Where have we seen this Opening Before? [Toki]

Archon awoke to the feeling of something wet and cool all around him. His throat was raw and salty, so he coughed as he rose, coughing up sand and seawater. He opened his red eyes, everything was blurry, but... bright too. What was this?
"Urghh..." the BlackVeemon murmured, struggling to sit up. He could feel that he was in shallow water, waves rushing in, then receding. It was as though he was on a beach somewhere... but the sand was white, not the ashen grey he was used to on the shore of the Blood Sea. And the water was clear, not red.
Too disoriented to stand, there the dragon sat. His hide was a charcoal-black all over, other than white on his muzzle and underside. His limbs were also rather skinny for a Veemon as well, and the 'V' on his forehead was a shade of blue. To anyone nearby he'd surely look like an odd sight.
Archon struggled to remember what he had last done. How the heck had he ended up here? He remembered... being scared at first. Then falling into the sea. Did... someone do this to him? Well if they did he'd get them back for it. Just... argh. Why didn't he remember? And also why was he still alive? He was pretty sure that being dropped in the middle of the sea usually resulted in drowning, so... argh, his head hurt so much from all this!
His belly rumbled, Archon put a hand to the smooth white hide there. Well, this was just the troika of suck wasn't it? Lost, amnesiac and hungry. He'd need a few moments to re-orient himself.

The sound of the oceans waves brought a certain kind of peace and clarity to Toki's mind. Despite its dangers, the Digital World had a beauty that was unparalleled to him. A beauty he would love to share with others. Every day it seems like more of a shame that this whole other world had to be kept a secret from the masses, but he understood why that was the case. Not everyone would understand. One thing he was certain of, is that if it became common knowledge, he would do everything he can to advocate for both worlds.
His inner thoughts were interrupted when he saw a figure sat down in the sand. He approached slowly. They appeared to be uncomfortable or in pain. And...it was a Veemon? No, the coloration was completely different. Still, he would continue to approach "Hey there...are you alright?" he asked as he kept a decent distance, not wanting to scare them by getting too close. "Don't worry, I'm a friend. Are you hungry? I've got plenty of food to spare." he carefully set his bag down on the ground and dug around before he pulled out a packaged pastry. A red bean paste bun wrapped in plastic. He unwrapped it and extended a hand out to them, smiling.
He was interested in what this Digimon was. He looked out towards the ocean, then at them "Take your time to get your bearings, it seems like you've been through a lot." he said, sitting across from them. "My name's Toki Akiyama." he said as he bowed his head. "I was just passing by and I saw you out here. I wanted to be sure you were okay..."

Archon heard someone approaching. He looked up, his vision gradually focusing. What digimon was this? Someone tall... did the have fur? No, didn't seem like they did, other than the top of their head.
They asked if he was alright. Archon appreciated that concern. He was in need of help, so he'd respond well to that. "Yeah... gotta have a moment though" he responded, indicating that he was conscious and awake. Then he heard further words. The person said that they were a friend, and asked if he was hungry. On the last thing, Archon certainly was, but the former thing, Archon was more skeptical about that. He rubbed his eyes a little in an attempt to see the person that was in front of him.
And there he saw them. Pale skin, fur only on the top of his head, nearly double the size of an average Rookie digimon, wore clothes on his torso and waist, this... this was a human!
"S-stay back!" Archon yelped, jumping to his feet. He'd jump back a bit, but realized in reality he had little else to go other than back into the sea, and, well, he didn't really want to go that way. Instead, he focused on what was being said here.
Archon saw the human not only offer food but present it. The BlackVeemon hesitated in his actions from here on. Yeah, he was hungry. And yeah, that red bean paste bun sure looked good. "Uh... scratch that... are... are you really offerin' that to me?" he asked, a little confused at this gesture. Where he had come from, every single morsel of food came at a cost. And he wasn't about to accept this without knowing what was involved. While Archon totally wanted to eat, well, he didn't want anything bad to happen in him doing so.
As the seconds pressed onward, the human even sat down patiently and introduced himself. Archon continued to stare. From where he had been raised, he had been told that humans were selfish greedy monsters that wanted to take over the digital world. And, yet, here was his first glimpse of a human, just... being generous, offering him food, being caring. Archon blinked with disbelief. How then... how could that be true? If the humans really did want to take over and ruin everything, why was this one being so generous and nice?
Maybe... Archon could figure this out by being nice back? "Well... thanks, human" he answered, cautiously accepting the bun. The human said his name was Toki Akiyama, and that he saw him and wondered if he was okay. Archon blinked a little, honestly, that was the most anyone had ever done for him.
"...My name's Archon" he replied, quietly. Why though? Why was he introducing himself to this individual? Someone he had been told wanted to take over this world, kill every digimon that refused to be subservient to them? Well... probably because he was by now thinking that was a huge lie.
"What's your game, Toki?" Archon eventually asked, his red eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Why are you bein' so nice to me? I don't know you, you don't know me, so, what's goin' on here?"
He asked this more out of curiosity than anger. That Toki had been so nice to him from the start rendered his aggression down to the minimum, but, still, this was the first time Archon had even seen a human at first glance. This made no sense to him that Toki was being so nice.

