Something Familiar [Adrien/Ask]

Arthur leaned against the seat in the Trailmon car, his back to the window and his feet kicked up on the arm rest. His backpack was in the row across from him, with the blue and red "Digivice" set next to it. Currently, he was pouring over a map he had grabbed at the terminal in the place called the Digital Core. Not that the device that had guided him to the abandoned line that ended up taking him to this world had been much help in showing him what to do next. It had been completely silent since he'd boarded that first Trailmon and left him basically stranded and gaping at this "Digital World" like a fish out of water. At least, Arti could take solace in the fact that he had the sense to grab a map before he'd jumped on another random Trailmon as it was pulling out of the station.
From what Arthur could glean, it appeared he was headed eastward on a line that who's next stop would be a little settlement called Rosewood. Sounded as good as place as any for the time being. Maybe he'd run into someone who could give him any clue as to what this place was and what the hell he was supposed to do, preferably a human. He wasn't quite comfortable with the idea of talking animals just yet. Arti sighed, lifting his eyes from the map for a moment to look at his digivice. Just what was its purpose? What was it supposed to do? Most importantly, why had it come to him in the first place?
Questions he didn't have the answer to and would likely discover in the coming days. Arthur sighed again as he felt the Trailmon begin to break, looking up to see the buildings of a small town come into view, followed by a little train station. The American got to his feet, throwing one strap of his backpack over one of his shoulders and picking up the digivice. He studied it for a moment, before slipping it into his jacket pocket. "Let's see what the Digital World has to offer..." he mumbled to himself as he exited the Trailmon and entered the little town.

While one human was just entering Rosewood for the first time, another human was happily enjoying his fourth or fifth visit to the newly built town. Adrian, a dirty-blonde haired eighteen year old human was sitting down at a nearby cafe with his Digimon partner, Shoutmon. Half of this trip was to just explore more of Rosewood, but the other half was about discussion in a relatively safe place.
"It's making me very antsy, Shoutmon," Adrian was saying as he was drinking his DigiMocha, "It's been months since New Years and DATS hasn't done much of anything. I can't help but think they're going to just jump in out of nowhere."
"Well, we don't have anything to worry about now, do we?" Shoutmon asked, taking a bite out of his pastry, "I mean, those jerkhole Digimon WERE stopped, and there hasn't been too much rogue Digimon activity as of late. Maybe they're more helpful than we think?"
"Yeah, you'll say that before they drag you away forever," Adrian sighed as he rolled his eyes. Just then, something caught his attention. It looked like a human being with dark black hair walking into Rosewood. He couldn't see a Digimon with him, though. "Hey Shoutmon, what do you think?"
"About what?" Shoutmon asked before laying eyes on the human as well. "What's that guy doing here without a Digimon?"
"That's what I'm going to find out." Throwing away his paper cup, Adrian casually walked up to the newcomer human. "Hey, you there. Are you lost? Do you need a way home? I don't see a Digimon with you anywhere."

Arthur walked through the town, looking around at the small buildings and trying not to stare at the passing Digimon. It appeared that they were somewhat used to the presence of humans, as they would only give him a passing glance before continuing their conversations. It seemed that quite a few humans made their way into the Digital World to do...whatever they had to do, he guessed. It didn't look like the average joe could come into the alternate dimension, so, clearly, Arti was important in some way. That raised his spirits a little bit. At least his stress about possible insanity wasn't for naught.
That was when a voice caught his attention, this one sounding distinctly human. Digimon, from what he could tell, had a sort of filter or some such on their voices, sounding somewhat animalistic or distinctly non-human in speech. He turned, spotting another human, a boy who looked slightly younger than him, but annoyingly enough, a few inches taller, with a red, metallic Digimon following behind him. He blinked in surprise at the question, raising an eyebrow and cocking his head slightly.
"I'm supposed to get my own Digimon?" Arti asked, ignoring the question on whether or not he needed help home. He wasn't sure what the guy meant. Were Digimon some kind of creature you collected or something? That didn't seem to be the case, from what he could tell. They seemed sentient, with personalities and lives of their own and not something akin to collectible figurine collections.
"But, no, I'm not lost. Just trying to figure out what this place is, really," he said, finally answering the boy's other questions. He pulled his Digivice out of his pocket, clicking one of the buttons on it to light up the screen. The same, small robotic figure he'd seen when he first gotten it popped up again, but nothing else happened. "Any ideas what this might be?"

When Adrian saw that human just walking throughout Rosewood alone, he assumed at first that he arrived like other random people do: a portal ending up somewhere in the Scramble Crossing. That seemed to be where the most digital activity took place these days. So when he walked up, he was genuinely asking the human if he was confused, or had no idea how he got here.
The guy asked if he was supposed to get "his own Digimon", which Shoutmon took offense to. "You better not let anyone hear you say something like that again. We're not trophies, we're living beings. Besides, I heard slavery in the human world was not allowed, anyways."
"You know I didn't mean it like that, Shoutmon," Adrian told the red dragon before turning to the human, "I was just wondering if you met your Digimon partner yet. It's very unusual for a human to be walking around the Digital World all alone."
The human cleared up that he was indeed not lost, and pulled out what Adrian assumed to be a Digivice. He asked if Adrian had any ideas on what it might be. Upon taking a closer look at it, he had only seen a device like this once...
And it belonged to Toki, who was a Spirit User. That meant...
"You're a Spirit User," Adrian gasped, "you can use this to turn into Digimon! You haven't figured that out yet?"

