How to Publicly Shame a Furry (Bass/409)

Post by Haru Toriya and Tawna on Jan 1, 2019 6:43:09 GMT
Haru was conflicted here. It was a rather bizarre experience separating herself from her time in the Digital World... After having spent so much time there, it was honestly an odd feeling to go back to a normal human life, if for just a little while. Or at least... she was trying to have a normal human life.
Somewhat tricky when you don't exactly qualify for human now.
She had been somewhat away from the Field Club as a whole. Besides a few individuals, mostly no one knew her condition now... just that she had decided to take a hiatus from Digital World stuff. Could one blame her? She died and had an existential crisis all in a very short amount of time from her own perspective... she just needed time to clear her thoughts, that was what she resolved to do.
Well... its been two months since that happened, and she STILL has not divulged anything to her friends. She didn't know why she was hesitating so much...? Maybe she was just growing comfortable with pretend to have a normal life... she didn't honestly know.
For now, she wasn't trying too hard to think about it. The Toriya family was mostly out of town besides herself and Naoko, so she had been bumming around at their house with her sister... and with the wonders of having a minimum wage job, they had free reign on what to eat. The holosuit'd girl was at the local pizza joint, waiting in-line for her order to process... Four large pizzas, each covered in all manners of different meats and with extra cheese. Frankly, even being a Digimon has not changed her eating habits... only now her appetite was way larger. Sure she couldn't really get fat from it now, but it did hurt her wallet considerably more than she personally liked.

This was like you're pretending that nothing actually changed when SO MUCH had changed over the span of...Naoko was barely even sure how much time had passed anymore. Was that what being in a haze did to you? Likely. It was fortunate that the Toriya parents had decided to take time out of town.
Now it felt a little less awkward for now. Naoko was, at present, shocked at the size of Haru's order. FOUR large pizzas? "...One of those had better be for me because there's no way you can eat all of those."
Needless to say, it was just the two of them at the moment. Titania was back at the Library, thank god. "Do you need me to help you pay or anything...?"

Finally being home in the Human World for once makes Alice feel relaxed as she searches the northern section of Shibuya, almost relieved to see crowds of human beings for once in her life. With Dorothy seemingly not at her side, the green haired woman holds her notebook closely as she searches for some sort of familiar face, anyone she can talk to about the many things she's been through as of late. And honestly, she feels like she needs a break more than anything else, just looking for something to do and relax.
Her eyes soon catch sight of two partially familiar faces, different from the last time she's seen them, but unmistakable. Haru and Naoko. With the two currently busy ordering pizza, the green haired woman waits outside for a bit, considering what to say before finally approaching, silent at first and only speaking when she makes her presence known, waving to the pair. "Hey. Long time no see, you two... It's been ages." Her tone is slightly nervous, not quite sure what to say next. "Sorry. Is this not a good time?"

"God no, though Tawna probably would if we let her." Haru muttered as shw picked up the stack of boxes, but not before checking to make sure the order was right. She might have been a big eater, but Tawna was a bloody blackhole. She warmly chuckled at her sister's offer... Despite how much they butted heads alot and their own differences, it was very clear that the two Toriyas had a bond unlike any other. "Nah. I had some coupon codes. Trust me Koko; when you are out living on your own, you learn to really be thrifty." she mused, smiling as she handed some bills to the cashier.
Heading outside, it didn't much effort for Haru to notice a certain green-haired and tall young woman just outside the pizza joint... Haru's eyes widening slightly realizing who it was.
Oh dear... It kinda WAS a long time, wasn't it? The black-haired girl seemed to flinch slightly realizing this... she seriously had not met face to face with anyone from the club face-to-face besides Koko and Mikemon this whole time! Sure Tamernet existed, but it wasn't exactly the same as actually seeing someone. "O-Oh! No, its not a bad time! Koko and I were just getting some dinner to bring back to our place since we're watching the house for our parents." Haru spoke, seeing no need to hide what they were doing. She was considerably more mellow than her normally sunny disposition, though at least was trying her best to keep a smile on.
"I guess how are you Alice? What have you and Dorry been up to recently?" she ended up asking, figuring that it was at least worth asking how some of her friends have been fairing. There was that mess that happened with K awhile ago, but hopefully that was just a thing of the past... Everything was. The girl took a few glances around nearby perhaps to see if Dorothy was around, but she honestly could not catch a glimpse of that red-clothed demon woman... Holosuits did kinda dampen any senses like smell or hearing to a more human-level, so she was relying exclusively on those. "Speaking of... where is she?"

