"True point there, Hopefully they can live in a healthy sort of manner."
K rubbed her muzzle again and sighed softly. She did truly want the individuals whom she had come to care for to live happily and healthily. She wasn't sure how they would handle it in the long term but she had another set of questions to ask them the next time they interacted.
She'd stick out her tongue a little bit at the idea that the Mikemon had stuck out. He so far was the only mikemon that she had actually met, along with a fair list of other things. It wasn't every day you could meet someone as reliable as he; after all if they didn't meet it was very likely k herself wouldn't be sitting here in the fashion that they were.
"I wouldn't so much call it sticking out, but I'm not really sure what to call it. So it'll have to do hah."
She felt a snicker arise and she'd rub her muzzle. That grin still on her face after a few moments. What could she actually say about it? It didn't seem like something more; but there honestly was more to it than just simply sticking out from the crowd.
What he said next made sense and the Shutmon paused to consider what would be at the end of all this. Where would she be with having jesmon firmly as her core? Having examon helping her, not so much in the same fashion... but ultimately as a form and perhaps even advice giver if jesmon was kind enough to allow her personality and memories to stay somewhat segmented?
What would the two of them really be able to continue forward properly? With those bits along side of her?
The silence that she was greeted with mixed with the general reaction that the mikemon had made the Shutmon breathe a little easier. She had said quite a bit and she wasn't sure how he would react to all of that.
"I'm glad you agree."
The gentle grip on her hand reminded her of the somewhat awkward difference in size between the two of them along with general build and other somewhat interesting factors. Would he be comfortable with her being like this all the time? She could only wonder.
"That's part of life isn't it? Not knowing what's going to happen, I couldn't even imagine half of the things that had transpired more than a year ago. As it stands we already agreed to move forward as we can."
She'd exhale softly and look around, blinking owlishly as the place was surpriingly still busy.
"We don't need to put our focus into it Mikemon. It's just there. That's the part that matters."
She'd pause and consider something, opening and closing her mouth a little bit for a long and somewhat soft moment.
"It might be some time before it's settled and that's okay, but that's also part of life learning to shuffle things around to make due."
She'd return his look and gentle squeeze before rubbing the back of her neck.
"....Well... We can take some time off to find out if you really want to. Past my traveling I don't really... I don't really do much else. So I can stay around if you want me to; for a bit at least."

Just a couple hours ago, Mikemon would not have expected this - heck, even ten minutes ago, he was almost certain that this was just going to end up as a nice dinner between friends. But here he was, warmly looking into K's eyes, discussing what the future might hold for them. Despite the setting, and despite the circumstances that the two met again like this, well, the doctor felt a comfortable warmth in his heart.
"Well, one way or another, moving forward is all we can do." And she was right: that it was there at all was the most important thing - or at least, that's what the cat thought at the moment. Sure, there was a few things that had to settle first, but feeling the squeeze around his hand, the Mikemon's blush deepened at K's words, about 'taking time off'. "I think we'd enjoy that. There's so much more of Whitewater to see than I could just show you in one day. Once the core's settled in, I'd definitely like for you to stick around..."
Just at that thought, however, Mikemon's ear gave a flick, the sound of sizzling steak cutting through the air. Yes, that was the waitress carting over their dinner, the cat giving a chuckle. "Forgot where we were, for a moment." Slowly pulling his paw back, he gave a nod to the waitress, thanking her as the plates were set out before them, each with a well-seasoned, perfectly cooked steak. "Well, for now," Mikemon nodded, taking the first sip of his scotch, "Let's just enjoy what we have."

K sighed gently and rubbed her muzzle again; they were both right on that regard. Moving forward was truly all they could do and that was absolutely fine. Spend too long on the past after all and you're doomed to repeat it by accident. His suggestion about her sticking around after the core was settled in the shutmon paused for a few moments before scratching at her head.
"It's going to take a bit I think for it to get settled in, as it'll have a-lot of data to absorb and process. Might end up having to stay here during that... which will give us plenty of time to do things. As for when the core gets settled in properly there's a few things I need to take care of without a doubt; before sticking around here."
She'd blink a little bit and turn when the mikemon's ear flicked. Her hand retracting from his when she saw the waitress approaching; even he was quick to do the same which only put a little grin on her face. No real need to make things awkward for the waitress after all.
"All right."
Her brows raised just a little bit seeing the plates being put in front of them; she'd give a small thanks to the waitress before gingerly testing the steak.
"Yes. I suppose lets."
The shutmon tested a little bit of the wine and set into her steak after a few moments, unsure what to really talk about at this point. It was obvious she was musing over a couple things; but the real question was what?

