evil lurked behind the friendliest of faces. Viktor was wary as well... no doubt the bombastic group would feel Viktor's icy-blue eyes judging them. Not for their choice in relationship, but simply for disturbing the peace. Maybe they'd misread, he didn't care. Right now, it was more about a silent 'Quiet down' than anything else. Though Genesis wondered if he conveyed that properly with his striking visage he was shooting them.

"Heh, heya, hotstuff" Bellamy said, standing up as he saw Coronamon. He returned the cuddle and lightly kissed his cheek, delighted to see him again. Although then he noticed that he was in his chef's outfit. "Er, are you meant to be out here?" he asked, a little sheepishly. "I don't wanna get you in trouble, babe".
He was speaking with a soft voice so that other patrons weren't disturbed. Bellamy's emerald eyes scanned the room briefly, noting that a human was staring straight at him with chilling blue eyes. Not a warm blue like Luke's were either. He understood it as a look of annoyance, not disgust, as the Impmon had never really encountered someone that felt that way about his relationship with the orange lion.
"So, uh, do you have a few moments to chat?" Bellamy asked, he wouldn't hold up Coronamon's time if he was working. "If not, later would be okay" he winked. Coronamon could talk as long as he wanted then, Bellamy loved the sound of his voice.
Colin meanwhile was turning a little pink as he noted that Bellamy and Coronamon seemed to be getting the ire of other patrons. At least Bellamy was getting a bit quieter. Luke noticed as well. Something about this guy kinda disturbed him. But the Elecmon hoped it was just his skittish paranoia that was telling him that, and not an actual sense of danger.

Coronamon felt the stares from the patrons, but he didn't really mind. They could stare if they wanted. He was basically running the place tonight, after all! "I probably should get back to the kitchen," he said. "Those guys would fall apart without me, after all! Marshal should be here soon. I'll be done before you know it!" With a quick, quiet peck on the cheek of the one he loved, Coronamon twirled and danced his way back to the kitchen with a newfound energy.
***
Marshal quite literally drifted into place, coming to a stop in front of the restaurant. He took a moment to return the digistructed vehicle to his D-Arc before stepping inside. He noticed that Colin and the twins had just arrived, and hadn't sat down yet. "Hey, guys!" he said pleasantly, patting Colin on the back. "Sorry I'm late! Was just checking something out on the other side of town and lost track of time."

It seemed, at least to the duo seated across the restaurant with their backs to the wall, that all was simmering down. The Coronamon rushed back to the kitchen, the others took their seats and mingled amongst themselves. Viktor didn't mentally let up, he continued to scan the room, watching for anything he might deem 'out of place'.
Suddenly, a new group of patrons entered just after the other human. They were... out of place. At least to Viktor. First off, most who came to Whitewater for the pleasures it offered. With a very small citizenship compared to other cities, it was no doubt those who traveled through were looking for a vacation. These digimon were tense, mentally strung up. They weren't here for a vacation.
Viktor tapped Genesis on her gloved forearm, she looked up from her menu and Viktor signaled his head to the group that sat down directly next to the group that was annoying him just seconds ago. The subtle hints of sneaking on a target were lost in the digital world, or at least these 'hunters' were just subpar. Their eyes darted back and forth, they would bury their faces when anyone would take notice. To Viktor... they might as well have worn T-Shirts that advertised their business. When someone would come around to take their order, they'd seem distracted. Some might order just water or something simple like Hamburgers and fries.
Viktor would definitely take notice of that. He spoke to Genesis while 'looking' over the menu.
"Five digimon. Just on the other side of the group we just heard."
Genesis knew of Viktor's profession, but didn't fully understand why he was so keen on seeking problems that weren't there. Rarely were his predictions truly auspicious, but she knew better than to doubt.
"They ordered some water and a hamburger? What's wrong with that?"
Viktor sighed, "It's the combination of things. The type of digimon, the tenseness, the deflection of eye contact. They're quick ordering, which means they're moving fast. They don't want a fight, otherwise they'd have attacked us. No... something else. They must think you're still unable to go Mega."
Genesis stood up, the group behind her tensed with her; "Should I prove them wrong?"
"No. We're already wanted by one city. No need to tack on that list. They're trying to keep it quiet, we do the opposite."
Genesis cocked her head; "How do you suppose we do that?"
He flagged down the waiter; "Excuse me, I'd like to speak with the chef. Could you bring him out here?"