Toki carefully stepped back out of respect when Archon panicked a little bit at his presence. His expression was genuinely sad for the Digimon. What have they been through to be so frightened on a first glance? Still, he kept his hand outstretched with the food. He wasn't going to abandon them.
He sighed happily when they relaxed a bit and gently placed the pastry in their hand, going so far as to curl Archon's fingers around it and carefully push it towards him "Yep, offering it to you!" he said with a bright smile before sitting back a little bit.
He watched Archon's reactions and noticed he seemed so horribly confused and conflicted about a lot of what was going on. It seemed like he couldn't believe what was happening considering initial fear of Toki.
Toki nodded his head when Archon thanked him "Of course! It's very nice to meet you, Archon." he said and bowed his head. He tilted his head a bit when he asked what his game was "Hm? Ah, you want to know why I helped you out? Plain and simple, you looked alone, lost, and hungry, so I wanted to see if everything was okay."
Clearly though, everything was not okay with Archon. "And now...I'm going to sit here and listen to your story, should you decide to tell me." he reached into his backpack and got a red bean paste bun for himself. He unwrapped it and began eating. "If there's anything I can do to ease your worries, let me know. The day is still young after all."
This...was something that Toki was waiting for. Maybe there was an ulterior motive for helping Archon...and that's to fulfill his desire to bring peace of mind to others however he can. If he could do anything to help Archon, he would consider his day well spent.

While still confused by this generosity, Archon accepted it. He shifted his position somewhat so he was out of the sea, effectively standing on the beach about 10ft up from the waterline. But, since Toki had been so nice to him, didn't raise his guard here at all.
Archon considered Toki's answers to his questions. "Well... guess you worked me out pretty quickly then" he remarked, sitting back down now that his initial shock in meeting a human had subsided. Then Toki sat down and said he wanted to hear Archon's story. The BlackVeemon had to have a chuckle at that.
"Well, wish I had a story to tell ya, because as far as I know, this is all there is" he confessed. However, the bun was nice to eat, so he supposed he'd do his best in return to tell what he knew, so, he thought for a moment to gather his words, then spoke as Toki ate as well.
"So, there I was, typical digimon of the Dark Area" Archon began, following a second bite of his bun. "Doing what most Dark Area digimon do I guess... just tryin' to get by. My job? I delivered messages in Fragment Village. That's the place where us "bad guy" digimon end up other than the Village of Beginnings" he air-quoted as he said the words.
"Then, one day, I got this one message, that there's some kinda infection happenin' in the dark area..." Archon's expression changed with this, looking a little downcast as he continued. "Namely... somethin' called the D-Reaper affecting a lot of what's happenin' there, so... I reported, and, turns out the client I was messengin' for already got the message first. Freakin' decimated... so... guess they tried to dispose of me out at sea maybe for failin' them? Hell, I dunno what they did, just, guess that would explain why I'm out here".
Archon looked back up at Toki. He wondered how the human would respond to this. So far from what he knew of the humans, they wouldn't care. But, since Toki had been so nice to him so far, he hoped maybe his reaction would be somewhat sympathetic.