Well, K was optimistic, at the very least. Hearing her plans to settle in while the new core was processing, the Mikemon gave a slight nod. "Mm... well, that's more a case of 'if we even can'. It's not something I've done before, but if it allows for you to move around comfortably, than I'd love to. If not, well, we'd have to save it for another day." The Mikemon wasn't exactly sure of the 'rehab' period, or how intense it would have to be, but he at least understood where K was coming from.
That thought was interrupted by the waitress, their entrees promptly served before each of them. At this point, well, 'romantic' talk just seemed a bit far away to turn to. What were they supposed to do, mull over more words for minutes on end as these beautiful, sizzling steaks grew cold? This time, amidst K's silence, the Mikemon gave a smirk.
"This place is so good, but..." the Mikemon picked up a fork, between two of his fingers, "All of the utensils are human size. Just a touch bigger than what I'd use for myself, and..." the cat blinked, looking over to the Shutmon in comparison. "... Perhaps a touch small on your end?" Honestly, that was just worth a laugh, as the cat made do and started cutting smoothly through the steak. One bite proved it 'perfect', a slight bitter seasoning contrasting well to the color of the steak. For a minute or two, he'd just enjoy the meal set out before him, before finally giving off a far more casual question!
"Mm!" After a swallow, the Mikemon smirked. "Guess I never asked, if you were to go out yourself, what do ya pick up to eat? We kinda just picked this place out of the blue..."

She had never considered the idea that the core wouldn't settle quickly; it was unnerving enough to where the shutmon had to physically pause and think it over. What if the core never settled? What if it fought with her constantly and drove her into higher tiers of pain? That among other things sprang to mind; the general thought of rehab alone was enough to make her consider what all she'd have to do to make things work.
"Life is about firsts, in the middle and the lasts. With this being a first that just means we have to hope it works. If it doesn't allow me to move around that's fine; we have time. Considering how old the both of us are, I don't really think we're in too much of a rush?"
She'd quirk an eyebrow and look over her steak after a few moments. Realizing that indeed the untinsals were too small for her. With a small frown she'd look at her claws, no doubtably sharper than the knife she was trying to use.
"Very much so. Thankfully my claws are more than enough to make up the difference."
The shutmon chuckled lightly and one of her claws cut through the steak like it was next to nothing. She'd pause before sticking the cut in her mouth and raise her brows as the mikemon spoke again. His question made her pause once more and she tapped her muzzle thoughtfully with a row of fingers that remain unused for the moment.
"... Well. I'm a fan of most types of meats, which shouldn't be a surprise. I usually just pick myself up jerky or something on a stick. I don't normally eat in sit down places as their well.. Expensive."
She'd gesture at the mikemon before continuing with her steak.
"What of you? I imagine you have a particular dish you enjoy."

Ah, true enough - though age wasn't normally something to talk about on a date like this, between Mikemon and K, between these two, it was a point of interest! He simply gave a chuckle, and added two more words onto that point: "True enough."
Past that, well, steak! Fortunately, K had her own solution to such unusable utensils, instead substituting her own makeshift utensils - thankfully claws, and not the blades waiting at her wrists - and she was able to enjoy the steak just fine. Considering the locale, Digimon eating with their hands was a pretty regular occurrence, the feline not even flinching or giving a single remark to what might have been a faux-pas in the human world.
It was a good thing, too - this steak was delicious! His own was a perfect medium rare, with just enough of a 'zest' to give it it's own kick. His mouth half-full with another bite, he listened as K explained her favorite... 'meat'. Quite a broad category, but at least he had done well with the restaurant at hand. As the question turned back around to him, well, he would have been quick to answer, but currently his mouth was full.
And thankfully, that gave him a moment to think of something other than 'truffle-roasted hen', as the Mikemon just now realized that he probably was able to get out to eat a lot more than her. Giving a nod, he reconfigured his answer into something that fit the setting better: "Poultry. If it's a bird, I'm usually for it... guess that's just the cat in me." The Mikemon gave a chuckle, the Doctor satisfied enough with his own answer.
Other than that, well, if K didn't have much else, this meal would go on in silence for another minute or two. Not that it was necessarily a bad thing - Mikemon just wasn't good at speaking while eating!

