Hearth's Warming Eve (Cion)

Raising a barely visible eyebrow, Cion openly showed her bewilderment she experienced due to Alan's melancholic comment. Why would anyone not think of him and Levi as genuine partners, likely for a whole lifetime? They had a tighter bond than most humans and digimons she had encountered throughout uncountable centuries of existence. Especially when considering how recent there relationship must be it was a miracle that it had blossomed so fantastically. They acted like coltish siblings despite originating from entirely different places and circumstances. No to mention their difference in power and potential. Hence seeing them in blissful harmony was... balm to her worried soul.
Nodding, she quietly watched the duo continuing their delightful back and forth, finally accepting the that Veemon was indeed quite adorable. Lazy and a bit discourteous, but it was clear that the blue dragon was still a child, not a reincarnated knight of yore. Gladly she permitted him to savor his childhood for a possible eternity of purpose and duty awaited him. Would he be a valiant sentinel of the innocent, or perhaps protect nature? In any case, the restrained Arniomon had no doubts that the both of them were made from the right iron to accomplish true greatness. They merely needed training, experience and a few conduct lessons to be proper role models.
However, that was of no importance on this fine, peaceful evening in their pleasant togetherness. Leaning into her seat with paws folded on her laps, the silver fennec's attention returned to her blond friend. Though smiling, it appeared he had misunderstood her statement. Nonetheless, his idea was splendid. "I do. And keeping in touch is an excellent suggestion. I take it you utilize TamerNet through your digivice?" She almost asked rhetorically, turning on her pristine, state-of-the-art smartphone and showing him her information. With glee she anticipated his invitation.
Meanwhile, as the scent of their finished meals ceased and the cozy flickering of the carmine's fire continued to dimly illuminate the inn, the atmosphere of Snowflake Village seemed to shift. At first unnoticeable in the omnipresent darkness of the starry night, the snowfall became perceptibly heavy. Winds carried every tiny piece of frozen water with great velocity, causing them to violently impact with the sturdy exteriors of this town's buildings. Naturally, they adamantly resisted the force imposed on them, but venturing outside turned increasingly 'uncomfortable' for unprepared and unaccustomed folk in the vicinity.

"Ah, actually..." in response, the blonde placed his hand into his left pocket, which held a much larger object than the digivice. The challenge was less to find what he was looking for as it was to grab hold of it and pull it out. "Got it!" he said as he finally accomplished the task, revealing a foldable messaging device that he trusted his friend beside him had seen before, "I use this bulky D-Terminal here. Haha! I find the design questionable."
Alan opened up the device and began tapping away. "I'll show you- my, my username is Wafcake63. That's all lowercase after the first letter, W-a-f-c-a-k-e-six-three. I know it's, it's weird, but my dad came up with it on the spot when I was a little kid, and I liked it, so it stuck. He's-" Alan tapped Levi to give him another chance to get up. The Veemon had been awake and listening the whole time, so he gladly complied to answer the question.
"Oh, I'm GetInTheBegLebby," he said.
"That one, that's a bit harder to explain, but you'll probably see him in any conversations we have. I doubt we'll ever be talking about something he wouldn't be privy to, so-"
"Aw, give yourself some credit~" teased Levi, placing a hand lazily on Alan's chest from his current sitting position, just before Alan gently moved his hand away.
"What are you even... oh, pfffft, yeah, you jokester. No, wait, what'd you call him earlier, Cion? 'Funster,' that was it."
Alan took a look out the window at the intensifying conditions outside. "Ah, well," he said, "it's not like we were planning on going back out there tonight."