Toki ate slowly as he listened to Archon's story, or at least what there was of it. The Dark Area...he had never been there himself but he adamantly refused to believe that absolutely everyone from there was a so called 'bad guy' Digimon. Circumstances of one's creation are completely out of the control of the person, so it was unfair to assume who they were because of it. "I heard that living out in the Dark Area is extremely difficult...it's not something to be ignored if you ask me, and it's certainly not a place to be condemned. You and the other Dark Area Digimon deserve a chance to grow and learn alongside everyone else."
The D-Reaper was mentioned and he froze...he had heard about it before. He didn't know much about it, but he knew it was the stuff of nightmares for the Digital World inhabitants. He looked mournful for a moment. How many have suffered there? Are people helping? If not, then why aren't they? It's dangerous, he understood that. But making changes comes with dangerous situations. "I've heard of the D-Reaper, and I'm sorry you and the others have to go through something so terrible...but to hurt you and cast you aside because of an unfortunate circumstance...I'm so sorry, Archon. You don't deserve that pain."
Toki sighed heavily before he smiled "If there's anything I can do to help you, and if it's within my power, I wish to help you. You don't have to be alone out here. I know this great place over in the Eastern Timberlands where you can get adjusted to things. It's called Rosewood. You'd have to do some work there at some point yeah, like help the construction or even do what you've been doing and relaying messages...but I'm sure they'd accept you! I'll talk to them if they seem unsure."
The whole time, Toki kept himself composed and calm, but it was clear he cared for Archon despite only having just met them "If I may ask...is fear of humans common in the Dark Area...? I was worried by your reaction earlier, so I just want to have that clear."

Archon... was somewhat surprised to hear those words. He had been expecting the human to get awkward and uncomfortable after he mentioned he was from the Dark Area, but hearing that from him... it felt nice. Yeah, growing up there had been difficult, Archon had nearly died several times, and had spent more than one night not sure if he'd make it to the next day, but in the end, he had. To hear these words from a human... it made him feel warm inside.
His initial reflex would have ordinarily been to scoff at him with cynicism, suspecting an ulterior motive, but, Toki had so far only treated him with complete generosity for nothing in return. Archon didn't want to spoil this interaction with anything like that. In fact, nobody had ever been this nice to him. And yet... the first one to be this pleasant was a human, someone he had been raised to shun.
As Archon stared and realized all this, he felt a little bit of wetness at the edges of his eyes. Damn... shit... was... was he freaking crying? Archon pretended to sneeze, then used that as a pretext to wipe his eyes as he pulled himself together.
Afterward, as Archon mentioned the news about the D-Reaper, that pulled him back into his normal mindset. "Yeah, the D-Reaper, it's turned a whole lotta bad digimon that much worse, so I hear" Archon admitted, looking down at his feet as he finished the last of the bun. "Well... that's nice of you to say" he replied to Toki's afterthought.
Toki then mentioned there was a place in the Eastern Timberlands called Rosewood. Archon snorted a little with mirth at how fluffy and flowery that name sounded. But still, it was something to consider now he was on this strange continent.
"Hm. Rosewood eh? Well, if they're as accepting as you are, I guess I could go there then" Archon said. And who knows? Maybe some work would take his mind off his past in the dark area. Although, he was a little unsure of how they would accept him there, if at all. He meant... he could technically behave himself, but, if provoked, his main reaction was to lash out pretty hard. Would they accept that there? Or execute him like he had been told they'd do back in the Dark Area?
Toki then asked about that. Archon looked up, deciding to be honest. "Yeah... in the Dark Area, they say you humans wanna kill or enslave us all and take over our world" Archon stated bluntly. "So... Toki, thanks for provin' me wrong, that bun was great by the way". He was feeling better already.