"Heh, okay. See ya later, babe" Bellamy said as Coronamon returned to the kitchen. Man, that chef's outfit was so cute. Maybe Bellamy could ask him to wear it next time they were alone? But nah, the Impmon didn't want to make fun of his professional life like that.
He sat back down, and not long after, Marshal entered. "Hiya" Colin said, grinning at him. "You just missed Coronamon, he's working in the kitchen at the moment" he said. "Ah that's okay though, he should be back in a bit".
Some more digimon entered and sat down nearby. Colin was still paying attention to Marshal, asking "How have you been lately?" and things like that. Bellamy was running his gloved claw around the rim of his wineglass, daydreaming about Coronamon. Luke meanwhile kept glancing at the new arrivals. The sharp-eyed and alert Elecmon was more alert about these things than his brother was.
But he saw nothing that would be cause to notify Colin and Bellamy yet. He would just be sure to keep an eye on things.
Then the guy with the chilling blue eyes and the Renamon partner asked to see the chef. This made Luke confused, what did that guy want with Coronamon? Was their meals taking too long? Or was there something else?

"Doing alright!" Marshal reported. "I've just been hanging out around town while Coronamon's hard at work. There's a lot of fun stuff to do in Whitewater, after all!" He was distracted by conversation, so he didn't really notice what was happening nearby.
***
The waiter, Delumon, quickly made his way into the kitchen. That guy that had asked to see Chef Coronamon was scary! It was better to not keep him waiting. "Chef," he called, "The man at table 14 wants to see you."
Coronamon was standing over his current creation, a lovely sirloin steak. Marshal was coming, after all, and this was his favorite thing on the restaurant's menu! "Got it," he said, quickly pulling the steak off the grill at the perfect moment. "I'll be right out!" He passed the plate over to the rest of the kitchen staff, who were hard at work finishing up other orders. The little red lion walked back out into the lobby and locked eyes with Marshal, giving a little wave as he did so.
"Hello there," Coronamon said pleasantly as he walked over to the man with the steely-cold stare and the Renamon accompanying him. "I'm the chef here. Can I help you with something?"

The digimon in the corner of the room were still trying to act nonchalant, like nothing was going on. Like they weren't there to take Viktor back to his indentured servitude. Even as the waiter came, nertciusky agreed then rushed off the kitchen, they pretended to act like nothing was happening.
The Coronamon was standing in front of him faster than he could think a plan, but he didn't show it. His head was already formulating a plan as the digimon spoke. He needed something to egg the Coronamon into a little bout of anger. Nothing to get him to fight, just frustrate him. He though of thing he could say or do to accomplish this, it would have to be something he held personal.
His relationship? Too easy. More than likely he was used to people berating, or not approving of, his relationship. No, something he wasn't expecting. He had been coming here for a few days now, one thing he noticed was that the Coronamon took pride in his ability to cook. Or at least, that's what he gathered by consuming his meals.
"I ordered a sautéed shrimp with sirloin combo. The shrimp was undercooked and the meat was over cooked. I've been coming here the past few days and expected more than this..."
The way he spoke was a subtle mocking. Trying everything to goad him into a reaction. He thought even that might not be enough, so he played the part of a seriously unhappy customer;
"All I ask is for a decent meal. Seriously, that's it."
Viktor gave the same piercing glare from before, Genesis herself seeming a little on edge as she crossed her arms and observed. She wondered where he was going with this.
"I guess next time I should try my luck at the restaurant next door."
He knew that was a low blow, due to the competitive nature of their establishments, and had to strike some kind of nerve. Even if not, the mercenaries would soon start playing to a delusional sense of altruism. They took the bait, revealing to not just Viktor, but Genesis as well. One mercenary stood up behind Coronamon. An Orgemon, green, ugly thing with his mouth affixed open at all times.
"This one is trouble, I can tell. Coronamon-chef, why not stand back and let us handle it. Put a human in his place for you."
Maybe the Coronamon would accept his 'help', maybe he'd see right through the Orgemon and deny it. Either way, Viktor spoke:
"Did they at least pay you well? I'm sure a corrupt government like Luminas could afford the best."
The already slack-jawed digimon looked even more so. Not expecting his cover to blown quite so easily. He calmed down and chuckled:
"Well enough to hunt the likes of you. We gonna do this the easy way or the hard way?"
Viktor looked to Genesis, who nodded, "What do you think? Let's take this outside, because I may have said foul things about the food, I fully intend to eat after we're done sending you back."
The group only chuckled as they pushed off the table and followed Viktor and Genesis outside:
"Last warning. Leave or die."
The Orgemon smiled: "Who do you think you are? Bossing US around?"
Viktor pulled his Digivice, a telltale sign of his previous unknown status as a tamer. They assumed his partner was unable to digivolve. The device was proof otherwise.
Viktor clicked it on; "Someone with nothing to lose."

