The calm before the storm [Kakemi]

It was interesting to hear how DNA Evolution and regular evolution both boiled down to similar basic concepts. Anzu had fallen silent as Jaenryu admitted that he didn't have much of an answer, if at all, to Anzu's question. But that was okay, that just meant that she had to find the answer herself. She gave a nod to Jaenryu as he moved back to where he dwelled. ...That being Jazz's body.
"Shouldn't we go outside if we're going to train? Don't want to accidentally burn the place down..." Anzu began, before the sudden gasp (from Goyi) startled her as well! "...She did. Why, um...do you know about them?" Anzu looked a little alarmed, but that was likely thanks to her being startled just now. It was a miracle she didn't just blow the place up. Akemi took a deep breath as she listened to Katherine. "...I think I might be overthinking things, myself. You're right, it...feels like it's my fault but it really isn't." She said, adjusting her hat a little. "I don't...think it's yours either, at least..."
She gave a nod towards Katherine. "Yeah, we should. No more kisses after this one. At least for a while." A pause. "...I don't know how I'm gonna go a while without that, but I think I'll manage. So...with that being said..." She had been looking at Kath this whole time, so she had definitely noticed Kath trying to avoid looking at her.
Akemi didn't bring that up, though. She simply turned her head away from the Spaniard and called out for Goyi. "Goyi, we're ready!"

Did Akemi just… agreed to that!? UGH. UGGGGGHHH.Although she kept hiding it by avoiding to look at her friend into the eyes, Katherine was even more pissed off now! Akemi just didn’t care did she? Fine! Two can play that game, then. The Spaniard just raised her gaze, listening to Goyi’s response from up above. “In a minute, bo!” To this, Katherine just quirked an eyebrow. She was super interested in them kissing before, what could have gotten her busy up there? “I need to get rid of these intruders who want to hurt master.”As her eyes widened, the teenager just squealed. “Anzu and Jazz!”Of course, they had left these three digimon meet without having explained anything to anyone! “WaitWaitWaitWaitWait!”Time to defuse this bomb before it's too late. Katherine just rushed up the stairs.
It had taken a lot of calming down furry and unfurry digimons. A lot of explaining and a lot of patience. All of it occurred at the second floor. Once they were done, things seemed to have settled down. “So the one in the picture is this Wanyamon's master and Bastian and Paul’s best friend: Kuma, the Pandamon.” Jazz noted, showing the same portrait she and Anzu had checked before, when they just arrived. “Exactly, bo. And you two are Rine and Kemi’s digimon partners. Which means we’re friends too.” Goyi nodded, a tender smile on her face. “Yes!” The same type of smile was drawn in Katherine’s lips. “Now… kiss.” The ship thriving creature added, looking at Anzu and Jazz. “N-no way!”
Now that everyone had calmed down, Katherine had taken time to cook some of the food she had brought, using the flame provided by that fireplace at the second floor. Some very simple dish of meat and vegetables made with ingredients she had bought in Whitewater, which constituted the supplies she had for her own tent back at the council. After an hour or so, everyone was having lunch together. While she ate her food, and after thanking her new friends, Goyi tried to recap on everything they had told her. “So you need the Zoid Gems, in order to go to the Drum Sanctuary and get your questions answered. Mr. Luke stole four from you, and now you want them back, along with the Saffron Zoid Gem, too. That means you have to get inside their hideout in Terminus and beat who you have to beat.”“Yes.” Katherine, who was sitting at the ground, nodded. “But I give you my absolute word we’re not going to hurt your master or anything bad like that. Bastian and Paul are our friends, and they have helped us to get where we are. This close from actually getting to the Dark Army's hideout to fight them.”“We don’t know the rest of the army. Although I think one of our friends got to know them from up close.” Jazz merged with the conversation, referring to Amelie. “We can’t promise you there’s not going to be any fighting involved, but we can promise we’re not going to hurt your master.”To this, Goyi shook her head. “Don’t worry, bo. I’m not a kid, you know? I understand you have to fight for your interests, and the Dark Army will do just that. I’ve always known they’re not either good or bad people, they just have their own objectives and will fight to protect those.”