"The fact that you're probably right is what hurts the most." Titania was pretty similar from what Naoko could recall. The fairy just needed to hide every single thing she ate. Since she was tiny, it really just took one thing to feed her. "...Wait, is that what being thrifty is? Sheesh..."
To say Naoko wasn't expecting to run into Alice here would...actually be quite true. Then again, running into your friends outside of the digital world? Preposterous. Though, Naoko certainly looked a lot more...different than the last time they had interacted. "Oh, hey, Alice!" She gave a wave! "Uh...What she said. Also, it's pizza time. Don't ask why we bought all these larges." Haru had kind of already asked the same thing she was going to inquire about. So...No need to be redundant.

"I got a Digimental recently." Alice whispers to the two so as to not get heard by others, tempted to show the sketches in her notebook but deciding not to. "Seeing how the new form Dorothy can take has the ability to turn invisible, I decided to have her try it out for a bit." She glances around, knowing that she's somewhere around the group, but not where in specific, a slight irritation evident in Alice's voice. "...It almost feels like she gets into more trouble this way."
It isn't long before an invisible person giggles, though it isn't easy to hear, the sound strangely muffled. Though she isn't visible, the source of the voice is most certainly Dorothy, not willing to reveal herself around several people unaware of Digimon, though she does speak to the two other Tamers. "Been ages since I've seen ya. Seein' me might have to wait, umm... Yeah. Not a good time. Too many people."
"You say that now, but I had to stop you from taking things from people three times already..." The green haired woman sighs, rubbing her leg slightly and wincing. "And aside from that... I've been in a fair share of scrapes." She doesn't seem that comfortable talking about it, but she isn't exactly in the mood to share in such a public space. She decides to change the subject for now. "Is that really you, Naoko? You look... Completely different. No idea how that works..." With a chuckle, Alice dreams up some explanations for this drastic change, but she shoves those thoughts aside. For now, she's just happy to relax for once. "Anyways, I could... Share my notes, if you two would like. Or we could just talk over large amounts of pizza... It feels a little awkward having been away from things for so long."

Haru while initially thought that the witch Digimon was just nowhere in sight, it seemed that Dorothy was not as far off as she thought... Digimentals were not something she had much experience with, but it was a good explanation from Alice. It didn't take long for a giggle from seemingly nowhere confirmed the Digimon's presence... enough to actually cause Haru to briefly flinch.
"O-Oh... Uhh, good to see you Dorothy... Well, not really see you. You know what I mean." Haru seemed to stammer, her head a tad preoccupied. Did they notice something was off...? It kinda was hard to tell considering she couldn't even see them...
Deep breaths Haru. Deep breaths. Alice at least didn't seem to notice anything awry with her... though the shapely young woman definitely took notice of Naoko's new look. "I mean you do. Mom had to go buy you a whole new set of bras just to suit ya." the elder (well, technically not if you counted that Rookie levels as being kids) Toriya sister commented before turning to Alice. "Do you guys want to like tag along back home? We could talk when we get to our house." the girl offered, pulling out a pair of keys and clicking a button... the sound of their mom's suburban softly honking nearby.

"Giving Dorothy invisibility does sound like a recipe for disaster." Naoko nodded a few times, before...She instinctively peered around. True to the green haired woman's word? Dorothy was invisible. Like that scalie guy from Mortal Kombat. "...Scrapes? Uh...Same. Life's not easy."
Then Naoko just turned bright red at both Alice and Haru's comments on her appearance. Sure, she looked way different. Blue hair and all, but she couldn't seem THAT different! "H-Hey, you shut up!" She snapped towards Haru, before calming somewhat. "...Long story. Uh. I can explain at home."
She still had no idea how Haru could drive if she was, in fact, a furry now.