Oh - Alan was actually not utilizing TamerNet through his digivice, but a clunky D-Terminal he pulled out of his pockets. Strange that she had not previously noted a bulge somewhere on his clothes. In any case, the method with which they kept in contact hardly mattered to the silver fennec. As long as it was fast and efficient, it sufficed. Picking up her smartphone, she carefully paid attention to the fine lad's instructions to add him to her extensive yet personal list of acquaintances. Only the best and most cherished were on it for her to keep up with.
"My username is simply Cion. C-i-o-n." She calmly stated, slightly amused by the boy's silly nickname. Suddenly, though merely for a second, she considered if parenthood was truly as wonderful as she imagined. Was Rosewood perhaps doing a big mistake by letting adults direct children? Nah... it appeared that the blond was honestly fond of the moniker, hence she quickly dismissed those rash thoughts. Still, she was kind of glad that her upbringing in this existence had mostly been independent. However, that did not mean she did not often feel alone in an empty world. She did...
Saving Levi's bizarre information as well, the restrained Arniomon quietly listened to their short yet sweet banter. It seemed they referenced something she did not comprehend, although there was a chance that this status quo might change one day. Tonight though she had no interested in being overbearingly nosy. Looking at them with brief confusion, the tiny fox did nothing but shrug with a smirk, leaving the naughty lads to their blameworthy notions and words - oh well. This was of course an ironic thought.
Surprised by the young man's shift of the topic, Cion too focused her gaze on the windows outside. The weather had greatly worsened over the half hour they had spent together. An ever increasingly severe blizzard turned the whole area snowbound. Not seeking to imagine how painfully cold it had to be beyond this inn's cozy walls, she tilted her head to face the benevolent digidestined. Comprehending his statement, she leaned back into her comfortable seat and kept her aureate eyes on him. "I take it you rent a room for the night?"

"C-i-o-n," repeated Alan, typing the name into the D-Terminal. For a moment, the young man felt tempted to use an "X," rather than a "C," in reference to a game he had played before. This was merely a passing, trifling thought, however, as obviously, it would make more sense to use the actual name given to him. He needn't explain to himself why he does not act on it, though. Common sense doesn't take kindly to being explained. He placed the terminal in his backpack, rather than his pocket, as it did cause him some discomfort, and didn't make a very good pillow for Levi, though his partner didn't seem to mind.
"When we walked in here," Alan responded, "we were trying to save up to see if we could rent a room. Given the cost of food, however, I'm willing to bet we have plenty now. Judging by the occupancy of the bar here, I assume they have plenty of rooms to rent. It seems Levi here can hardly keep his head up, so... I think it would be best if we turned in. Thank you so much for accompanying us. Do you, by any chance, wish to meet up again in the morning? Assuming the storm has ceased, and assuming you've nothing you'd rather do, would you be willing to show us around town?"

Thinking about it, Alan's statement made sense. Blizzard or not, it was rather late for the pair of greenhorn adventurers to continue their journey. Decent voyagers had to take care of their needs despite curiosity and fervor pushing them towards uncharted territories. Plenty of sleep and nutritious food, as well as great friends, were the key to success no matter the goal pursued. Besides, seeing Levi rest on the young man's lap was sufficient evidence to realize how exhausted they must be. She did not know the extent of their trip, but to them it was clearly strenuous.
Cion nodded quietly, agreeing with the sentiment that there were likely lots of rooms left for visitors. After all, Snowpeak Village was a small yet lovely spot in the middle of nowhere. Tourism was certainly no its quintessential income source. Given the environment, the rentable accommodations were probably affordable, spacious and cozy. Repose was most definitely what the charming duo would attain here.
However... something inside the silver fennec caused her to frown faintly. Quickly, she grasped that it was the notion of being alone again. Sure, Alan and Levi were interested in encountering her tomorrow, especially for a walkabout, but her night would be still be lonesome. Why had their evening of serenity and joy had to end so fast and abruptly? Shyly, her aureate eyes met the blue ones of the fine lad. Twitching her fingers, it required grand courage to speak up her mind, recent setbacks enshrouding her confidence.
"I mean... of course. I gladly show you around. But... must we depart already? I would like more of your company. If not here, maybe during a... sleepover?" She asked under her breath, rosy cheeks and bent ears tarnishing the previous stance of grace and beaming confidence.