Katherine’s eyes widened. This little archeologist was a lot more mature than what she seemed like. “My master is a bear of his word. If he sworn he would fight alongside the army until he paid his debt, there’s no way you can talk him out of that. And there's nothing I can really do to stop you, either. I think beating him will be super hard because he's strong. I just want you to promise me you won’t cause any irreparable damage to him. Other than that, I know he can take the pain.”Who would know. Goyi was very diplomatic! “Promise. Right?” Katherine nodded and then gazed at Akemi and Anzu. "But..." Her eyes went to Goyi again. "... Why are you okay with this, Goyi?""Well... if the Dark Army is defeated or you get that Zoid Gem back..." She made a pause. "I-I... I know it's super selfish b-but..." Of course... it all made sense. "I just... I just want to see him again, bo." Could anyone really blame Goyi? She had waited for seven years. They could do this. They just had to avoid fighting Kuma or aim to beat him without putting his life at risk. After everything Goyi had done for them, it was the least the group could do. “Now… Since Basti left Terminus so long ago, he probably hasn’t been able to provide you with much insight, right?” Goyi was actually very much right. There was so much Bastian knew about, given that he had not been an active member of the Dark Army for years. “If you’re going to go inside the Dark Army’s hideout, though… you’re going to need information from someone who has been related to them during all of these years, bo.”“B-But… who might that be?”
With this, the little Wanyamon started bouncing towards some shelfs, looking for an item. Then, she wrapped her tail around a small cactus, placed over a flowerpot. Katherine actually recognized that item. She just… couldn’t quite tell where she had seen one exactly like that one before. But she knew she had. “Does that… seem familiar to you?” Jazz turned her head to Anzu. Apparently, the two digimon had also seen one like that before. It was cute but… what was it for? Goyi placed the plant at the middle of the group, where they were just eating. Then, she smacked it on top with her tail. The thing started beeping, issuing a green light. It seemed like she was calling someone. Maybe it was one of those D-Terminals that looked like regular items. “Master didn’t let me have any way of communicating with him during these years, because he didn’t want the Dark Army to know where I was, in order to protect me. However, he gave me this to communicate with someone he trusted, just so he could know I was fine. I speak to this digimon every now and then.” Goyi confessed “Since he’s still technically a member of the Dark Army, I am sure he can be of a lot of help for you.”
The thing stopped beeping. Someone had picked up, and it was a video call! From the cactus, and holographic screen was deployed, showing someone everyone inside that warehouse knew very well. “Hi there, little Goyi! I wasn’t expecting your call.” Paul, the Veedramon, seemed to be at the back of his restaurant, back in Shibuya. Of course! That’s where Katherine and Akemi had seen a little cactus like that before. “Y-You have company…!” The dragon muttered, before noticing who they were. “M-MISU!?”It had to be a huge shock for Paul to see the girls who had been at his restaurant some days ago (due to time running slower in the real world) actually knew Goyi! “Mr. Paul!” Katherine's eyes widened. It was always nice to see a friend. Besides, that brought back some memories.

...In hindsight, there -was- something she needed clarification on. After she had called out to Goyi, she turned back to Kath. "...Sorry if this is a stupid question, but...how long is a while? Like...Is it until we get home to Deeplane or...? I'd...I kind of want to kiss you ag-" She didn't get to finish that sentence, unfortunately, considering Goyi called down that she had to destroy some intru--...
Wait. Intruders? "...Oh noooooo." She wheezed, before she ran after Katherine and up the stairs! While it had taken some effort to calm everyone down, it was notable that Anzu didn't seem to care -that- much over who Goyi's master was. Her quarrel was not with him, but with the man behind the man.
That being said, upon being told to kiss Jazz...
"...Look, she's cute and all, but she isn't my type. I like nuns! Sistermon! The ones that didn't shoot me in the head!" Anzu yelled in protest, looking extremely embarrassed at the prospect!
After that rather perilous amount of explanation occurred, the group thought it'd be nice if they cooked lunch. This was going to take an hour, but all things considered? It was Kath's food, so it was well worth any hour of waiting. Akemi had been sitting on the ground next to Katherine and devoured her food! ...Faster than Anzu did, really. The tamer paused her eating to nod at Goyi.
"That's a good summary of the whole thing. My partner and I -especially- don't know anyone in the Dark Army, but we can probably pick out which one's your master from the rest and avoid hurting them, right?" Anzu could only give a nod at that.
