Salaryman's Sanity (Vetina)

Perhaps it was just her current situation due to recent events. Maybe she wanted to see his reaction of her return. Maybe it was because her friend Betty did not want to use Vetina's holosuit and come here, despite not getting one of her own, and that she was more or less Vetina's only actual friend she was alone for the time. But here Vetina was, again, hoping to see Yaku once more.
She had saw him from a distance, again preoccupied with other things, when some street thug ran and stole his lunch. Huh... well, she'll have to do something about that...
By the time Yaku finished his vending machine purchase, in moments he could see the same thug walking to him. One arm was behind him, the other holding Yaku's lunch. But that guy's face was contorted in pain as he whined and whimpered. Behind him was a familiar figure, mostly obscured by the thug in front of her having his arm wrenched behind him, but her clothing and pink hair would be a giveaway. When she got close enough with him, she peered from behind the thug and smiled.
"Don't expect a shadow to where you trek, I merely was nearby. Anywho, it seems as though this person has, oh, an apology and money to give you. Out of the kindness of his heart..."
For one thing, Vetina already took half of his money. Second, the thug would have no means of escaping. While her holosuit limited her physical strength, this did little in her ability to easily break this guy's arm if she needed to.

He blinked, picking up the food from the vending machine and his stuff from the thief. "I... uh... thank you..." He was unsure how to react. Perhaps what he'd saw at the last moment was his mind playing tricks on him. Perhaps it was an illusion... perhaps she had changed... whatever the reason, she'd returned. Watching the punk run away, he looked at her and his now over-abundance of food. "I guess this is a thank you present?" He asked, offering the candy bar and noodles to her.
"Uh... Vetina, right? It was nice of you to do that... and a weird coincidence..." He said, picking up his briefcase to return to the park bench. "I take it you're here to... uh... why are you here? Not to be rude or anything..." ((Wooo, second page~))

The punk had ran away, thuroughly humiliated. Vetina was, as Yaku have seen, not above theft. She didn't do this for any sort of justice. She did it just because... for the most part. She did assume that this food was also from his wife and, well, from her one experience with it it was too good for the punk go just run off with. No, Yaku was the only one who should be eating his wife's lunch.
With a thankful nod, she took the food and went to sit down with the human. As she did so, she twirled her finger in the air, gathering water with her aquakinesis. Once she had enough, she opened the lid of the ramen cup and out the water in. Now she really wished Betty was here. She could heat the water up quite easily. Oh well, lukewarm ramen would have to do.
"My purpose here? To be frank, to alter this current speed and theme of my life. A relaxing tempo to soothe. Besides, this is a fine park, pleasing to my eyes. A good setting for unwinding for me."

Yaku blinked, watching her fill the cup with water. Double-checking to see he wasn't drugged he sat down beside her. "You're quite... unusual, you know that?" He asked, opening his lunch and finding that, happily, the thief didn't get any of it. "I see... I wish I could go somewhere more... relaxing and calming, permanently... but my vacation isn't until months from now, and it won't be paid anymore now that I've been demoted again... Do you have any friends? ...Other than me, I mean."

"Unusual... a kind label to stamp. I've been stamped worse." The then talked about wishing he had a vacation, although it was month's away and unpaid. That was unfortunate. She knew enough about "jobs" to know his position in life sucked. There were digimon with jobs as well. But she couldn't help but to laugh when he referred to them as "friends".
"Friends? We're friends? Oh, there's no air of unpleasantries surrounding the concept, just of surprise. You nearly ejected your bowels yesterday once this illusion fell, and today we're friends. The thought brings me some amusement.
Anyway, acquaintenances, Cohorts, allies, I have a fair number of. But actual friends? No, aside from Betty. But she owns no guise to hide her appearance and refuses mine, so there's no one else."
Vetina began to make squeezing hand gestures near the cup, saturating the hard noodles with water. Of course, this is her first time, and it wasn't going well.
"You suffer occupational woes, it seems. Care to expound slightly?"

"Well, my boss doesn't like me... I keep getting demoted, having my pay docked, every one of my co-workers abuse and bully me, my car keeps getting towed, my suits are all uncomfortable, my sanity's taking a massive strike if I'm still discussing things with you, no offence, nobody takes me seriously, I keep finding things stolen... let's be blunt. It's not good." He sighed, breaking the chopsticks into two and beginning his meal. "But at the end of the day my wife will reassure me that everything's fine, that I'm doing the best I can, and that one day we'll have a beautiful child..." He relaxes as he said this.

Vetina had listened to Yaku talk about his problems at work. It was obvious that part of his problem is that he let people push him around. A rather large part of the problem, even. She had felt sorry for him, but at least his wife seemed to be the driving force that kept him going.
"Admirable will for someone who gets pushed about. But a good mate offers mutual power, I say. Me... I've of no occupational standing. Just freelance, really."
She pondered a bit, and then would lightly hit (not nearly hard enough to hurt) Yaku on his shoulder. "Say, since we are 'friends', perhaps I can give ease to your life by performing some task to aid you in your work place a bit. Don't worry, no lives shall be taken."

He blinked, unsure how to respond as he rubbed his shoulder. "Erm, there's no reason to be so aggressive towards them... I know they're kind of jerks but... I'm sure they don't mean it... if I just talk to them maybe they'll stop?" He asked, hoping to talk her down from whatever crazy plan she had in mind. "I mean, I like a new friend as much as the next guy but... maybe you're a little bit aggressive..." He said, becoming quieter with each word towards this strange woman. "...Just don't hurt them, please... and don't mention me by name... I... I probably can't stop you, but I'm pleading for you not to start anything..."

