Matter and landscapes distorted and refocused, subtly complying with the humanly —and digital— senses of their possessors as they advanced through that apparent vagueness. Ultimately, the reality the three girls came to witness was vastly different as the initial landscape they had beholden. What was in front of them, exactly? A massive, almost endless scabland extended through the length of where the group was treading. It looked completely barren; thinking life was possible in a place such as this one was a challenge in and on itself. Above them, the same yellow sky they had witnessed before illuminated the scenery. Littered with orange clouds, it seemed like evening was somehow approaching the strange realm, given that not one, but two suns were setting on the horizon. The… horizon? Were the clouds that made it really in the sky? As Amelie focused her sight, she noticed that, some distance ahead of them, the mist that formed them descended, forming a ring around a structure that just now was beginning to become slightly clear. Tall spires emerged from it, signaling at least a single lumbering building that had managed to avoid the brunette’s sight, at least until now. “It’s… something, I guess.” She mentioned, doubt evident in her tone as she pointed towards the most striking structure far ahead. “Do you think that’s actually in the sky, or that there’s some kind of water body up ahead? That’d explain the mist… if it’s mist, that is.” By now, it was pretty much impossible to tell, wasn’t it? Nonetheless, Amy advanced, more or less unhindered by the sudden change of scenery or how… alien the landscape itself was. “Do you think anyone lives in a place like this one? I kinda wonder if that’s sustainable at all, given how arid it looks.” There wasn’t much to note about the expanse itself, at least until —if?— their destination was reached. The trio was indeed in front of a depression of some sort, but whether it was a moat, a lake, or something different altogether, it was hard to guess. Similarly, and due to the thick mist that arose, it was impossible to know if there was any water up ahead or just… a cloudlike haze. It was a shame, but the shape of the buildings was still being obscured by the fog. How vexing… “Huh.” She stared ahead, then signaled at what looked like a wooden sign of sorts. “Was that always there? I just noticed it.” It was by the edge of where the lake would be, and it definitely had something inscribed on it. If the group came closer, they’d see it quite clearly. “I wonder what does that one mean.” The young woman mused idly. “Do you know anything about it?” It took her an additional second, but then noticed a simple, wooden boat seemingly suspended over where the cloud expanse began. She stared at it with a measure of disbelief for a couple of seconds. “I know I’m repeating myself but… was that one always there?” Geez, it really felt like she was losing her mind. Well, if she hadn’t already by now, that is.

At the moment, their venture had turned into a mixture of feelings. Most of them were related to the idea they should not think too hard about how –not only the landscape but- the physical properties of Joy Island seemed to have changed dramatically. Instead, they had to focus on keeping their sanity and staying safe, as they were now treading in something completely new to them.
“I have no idea…” Katherine mustered some type of answer to Amelie’s inquiry, folding her arms. “As we have progressed, I am not even sure of what anything is made of. The landscape has changed too much and it doesn’t even feel like we’re in the Binary Archipelago anymore. This looks way too different from anything we have seen from this island in the past. One could think this has been the looks of the island the whole time and it was reconditioned for the race but… I sincerely doubt it.” A sigh. All of that only left more questions in the air, right?
After all of the observation process of both their surroundings and the so-called “horizon”, Jazz would contribute with a piece of insight that would probably be useful for the rest of this venture. “I don’t think any of this was ever here.” She shook her head. “And that can probably apply to anything we find from now on.”
Then, the bunny took her attention to the sign Amelie and Katherine were looking at previously. It was Digimoji! She could read this.
“Hyades…” She muttered. “I have no idea of what this means.”
“I believe Hyades is a star cluster. Right?” Katherine’s green eyes shifted towards Amelie, looking for a little knowledge support. The Spaniard knew a bit about astronomy but… it was certainly not one of her strengths. “I have no idea what that can mean in this context.” Were they even interpreting the message right?
Since time was a limited resource, Katherine would approach the boat as they discussed anything related to that sign (in case there was anything to discuss about the sign, that is). She leaned forward to touch it and, basically, test its resistance. Then, she would instruct Jazz to hop in, just to have a general idea of how much weight it could take, and… given how weird this place was, check if it was even real!