Akemi fell silent at Goyi's explanation. She wasn't sure how she could just be okay with this, but Anzu did give another nod towards her. "It's sad that it has to be that way, but I'll try my best not to harm him irreparably." Of course, both the tamer and her digimon looked to Katherine and Jazz as Goyi laid down who her source on the hideout was. That...cactus looked familiar to Anzu. She squinted at it.
"It is..." The bean murmured. Akemi kept glancing to Kath for confirmation as to if they've seen this before, before the screen popped up and revealed...
Paul. Akemi was far too surprised to speak for approximately five whole seconds before she cleared her throat and waved! "Hi, Paul!" She even tried to nudge Kath a little to say hi too. "It's been a while, how have you been faring?"

“W-What do you mean I’m not your type!?”
Did Jazz want to kiss Anzu? Well, no! But still! Rude!
“At least your friend thinks you’re cute…” Katherine muttered in a completely intelligible way for anyone else on the floor. That was definitely more than what she could say about what Akemi thought about her!
“Hi there, Paul!” “… Misu?” “Yes! This is my evolved form.” Jazz scratched the back of her helmet, a bit embarrassed. “You look like... something I could cook.”
While she slowly ate her own food, Katherine just stared at the holographic screen where the cook could be seen.
This made perfect sense. Paul was one of the two best friends of Kuma. Of course, the Pandamon had left the dragon in charge of his apprentice if he could not talk to her personally.
“I’ve been doing good, Misu.” The Veedramon nodded, still looking a bit shocked, but answering Akemi's question nonetheless. Once they confirmed with the cook the Dark Army had no access to that line, Goyi, Katherine and Akemi explained everything to the Veedramon. About how they had found Bastian, how they were trying to enter the Dark Army’s hideout and how that had taken them to Bastian’s warehouse looking for The Decrypter.
“I see…” A smile still affixed on his face, the dinosaur sighed in relief. “I’m so glad you have found him.” Although they had argued, Bastian was still his best friend. And he was just glad to know he was okay, out of the grasp of the Dark Army.
Going back to the topic at hand… “I didn’t expect to see you two so soon. Although I guess it’s not ‘so soon’ for you two.”
“It isn’t.” The green-eyed shook her head. “But we’re very glad to see you, too.”
“I would say I’m surprised you’re going to the Dark Army’s hideout, but… I’m really not. I knew you were brave and determined from the moment I saw you, so I wouldn’t expect less from you all.” The Veedramon mentioned, sounding a bit proud, even.
Unavoidably, a smirk appeared in both Katherine and Jazz’s faces. There were so many people that trusted them in succeeding, failing was almost not an option. No, it was not an option.
“I assume that, knowing all of this, you know why I called you, Pauli, bo.” Having finished her meal, Goyi looked at the screen. “Of course, little Goyi.” Another nod from the dragon. “After all, it’s time. Considering you’re almost ready to go.” A pause ensued. “I will tell you everything I know about the Dark Army’s hideout and the enemies you will find in there.”
Yes! That was just perfect!
An overly excited Jazz stood up. “Oh yeah! I’m ready to crush Luke!” Paul’s eyes widened. It also was not that surprising they knew the Valkyrimon, but…
“… W-What about the other two?” He asked.
Silence took over for a second or two.
“The… other two?” Katherine blinked twice. “They… don’t know, little Goyi?” The Veedramon turned towards the Wanyamon, who just shook her body.
“What?” Jazz turned towards the in-training digimon. “What is it? What is it that we don’t know?” She now directed her question to Paul. “Luke is… only one of the three Mighty Commanders.” “The… what?”
“There is three of them. Three digimon in the Dark Army that are just as strong as Luke, Misu.”
Katherine felt like the room turned a lot colder. Her mind was shattering in a million pieces.

"It's the pig suit." Anzu nodded a few times. "And no, she can't take it off! So she's permanently porky." The duo was able to understand why Paul was the emergency contact here. Friends trusted each other with that sort of thing quite frequently, no? "It's great to see you're doing well. We did indeed find him, mostly thanks to Kath's tenacity." Akemi stated towards Paul, while an arm tried to snake around Katherine to give the green-eyed a fond squeeze that...soon became a proper hug.
It was true that the Spaniard was largely the one to be given credit for finding the Ballistamon. It was thanks to that, as well as the help that Kath had, that they were here. Plotting and preparing for a direct assault on the Dark Army. Was it going to be difficult? Undoubtedly. Would that deter them? Well, no. Nothing would at this point.