After all that, Vetina could only laugh. She managed to keep it down, however, and she eventually stopped. "My aggressiveness is of moderate distance from your truth. But... Oh, no, you misconstrue my words. I would not lay harm onto them by direct methods. I do not end human lives save for pure self preservation. An appropriate event has yet to happen to dignify such actions, and even harming ones like you... no sport to it. Only crazy... certain types of crazy ones would derive, say, accomplishment or purpose from such easy prey, no?"
She began to eat from her noodles, thankful it came with a prepackaged chopsticks, which she seemed adept in using.
"But as of yet, no action can be taken. I know not your workplace, nor any specific action I would take on a specific person. I merely asked if I could aid you. I'm a part-time ninja, and a hobby florist. I'm no hit-person or assassin or the like."

He sighed in relief, returning to his meal. "Good, good... Vetina, your name was... right? ...Was what I saw yesterday... real?" He asked, hoping the answer was no. He hoped his mind was playing games with him. He hoped this slightly pudgy woman was completely normal and that he'd just need to spend less time doing overtime. He hoped she wasn't really some odd mer-creature that had found a fascination with him and his wife. He hoped he'd never have to think about that statement or any variation of it again.
But if it did happen, then what would he do? If he told anyone he'd be labelled as criminally insane. He'd be sent to an asylum to be studied and probed for years to come. If he didn't tell, it would well in his mind, shattering the frail reality he'd known for so long. He would become an outcast in Plato's Dungeon, the veil of shadows cast away to realize something far more real than he may ever anticipate. He really, really hoped it didn't come to that.

; "Vetina is my handle, take care to remember it. And yes, that visage was real. If you indeed see my facade fall to reveal a green lady in blue swimwear. If you saw otherwise then you'd really need to question your sanity, hahaha."
She ate a bit more of the noodles, and continued. "I hail from an alternate world. The Digital world. I myself am a Digital Monster. Digimon is the common portmanteau. Many kinds can be seen there, our home. Many are capable of great feats and power. I myself know a few where, were they inclined to, would do onto this place a rock onto wet cardboard.
*If* they were inclined to.
Many digimon command multiple forms, and I am no different. The form you saw was called Ranamon. A lot of digimon walk, hidden in plain sight, around here."

Yaku went silent as all this entered his mind as subtly as an ice-pick into his temple. He had lots of more questions than he'd started out with. From simple "How did you get here"'s to "Why are you here?" to "why're you fascinated with me and my wife?"
It was far too late as he realized he was asking these questions and many more aloud.
"Why are you hiding? How many more of there are you? Do all of them look like humans? Is that why you can do these odd things? Who named you? Are you all intelligent? Am I the only one who knows all this? Why did you tell me?" He asked, the questions flowing like a faucet before he held back and tried to calm down.

The digimon in disguise calmly ate more of her ramen as Yaku bombarded her with questions. It was to be expected. Once he finished, Vetina continued eating... then suddenly stopped.
"Oh, you're finished. In order...
Otherworldly creatures cause unneeded panic and troubles, ruining a good visit like a fly in soup. Other digimon number quite high, mayhaps close to humans in quantity. Ah, but few are humanoid, and rare of those, ones who could pass for human with no effort in disguising themselves. Odd things is a relative observation, but my speech is unique. Can't remember who. Intellegence varies greatly from instinctual beasts to brainy scholars. You, as a human, are not unique in knowledge of us, in fact very far from it.
And... we're friends, right?"
She looked at him with a curious stare. Hopefully he would not feel threatened by this, but she wanted to be sure. This human, albeit a bit spineless, was alright in her book. She needed another friend, and had no qualms with a human as a friend.
"Friends and no closer. Once more, I hold no romantic interest in one already bound."

"I... of course we're friends... It's just... odd and sudden..." He sighed, deciding to ask the three important questions from earlier, but more elaborated upon. "How did you get here, if you come from another world? Are you from another planet? Another dimension? A hidden society like mole people in those bad serials?" "Why are you here? Are you here simply to make friends? Are there secrets you want to discover? Is there a lack of space in your own world? Is this simply an age of exploration for your kind?" "...Why me? I like you, even though we met yesterday, but why me? Was it chance? Was it because I look nice? Is it my family that intrigues you? ...Did my wife send you?" He sighed and took a deep breath, looking at her, hoping he hadn't hurt her feelings in some way.

The girl smiled when she had confirmation that they were friends. Of course, she could not freely reveal her past (he was asking enough questions. Not that she minded those, but telling him her past would be difficult for him to wrap his mind around.), but she appreciated having someone to talk to.
"My world is not subterranean, nor heavenly in spacial reasoning. My world merely runs parallel to your world. There's methods to procure entry to either world, although such info is unnecessary at this time. Ah, but one day it'll be added to your knowledge.
And I revealed my reason here prior. A change in tempo from the usual, and the ownership of my troubles could be relieved, if for a short while. Certain of our collective species cross over for their own leanings. Telapathy is far from a skill I have, and as such not privy to their leanings.
And why you? Given a chance crossing, I find that you're admirable, although not wholly worth to model, but neither am I. I myself lost my love... is it bad to enjoy hearing of two who's love is binding as glue in my position? Or should I be that bitter pill of lasting effect?"