Once the necessary inspection had been completed, Kath would turn to Amelie again. “Do you think we should use this to go across? Jazz could turn into Hippogriffomon but… I’m not sure how I feel about traveling through… that sky.” The Spaniard took another look at the yellowish airspace.

Amelie nodded to Katherine’s words. To an extent, she definitely agreed with her. “I’m not sure about that, either. Do you think we’ll get to find that one out?” Maybe, even though that one was a tad dubious; as things stood, the panorama was just a cryptic mess. “I don’t know why, though, but… I think I’m fairly certain that this place’s not Joy Island anymore. Unless it is…?” The truth was certainly uncertain. Then again, trying to make sense out of this was probably a pointless endeavor. Jazz’s answer, similarly, provided valuable insight on the nature of what this… wasn’t. Would trying to rationalize this situation help them in any way? Truly, no way to know. Would the translation of the sign’s contents be of any usefulness for the trio? That was up for debate. “Hyades?” The brunette parroted, borderline unsure of if what she had heard was accurate or not. “That's not a word I expected to hear in this place. But I guess that kinda makes sense.” Did it, really? As Amy uttered those words, a massive red moon loomed on the suddenly clear night sky, above the trio. A casual observer might’ve thought that the satellite was dangerously close —or maybe even about to crash atop them—, yet it placidly followed a slow path across its orbit. “The daughters of Atlas, also known as the dude with one of the most interesting punishments on Greek myth; but I digress. Kinda, the Hyades were the attendants of Dionysus, the god of… excess, for the lack of a better word. Maybe that’s the reason why this place looks like an acid trip gone very wrong.” There was a small problem with that explanation, however. It had pretty much ignored everything Katherine had mentioned regarding astronomy and how a star cluster had the same name as the nymphs. Whoops. “Sorry. I, uh.” The young woman’s behavior became a bit on the erratic side suddenly. She fidgeted with her braid for a moment before speaking again. “It’s the nearest open star cluster, isn’t it? Well, the nearest to Earth. They’re the head of Taurus, the constellation. I have no idea what that can mean here either, though; maybe it’s related to where we’re at the moment? I don’t know…” Despite the amount of knowledge displayed, Amelie wasn’t an astronomist or astrologist, so she seldom knew what those celestial bodies meant, well, except the facts she had exposed, that is. Would they prove to be useful down the line? Probably. Some uneasy steps were taken towards the boat as the other two females proceeded to test its endurance. And, as far as it seemed? It looked like what you’d expect from a vessel that was suspended over water. However… “Wait a minute.” The brunette called out. Reaching into the boat, she retrieved a strange, coin-like item that had bounced slightly after the Lopmon's landing; not very big, and only with one face inscribed with a strange symbol. Amy brought the finding so both Katherine and Jazz could observe it. “What do you think this is?” Considering that the few items they've found thus far all had some kind of purpose, chances were this wouldn't be any different. Giving a deep look at it, the woman sighed a bit nervously. “You don't mind if I keep it for the time being, right? I feel like it could be useful.” Granted, her tone sounded just a wee bit frantic for a second, but that was just a result of their circumstances, right? Nothing too worrisome whatsoever. Nonetheless, she proceeded to board the boat. “I honestly don’t think flying is safe.” Amelie’s words carried some thoughtfulness to it. “You can’t feel it because you’re not on… whatever this place is, but I can feel something like a weird pressure around. I honestly don’t know how this boat can maintain itself afloat.” A small pause followed. “Or if this whole deal is a good idea. Are you sure you wanna do this?” A bit of a silly statement but, somehow, this felt like the point of no return. Who knew what would happen —or if they could go back— once they set sail.

Whether they could eventually find out the truth behind the nature of this place or not was an absolute mystery right now. Through the course of the next few minutes, the situation would turn progressively weirder.
