Ticket to the Moon [Ayumi]

Both Ayumi and Solomon were surprised by the appearance of Vemmon, Ayumi moreso than Solomon. She actually slipped off her seat and fell down. "Argh! That Spirit scared me!" She picked herself up, and sat back down. "An independent spirit, though, wow! Haven't seen that since we went Fossil Searching with Amy! Must be hard to share your mind with another!" Solomon's blue eyes remained trained on Vemmon as he nodded when Mao said that the alien was nothing to worry about. "I see, a spirit, not necessarily something out of the ordinary. You *are* taking good care of your host, aren't you, Vemmon?" The question sounded like Solomon was expecting the answer to be "no". A Spirit that decides to stay hidden until pointed out, yet which also watched you, struck the Monodramon as suspicious.

It wouldn't be wrong to assume that Mao would have been terrified at being informed that Vemmon had decided to show himself. But, she seemed calm enough. A little worried, perhaps but she was overall calm nonetheless. The girl moved to help Ayumi pick herself up and sit her back down. "You okay...?"
To say it was hard sharing a mind with Vemmon was...an understatement. "Eh...It's alright. Not the best in the world but I've managed." That seemed like an appropriate response, right? Vemmon meanwhile kept his one eye trained on Solomon. "The host is alive. I am not. So long as the former yet lives, I do too. That is our arrangement. That said, she has a bad habit of getting into trouble. More than I do."

Ayumi gratefully accepted Mao's help. "Ah, thank you!"
So it was not easy, but not bad? Well, that was good enough for Ayumi! "Ah, I see! If you worked out something then all is well, huh?" Solomon, however, was less willing to just accept Mao's and Vemmon's explanation. His eyes narrowed at the alien. A shared life link is a good way to avoid premature death, but not a good basis for a proper relationship between Spirit and User. And the "more than I do" part struck him as suspicious. "I...see..." He would keep his eye on Vemmon. He still did not know exactly why, but he felt Vemmon was not one of altruistic inclination.

"It's something. Not the best of agreements, I'll admit. But I would probably settle for...something that didn't involve turning into a monster and the like. I mean, I'm used to it, but..." Mao finished that off with a shrug. "Can't imagine others would be."
Vemmon's eye narrowed right back at Solomon. Like it or not, the alien was not a good person. But he was at least honest. "Of course you see. You have two eyes." He only had one, after all. That was also the last thing he had said before he simply decided to not show himself anymore, fading away as quickly as he showed himself.
"...How long do you think this train ride takes?" Mao inquired, looking to Ayumi and her partner.

Solomon glared as Vemmon disappeared into nothingness. He began to unconsciously rub his wing blades, as if he was sharpening them. He would strike down this alien if it tried anything, he swore to himself. Mao's question did pull him out of his thoughts. "Ah, how long the ride will take, uuuuh." Ayumi looked out of the window. They had already left the atmosphere, and were rapidly approaching the satellite. She was impressed. "Whoa! We're so fast, yet the train hardly wobbled when it left the atmosphere! This is physically improbable, yet makes total sense in the Digital World! Oooooh I love this place!~" She was hugging her bag to her chest in glee. "It would appear we will arrive shortly." If Solomon could smile, he'd smile wide over Ayumi's excitement.

Mao gulped a little at Solomon's gesture. Good thing she asked that when she did, huh? "...Wait, really?" She was shocked at the idea that they had travelled so far up into the air in such a short amount of time. This was also probably the shortest train ride she had ever experienced.
Huh.
"Yeah...This place is full of impossibilities. The sheer amount of which actually kind of overwhelmed me at first." Maybe that's why she got stuck as Vemmon on her first trip to this world? Otherwise, the pale girl's excitement seemed a bit contagious, considering Mao had a bright smile plastered on her face. This trip was proving to be a little nicer than she had thought.

"I do have the running theory that the Digital World operates partially on the Anthropic principle, meaning things happen because we expect them to! Sure, Digimon dissolve into Data and reincarnate when they die, but we actually found Fossils in the Shining Sea! Why were they there then? Simply because the background parameters of the Shining Sea were so ideal for fossilization that we simply expect there to be FOssils, so they were there! Likewise, we expect the train from Earth to the Moon to be super fast and stable to even facilitate the trip, so it happens! Sure, it makes no sense *physically*, but in our mind it makes sense, because why else would we even use trains to get to the Moon??" Ayumi was -really- enthusiastic. Solomon leant over and whispered to Mao. "That's her Pet Theory, she'll tell it to anyone who's willing to listen."