Everything seemed as though it was going to be set up and aligned perfectly, except...They had appeared to miss a few details. Akemi's eyes widened at Paul's words. "There's...two more...?" Akemi asked, her grip on Katherine tightening (if it still existed, that is) as she spoke.
"So this is a hydra we're fighting." Anzu finally spoke up. "I never expected it to be that simple, but we did seem to make the mistake of assuming there weren't others like Luke...Though, I trust they don't have the Zoid Gems that Luke does."
Akemi took a deep breath. Okay. Okay. "...Kath, um..." She began, before her voice fell to a whisper. "...We can still do this, can't we? We just need to plan around this. I don't know if it'll be easy or not, but we should be capable of it..." ...Why was she hugging Katherine so tightly? Perhaps that'd be a contrast against the chill in the room.
"Who are the other two and where are they?" Anzu asked, simply.

While they chatted with Paul, Katherine just let herself be hugged by Akemi. She did not oppose any resistance to it, but also did not reciprocate the hug with one of her own. Her eyes occasionally went to the shorter girl, then back to the Veedramon.
Of course, her whole attitude had changed upon listening to the dragon's revelation. Two more. Two more menacing, powerful digimon just like Luke. Anzu, the only member of the group who did not seem to be completely paralyzed, had made the question everyone was asking themselves but could not ask.
"The Mighty Commanders are the strongest members of the Dark Army. The soldiers are split between three brigades: Alpha, Delta, and Sigma. Each commander leads one of the brigades. Luke is the leader of the Delta Brigade, the one Kuma and I used to be a part of. Bastian belonged to the Alpha brigade; that one is lead by Zu. The leader of the Sigma brigade is a secret to everyone. We never saw them neither were told their name." The whole landscape about the Dark Army seemed to be getting more clear, although it was hard to feel happy about this when they had just discovered there were two more enemies and a whole three brigades of soldiers waiting for them. After a short pause, Paul continued.
"The Delta brigade is the one dedicated to combat and exploration. Its members are the ones who are usually sent to missions at unexplored places or to complete jobs that involve leaving Terminus. The Alpha brigade is in charge of preserving the well-being of every member of the army. Usually, one member of the Alpha Brigade accompanies the members of the Delta Brigade on their missions. When I was an active member, it used to be an Effecmon named Ronda who went accompanied the Delta brigade everywhere, but that might have changed by now."
"I wonder how Rondi is doing, bo... " Goyi muttered.
"Just like its leader, what the Sigma Brigade is in charge of doing is a secret to everyone," Paul added.
Finally, Jazz spoke up. "So, if the Alpha brigade usually stays at the fortress, it means..."
"Yes. You will definitely have to face them. They are in charge of protecting everyone in there, so they will deploy as soon as they find out you are inside the fortress." A dead-serious glance was directed the pig girl's way. "I think Bastian knows what type of digimon Zu is, so you should ask him."
As she slowly processed all of the information, Katherine heard Akemi's voice, very close to her.
For a second or two, Katherine's eyes widened, looking at her friend. The shorter girl's brown irises were affixed on her, expectant of what she might do or say. The intensity of her look was similar to the first time she looked deeply into her eyes but... This time she was telling her something different with that look. She was not telling her 'you can trust me'. Instead, what her eyes were saying was: 'I trust you.'
This time around, it was Akemi who needed some reassurance. Some ray of hope that told her that everything was going to be okay.
"Yes." A firm nod. "We can do it. We will do it."
... And Katherine would give her just that. She had to. It was part of what she had sworn to become. Someone who other people could rely on.
It was then when Katherine realized maybe it was hurtful to be in love with Akemi. And maybe things were not mean to work between the two of them as a romantic couple, or maybe they were. However, what Katherine was very much sure of was that she was never going to let her go.
Thank God for Akemi Amaya.

…Why wasn’t Kath reciprocating? Akemi’s face briefly gained an expression that indicated worry, and she only squeezed tighter. It was really all she could...No, all she -felt- she could try doing with that bit of news. Anzu nodded a few times towards Paul.
"I see...Delta fights. Alpha scouts...And nobody knows what Sigma does, so I'm going to assume whatever it is they do is a secret because it's awful."