The term that they were debating on right now lingered on two major topics Katherine held reduced knowledge of; astronomy and mythology. Luckily, Amelie seemed to have taken care of the mythology part quite well, exposing some interesting facts Katherine had no full idea of, even if she did hold some partial knowledge about them. “Dionysus…” So, the obvious link between the star cluster name and mythology was that Hyades tutored Dionysus. Calling him the god of excess was pretty accurate, considering it was associated with wine, fertility, and… something else. Something important. “I think I remember hearing Dionysus is somewhat linked to madness and insanity.” The Spaniard added, squinting for a second. That seemed to be the element better tied to this place so far. And that thought was about to be reinforced in Katherine’s head, to boot.
At the moment, it did not seem like they could reach further conclusions from debating about this. Things remained cryptic and strange, as they had started.
“I have no clue… it does not look like anything I’ve seen before.” Katherine shook her head while staring at the strange coin. “It… makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, though. I don’t feel it can bring good things.” The Spaniard shivered a little bit, while Amy pocketed the item. “Sure. Just… keep an eye on it.” Would they have to get rid of that in the future? Katherine could agree it was probably for the best to keep it right now but… there was something strange about Amelie. A sensation that would only increase as the Frenchwoman continued to speak.
Regardless of this, Katherine got in the boat. “How are we supposed to move in this thing?” Jazz inquired, looking for oars, or maybe an engine.
Katherine, on her side, was still a bit concerned about her friend’s words. She tilted her head a bit curious. “What do you mean I’m not on… whatever this place is? Aren’t we both at the same place right now?” What the hell was Amy talking about. “I can feel the same pressure, yes.” She looked around. But that didn’t come solely from the strange conditions of this environment.
“…Again?” Katherine quirked an eyebrow, while Jazz turned to look at the blue-eyed girl, too. “Shisei... Didn’t you already ask us that?” The Lopmon wondered.
“It’s not like you to be this… dubitative.” The raven-haired girl folded her arms. “Are you okay?” In any case, the blue-eyed deserved an answer. “I don’t even know what way we’d have to go if we wanted to return now, or if there’s even a way to do that at this point. So I don’t see any other choice but going forward.” In case Amelie’s fear and doubts were honest (which Katherine was almost 100% was not the case), the green-eyed tried providing some confidence to her friend (something the leader of the Deeplane City Council had never, everneeded). She did this by showing her a sincere smile. “We’ll be fine. Somehow.”

Amy nodded to Katherine’s remark. She was correct regarding Dyonisus’ role regarding insanity. “The rigorous terms are ‘ritual madness’ and ‘religious ecstasy’ if you care about them. Quite the resumé, isn’t it? Dyonisus’ nature as a multifaceted deity is fascinating, but also scary to a degree. At least if you begin to think why would anyone need a god to represent those things.”
Despite how intellectually gifted they were, Greek culture was also renowned for the degree of debauchery it held, but that was probably a topic for another time; or another life, rather. Sure, the pair’s undying curiosity could show some restraint there, right? It was probably a good thing that they didn’t ask a lot of questions regarding the coin, either. For some inexplicable reason, Amelie felt oddly defensive of it. “Don’t worry about that. I’ll take good care of it.”
A quizzical glance followed Curls’ question. “What do you mean how we move this thing? Should be fairly easy.” In an admittedly strange gesture, the young woman took a seemingly formless object at the rim of the vessel and handed it over to her friend. It took form only after being touched by Katherine, becoming a fairly sizable oar that was now on her side of the boat. “With these. Take you’ve used an oar before, right? It isn’t very hard, especially with small ships. I’ll take the other one, so Jazz should be on her guard in case something is lurking around, or something.”
The explanation was followed by a simple shrug. Some things were probably better left as they don’t. “Don’t… worry about it too much. It’s nothing.” Not to say that Curls probably wouldn’t be able to understand what she was talking about, anyway. “I still stand on flying being a less-than-optimal choice though.” Luckily, there was no much discussion on the matter. As things stood, the girls would soon be on their merry way to… whatever was beyond the lake’s haze.
Katherine brought an interesting point to the conversation, however. Was it normal for the brunette to show so much doubt regarding this whole issue? It really wasn’t, yet still she felt the urge to ask these questions. Why could it be? Truth to be told, no way to really know. “Fair enough. I don’t even know why I’m asking these, to be honest. Let’s go ahead; with any luck, we’ll find the answers we seek once we get to that place.”