"A lot of bad digimon worse, huh..?" he sighed at those words "The world's a harsh enough place without something like that, that much is certain." he said. There was much about this that didn't sit right with Toki, but there wasn't much he could do about it now. All he could do was help Archon find a place here. A place where he doesn't need to worry and where he could grow in a healthy environment.
He smiled brightly when Archon said he'd consider going to Rosewood "I'm glad. Though there are some things I want to say before you head out on your journey. First, come with me for a second." he walked a ways down the beach and turned towards the waves. He closed his eyes "Close your eyes for a minute. Listen to the sound of the waves. Open them, and see its beauty. Remember this moment. Peace is a fleeting thing, but these moments are what we need to anchor ourselves in. There are moments where you'll want to scream and cry because it's all just too much...and that's okay. It's okay to be scared, stressed, and confused. It comes with being alive. But whenever you feel angry, sad, or hopeless...think about this moment right now. The sand, the sound of the water, the warmth. Think about this place and take a few deep breaths. Count numbers if you have to, but you would be surprised how much a calm train of thought can affect how you see the world and how you want to proceed."
He frowned slightly when Archon explained that digimon in the Dark Area say these things about humans "I see. Well let me tell you another thing. Look at this." he knelt down and pulled out his digivice. It, and Toki, now seemed to radiate an intense amount of power, though it would only be noticeable if one were to focus. "This...my digivice...chose me. I don't have a Digimon partner like a lot of humans do. I am a Spirit User. My partner is the spirit of a Digimon from long ago who has willingly given me his strength to use. With it, I can become a Digimon and fight alongside all of you. I consider the Digital World my second home, and I want to do what I can for it. For all of you." there was a faint image of a digimon behind Toki who nodded slightly to affirm Toki's words. "The Digital World chooses us for one reason or another...and so many people I have met who have Digimon partners treat them with love and respect like a friend or a family member. We are not invaders. We're neighbors. Potential friends and allies."
"But one thing you should know about humans...no...about everything, is that not everything is so clear. There are good humans and truly awful humans. Just as there are good Digimon and truly awful Digimon. Some humans do bad things for good reasons or good things for bad reasons. Yes it's easy to just say someone is good or bad...but the world is far more complex than that. There might be those who still judge you for where you're from or what you are, but..." he put his hand on Archon's shoulder if he'd let him "There are truly amazing people out there who will make the hardships worth it. Don't think of people who aren't immediately hostile towards you with complete suspicion or fear. You never know who can be a friend to you without taking a risk and talking to them. I mean, look at me! I've made a great friend today because I took the time to make sure how they were doing. Archon...if you need anything...don't hesitate to seek me out. Even if it's just to talk."

Archon agreed with Toki's words on the matter. Yeah, he was a rough digimon, but, it wasn't like he wanted to be one. All those that had wronged him, hurt him, shaped him into a distrustful little dragon that thought this nice human an enemy at first sight.
As the BlackVeemon mentioned he might like to go to Rosewood, Toki said there was some things he'd like to say beforehand. Archon supposed he'd best follow. If this was a key to living in Rosewood first, something like a code of conduct, he supposed he'd best listen lest he'd run the risk of going there and getting kicked out soon after.
Archon listened, then frowned in confusion at what was going on here. "Close my eyes and listen to the waves? Why?" he asked, suspiciously. But, Toki gave a good enough reason to. That this was a peaceful moment.
Archon related to a few of the things that Toki mentioned. That there was a part of him that wanted to just shut down everything and scream. But... making a moment he could go back on, where nothing bad happened, where there was only peace, where... he met a human for the first time, and instead of him being a malicious monster that would steal his soul from his data, instead proved to be the nicest person he had ever met. Yeah... that was a good thing for Archon to remember.
"I... can't think of a place, but, I can remember this moment, Toki" he answered at the end of it.
Archon then looked at Toki's digivice when he presented it. Toki explained he was a spirit user. That the spirit of a fallen digimon had chosen him to be his bearer. Archon had never heard of such a thing before. "...could you show me?" he asked, wanting to see this with his own eyes, so he could see it to be true. He had heard rumours of this, but wanted to see this firsthand, so if at least if others asked him of this and accused him of lying, he'd know that he was right and they were wrong.
The words Toki spoke were kind and nice, but, at the moment, Archon didn't have all that he needed for them to ring true to his ears. And even so, Toki demonstrating his evolution would simply be a thing that he remembered. But, the utmost kindness in which Toki was speaking to him... Archon at once dismissed the notion that all humans were evil. In fact he wanted to meet more humans. And Toki's further advice cemented that. Yeah, there was good and bad humans. Archon didn't see that as a reason why he should be hostile to the lot of them. Especially when the first meeting he ever had with a human seemed to be one of the nicest interactions he'd ever had.
Archon let Toki grip his shoulder, thinking about what he said. That he shouldn't immediately judge someone to be good or bad. After all, he could never know someone's full intentions at first sight. And, given that he had put his trust in Toki and had been rewarded with some nice food, well, maybe there was sense in this?
"So... don't prejudge people, that's what you're sayin?" Archon asked in reply. "Well... okay, I guess I can go by that. If they turn out to be assholes though I will aim to smash their faces in" he added with a growl, but, this concept of people actually being nice to him, it was a foreign feeling. And not an unpleasant one either. Archon hoped he might be able to grow with it in fact.
The offer of help was not lost on him either. Archon looked up at the human. "Well, Toki... I'd really like that" he admitted. "I mean, I don't expect you to babysit me, but, I think if I needed to get by in this place, I do need help, because... I honestly don't think I'd know how to be nice to someone like you have for me" he looked down at his feet with a bit of shame with that. Being nice... that would sure solve most of the problems in the Dark Area wouldn't it?