The words "I would like more of your company. If not here..." would have raised an eyebrow if they were not immediately followed by the word "sleepover." As sweet and affectionate as the young man was, he would be lying if he were to claim that he wasn't wary of a suggestion from a fine lady to stay in a hotel room with him for the night. But she had finished the sentence with the word "sleepover." That was when he saw her face. The small, silver fox was staring at him shyly, blushing, with drooped ears. Her hard, yet smooth shell of grace, had cracked, or at least melted somewhat. As he slowly pieced together what was going on here, his own cheeks turned red in kind. This was not the eager offering of a potential lover. No. No matter how many years she had lived, how many experiences she had had, or how many lessons she had learned, the Cion Alan was seeing he recognized as a scared child, sleepless in her own bed, and hoping to find comfort with something akin to a parental figure close by - anyone who would look after her, even if just for a night. Whether Cion herself would agree with this assessment, that was how the blonde interpreted the gesture. He assumed it was a safe bet; he and Levi had both seen this side of each other, and each took it upon themselves to be the metaphorical parent when the other would be the child. Oftentimes the tradeoff was subtle, and oftentimes both roles were assumed at once. This bond of trust and affection for one another they had established with themselves. Alan was not quite used to being relied upon by others in this matter.
Hence, he blushed brightly. Hence, he was flustered and flattered and flabbergasted. Hence, he tripped over his words, and took comfort in knowing the fennec was about as unsure as he. Levi, proud draconic guardian in this moment, smiled with silence and patiently awaited his warm-blooded hatchling's response.
"Y...y...you want to... sh-share a room with... with us...?" stuttered the boy. "Well... if you... if you really value our company that much," he was now staring down at his pressed-together hands and gently kicking his feet. "..O-of course! We'd love to have you over! We-"
"We would!" assured the beaming Veemon before Alan could ask for confirmation. "Wouldn't want ya to feel left out! We'll even let ya share a bed with us, if ya like!"

It appeared that Alan had understood the lonely, ancient entity from the very first moment he had layed his blue eyes upon her. It was a fortune that Levi had nudged him towards opening up to her - apparently for the both of them. To the fine lad, it was the revelation that there were indeed polite, gracious digimons in this often cruel realm. To Cion, it was the knowledge that there were radiant soul that offered her a shoulder to lean on, be they familiar friends of charming strangers. Though it was the hearth that filled the inn with comfortable warmth, her heart was brimmed with more. Initially disheartened and nervous due to the young man's blush, the shy answers she eventually received caused an immediate mood swing in her. Ears peaked, aureate eyes widened and a frown became a toothy, shiny grin as she heard the duo accepting her proposal to share a room for the stormy winter night. Squealing with glee, the silver fennec nodded heavily and clapped enthuisiastically if quietly. "Excellent!" She exclaimed blissfully. The motion of sharing a bed made her turn pink again, but this time it was because of a sense of pleasure. Despite being a fair lady of grace that gladly adhered to concepts such as civility, privacy and modesty... she was also a mammalian digimon that relished the simple things of life, like chummy company and snuggling with those she cared for. Although, as she lacked a special someone, that was mostly limited to the laps of her human companions. Even then, that was a rare occasion. In the end, no matter their decision, a sleepover was she hadwanted and gainted. So it was that they remained by each other's side in pleasant togetherness...The attic they had rented together was an ideal place to savor the beauty of the lasting darkness outside. Only the faint yet beautiful light of the enshrouded moon and stars pierced through the partially covered, glassen window to bestow some bluish illumination to their large room. Decorated with fleecy rugs, wooden furnishing and northern pieces of scenery, the area was cozily mild - perfect to cover oneself in soft blankets. The blizzard had not yielded, snow and ice lashed at the building's exterior while the occassional, gentle swoosh of the strong winds could be noticed. Aside from the white noise merely the dripping of water was audible in their cushy sanctuary. A second door that led to a small bathroom was barely open, the orange glow of old bulbs lightening its gap. Unaware of what the two boys did to pass the time or prepare for sleep, the female fox savored the purity and modest heat of her ephemeral shower. Obviously, she did not want to leave Alan and Levi by themselves for too long. Nonetheless, a dulcet symphony of humming escaped her lips, clear and enchanting in sound. It was hushed, but certainly hearable.