The smile was returned in kind, and thus, the group began rowing towards their destination. Well, at least initially! The mist was so thick it was hard to see more than a few feet ahead. Heck, Amy was having a hard time discerning Katherine’s shape despite her being literally besides her! “You two still with me, right?”
Getting a response would be mighty hard, and probably not for the reasons everyone expected. Out of the blue, a yellowish flash of light raced towards the vessel, cutting through its rim and threatening to do the same to its occupants. “Careful!” Quickly, Amy managed to duck and avoid the attack, and hopefully her companions would manage to do the same. “Did you see where that came from!?”
As thing stood, bracing for the next attack was next to impossible, at least if it weren’t for the vague appearance of a segmented body approaching the girls’ direction. Could that be their enemy? Not like they had a lot of time to find out, though. Fast action was probably the order of the day.

“Somehow that doesn’t make me feel better” Instinctively, Katherine hid her lips, looking a bit nervous. “'To a degree' is probably a euphemism.” She admitted. No wonder why was a god like that linked to a place like this.
Katherine was sure that keeping the coin close was not a bad idea. That was not to say she was not worried about Amelie's attitude, regarding that coin and everything else. Feeling the person that should be your partner in this adventure was turning into a factor you couldn’t trust was worrying Katherine deeply. Amelie’s cryptic answer regarding what she meant earlier did not help a lot. Neither the fact that she held a strange object knowing it would turn into an oar. “How… did you know that would happen?” Katherine questioned, her eyes shifting towards Jazz for a moment. The Lopmon’s brown irises also went towards her tamer for a second. The pair seemed to be sure the two of them were still… them. But… could they say the same about Amelie?
It was starting to feel they only had each other here.
That nerving reality did not change the fact they had to move forward, so Katherine still took the oar and started working on moving the boat. “I don’t think you keeping secrets from me at a place full of secrets like this can help…” Would these words be of any use? Unlikely. Katherine was slowly getting convinced there was something very wrong with Amelie, and, right now, her mind was only trying to figure out what could be going on with her and the consequences it may have. “With any luck, we will…” The Spaniard sighed.
The time for worrying about the current situation would be scarce, as it was about to shift quickly into something more dangerous. “I am! But I don’t even know where I’m going.” She admitted. “We can’t move through this fog. I can’t see anything.” Jazz noted, too.
These words would almost be interrupted midways as something attacked the group. Thanks to its glowing nature, Katherine was able to move away from the rim to avoid being hit by it. “I didn’t! It moves too fast!” The information was extremely scarce to react properly to the situation. Katherine was completely unsure whether the body approaching them was the same thing that was attacking them, whether it was friend or foe, or even what do to regarding it! Whatever decision she took, would probably be one based on absolutely nothing, since she had no data to know how to properly react to this. So…? Her natural conclusion was that she desperately needed information. Could the price to pay for chasing that be huge? Probably, but not like taking any decision without knowing what was going on couldn’t also bring awful consequences.
Katherine took out her digivice and pointed it towards Jazz. After a glow of light engulfed her, she’d turn into a white, four-legged creature with long wings. Aware of the pressure surrounding them, the beast would stay floating relatively low, only to flutter her wings and release a ray of light that would attempt to dismiss the fog, the darkness, and any visual impediment that couldn’t let them understand what was happening, trying to bring literal clarity into the situation. Although she wouldn’t go against this vague silhouette until she knew what was going on, Jazz would move to stand in the way of the yellow light that could potentially race again against the girls.

After a shrug, Amelie stared quizzically at Katherine. She had been behaving very weirdly ever since they had gotten to this place; it was also worrying that despite this, Curls was the one that constantly commented on the brunette’s ‘weird’ attitude. But… she more or less thought this was warranted, considering their unique set of circumstances.
“What are you talking about, Curls? Know… what would happen? I just passed you the oar. Were you thinking about not receiving it or something? I guess I can ask next time if you want.” All in all, the whole exchange was puzzling, and even if Amy thought about it as a bit on the inane side, there was probably a degree of misinterpretation in the whole deal, even though that probably didn’t matter a whole lot.