"Hah, I don't know. Sure as hell seem different from the inexperienced, somewhat nervous sort I first met at Whitewater." The green haired woman laughs, covering her face slightly. "Oh well. Things change. I'm sure Haru remembers when I was new." She leans forwards a little bit, glancing at Haru with a slightly confused look in her eyes, but she soon dismisses it as nothing, just that unfamiliarity one tends to get around people who have changed. Taking a few steps back, it takes a bit for her to agree with the possibility of tagging along home, but she nods. "Yeah. Better than talking about... This sort of thing in public. People might notice."
"...And not notice us now? Ya know, I find it weird how you keep insistin' on secrecy." Dorothy rolls her eyes and groans, her slightly muted comment audible but her actions unseen. She can sense something off about Haru, something strange, the more familiar of the Toriya sisters' presence disjointed in a strange sense, but not enough to be suspicious... Just a little unsettling.
"...Makes more sense than talking about potentially sensitive information at a pizza joint." Alice rolls her eyes, saying little more for now.

"I think we all been through some crap... but I like to think we've all came out stronger because of it." Haru mused, recognizing just how far they all had came from the perhaps newbie tamers they all were. Some fairly fond memories did cause her to smile warmly, if just because they were also a simpler time. "Oh yeah! Back when Tawna was a bit of a klepto and uh... tended to eat all the local fauna. My place is only now starting to get birds again now that she isn't actively slaughtering them all and hiding them in my underwear drawer."
Thank fuck that habit is over. Naoko should be happy her undergarment problems never escalated THAT far. The elder of the two Toriyas lightly bumped her sister's shoulder, letting out a playful giggle. "C'mon Koko, I'm just joking!" she teased though soon nodded as Alice seemed to give the A-Ok towards that plan. "Rad! Its a quick drive, so shouldn't be long... Just climb on in wherever!" the holosuit'd Digimon cheerfully spoke as she soon began to walk towards the car in question as she pulled up the trunk and slid the four boxes of pizza stacked onto eachother into a little alcove, with some sliding doors to the back seats opening.
As soon as everyone was in, Haru turned on the ignition and fairly easily soon backed out and was back on the road. Thankfully, the whole "dying and being frankenstein'd to life" bit has not dampened her driving skills... at least in a holosuit. Last thing she really needed was to try driving as a small dog. "Now that least we're somewhere no one can hear us, do ya wanna go first Alice? It kinda sounds like you and Dorothy have... been through a lot."
Maybe not nearly slash actually dying tier, but she wasn't willing to discredit their experience... After all; Alice helped defend the library from K awhile ago, so there was no doubt in her mind that they were experienced enough to get out of most scrapes.

"I mean, I have a cool scar I can show to Otohi--Ryuko from one time. And a hatred of desert from another time." And cats, especially cats. Fuck cats. "...We don't talk about when I was new. I think I'm still sort of new...Hey, Alice, did you ever get some real hot chocolate?" She snickered at the green-haired woman.
Thankfully, Koko quieted down enough for the ride over. It was true that they were now out of prying eyes and ears' range... So she decided to wait for everyone to speak their piece before she'd share hers, if asked. Or if anyone even cared, really.
After all, as much as the stuff they went through sucked? It could always get worse...

"No, there isn't real hot chocolate even at Rosewood, which is where I went after the... Incident at the Library." Alice's expression says it all, a slightly cold, unpleasant one indicative of how she feels about what happened that day. "We wandered a bit, went a couple places... And eventually Dorothy got angry at me for..."
"...I dunno, breakin' the natural order? Gyahaha, you never saw or heard me get in~." Fading back in is Dorothy, sitting in the seat next to Alice with a smug grin on her face, despite the slight hostility to her voice. Instead of her usual appearance, Dorothy is shorter, blue and in a frilly dress of some sort, still laughing at her own entrance. "Yeah. What Alice did back there ain't normal, and it doesn't take a genius to know why." She fidgets in the seat a bit, prompting Alice to get the seatbelt around her.
"Either way, we wanted to go out exploring the world again and... Get away from all the chaos, and we stumbled upon Rosewood. It was surprisingly welcoming and good for research. They even let me teach a few classes there." Alice explains, not willing to discuss what happened before that. She opens her notebook, flipping through the pages and deciding to elaborate on that. "With some notes borrowed from the Field Club, I had a pretty good time." She then closes her eyes, not wanting to say what else happened there, but she feels like she has to, and states it clearly. "Me and Dorothy also had an argument. She just explained why."
The blue, imp-like Digimon glares at her own Tamer and raises the chameleon puppet with an angry expression on her face, giving Alice a mild threat. "Can we please talk about anythin' else? Like, uhh... What do they call ya... Koko? Why ya look so different, are you actually a Digimon 'n ya evolved?" It's clearly a joke, given how Dorothy bursts into laughter afterwards, laughing for a good while.
"...It's not that, but I'm not sure I want to explain to you." The emerald haired woman rolls her eyes at her partner, hoping that such a poor comment isn't too offensive. "We also went into Old Terminus, but the less said about that, the better..."