All in all, this was actually pretty useful information to keep in mind for when they actually went to face the army. Or, rather, the Alpha division. "I'll ask Bastian about Zu at a later time. Is there any other preparations we should make, with this in mind? What specifically should we be trying to do against the Alpha division?"
Meanwhile? It was true that Akemi was the one who needed reassurance this time around as she stared into Katherine's green eyes. It was almost like she had been lost in them until she gave that nod and told that they could do it. That they would do it. "...I know we will. I have you, and you have me. I know I can always count on you when the going gets tough. That's...That's part of why I love you, really."
For a moment, it was like Akemi was about to move to kiss Katherine on the lips. And she very well nearly did!
Except, she hesitated, and looked down at herself. She didn't...hesitate because she didn't want to in the end, but because of a small realization. A realization that she had made a mistake earlier in agreeing to that. ...It hurt. It practically drove her mad. She loved Katherine and she wanted to express that in more than a hug right now, damn it! It didn't help that she felt like she wasn't doing enough on that front, either.
So, how could she fix that...? "...Hey...Um...Can...Can we talk again later? It's about what we agreed on earlier..." She hated doing this twice. But it needed to be done. Otherwise, she rested her head on Katherine's shoulder and waited to see if Goyi and Paul had anything further to say.

Although she listened to Akemi closely, Katherine still avoided looking into her eyes. However, a faint smile did appear on her face, while she heard her talk about having each other, and facing whatever the Dark Army could throw their way. That smile remained there until she said… those other words.
In a moment, Katherine’s gaze turned into one a bit more melancholic, and that smile disappeared. Her eyes widened upon feeling Akemi closing up towards her face, and she just simply moved it to a side. No! She could not let herself fall for that again. Of course, it was good Akemi wanted to kiss her, but that is how it should always be! why did it have to be after they agreed to not kiss more for a while? Why did it have to come to this for her to actually give the person she claimed to love a kiss?
In Katherine’s eyes, Akemi was cold. And it was not fair Katherine had to be the one to warm her up.
“M-Maybe.” She answered, still without meeting her eye-to-eye, in the literal sense of speech. “Let’s get over with all of this first, okay?” She whispered.
Regarding the very serious matter at hand, Anzu had actually asked a pretty important question. What should be their plan, knowing the Alpha division would be waiting for them?
“Without a doubt, I would say this is a matter of dividing and conquering,” Paul answered.
“I agree, bo.” Goyi immediately got behind the statement.
“Little Goyi and I know the member of the Dark Army in charge of reuniting the Zoid Gems is Luke. Of course, he has been using the soldiers of the Delta Brigade to succeed in getting them. Now that he was all of them, he is the one you have to look for to get to them.”
“What if he stored the gems somewhere?” Jazz asked, still sitting on the ground.
“Then that would not change anything. I doubt he would tell anyone where he hid them, so you would still have to look for him.” Paul’s eyes went towards Jazz.
“Amy did mention she had seen one of the members of the Dark Army use the Lazuli Zoid Gem when they went on that mission,” Katherine remarked. “That probably means either lUke or the soldiers have the gems in their power.”
“I would expect Luke to only lend the gems to them when they need it.” Paul threw a very valid supposition, at least from Katherine’s point of view. “That means your best bet is to look for Luke and take the gems off him.”
“What did you mean with ‘diving and conquering’?” The teenager exchanged a couple of gazes with both Goyi and Paul.
“You need to create a distraction, Misu. It is clear the Delta Brigade will protect their leader, no matter what. However, if some of you can distract the Alpha Brigade, or at least part of it, the rest of you will have some kind of chance of reaching Luke.”
“So… You're suggesting we use some type of decoy.” Katherine placed a hand below her chin. Her mouth had wrinkled.
“You can’t avoid the Dark Army eventually finding out you’re there. But if they are too distracted fighting a part of you, maybe the other part can sneak in without them noticing, actually going for Luke and stealing the gems.”
“That sounds… very dangerous.” Jazz noted. A somewhat uncomfortable expression had appeared on her face. “How can we guarantee the decoy will leave safely? Basically, the whole Alpha Brigade would be after them.”
Paul’s plan was not bad, it was just that… it sounded hard to accomplish without someone getting badly hurt. Maybe they could think about all of this better in the future but… was there any way to make this work?