Huh, what? Now, the young woman was completely befuddled at what had been an… accusation? It was fair to say that the look that she gave Katherine was almost as if she had grown a spare head. “I don’t know where you got that one, but I’m not keeping any secrets from you at the moment.” There was definitely a quota of disbelief in those words. “What led you to think I was?” There might be a variety of reasons for that, but they remained a mystery for the brunette, especially considering the outrageous claim she had been the victim to.
However, Curls couldn’t really be blamed for that one. This place was treacherous, and whatever strange influence it was holding on them, it probably held on her with particular malice. Luckily, as things stood, the group was advancing steadily towards the unknown structure ahead of them. Or… were they? “I think we’re pulling ahead. If we maintain course, we should be fine, right?”
Well, at least not if someone… or something had other plans. It could be said that a fight had begun, even though it was hard to know against whom. At least temporarily. Jazz and Katherine sprung to action almost instantly, triggering an evolution to Hippogriffmon and… shedding some light on the issue, in a sense. Light World managed to dissipate the haze in the Jazz’s immediate vicinity, clearing out a good portion of the battlefield. So, what was attacking them, exactly?
The first, most striking thing about the digimon’s opponent was a fairly big and long, purplish, hexahedral body, mostly composed of segments like a flatworms, yet in an erect position. A recollection of tendrils sprung from its lower part of the thing’s body, those dividing themselves at their tips. At the body’s crown, a sphere-shaped… “head” rested, crowned by a variety of thick tentacles that ended in a single eye each. There were other miscellaneous appendages populating the being’s body, probably grappling limbs or something of the sort. Finally, two batlike wings carried its massive bulk, letting it move with a fairly high degree of agility.
Such an offending ability immediately caught the assailant’s attention, now fully focused on Jazz’s frame. From some of its many eyes, a concentrated beam was protected in the Hippogriffomon’s direction, fully intending to inflict a fair bit of damage if it collided with her.
The situation was dire, but at least everyone was unscathed, right? Wait a moment. Where was Amelie? While she could be heard before the altercation began, once Jazz’s ability made things clear… she was nowhere to be found. How strange. ??? used Elder Pierce

Nobody liked being called on. After seeing Amelie’s reaction to her words, Katherine started reconsidering her ways. If Amelie (or whatever could be influencing her) could become a problem later on, such thing wouldn’t change by Katherine bringing it up and, if Katherine and Jazz were totally insane and just imagining things while Amelie was actually her normal self, then confrontation couldn’t help them at all in this situation either. With that, the curly-haired girl decided to remain quiet and not drag any of these topics for longer. They should get along as well as they could while the situation allowed it.
It seemed that Jazz using Light World had been a smart move, at least taking into account the results it had brought so far. They could see their surrounding area and the enemy attacking them, which provided a lot more info than they had 10 seconds ago. After spotting the odd creature, Katherine immediately realized she couldn't identify what kind of digimon was their foe. Fair, she didn’t know most of the digimon that existed but… even Jazz seemed puzzled regarding the type of creature they were facing. However, there was a couple of digimon that this thing resembled, a couple of creatures that immediately came to mind.
Heraldmon. Wimon.
Yes. This thing shared some similar traits and overall style with some of Amy’s forms! If it belonged to the same family, Katherine could only wonder if it had the same cognitive and sensorial traits her best friend's forms shared.
When the monster shot an eyebeam to Jazz, the Hippogriffomon attempted to dodge it swiftly. While this form was the quickest Jazz had in her repertoire, the projectile also moved quite fast, managing to scrap one of her wings and making her squeal from pain. As she spun over the boat, she prepared a counterattack, generating a massive whirlwind that charged against the odd creature at full speed. Although the range of this particular technique made it a lot harder to dodge, it would still help Jazz measure the agility of the enemy she was facing.