The human boy and the dragon had been washed and prepared for bed for a few minutes. Alan sat on the bed, rosy-cheeked as he took in the atmosphere, listening to Cion hum. He was fond of the fox, even more so when he realized just how much she desired affection. Levi was leaning into Alan, barely able to keep awake, needing to be shaken awake occasionally, though the Veemon did not seem very happy about it. Each time Alan tried to get him to wait for Cion to join them, he would groan just a little louder in crankiness, and his partner would run his hand over his head again.
"I know you're tired, Levi. I'm tired, too. But at least, I want to wait for Cion to join us. You're not making it easy, you cozy little rascal."
Levi delighted in being called this, wearing a lazy, open-mouthed smile as he further relaxed himself into the tamer.
"Oookay, Levi, I'm gonna have to tuck you in and then take a walk around the room so I don't pass out," said Alan as he picked up the Veemon in his harms, placed him right in the middle of the bed, and pulled the covers over him. From the looks of it, he was already out like a light. Alan got up and began to pace around the room, walking away from the bed, turning around, and walking back. When he turned back, the tiny dragon's big, ruby eyes were wide open, and staring him directly in the face with an innocent, curious expression. He was silent.
I hope Cion comes out soon. This dragon could knock me cuddly and unconscious with a thought.

Eventually, true silence returned to the cozy, dark attic as the lights of bathroom faded. With hushed thuds, a familiar, vulpine silhouette emerged out of the darkness. Aureate, gleaming eyes came closer with every step as the well-tended shape of Cion became visible in the starry nights bluish glow. Smiling at the standing boy, she nodded and slowly approached the large bed, the pleasant scent of freshness following her. It was bizarre yet wonderful that they had to share a big sleeping accommodation. Though a lady of belle and respect, she savored the beauty of physical contact such as cuddling.
However, only Levi had implicitly voiced similar preferences, hence she remained composed and cautious in contrast to her outward grace and cheer. Giggling quietly upon seeing the adorable, wrapped up Veemon, she leapt onto the mattress's edge and sat down, observing what the lovely duo would do next. No matter what, their presence and affection alone was balm and joy for her pained heart, soul and core. This was why she gladly adapted to whatever proclivities they had.
Hopefully neither the blue dragon nor the promising digidestined were hesitant to voice them. After what they had done for her this evening, she was proud in assuring their bliss tonight. Ultimately, that was what trusted friends and companions did for each other, was it not?

The young man was distracted from his own tiredness when Cion finally emerged from the shower. She had regained the grace and confidence with which she had previously carried herself. It was unclear how noticeable it may have been in the bluish moonlight, but Alan's skin burned a light shade of red once more, the realization gradually dawning on him that he had been bewitched by the silver fennec. Though it embarrassed him to think he had let this happen, a deliberation with himself came to the conclusion that he should stay and stare just a bit longer, for surely Cion knew by now Alan held no uncouth intentions. Thoughts, perhaps, but intentions, not at all. Should Alan allow Cion to take notice of this, he decided, in all likelihood it would be understood as flattery. The boy turned his head to one side, sucking in the right side of his lip facing Cion to show her an awkward, flustered expression, while the left side of his face concealed a smirk - a hint of newfound confidence he wasn't ready for others to see.
Though Alan had considered himself finished with his little affectionate act, his eyes consistently returned to the respectable lady as he approached the bed himself.
Okay Alan, you're starting to worry yourself here.
It was the tucked-in Veemon, of course, who took notice of Alan's increasing doubt of his own intentions. Levi knew his partner's excitable heart fluttered only with innocence, no matter what he thought of himself.
"Well, Cion…" said Alan, not sure what he wanted to say, "you can pick where you want to-"
With that, Levi threw his end of the covers into the air, taking the already-distracted Alan by surprise. The next thing the blonde know, he was tucked neatly under the covers with Levi hugging him tightly from behind. The dragon motioned towards the still-uncovered spot right next to a stunned silent, but still happy, Alan, cheering, "you wanna feel how comfy this bed is?"