K had to admit whatever choice steak that the humans had for this establishment was right in line of what the beast digimon enjoyed. It was juicy enough not to be dry, but cooked well enough to where it wasn't dripping all over the place. She had to be very careful when using her claws to cut it though, as if she put too much effort into it, it could go right through the plate... And quite possibly the table itself. She didn't want to have to shoulder that sort of response for this place.
Her eyes flicked to her blades on her wrists and she'd shake her head a little bit. It would be too foolish to use those as they were long enough and sharp enough to make easy work of anything this restaurant could of had to offer.
She tilted her head just a little bit as mikemon responded to her query. He enjoyed poultry? She couldn't really blame him for it; she enjoyed poultry most certainly. As it was technically a type of meat, was her choice of answer really that broad and general to make it hard to focus on one thing?
Yes. Yes it was; she had never found a cut of meat. wether following the algorithms of beef or birds to not be tasty. She'd scratch her muzzle thoughtfully and continued to eat after a bit; there wans't much for her to say at this junction. Though once she was done eating she'd gingerly tap the plate; a thoughtful look spreading on her face.
"....There is something I'm wondering. We both chose strange locations to set up in, but the thought has crossed my mind before. Have you ever considered other places to practice at?"

Well, to be fair, a broken table or chair wouldn't have been a first around here. Perhaps a Guardromon thought something was more stable than it was, or a stronger Digimon just misjudged how durable a plate would be under the kitchenware. Still, the owners would probably appreciate the relative tact that K was holding...
... Even if they would just tack it onto their bill! Well, it seemed the two weren't exactly good at idle talk while they were eating - thus, the relative silence was made a lot less awkward or tense than the last few times - but soon enough, both would have finished their steaks, Mikemon sipping at the last bit of his scotch as he sat back up in his chair. "Oh, that hit the spot... hm?"
What was that? It took a moment for the Doctor to process the question, though he was listening well enough. "Other places to practice? Well, unfortunately, the options really only boil down to three - Whitewater, Terminus, and Primary Village. It has to be somewhere that can be easy enough to set up a supply line and with high enough relative demand - or, in the case of the latter, a place where the supply line is already set up to practice. Swanmon is very particular about who she lets work with her, and as for young'ns..."
Mikemon sighed. "I like 'em, but I'm not made of patience. Between the two left, Terminus would have more tamer patients, but I'd be swamped with low priority traffic. It took a bit to figure it out, but I settled here. The rent was better when I started - I own the place now - and I figured I'd get enough work by word of mouth."
Fair enough, right? "How about you? Ever thought of setting up shop closer to a main city? Those kind of cozy bed-and-breakfast things suit well with tamers..." Heck, she could have charged a lot more, to boot! Then again, that village was practically family, wasn't it?