Katherine, meanwhile, looked around for any other potential enemy that could be approaching them. If this was the only opponent here, it meant the thing that almost hit them earlier was one of its beams and the object approaching them before was the monster itself. That being said… Amy was nowhere to be seen now. How could she have disappeared like this when they were both in such a small boat just some seconds ago? Where did she go?
The Spaniard would remember this.

It seemed like the fight had properly begun. Jazz against an admittedly weird abomination; it was hard to say if anyone was favored in this engagement, given that very detail, but thus far, the two seemed evenly matched. Sure, the monstrosity’s attack had ended near-missing its mark, but it had managed to at least deal damage. Luckily for the Hippogriffmon, this thing not only reminisced Amelie’s own forms and fighting style; just like them it seemed to fight head on, and with little regard to its own safety. The question lingered in the air, however. Was Jazz’s opponent simplistic on their thoughts, or did it hope to overwhelm her through raw aggression before its wounds piled up?
At least for the time being, there was no way to know.
As Katherine scanned her surroundings, she’d find that, at least above the water line, there was absolutely nothing to be found. It was strange, at least until/if she peered down. Under the water, there was definitely movement, even though its murky depths were completely unscrutable to the naked eye. What could be there?
Those movements were undeniably quite violent, though.
Nevertheless, Jazz’s twister managed to hit her opponent dead-on, and even managed to push it back for an instant… until it advanced with renewed vigor and attempted to trash at her mercilessly. Hopefully it wouldn’t catch the Hippogriffmon off-guard! ??? Used Elder Obstruction.

It wasn’t hard to understand why there was something about the overall conditions of this fight that Katherine didn’t like. However, seeing something moving aggressively underwater was not helping the case to stay and fight at all. The Spaniard felt fighting in the middle of nowhere with who-knows-how-many enemies around was certainly not a good idea. But… how to escape?
Katherine shifted her attention to what awaited on the other side of this water body. She desperately needed to know where to find land, preferably not going back to where they were before, if possible. However, the thick mist that engulfed this whole place and the overall strange conditions of this environment were not making this easy. She needed more information, and she needed to get it quick, before the situation complicated a lot further.
Well… this seemed like a good time to start making use of that, again. While the enemy prepared for its next strike, the Spaniard took out a small sleeve-like compartment from a pocket located on the right side of her backpack. From this sleeve, she took out several cards, carefully picking the one she needed.
Making use of a dramatic pose and very elaborated movements she would certainly not repeat each time she used this in the future, Katherine pulled out her D-Arc from her pocket and…
“Card Slash! Lightning Implant!”
Can you imagine the fastest digimon you have ever seen? Well, now imagine that same creature being three times faster. As it has been explained uncountable times by this narrator, Hippogriffomon main, defining trait was its mighty speed, certainly the most notable skill in her kit considering her not-very-interesting ability pack which, except for one or two moves, was fairly weak. However, that speed, that unmatchable agility, had been multiplied by three now.
Is this all of this flavor text to explain why she managed to dodge this thing’s technique unscathed?
Yes. Yes, it is.
Jazz would dodge it using this mighty speed, getting out of the way of that eye beam and taking no damage in the process, if possible.
“I need more info, Jazz! Show me more!”
“You can’t feel it because you’re not on… whatever this place is, but I can feel something like a weird pressure around. I still stand on flying being a less-than-optimal choice though.”
Amelie’s (or whatever that thing was) words resonated inside of Katherine’s head.
“But do not elevate! Stay on water level!”
The Hippogriffomon nodded. With Light World still active and around her, the beast-like digimon would ‘fly’ quickly over the waterline, careful to not gain height at any moment. She would try to quickly look for the edges of this water body, trying to identify if they were in a lake and, most importantly, where was the shore located. How far was Katherine’s boat from this next shore and how long would it take her to get there. Basically, Jazz was on a scouting mission to help them gain perspective and aid Katherine make her next decision.
While Jazz did this, Katherine would constantly shift her green eyes from the horizon to... right next to her. She just... wanted to check if, when Light World distanced from her, something or a certain someone became visible again.