Luke watched as Coronamon strode out of the kitchen to ask the man what the matter was. And he cringed a little when the man was very publicly voicing his dissatisfaction with the service in the restaurant. Bellamy noticed as well, the Impmon's emerald eyes narrowing with dislike.
"Who the hell does he think he is talkin' to my hotstuff like that?" Bellamy growled, but said no more as Luke gripped his shoulder before he could stand up and intervene.
"Easy now, Bells, this isn't our business" Luke said. "Coronamon can hopefully come to a settlement with a customer, we don't want to make things worse for him".
"Ugh... this blows" Bellamy frowned, folding his arms. All he could do was support Coronamon later if this event upset him. Then things became more complicated. An Ogremon had joined in and said that the human was trouble. By now, Colin was paying attention too, he and his digimon watching the argument with worry.
Then it seemed that the Ogremon and the human with the Renamon had a longstanding grudge. Luminas was mentioned. Then the group thankfully went outside, seemingly for the purpose of fighting. Several patrons wandered up to the window to watch.
Bellamy meanwhile walked over to Coronamon. "Don't worry about what he says, babe, your cooking's always awesome" he said, hoping that would make him feel better.
Luke watched with worry as the digimon from Luminas and the ice-eyed human squared off. "Should we intervene, Colin?" the Elecmon asked.
Colin glanced at Marshal, then looked back at the fighting. "Only if they do damage to the restaurant I'd say" he said. After hearing about the conflict in Luminas from Kan, with this group called Vexus involved, he didn't really want to bring his friends or PROFIT into the conflict.

Coronamon was a little shocked that this guy was so dissatisfied with his meal. He had double checked this order several times to make sure it was suitable for consumption, just like he did with every order. What could've gone wrong? "I-I'm sorry, sir," he stammered, "I'll get this fixed right away-" He was stopped immediately when some newcomers stood up and offered their help.
Marshal finally took notice as the scene unfolded. "Aw, shit," he muttered under his breath. "How does this always happen?" He started to get up from his chair, but stopped as Coronamon gave a response.
"It's no problem," Coronamon answered. "If this man has a problem with his meal, then it's my job to fix it." However, it seemed that the crowd was moving outside. However, a fight outside of the restaurant was bad for business. "Marshal!" Coronamon called. "I'm gonna need your help clearing this mess!"
"You got it, bud," Marshal sighed, finally standing up from his chair. "Sorry, guys," he said to his table. "This'll just take a minute." He linked up with his Digimon partner and walked out to find the man and his Renamon partner staring down the other crowd.
"Hey, fellas," Coronamon said, cracking his knuckles, "I'm gonna need you all to take this elsewhere. Having a fight right outside the restaurant is bad for business."