Haru did know that Alice and Dororthy definitely had a bit of an eccentric relationship, even among tamers and partners; it however was a tad surprising Haru didn't know what quite had created such a rift between the two girls, but it was clear both parties were struggling to want to talk about such incident. She could kinda relate with the whole "breaking the natural order" deal, but she wasn't going to pry into details if they weren't ready.
Though her attention was primarily drawn to the road, it was quite noticeable that Haru was a tad... jumpy, especially with the joke that the Mienumon threw out. Yeah, way to scare her just then... Last thing she needed was to go and swerve into another car or something! She died once already, a second time was not needed!
Nonetheless, Haru remained fairly quiet throughout the conversation between Alice and Dorothy, only speaking up when she felt a moment arised. "I don't really know whats going on, but I'm not gonna pretend I don't for a lot of things. Everyone else in the Field Club is in general a whole lot smarter than me, but I want to help you guys with anything you two might be going through or have gone through. Thats what friends and family do. We help support eachother." the girl mused, even turning to the backseat as they came to a stoplight. "If it helps... uhh, Mikemon kinda has been helpful to talk to, least for me. Its not like he's a psychiatrist, but he does a damn good job at it for me and Tawna honestly."
It probably was for the best they kept the conversation going... Jump from one topic to another. She was starting to kinda realize that this was probably a bad idea if she was intending to keep her little secret safe, but she couldn't just go and tell Alice and Dorothy to get out now, could she? She decided to kinda veer the focus of attention on Naoko, least figuring that'd help. "Gee, I don't even know the full details on that... Something about Naoko and Yukiko going to the Empyrean Skies and uh... what did you two go there for again? Sorry, its just been awhile since I have done anything Digimon related." the elder Toriya asked her taller, yet younger sibling.

"...That's. Uh. Okay, color me disappointed in just about everyone at Rosewood then. Sheesh, met my girlfriend there and they don't even have good taste." That last part was muttered. Why? Well...She was looking at Alice when breaking the natural order was mentioned. "Should I be worried?"
Maybe? "Haru's right. We're friends, and family, and...well, what family doesn't support each other?" She then peered towards Dorothy at her questioning. "It's...a long story. We went up to the Empyrean Skies to get Mizu a Holy Ring, got wrapped up in a giant conspiracy, a Chaosmon was made, I ended up with blue hair and needing a whole new set of bras, and Titania's convinced Holy Rings are great wedding rings now. Uh. That's the only Digimon-related thing I've been doing. Also apparently Titania's Tamernet account got...hijacked by a cat? Her last message to me was gibberish."

"...How do I put this?" Alice shivers a bit, both in excitement and fear, a difficult to read expression forming on her face as she stops flipping through pages. Her notebook displays a picture of Wisemon and a large amount of Digimoji. "It's a little off topic, but have you ever went skydiving? That sense of freedom, power and excitement, yet imminent danger? Not from others, but yourself..." The mere memory of what happened back then causes her to anxiously run her hands through her hair. "It was a little like that."
Dorothy's response is a simple grumble at first, even less willing to elaborate and unamused that she even hinted at something. Remaining silent, she waits to respond to something else. "Wait, ya went up there, to the stuck-up snobby place? To get Mizu a Holy Ring? Ain't she, like, a lil' too, uhh... fishy for one of those?" Now, the Mienumon is the one asking the questions, her curiosity more than a little less refined than her partner's. "Chaosmon? Weddings? Cats? Gyahaha, somehow goin' up there 'n getting a facelift is still the wildest thing." Relaxing a bit in her seat, she continues to laugh, the blue, imp-like Digimon finding what little she has been told rather entertaining. "Guess it all worked out in the end if you're here talkin' 'bout it, though."
"I was planning on heading to Luminas for research purposes, but after... Everything, I thought it would be best to rest at home for a bit. And maybe do some research on Digimon in this world." Alice states, simply flipping through the pages of her notebook some more. "I don't think Titania understands human practices all that well. Then again, Dorothy doesn't, either, so there's that."
"...This about me takin' stuff I think we need, or the candles?"