That being said, The Hippogriffomon would make sure to fly back to the center and towards their enemy every now and then to make sure she was still this thing’s target. Hopefully, with such mighty agility, she would be able to keep dodging this thing’s techniques for a little longer. Also, her Hanging Twister was still active so, hopefully, this would help her keep causing damage even while she was not actively using an offensive technique at the moment.

Things were beginning to get fairly interesting in this little engagement, weren’t they? Hippogriffomon, an astoundingly swift digimon in her own right, had managed to become even faster, all in order to perfectly avoid her foe’s attack. In what could be considered a strange development, however, she had decided to forgo taking the offensive in lieu of a scouting venture.
What did she find, then? That they were currently traversing a massive lake. Doing complex calculations in such a short time span was probably not something feasible, even though hazarding a guess would probably throw a number around seven hundred eighty-five thousand square meters. Quite expansive, all things considered. If trying to break through the other end of the lake to its shore, Jazz would find herself bouncing against an invisible force. If trying to land from where they came, there would be no such problem.
If scouting to that extent, however, Jazz would have to neglect paying attention to her current foe. Was that a good idea? It was hard to tell, especially when the bubbling below Katherine’s boat became more and more violent.
Of course, the aberration that was currently fighting Jazz wouldn’t stand there with its tendrils crossed and getting beaten by the twister while the Hippogriffmon had her small outing. Thrusting its tendrils into the waterline, they soon re-emerged as a flurry of sharp stalagmites that pretended to impale anything nearby, whether her opponent or her apparent power source. Both would be optimal, but either would work. ??? Used Elder Thrash.

Now that Jazz’s scouting mission had provided the much-needed results, she had to face the consequences of taking distance from Katherine. The situation had escalated into the monster launching a technique that threatened with damaging everything around them, which was certainly not ideal. Luckily, with the effect of Lighting Implant still on her side, Jazz would be able to keep flying around the lake quite fast. Seven hundred eighty-five thousand square meters meant a radius of approximately 500 meters. How long would take Jazz, with this speed level, to fly half a kilometer back to her original position? Please, she was already there!
The Hippogriffomon would, most likely, be able to avoid any upcoming attack from Elder Thrash while on her way back to Katherine. Furthermore, she would get there in time to tank (if she had to) any of these incoming stalagmites to protect Katherine and the boat. In order to do this, the winged beast tried to use her wings to slap them back, although probably taking enough damage from them to make her squeal. Maybe it wasn’t a direct hit, but it was enough to throw her off balance.
The good thing, at least, was that Jazz now knew where they were and what were their alternatives, at least taking into consideration the information they had. It didn’t look like they had a lot more options than beating this thing. At the moment, it seemed like they could only either go back or cross the lake with their boat, as it didn’t look plausible to get to the other shore by other methods. And, since going back still sounded like a stupid option…
“We’re going to fight, Kath.”
Although the Spaniard didn’t know the details of what Jazz had encountered, she trusted her judgment. So…
“Card Slash! Ex-Veemon!”
She was getting a hang of this!
Once the thrashing had stopped, Jazz was ready for a counterattack. The Hippogriffomon would elevate as high as this environment allowed her to and started fluttering her wings. “Vee Laser!” She shouted, an X-shaped laser being launched straight from her chest and aimed directly at the monster.
But there was more! Behind Jazz, a strange portal would open up, showing the outer space. A portion of our universe filled with colors and glitters. From the Hippogriffomon’s wings, a barrage of clusters of energy, shaped under the traditional conception of a star, would be launched towards the aberration. It was a star shower, spreading through almost the entirety of the lake non-stop and actively targeting the monster. Upon contact, they would explode.
As the water became more unstable by the bubbling, Katherine would hold to the boat as well as she could. Meanwhile, below the vessel, a wisp of fire would start materializing, ready to react to whatever this thing below could do.
Hanging Twister, Vee Laser, and Star Shower. This combo of movements could only be defined as: eat damage, you monster!