The shutmon tilted her head a little bit and thoughtfully stroked her chin. What sort of cuts of meat could they have access to here to get such delicate tastes? She would likely have to know for later if she wanted to partake in this sort of thing more often but at a fraction of the cost. After all she knew a thing or two about cooking... but not to the same degree as those that had worked for her for so long.
Then came the mikemon's answer; it made sense at least most of it did to her. As she was well aware of two of thre three locations. She couldn't say she knew primary village all too well; though she did know about it.
"Makes sense all around, Supply is a huge factor for everything now days. It's a pity there aren't as many major routes to work outside of."
He also answered a few other questions she had been wondering about; wether or not he actually owned the location he worked at as well as the general demographic of those that came to his clinic. She had a feeling he was more specialized; considering his reaction to her problem was so tempered.
"It's a very strong way of getting things handled, Word of mouth I mean. Some tempered and true ways might be better for it. But nothing can beat people spreading your business for you."
Then came the question she was firmly dreading; the one that she set herself up for. With a soft but wistful sigh she'd shake her head slowly.
"I had thought of it, maybe about two or three hundred years ago during a very particularly active period. But once it died down I decided it was better to have the location where i was at."
She set her elbow on the table and proppeed her head with a hand looking somewhat pleased.
"I loved the location I was at, where it was. What it did for me and others. But I don't think I could of replicated it without that feeling; tis why it did so well because so many people thought of it as a second home. The care in the place went further than needed."
There was a slight pause and a gentle but somewhat sad sigh followed.
"As pleasant as it was there, I don't think I'll be repeating my venture."

"Eh, might get a bit less traffic than an advertisement, but word of mouth's the best way to go about it. That way," the Mikemon shrugged, "People actually know what they're getting into." Of course, the sentiment was probably different for something like running an inn, but it was clear that the Mikemon knew what he was talking about... and as he returned the question, it was clear that K wasn't quite comfortable or sure of her own answer.
But she wouldn't have asked if she didn't expect the return, right? His ear twitched at her answer, and it made sense - she thought about it, but the Renamon liked the sense of community. Being able to call everyone by their first name, knowing that the Gazimon didn't like being on the second floor, getting that special coffee blend for the Sheriff Starmon...
... And she had lost all of it. The sadness in her sigh was thick enough to cut with a knife - and after a moment, the Mikemon returned a smile. "You wouldn't have traded it for the world, right?"
As tense as it was, the Mikemon was almost glad when the waitress showed up, setting the check on the table - as well as something on the house. Placed before each of them was a slice of strawberry cake, with pink icing, and different sections of a Valentine's heart that was drawn over the entire cake. Curious, the Mikemon gave a blink, his eyes flicking over to the coupon book: "... 'Cute couples might get a surprise'... oh my." Mikemon chuckled, slipping the coupon and his bit card into the bill docket. He wondered if they made a scene before?
"Looks good, anyway."

K would dip her head in a nod and mull over the sheer idea of a business place operating with just word of mouth. Maybe inconsistent customers, but once they became customers they'd be loyal and would even recommend it to others. It'd help in the long healthy sense if enough people were brought into it. With a gentle sigh she'd run a finger along the table; mulling it over further.
"Makes sense in both span of things, A little advertisement might not hurt but at the same time, it might bring in less specialized cases as that seems to be the demographic you desire."
Then came the inevitable pain of thinking about the place she lived for so long, did so much and enjoyed so thoroughly. there was a sullen air about her for maybe a few moments before it got shoved to the side so roughly she'd let out a derisive snort.
"There is nothing in the world that could of made me do so. It was home plain and simple."
When the waitress showed up, K's gameface immediately came on and she gave them a small but somewhat pleasant smile before raising her brows at the cake. Legitimate surprise etching itself on her features. She'd blink owlishly and scratch her muzzle; looking a mix of baffled and unsure of what to do.
"Ah... that.. Uh, wasn't really expecting this. But it most certainly does..."
There was a momentary frown and she'd eye the cake; not like she distrusted it or anything it was more how was she going to eat it?

"Home, huh?"
At the thought, the Mikemon smiled. When was the last time he thought of that word, the last time he thought of the Dark Area in that way? Surely there was something that made him tolerate the place for so long, despite its rather dangerous nature.
Maybe he'd tell K about it at some point. But right now, cake! As the Shutmon looked down at her own slice, the cat grabbed a fork - may as well give it a taste, at the very least! "Usually not much for stuff like this, but a bite can't hurt." Or so he thought: as he took that one bite, the feline's expression widened, the Mikemon choking down a swallow. He seemed alright after a moment, the doctor taking a deep drink of water after, holding up a finger as if to say 'wait a moment'.
"That was," Mikemon coughed, "without a doubt, the sweetest thing I've ever tasted." So sweet, that it felt like he was biting sugar! Setting that fork down, pushing the hideously sweet pink pastry away, he just gave a nod as the waitress came to handle the check. Shortly thereafter, he'd be pocketing his wallet back into his glove, giving a nod to the Shutmon.
"Hoo, boy. Been fun... even if that cleared my palette straight out. Wow."

