After spending time with some of the members of the 7/71st, Rythix took it upon himself to explore the area nearby to sort of get him acclimated to the prospect of traveling and seeing new areas. The noise and metallic clanging in the distance of Hardware Den didn't do much to ease the timid Digimon's worries going forward. He wondered if there was a bakery nearby and if he could buy ingredients for his own cooking. With that thought, he wandered around a bit more until the faint smell of freshly baked bread filled the air.
Upon following the smell to the outskirts of the Den, he found a small shop tucked away, but seemed to get good business if the number of Digimon there was any indication. He walked inside, the air feeling a lot cooler thanks to the conditioning units inside. Definitely a lot nicer compared to how arid it could be in the Den and the surrounding areas. The owner appeared to be a friendly looking Andromon, who had his hands full with today's rush hour "Welcome, welcome. Find yourself a seat and I'll try my best to get to you as soon as I am able..." he looked a bit overworked.
Rythix flew up to the counter "...Need....help?" he asked shyly.
Andromon looked at him and smiled a little bit "Oh that would be wonderful, please. It's been busy for some time now, I barely have time to breathe. To whom do I have to thank?"
"...Rythix..." he said as he set his bag down and dug out a few ingredients and utensils to help with the baking. They were carefully marked so they wouldn't be mixed up with anything Andromon had. Once he began, he worked efficiently and quickly, expertly kneading the dough to the proper shapes in a matter of seconds. One after another he put more orders in the oven, all the while sprinkling sugar powder on certain orders.
Andromon paused for a moment when he said his name "Hm...that certainly sounds familiar. I've been around a long time, and that sounds like an old troublemaker from that 7/71st. Of all the fighters of that old company, he was definitely the rowdiest..." he said, chuckling a bit.
Rythix flinched a bit and his visor fell over his eyes for a moment while he overfilled one of the pastries he was putting jam in. "...A-Ah!" he looked a little defeated at this mistake as he lifted the visor back up "..S-sorry..." he cleaned up before he went back to work. He looked around at the happy faces now that orders were being filled faster. It brought joy to him.
Andromon looked at Rythix for a moment and laughed "It's no trouble, really." he said as he helped clean the counter top.
For the next few hours Rythix helped Andromon complete orders and even did a few deliveries for him. When Rythix came back from the last delivery, Andromon was closing shop "Thanks a lot for the help. Here, for the trouble." he was about to give Rythix some bits for his work, but he turned them down
"...j-just looked...so b-busy. Wanted...to help..." he said, looking flustered as usual.
Andromon once again chuckled happily "I insist...besides...it's good to see you've grown up a bit, you know. A far cry from that thug who called himself a soldier."
Rythix froze a bit "...th...thug?" he shakily accepted the bag. "...no...not me. M-must be...s-s-someone else." he shook his head. He couldn't have been so bad someone would have considered him a thug. There had to be a mistake there.
"Just a moment." Andromon's eyes glowed for a bit as he scanned Rythix "Well that certainly explains a lot. Your data looks like it was pieced together after it was completely mangled...what happened to you? Hm...not that you would remember. Look, the Rythix you were before...hm, follow me." he locked up the bakery and lead Rythix across the Den.
So many thoughts swam through Rythix's head. Just who was he? How did his data get that damaged? Why did it get damaged? Bits and pieces flashed through his mind as he shook his head. It couldn't have been him. Impossible. What Andromon was saying was just messing with his head.
"You were a covert operative for them if I remember correctly. Obtained information via stealth and...less subtle methods. I heard your prowess in battle was incredible, though your fierce disposition put you at odds with some of the others."
Rythix buzzed angrily "N-No! Not me! Not...me!" he pouted not unlike a child. Tears even started to well up in his eyes. "I...d-don't like to hurt people. I b-barely...fight."
Andromon sighed sadly "I'm sorry. That was tactless of me." he knelt down next to him and adjusted Rythix's visor for him when it fell over his eyes. "If anything...I'm happy you disapprove of the old you so much. But who that was is still a part of you. You'll probably meet others who aren't as understanding as I am about the whole situation. Saying you don't remember it...doesn't make it all better for most. But your actions, like your generosity in helping me today without expecting anything in return, will. You're a changed Digimon, and I think you've changed for the better. If you get involved in dangerous things again, I believe you'll leave a more positive impression on others from here on. From the looks of you, you can't even reach Champion, hm? Well keep following me. I have something stashed away from my old wandering days."
Rythix still seemed rather upset. He hadn't lost his temper like that before. When he did, flashes of a Digimon strong-arming someone for information flashed in his mind. The images were faint, like a horrible static interference occurred when he tried to focus on the memory more. Echoes of gleeful laughter in the middle of battle also rang through his mind. "...Nnh..." he kept following Andromon.
Andromon led him through an old, dusty warehouse full of various containment units and traced a hand along one "It's not much and can't compare entirely to a champion level, but I have something for you I think suits who you are now." he said, rapidly inputting a code into the unit as the doors slid open. He stepped inside for a moment and would soon come out with what was clearly a Digimental. The coloration was green and yellow "I would like you to have this. It's a Digimental of Generosity...I can think of no better gift for you." he held it out to Rythix.
He took it nervously. It felt warm in his hands and before long, the Digimental accepted Rythix and dispersed into data, merging with his own. "B-but...if I was like that I don't...d-deserve..." he started to choke up and sob again. For so long he wanted to know more about who he was, but after what he heard today and the memories that surfaced, fragmented as they were, he wasn't sure he wanted to know any more.
Andromon gently pat his head "I can see a lot of hardship for you in the future. But you're not alone. I'm sure you have allies out there who want to see you grow. I can already see that you are kinder now...more mature than you were. And a little kindness can make a world of difference." he said with a smile.
Those words resonated within Rythix. He managed a tiny smile "...th-thank...you. I want to...be better..." he said. The revelations still bothered him. He would have to talk with some of the other members of the 7/71st if they knew more about him. He had so many questions...he hoped he hadn't ruined anyone's life with how he was before.
Later, Andromon had given Rythix spare supplies from his kitchen "Here you go, friend. Be sure to try out those gear cookie cutters. The young Digimon around here really like those." he said.
"Y-you are...sure...I can have these...?" Rythix asked, making room for the new utensils. He hoped the others didn't worry about him with how long he was gone. He would have to check in with some of them later. Or perhaps, if they had left, he could go out into the world again and meet others. He had ways to contact the 7/71st, so he wasn't worried that he had lost them forever.
"Of course! Those are spares, anyway. Be sure to come on by once in a while. The customers seemed to really like your food."
Rythix smiled a little bit "...I will..." he said before he lifted his bag. With new supplies in tow, he flew away towards the central area of the Den. Whatever comes in the future, Rythix had something new to face the challenges with. So much was still strange to him, and just as much were likely things he didn't want to remember. Still, his good deeds of the day warmed him to his core. He would face the days ahead, as he was a little stronger in body and mind.