——Star Shower: Hipoogriffomon opens her wings widely, where a portion of the outer space can be seen. Upon waving them, star-shaped portions of energy are thrown straight against the opponent, exploding on contact. The star's shower continues for the next turn, where Hippogriffomon will keep shooting stars (unable to use another technique), doing twice as much damage. 2 posts cooldown
-[Ram Upgrade] [Passive ability] Jaenryu: When they are in close-range danger, the fire-dragon spirit living inside of Jazz will raise to protect herself or one of her allies from harm. A burst of fire surrounds the protected target (whether it is Jazz or an ally), burning and scorching anything in contact with them or surrounding them in a one-meter radius. The fire causes no harm to the protected target itself and the intensity of these flames is barely unbearable for a rookie and definitely painful for a Champion. Once Jaenryu has been activated on an ally, it can't be activated on a different ally during the same fight.

As it stood, Jazz was displaying a surprisingly degree of control over the battle. She had seen through the basic nature of her attacker’s abilities and reacted appropriately at them, which ended her in a dominant position for the time being.
The following barrage of attacks would probably epitomize the need to take decisive action before her surroundings gave way to the darkness prior Light World’s activation. As every attack was sent in the aberration’s direction and… losing themselves in the distance, alongside the hypothetical enemy. It was hard to know if any attack had hit the assailant given the lack of illumination in the area, especially considering that anything past a few meters away from the girls’ location was eerily silent.
It was almost as if every attack, plus their assailant itself had vanished in a weird void. Stranger was the fact that no retaliation seemed to come for them, at least for the next several seconds. What had happened, exactly? At least for the time being, that was a fairly big question mark, alongside the stranger being’s—or Amelie’s, for that matter, whereabouts.
Was it a momoment of respite, or was it foretelling something worse in the horizon? At least for now, there was no way to know. ??? Used ???

After this frenzy encounter, some moments of peace would be gladly welcomed by Katherine and Jazz. Some real moments of peace, at least. Having darkness surrounding them completely, these couldn’t be perceived as real tranquility, as the pair remained completely unaware of the monster’s current whereabouts. The same could be said about Amelie, although Katherine continued making sure her friend hadn’t popped back in the boat now that Light World was gone.
Sadly, Jazz couldn’t use Light World again to bring literal clarity into the situation. The momentum of the technique she had used would keep making her shoot stars for the time being. Unable to do anything else, she was going to, at the very least, make the best out of it.
The Hippogriffomon stayed as high as she could and kept shooting that barrage of stars (which, in case of hitting anything, would cause double the damage than before) while spinning around her own axis, kind of like a beacon of energy, combing the whole area and shooting exploding stars to whatever was close to them or tried to approach them. Naturally, if something happened to come out from the water below them, she would redirect her attack as necessary.
If given the chance, Katherine would use this time to look and touch the surface of the boat she was standing on. She was probing, both studying the actual nature of the vessel carrying them and looking for any item Amelie could have left when fading away. Were the oars still there? If whatever she had touched had turned into an oar before, could it turn into something else? Could the vessel, even, turn into something entirely different?
Even if these seemed like the quizzical wonders of a desperate Spaniard, they were actually real questions that she was trying to answer by just attempting different things.
Just like being Amelie’s friend, this was more experimental than anything.

Jazz’s blanket bombardment would serve as a temporary deterrent in case any possible counterattack occurred. Or, worst case, as a sort of pre-emptive strike in case it was ignored. Both would be solid outcomes, even though what would happen would be slightly different.
Katherine’s experiment would bring her some certainties, even though that was probably not what she was looking for, exactly; as far as it could be seen, everything around her was what it seemed and wasn’t showing any signs of change. At least when it came to the vessel, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
The water below her, however? That was an entirely different story. The suddenly violent currents threatened to capsize the boat under their sheer pressure, just as with the emergence of what had been their opponent up to this point. Jazz’s attack impacted on it head on, but it didn’t seem like it was something that’d deter it from decisively striking at Katherine’s position. Or… would it? From one moment to the next, the aberration seemed to be frozen in its place, before it could finish the motion of the attack it had prepared. At least at plain sight, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to strike.
Could this enemy be thrashing against something silently helding it back? Or was there… something else? The situation had taken a conspicuous turn, even though it was only on Katherine and Jazz to determine what the next move would be. ??? got interrupted.