The shutmon dipped her head in a nod at what she imagined to be rhetorical question in regards to her home. It was such a mix of intense emotions that the shutmon just sighed and shook her head again. It was something that would take a very long time to get over. She knew that much.
She wasn't sure when she'd take the first steps towards it but first she'd have to concentrate on other things. She looked somewhat pensive and scratched at her ear, gazing somewhat passively at mikemon. She wasn't sure about this cake; she wasn't like hellishly into sweets but at the same time there was just something off about the way it looked to her.
She was about to put a claw to it to taste it; then the reaction mikemon had to the cake made her flinch visibly. There was a soft snicker and she'd gently trace a line around the plate.
"I think I'll pass on giving it a go, I'm not normally one for overly sweet things."
She watched the waitress come over, moving to pull her billfold out and blinked in surprise when the Mikemon was quick to pay the entire thing. She looked somewhat grumpy about the fact figuring that she could of easily managed the half... But would she really argue with it? No. No she would not.
"Indeed it has been. Much more relaxed than meeting a new person and having a strange.. interaction with them. Was the cake really that bad?"

Honestly, the fact that K might want to cover her half of the bill. It wasn't for the fact that he thought he should cover it, or that the Shutmon couldn't handle her own half - if K had brought it up, he certainly would have gone along with splitting the bill. Rather, Mikemon didn't think through it at all, as he was just used to one person picking up the tab at restaurants.
That aside, he couldn't help but chuckle at her last point: "Honestly I can't even imagine how this would have gone with a new 'mon at this point. After all, it's hard for 'me' to act as anyone other than 'me' - and you can say 'be natural' all you want, but I'm not all that good at first impressions." As for the cake? "Hoo yeah it was. Like if the batter was made with those chalky love-heart candy things, and more sugar was added on top of it." Actually, come to think of it, perhaps they might have done that? It would have explained a lot, if that were the case!
Eventually, though, the two would make their way out. With it being such a busy night, the tables had to keep moving somehow. Back in the streets of Whitewater, once they were on a bit of the sidewalk that wasn't completely dense with foot traffic, the Mikemon would give a smile.
"Heh. Well, one way or another, we're going to see each-other quite a bit in the next few weeks. Still, glad we could spend the day like this." Sheesh, now he was having trouble finding his words! Stumbling in thought for a second, he finally settled on something. "Hopefully, it won't all need to be serious business."

The shutmon tutted gently as she eyed the mikemon; had he done that out of habit or was he trying to cater to her in some fashion? Considering how they interacted thus far she doubted it was the latter. His reaction to her question was quite touching in an odd sense.
"I suppose you have a point. I don't think it would of gone like this if it was someone new. Even if it was someone else I knew I don't think it would of gone this smoothly or.. Even get this far. We'd probably of shared a laugh before going to hang out on the regular."
There were quite a few people she could think of that would have that reaction; and a few that the both of them would be very embarrassed about it. With the response to her query about the cake being added not a few moments later the shutmon found herself blanching just a little bit.
"That's.... faaaar too sweet. Who would even eat that?"
There was a small snort and once they were out into the streets of whitewater the Shutmon felt a little out of sorts again. Like this was really happening wasn't it? In kind of an odd manner at least. Mikemon was right too; they would be seeing quite a bit of one another. This whole thing with the cores and then.. whatever this was turning into.
What it had turned into.
What it had been.
What it still is.
She'd let out a soft cough and grinned a bit. Her hands gingerly swinging while they walked. Though after a little bit she looked to grow thoughtful.
"That we will. Hopefully everything goes smoothly; after all that's happened it'd be nice."
There was a brief pause and she'd stop to look around. A slow edge of a frown creeping onto her face before she'd gingerly lean down to Mikemon fully intending on giving the digimon a hug. Firmly patting his back if he so allowed it.
"It won't be all serious I imagine. I doubt we'd be able to do so without thinking back on this or what we talked about."