"Bastian can tell you about the hideout's structure and the path you should follow to reach Luke. He understands that type of complicated stuff better than me and the fortress has not changed much since he left, even if the Sigma brigade is relatively new." Paul confessed.
"You should probably talk to Basti and come up with a plan along with him, bo." Goyi suggested.
A ringing sound came from the other side of their video call. "I think clients have started arriving. I must go." Said the dragon, turning back for a second; then, he turned again towards the group at Bastian's warehouse. "I wish you the best of luck, Misu. I know you can do this. Say... 'hi' to Bastian for me."
Katherine and Jazz nodded, honestly feeling a little sad Paul had to leave.
"There is something else I would like to tell you, though..."
A very serious glance took over the Veedramon's face. "Regardless of what type of plan you come up with or what type of strategy you follow, and even regardless of how strong have you become, there is something you have to keep in mind at all times." The cook had never looked so somber about anything he had said before. He meant this with all of his soul. "You do not stand a chance against the Digital World's most powerful army in a fair fight. You must generate a distraction, fight them individually, and go for the gems. If you try to fight all of them directly, there is absolutely no chance you're leaving that fortress alive."
Considering how things looked so far, the dragon was absolutely right, and Katherine knew it.
After saying goodbye to the whole group, Paul hung up.

...Yeah. She really did screw something up here. Kath's reaction to what almost -could- have been a kiss just seemed to cement that idea there. From there, a number of increasingly perturbed thoughts started to well up. So, again...How could she...fi- ...Okay. So Kath might be willing to talk later. That...was good? Maybe? She had to think on what...started this. Hm.
Akemi couldn't even tell how she was doing in regards to appeasing Kath. As good as she thought she was at being able to pick up on the less obvious? Even she had her limits. "R-Right. One thing at a time a-and all of that...." She responded to the Spaniard, and surprisingly, managed a small smile. Akemi hadn't been sure if her attempts to warm Kath herself up were working or not.
...Perhaps she'd find out later. She needed to contemplate on this a bit further, either way. Akemi opted to shift her attention towards something else.
There was still a rather serious matter at hand to be discussed, after all. Akemi and Anzu found themselves in agreement with Paul. They would indeed need to divide and conquer in order to separate the Army from their most valuable weapon(s) in a manner that one could construe as...effective.
"A diversion is a great tactic for when you want to go and steal something. The main issue here, however, is time. Even if we all go in, we can't hold them off forever..." Akemi murmured. "Yeah. So the person who's gonna find Luke and take the gems from him has to be quick about it. In addition! ...Picking them off individually will take some time, but it'll serve us well in the end." Anzu added on, before she realized...
"...Gosh, picking them off sounds like I'm gonna lop their heads off or something. Still, disabling them somehow would be good...Anyways, we'll come up with something with Bastian, promise." The bean said with a resolute nod, before she and Akemi waved goodbye to Paul before the Veedramon hung up.
"Alright! I wonder if Bastian's got blueprints of the hideout. Like, uh...Floor plans and stuff. It kinda feels like we're planning a heist." Anzu rubbed her paws together in an almost...miserly way. "...We kind of are. Huh." Akemi...snickered, before Anzu glanced around.
"Sooo, is that everything? Or is there anything else you want to tell us?"
And then, it hit Akemi.
They still had not done the kiss.
"Uh...We -are- kind of forgetting something we owe to Goyi. Well, Kath and I owe her something, at the very least...."

She could not help it. Just seeing Anzu so into the plan and already thinking about its ups and downs made Jazz excited. They were going to fight together against a real enemy for the first time since Tayichi’Tai Fortress. It was time to really show her how far was she capable of going. As she stood up, a smirk appeared on the pig’s face, her yellow eyes drifting towards her friend for a second. “I’m already excited to see what you’ll pull off there, Anzu.”