Arthur raised his hands defensively as the Digimon next to the guy warned him off of saying Digimon belonged to people. "Hey, I'm really new to this! There's a lot of cutesy animal collector type stuff in the regular world," he said, beginning to chew on his thumb, a nervous tick he had yet to outgrow. He shook his head at Adrian's statement, shrugging. "Nope. No Digimon's specifically come up to me, at least, not without something they want to sell me at the same time. Probably would have been super helpful in figuring out stuff, I guess."
Arti blinked as Adrian made a declaration, not quite sure how to process what he was saying. A "Spirit User?" Turning into Digimon? What exactly was he capable of? He looked down at the Digivice again, studying the 3D model on the screen for a moment. "If I could do it, I would," he said, scratching his head. "You know someone who can do this, too? How did they do it?"

"Yeah, I noticed that," Shoutmon said to the human, in response to the dozens of animal collecting things. "It's honestly kind of creepy, I gotta say. I doubt a Digimon would like being stuffed into a tiny ball like that. The V-Pet at least offers some space!"
"A V-Pet is a program that essentially turns the Digimon into something like a Tamagotchi, if you know what that is," Adrian explained, since the Spirit Wielder seemed very new by... well, absolutely everything.
The human seemed to be taking in what Adrian had said about his Digivice. He asked if Adrian knew someone who could do this as well. "Yeah, a friend named Toki is a Spirit User. I don't know exactly what he did, but I believe he pressed a button and a ring of code appeared around his hand. After that, he scanned it, I believe."
"Yeah, obviously Adrian isn't a Spirit User so sorry if it's still confusing for ya, kid," Shoutmon says. "Oh yeah, his name is Adrian and mine is Shoutmon. What's yours?"

Arthur could only shrug at the Digimon's analysis of the animal collection thing, scratching his head with uncertainty. "I couldn't tell you why people do it, but I think they're different from Digimon. More animal like without much of a formed society. More just...packs, I guess. I think they're thing is they want to be captured or something," he replied. He looked at Adrian explain what the device Shoutmon indicated was, frowning slightly as he asked if he knew what a Tamagotchi was. Yes, he knew what a Tamagotchi was, one of the most popular toys one could find on an elementary school playground. "Well, guess I won't need one of those. I don't think I can very well put myself into it."
"The name's Arthur. Pleasure to meet you," he replied, looking down at the Digivice again and tentatively pressing one of the buttons on it. The data stream, as Adrien had indicated previously, appeared, making Arthur jump in surprise. He stared at it for a moment before tentatively lifting the Digivice up and placing the top against the data stream. He stared at the screen as he held his hands up and he swore the little figure on it was wiggling in excitement. He blinked in surprise before looking back at Adrien and Shoutmon.
"Guess there's no time like the present to try, eh?" he said with a sheepish grin. With that, he slid the Digivice down the data stream, carrying a line of data with it that quickly moved to surround his entire body in a cloud of code.
He couldn't see much, only being able to feel heavy objects surrounding his limbs and chest that soon felt as if they were one with his arms and chest, followed by a helmet like objects sliding up out of his new chest piece and enveloping his head. Not long after, the data cloud disappeared, leaving just Arthur in his brand new Guardromon body. He stared at his hands, dumbfounded before looking back at Adrien and Shoutmon again.
"Well, isn't this something?" was all he could say, his voice now robotic and tinny.

"Less evolved kinds of creatures you mean?" Shoutmon asked, raising the equivalent of an eyebrow. "Adrian showed me some of those types of things from your world. I gotta say, humans are very creative when it comes to that kind of stuff. Still, kinda creepy."
The human then introduced himself as Arthur, which sounded very English to Adrian. And he knew, since his mother had given him a western first name. He watched as Arthur played around with the buttons on his device, something that probably was not safe to do at all. Eventually the data stream did appear around his hand like they said it would. Eventually he did scan that data with his device, causing Adrian and Shoutmon to step back when he did.
Arthur was then surrounded by light and data. It was quite a sight to see. When the light faded, Arthur was no longer standing there. He seemed amazed by what had just happened, and so was Adrian.
"You're a Guardromon," Adrian gasped.
Shoutmon was impressed too! He walked right up to Arthur and lightly banged on his chest. "Bet you weren't expecting to become this today, were ya?"
The group wasn't alone in witnessing the transformation. It seemed that every Digimon in their field of view had just seen what happened. And they were impressed as well, as they ran right over to Arthur and started asking multiple questions.
"WOW, THAT WAS AMAZING!" "Are you really a human underneath all that?" "Does this mean we can turn into humans?!" "Can you perform attacks?" "How did you turn into a Digimon?! Tell me, tell me!!!"