Anthropic what now? Mao sort of felt like her eyes were going to glaze over at any moment with this theory that the pale girl was throwing out there. Sure, she could understand bits of it, but she also couldn't grasp at a good majority of it. Basically, the world was formed based off of...expectations?
Was that it?
"I mean...Back when I was a kid I used to think trains were like rockets on wheels. Maybe we just expect rockets to feel like trains...? I-I'm sorry if I'm screwing up with this whole theory stuff. It's really neat, though! I mean...I wish I could understand it a little better but still!"

Ayumi scratched her cheek nervously and giggled awkwardly. She always got carried away when she indulged herself in this theory. "Ehehehehe, kinda? W-w-w-well, the take-away is that things happen because we expect them to happen!" She decided that this was already plenty of talking about it. Jeeze, no wonder people consider her a nerd! And she was blushing again, her pale skin betraying any flushed artery and vein immediately. Ever the loyal knight, Solomon picked up the pace and distracted Mao. "Are you expecting anything from the moon, Miss Mao? Surely, anyone has an expectation of the surface of the moon, be it a secret place where moonfolk live, a paradise for rabbits or a barren, dusty wasteland?"

"Oh. Oooh. Okay, that actually...Yeah, that's what I was thinking it was. Expectations and their fulfillment!" Mao was kind of glad to get that out of the way, though the once-oblivious girl only now noticed Ayumi blushing. Not that it was difficult. "...Hey, you okay?" She asked, tilting her head a bit.
Then Solomon came to the rescue (for his tamer) by distracting the spirit wielder. "I'm...not really sure what I should be expecting. I mean, I'm putting any expectations that this is like Touhou or anything down before I'm sorely disappointed, but...I guess I'm just expecting something like how photos of our moon look. Except with Digimon on it. A white open land with Digimon. That sound reasonable?"

Ayumi felt like she was about to escape unharmed, but then Mao asked her if she was ok. Which made her blush -worse-. "Eeeeeh? N-n-n-no, I'm fine, It's j-j-just really warm in here, is all!" That excuse sounded better than "My decades-long suppressed homosexuality is getting back at me by making me blush over any attractive girl I meet". Solomon nodded. Mao had a boring, but very realistic idea of what to expect. "I...see. I, personally, am expecting a large amount of domed cities, with Digimon living in them. And I once heard that the moon is covered in silvery foliage, which is why it's so bright..."

"...Is it? Could try adjusting the thermostat if it's that bad..." Mao seemed concerned. No, really, like it was genuine. She was honestly incredibly oblivious as to Ayumi's predicament right now. She turned to Solomon and noted...Well, that was interesting. "Maybe the domed cities are hidden somewhere on the surface? Or they're invisible?"
That's why they got domes, don't they? There was only one thing left to do at the moment aside from keep talking to two people that seemed friendly. Wait for the train to land. "Hey, Ayumi, you as excited as I am?" Boring as Mao's expectations may be? They were still a product of curiosity.
And Vemmon wanting to go there but still, curiosity.

"no, please, no, I'm fine, r-r-r-r-eally!" Ayumi just wanted this topic of conversation to pass. That Mao was so oblivious made the knife twist even more! She felt like she wanted the earth to split open and swallow her! Solomon was quite concerned now. Seems that he could not tear Mao away from his poor Tamer. Luckily, Mao herself seemed willing to change topics. "Eh? Oh yeah, I am very excited! Super duper excited! It's a new frontier! I will be the first member of the Digital Field Club to set foot onto the lunar surface! It will be a small step for me but a huge step for digital sciences!" As soon as the topic was back on science, Ayumi stopped looking like she wanted to die. Fancy that.

"...Okay! If you say so."
Mao, if I may so kindly interject...I have the strong suspicion this lady is experiencing...attraction. To the same gender. Subsequently, you may or may not be considered pretty. That was probably the only kind thing Vemmon had said so far. Still. Some insight was welcome. The lady probably wanted some space, so...A change of topics was definitely needed, clearly.
"Not just that, you'll also likely be the first member of the club to bring back stuff from the moon. Like experiences. Or moon rocks! Or fancy stuff!" ...One had to wonder if there were actually aliens on the Digital World's moon. Then again, one also had to go and find out, right? "...Orrrr...Maybe you'll find aliens? ...That aren't my spirit?" Mao seemed happy that Ayumi was looking better. Embarrassment didn't suit her.

Taking a closer look at Ayumi, Vemmon appeared to be right on the money, considering that Ayumi avoided looking at Mao at all, as when she did not look at her face she looked at her body which made her twitch, as if she was yipping. Poor girl!
But now, they were mere minutes away from the moon surface. The train was slowing down, and the announcer proclaimed the landing on the lunar surface within the next three to four minutes. This set Ayumi to hop in her seat in excitement. "Ah, we're almost there, this is so exciting! It's like Christmas and Birthday at the same time, with a whole heap of Graduation Day Cake!" No one's ever looked more exciting to set foot onto a white, barren rock.