It was time to unlock the power hidden within them, just like Jaenryu had said. Katherine, on her side, issued a sigh, standing up too. “I just hope the DNA works smoothly this time around.” Even if she had a very odd personality, Minervamon was their best chance at holding off against the enemies they were about to face. “It really seems like we are.” Katherine reaffirmed Akemi’s words with her own. What they were about to do was big, and it was only starting to hit her. Goyi, who even had a sink in there, cleaned the dishes Katherine had brought and dried them off. The Spaniard put them inside her backpack, and the little Wanyamon told them a little bit more about how was living alone inside a warehouse for more than seven years. Spoiler alert: it was not very fun. While they chatted, Katherine even found a very interesting gift for Amelie, considering her birthday was coming. The curly-haired girl decided to put it in her backpack, after receiving Goyi’s permission. Now, she had to ask Bastian if she could actually keep it to gift it to her friend. “Has anything changed now that you know we won’t be fighting the Dark Army directly? The possibilities they are still a thing for when we leave their hideout are very high.” Jazz threw the fairly obvious question Goyi’s way. “Not really, bo.” If the little Wanyamon could shrug, she would have. “As I said before, I don’t think I could stop you. Besides, you told me you won’t hurt my master, so I trust you, because we’re friends. Maybe after you take the Saffron Zoid Gem from Mr. Luke, Master does decide to come back, now that I won’t be at danger. In any case, the goal related to him ending his contract with them was not related to the Zoid Gems, so what you’re going to do could only bring benefits to my case and not cause any harm to me in any way, bo."Katherine remained silent for a second or two, then a smile appeared on her lips. “You are really smart, aren’t you?” “Thank you.”“If we bump into your Master we will tell him you’re doing okay and still waiting for him. We’ll also ask him how is his debt going and will come back here and tell you everything, okay?” Jazz showed a sincere smile to Goyi. “Thank you.” The ex-archeologist issued a nod. Now, about that kiss… “It’s okay.” Goyi shook her body again, showing a very calmed expression. “One of you really doesn’t want to do it. And it’s not fun if it’s like that, bo.”
Katherine wrinkled her mouth a bit, looking away from the in-training digimon. “When you’re ready to do it, if ever, come back here and show me a good one. For now, you can have the book.” “Are you s…?”A sound made Katherine flinch, making her interrupt her own sentence. Everyone on the second floor could quickly tell that was… the sound of the front door in the base floor, opening. “W-Who could that be?” Katherine whispered, her eyes slowly moving towards Goyi. “No one had ever come here in seven years, bo.” Goyi replied, keeping her voice down too. “And now I have two visits on the same day?” It couldn’t be a coincidence, could it? The Wanyamon looked both curious and a bit worried. “Let’s go.” Jazz nodded. Quietly, the group started going down the spiral staircase, taking a step at a time to avoid making noise. Could it be the Dark Army had found them already? She had only been outside the Dark Area for some hours! Besides… what would they want with her? They already had the gems. All of these thoughts raced through the green-eyed’s mind as those same irises scanned whatever they could see from the ground floor, looking for the unexpected guests. Next to her, Jazz and Anzu. Right behind her, Akemi and Goyi. They could hear multiple steps down there. There was something with four legs walking over the ground floor. “Are you sure it was here?” A female’s voice asked. “Yes. This is the place the radar showed.” A male voice, definitely thicker, answered the question. “T-The thing had not worked a single time through the last months, though, so it might be malfunctioning.” “It’s a good thing I know how to open portals, then. Can you imagine traveling from the desert all the way through here just because of nothing?” A short pause ensued. “What is this place, even?”The steps of the crew had stopped. Going down further would be a mistake. The intruders would be able to see their feet, while they still would not be able to see them. They had to go in by surprise. Jazz looked down the rail. “We should jump.” She whispered. It was probably their best choice to have some type of advantage, after all. “W-What is this?” The male voice asked as if he had found something down there. “Totems?”Goyi flinched. Akemi should probably cover her mouth and hold her back to avoid her jumping down there on her own. “W-Wait!” The female voice blurted intensively. “I can feel a huge amount of energy coming out of these ones. What are… these?”Katherine shook her head, looking at Goyi, her index finger over her lips. They were not letting them take Goyi’s totems, no way. It was then when Spaniard’s eyes widened. She realized this was the time to jump into action, now that they were distracted! Not really surprising Jazz had realized the same too. “Let’s… GO!” A gust of fire circling through her body, Jazz pushed herself over the rail and fell to the ground floor. And yes, of course, she was expecting Anzu to follow her. “What the…!?”The pig-girl ran at full throttle towards the intruders. Everything