The answer to this 'Marshal' was as rude as Viktor's attention grabbing complaint. Except this time it wasn't the assassin speaking.
"Don't interfere, kid." the mercenary said, pulling his club from his pouch, "We've grounds to take down anyone who opposes this fight."
Viktor didn't speak, only stared down his foes. The plan was simple; He'd lure them outside by causing a slight scene in the restaurant. No doubt the Mercenaries wouldn't care about the due regard to the public. He knew that Someone in the restaurant would care a fight would take place outside the restaurant, be it from the Coronamon, who was surprisingly apologetic, or the human who worked with him. Either way, Viktor would lead them along, hoping they'd fight each other.
"I wouldn't call what is about to happen a fight."
"Big talk for someone with no digimon. That's right. We know you and your partner can't digivolve. You're just two walking paychecks. The price on your head is so large... I hope you have friends in that Vexus group that decided to attack! I won't say it again, little human." he was now facing Marshal, "Get lost or get killed."
Viktor was standing against three Orgemon. His stance wide, his fist clinched. He was ready to throw down, despite the fact he was clearly outmatched. Though he never directly spoke to Marshal, he hoped they'd push the kid in the direction he wanted. This was his domain, they were deciding to approach with hostility, rather than doing as he asked.
As they all grabbed their clubs, Viktor looked around. His partner was no-where to be found. It seemed, at least to parties involved, that he was alone. The Mercenaries definitely took note of that;
"Seems the fox turned tail. I don't blame her... you ditched her now she ditched you."
Viktor's face didn't change. A personal shot, regardless of how close to the nerve it struck, wouldn't phase him. Not when he was playing his hand.
Though, he wondered how long it would be until he had to play his Royal Flush.

The threat to Coronamon was the final straw. 'And I got grounds to roast your ass if you ever threaten my boyfriend again' Bellamy thought as he glared at the Ogremon, instantly disliking him much more than the customer that had publicly complained about Coronamon's food. The Impmon realized he had probably been a bit hasty to be so defensive about him. Just with the ordeals that Coronamon had gone through so far, Bellamy only ever wanted to help him feel happy.
"Bellamy, easy now" Colin said, putting his hand on the Impmon's shoulder. He didn't want them to get caught up in Luminas business if they could help it. Yes, he knew all of Bellamy, Luke and Coronamon could access Super Mega, but he didn't want the more scarier fighters of that city to bear down on them. Bellamy understood, then walked over to Coronamon.
"Easy, babe, we don't know what's goin' on here" he said. "We got a young family, I don't want to get us tangled up in Luminas business". He then narrowed his eyes. "Wait, why are those lofty stuckup angels sendin' virus attributes to do their dirty work?" he wondered.
As the fight seemed inevitable outside, Colin was really unsure of what to do. It was none of his business, but... three champion level digimon facing a human. This was really unfair.
"Come on, can't you guys talk about this?" Luke asked. While he too was nervous about the upcoming fight, there were just too many variables. "What did this human do? What are his crimes?"
Colin went with Luke's reasoning. However, his hand clasped the D-Arc in his pocket. At the very least, he could perhaps slash a card that would make the combatants at least listen. But where did that Renamon go? Had she truly ditched her partner. That was... just horrible. The more he thought on it, the possibilities that the human might have done terrible things increased in his mind. But he wouldn't yet make a judgement either way. That wasn't his place.

Coronamon looked back at Marshal expectedly. Unruly customers weren't an uncommon occurence around the restaurant, and Marshal was usually there to help his partner out if he needed a little extra boost. Regular patrons to the restaurant would recognize what was coming next. Marshal responded immediately by grabbing the trusty blue card and slashing it through his D-Arc. "Digi-Modify!" he shouted. "Matrix Digivolution, activate!""Coronamon Matrix Digivolve to...Flaremon!"The imposing figure of Flaremon towered over the others. He wasn't looking to actually fight, but hoped it would discourage any actual combat. "Now, I would appreciate if you would kindly explain your purpose for coming into my restaurant and instigating a fight," he said, folding his arms and making his voice sound as deep and threatening as possible. Marshal, meanwhile, turned to face the older man. "What on Earth did you do to piss off Luminas?" he asked. "While I'm not normally one to pry, this all seems kinda sketchy and I wanna know what I'm getting myself into."