Toki listened to Archon and was felt so relieved when he said that he'll be able to remember this moment. "Good. You've made an important step here. A good memory to fall back on is something a lot unfortunately don't have the luxury to have." he said with a hint of sadness in his voice. That Archon will have this moment to rely on if he ever finds himself overwhelmed is something Toki is glad he was able to teach him.
He laughed when Archon said that if he met anyone bad he'd want to smash their faces in "Haha! Well I can't exactly blame you there. If there's a way to avoid a fight completely though, try to talk your way out of it. The best battles are the ones that are not fought. That's a philosophy some martial arts styles from the human world have, and I find myself agreeing. Though...if talking doesn't work, there's no shame in fighting." he said. "Though...yeah, what I'm saying is...don't judge people before you have a chance to know them, okay?"
Archon had asked him to see his Digimon form and Toki looked at his Digivice "Recently I climbed a mountain with a dear friend to find this next form. A Mega level Digimon. At first I was scared to use it...when I used my Ultimate I went on a rampage and needed to be stopped. I was horrified I would hurt someone. But there's something about this spirit that tells me that everything is going to be okay. Alright, Archon." he nodded with a smile and took a few steps back.
When Toki extended his free hand out, a large mass of data swarmed around it, more than his other spirits. He took a deep breath and began sliding the data over his Digivice, a massive pulse of energy radiating around him "Fusion Evolution!" he called out as the data dispersed around him, obscuring his form in its light. Several orbs displaying the phases of the moon appeared and hovered in a circle behind the data. The data began to float away from where it enveloped the human and, as if in a flourish to the evolution, formed the shape of a full moon behind a Digimon that looked similar to a Cherubimon, but different. It was thinner, had monk's vestments and an assortment of prayer beads adorning its body. They sat in the lotus position and floated above the ground slightly "ZenCherubimon."
His eyes seemed like they were closed, his expression peaceful as he looked over his new form. There was no danger of him losing control. He gently landed on the sand for the time being and sat a little more casually. "It seems this form brings me much peace of mind. I'm not sure how long I can retain it, but we are in no danger, so now is as good a time as any to practice keeping a hold of it." he looked over at the orbs and waved his hands around slightly, the orbs moving where his mind and his gestures willed them to go.
"You're strong, Archon. Stronger than you know. Not just in body, but in spirit. There's much potential waiting to be unlocked. Accepting that you need help is not a sign of weakness. Far from it. It's one of the bravest things anyone can do. If you ever have trouble trying to find the right words, think about what I have said to you. What have I done to help you feel more happy or at peace? You are your own person, so you will find your own ways. I'm sure of it."