Naturally, Cion had made clear notice of the way Alan regarded her as deep, covert thoughts claimed his attention. However, she was not sure why it was that he gazed at her in such a shy yet incessant way. He did not laugh and it was too dark to make out fine details, so it was unlikely that she had a speck of dirt somewhere on her silver fur or white pelt or tail. Was it perhaps her eyes that had a fascinating, aureate sheen to them? Or maybe it was her delicate frame that awed the boy with its amenity?
The possibilities were endless, but regardless of his opinions and impetus, the small fennec granted him nothing less than her signature, winning smile. Hopefully, if the lad had something on his mind, he'd voice it eventually. Though not pushy, she was not a big fan of secrets as they made life unnecessarily complicated and in a sense hostile. Alas, despite her future ambitions, it was not her desire to direct the wills of others towards her destination. Whatever those around her offered had to be voluntary lest they felt pressured into acquiescence,
Before the restrained Arniomon was able to respond to the young human's suggestion, he and Levi were suddenly tucked neatly under their covers. It was with glee and a quiet giggle that she watched the adorable Veemon snuggle against his partner's back - fond memories of a past long ago resurging in her mind. Yet, given tonight's serenity, she refused to focus on them, as this act would always and merely lead to dolorous nostalgia. Instead, her simper became a toothy grin upon listening to the blue dragon's rhetorical question.
"Of course!" She explained joyfully as she deftly leapt to her target location that was adjacent to her blond youth's front. With her mammalian instincts and desires temporarily vanquishing her will to spread courtesy and cultivated manners, the otherwise dignified lady partially curled up into a lovable ball of fluff and snugness. Sighing with pleasure, she kept but an inch of distance to Alan, leaving him open to adjust their arrangement to his preferences.

Alan wasn't quite comfortable yet. He was sleeping on one of his arms, so it would have been uncomfortable to not move them out in front of him. He had a lovable ball of fluff one inch from him, and Levi's encouraging nuzzle to the side of his face finally let him give in. He was a mammal, too, and wanted physical contact just as much, perhaps more, than anyone else did. So he scooched himself a bit closer and embraced Cion, placing his head next to hers, and relaxed. Levi did his best to climb over Alan, settling himself into the center of Cion's half-curled up shape, settling down in between them both. Dropping every thing else that was on his mind, he began to drift off to sleep, no, actually, he awkwardly sat himself up, removed his glasses, folded them up, reached as far as he could to place them on the nightstand, and then returned to his original position. He had made that mistake a bit too many times, and really didn't want to wake up with messed-up glasses again. Now, truly, there was nothing else on his mind but sleep.

For a few moments, Cion did not expect anything but the calm, gentle drifting into another of millions of sleeps. Everything tonight was fine as it was, having encountered two lovely people she gladly considered treasured friends. They even went so far as to have a sleepover within the first couple of hours of their amity, which naturally was quite a rarity. Yet it granted her nothing less than a smile as dark and dolorous thoughts were temporarily pushed aside. She did not know what awaited her after tomorrow, but perhaps today had sufficed to reinvigorate her spirits.
The silver fennec flinched ever so slightly upon feeling the soft embrace of Alan. The boy had finally vanquished his uncertainty and did what he desired. The outcome quashed all trepidation, leaving the human and the small, anthropomorphic fox in blissful, cuddly togetherness. Though surprised, Levi's sudden yet careful emergence was by no means unwelcome, for he too was a mellow individual despite his scaly appearance.
Murring pleasantly, she quietly savored the presence of the comely, blond lad and the chummy blue dragon. Honestly speaking, Cion would have never expected to find herself in such a situation, but she was more than glad she did. Sighing with glee, her often anguished, troubled mind let go off the pangs of reality induced by her very core and focused on nothing but the warm touches of her new companions. She remained in this mental state of inner and outer concord - until she too eventually fell asleep with a toothy simper.