was happening too fast, and she could not even quite decry how they looked. However, she decided to tackle the biggest creature she saw: the four-legged beast that another figure was on top off. She slammed her body against the creature but… it moved. It moved too quickly! Impossible! She had gone at full speed against him, how could his reflexes be so sharp? Although she was able to scratch the beast, he managed to move out of the way just by an inch, jumping into safety. It was probably Anzu’s moment to clobber them real good. Except that… ... Now that Jazz had stopped in her tracks and turned around to face her enemies, she was able to quite get a vision on the two digimon. The one at the top was a digimon she had never seen before, but the beast she was riding… It did not take Jazz more than a second to recognize him. Maybe he had changed shape, but just from seeing those eyes, those eyes she knew all too well… Jazz’s eyes widened as two giant plates. The pig-girl fell on her rear, completely astonished. From the other side, the monster seemed to have recognized her too... and then… “BORU!?” “B-B-Boss!?”“BORU!?” Katherine, who had remained mid-way through the staircase, immediately went down the rest of the steps running, turning to see the Gururmon standing at the other side of the ground floor. “K-Kath…” The wolf muttered, still being unable to believe this. He had… finally found them? “This is… your sister?” Fei, the digimon who had been on top of Boru all along, asked completely flabbergasted. “Y-You’re kidding. The radar actually worked?” How? Boru had that radar even before Fei met him. Titania had tried to make it work back at the Bayou, she had tried to make it work after they started training, too. But then... how come it had just started working again out of nowhere and had brought them exactly where it was supposed to bring them: Katherine’s digivice. “W-W-What are you… doing… h-h …” Slowly, tears started forming around Jazz’s eyes. A piece of her family was… right here, in front of her… after so long. Not too unlike her partner, Katherine took both hands to her mouth. It would take some explanations from both sides to quite understand what was going on but… … in that exact same moment, she was able to feel it… … they were ready to go to Terminus. It was true that Anzu was getting into the planning phase of their attack, but the reason for that was...a little more simple than that. At her core, Anzu was a creature bred to be good at, what else, fighting things. Of course, planning a big fight with the Dark Army of all things would interest her. Meanwhile, Akemi was starting to consider the gravity of what they were planning.
It wasn't just a mere heist, no, it was...a lot more than that. It was something that they'd need to put every bit of ability and aptitude they possessed into. This included the DNA Digivolution. "It'll go far more smoothly, I'm sure of it. I think once they get through the first fusion, it should be far simpler for subsequent uses, which in turn...is great for us, and bad for them." Akemi nodded.
As for what they'd do if they ran into Goyi's master, Akemi nodded in the direction of Jazz. "Mmhmm. I'm sure he'll be happy to know you're safe and sound." The girl sounded calm enough to say that, but when it came to the topic of the kiss...
Akemi had been uncertain on how to feel towards the fact that they didn't need to kiss after all. On one hand, there was a palpable well of frustration building up in the girl. All the strain on her relationship with Katherine today, and it was...unnecessary? No, maybe it...She couldn't put a finger on how to feel about that, either. Yet at the same time, it was better, considering Katherine didn't seem to want to do it that much either.
Buuuut...What about that stupid deal, though? Perhaps that was something that should be touched upon another time. Not here, at least. Despite her mounting frustrations and other internal conflicts, Akemi had been about to ask a question, before Kath cut in to take those words right out of her mouth, and the noise was heard. What....was that?
As the group slowly moved to the spiral staircase to discern who was there, Anzu's ears were able to pick up the sounds. "Mmm...Quadruped..." She murmured... "A boy and a girl...Who the hell are they?" She whispered towards the group. At the mention of totems, Akemi moved to cover Goyi's mouth and hold her back while Anzu and Jazz sprang into action!
The situation went several places quite swiftly from there. Akemi slowly descended the stairs as Anzu and Jazz were about ready to clobber the intruders, Anzu herself preparing to unveil her (unspeakable) perfect form, but...Jazz had stopped herself. Recognition. The bean moved to help Jazz up, shockingly enough. "Holy--...Are you well?"
Then Jazz uttered the name Boru. Where had either of the girls heard that before...? Of course, back at Nei's mansion. Then this was Jazz's brother? Or, rather, one of them? "...This is...unexpected." Akemi, noted. Anzu, meanwhile had sort of...composed herself, before she spoke.
"Boru, huh? So, you're one of the brothers that Jazz's told me so much about. You have one of the kindest sisters in the world, and for that, I am happy to say...It's nice to finally meet you."
Yes, an explanation was sorely needed. But, with the unison of these two parties, now they definitely were ready for a fight amongst fights.