Archon noted that Toki sounded a little sad here. He sighed. "Yeah... a lot of digimon in the dark area are like that" he said, sadly. Nobody knew how to be nice because they hadn't experienced anything like it. Kindness usually meant deceit and trickery. Hence why it was only after Toki offered Archon food that he trusted him. Words were nothing, but the food was real.
He supposed that was true about talking was better than fighting. It had certainly saved his ass several times when being threatened by a digimon stronger than him.
The BlackVeemon's eyes widened as Toki revealed that he in fact had a mega level spirit. The story sounded troubling, but, Toki seemed nice so far, so he'd watch as he took out one of those "digivices" that the humans use, then said some words and transformed before his very eyes into a digimon. Archon had to take some steps back from the lightshow, but he wasn't afraid. It was just fascinating and very soothing to watch.
"Incredible..." he breathed. Archon had never been this close to a mega level digimon before, he had never dared approach one in the Dark Area, so, all this was new to him. He listened to the spirit digimon's words.
"T-thanks..." Archon said, smiling. He'd remember this day. It'd be the first on his long road to recovery from seemingly years of trauma and abuse from his home. Perhaps this was a new beginning? A second chance? This was a new land after all, where the digimon seemed much nicer. And the humans... well, Archon had met only one so far, but he had by now thought of the words he had heard of them were ignorant lies.
"Guess I'll be headin' to Rosewood then" Archon said. "Which direction is it? Also... is it a hard journey?" Surely it wouldn't, this place was a lovely beach after all. He'd want to be prepared if that was the case. He knew he could take it though, Archon had survived so far in the barren wasteland of the Dark Area, surely this would work out?
Also, he supposed that he and Toki would be going their separate ways now. Which he supposed was fine, he didn't want to be babysat, especially if Toki had other things to do. "Hope we meet again someday, Toki" he said to the spirit user.

It hurt to hear that so many struggled to find happiness in the Dark Area. It wasn't fair...why has it been neglected for so long and who was responsible? Those Digimon aren't all evil, far from it. They're desperate and clawing at anything they can to find solace or escape, but the outside world shuns that place. It was something Toki would have to look into, even if it got him into trouble.
Despite that, Toki smiled softly before he reverted back to his human form in a shimmering spiral of light. "Anytime, Archon. Now let's see." he thought about the direction to Rosewood "We're in the Southern Tropics right now, the Binary Archipelago to be exact. Rosewood is in the Eastern Timberlands, so from here you'd want to journey to the northeast. If you need a map or a place to stop on the way, Whitewater City is nearby. From there it should be a trek through the Bayou before you reach the forest proper. It's not the most treacherous journey...no deserts or high mountains to conquer on the way."
Toki couldn't help but worry about Archon, but if he insisted on coming along he'd seem pushy or overly protective, something he felt wouldn't make Archon very comfortable. He felt that he had to take this journey and discover himself "Yeah, I suppose it's time, huh? I should be getting back home myself...a lot's happened this visit to the Digital World." he said. He knelt down and gave him two more packaged bread snacks and a bottle of water "Here. For your travels. It's the least I can do. You're going to do great out there, Archon. And, if you ever need me..." he took out a notebook and tore a page out before he wrote a series of numbers on it. He folded it and gave that to him as well "If you find a means to communicate, give this number a call." he said.
With that, he took out his Digivice and aimed it towards an open section of the beach before activating the Digi-Port function. A portal opens up before them "This leads back to my home in the human world...I wish I could use this to bring you to Rosewood right now, but sadly I can't. I'm sure you wouldn't be comfortable stepping foot in the human world yet anyway." he stepped into it and looked back one last time in case Archon had something he wanted to say. If not, the portal would close and Toki would be gone.

Archon took note of the directions in which to go. "Okay, Whitewater first..." he repeated, not really liking the idea of a big city though, but, supposed he might as well use it to get his bearings. Then from there, through a place called the Bayou.
"Well, I've had enough of those in the Dark Area, so, that's welcome I guess" he said on the subject of there being no deserts or mountains, with a kind of tragic chuckle.
Then before they parted, Toki offered him more gifts of food and water. "Aw, man, you're spoilin' me" Archon playfully complained, but, in reality, he was very much grateful. Being given gifts was awesome! He had never received such things before, and he was sure by now that Toki respected him as a digimon, so they weren't given to him out of pity.
Then, Toki shared with him a strange set of numbers. Archon blinked at it, before supposing he'd keep it for now. "Okay, thanks" he said.
Following that, Toki opened a portal that he said led back to his home. Archon almost wanted to follow him, but halted himself. That was a path of humans. Archon didn't think that was the right place for him at the moment, so he held back.
"Bye, Toki" the BlackVeemon said. "Thanks... for everything" was all he said before the portal closed. So, with that, Archon would thus make his way toward Rosewood, and seek out his place in this new continent.

Because of the kindness Toki has given to him, Archon's alignment has shifted from Evil to Neutral.
