"That movie was so dumb."
It was around seven o'clock in Shibuya as two middle school students, Luneth Kanzaki and Kaya Matsui, made their way out of a cinema in the Entertainment District. The two of them were on a simple friendly outing together, since they were best friends. For the occasion, Luneth was dressed in a nice red suit jacket with a white collared shirt, black jeans and white tennis shoes, while Kaya was wearing a denim jacket over her usual attire of an orange long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and black boots.
Luneth continued talking about the movie as the two walked down the street. "I mean, the entire message of the movie was about trust, right? But there was literally no reason for her to trust anyone, especially not the girl that betrayed her multiple times AND killed her friend, so why did she trust HER to save the world?"
"Sometimes you just don't need a reason to trust someone," Kaya replied, "I like to think of it as either trusting someone you don't want to, or giving up entirely. At least with the trust option there's a chance that everything will turn alright in the end. I'd much prefer a 50/50 chance in everything working out than a one hundred percent chance at everything going wrong."
"I suppose so... it just didn't feel earned in my opinion." The two would continue to talk to each other as they headed home together after a fun outing. However, if a passerby were to be watching them walk down the street they would see two middle-schoolers walking together, then... nothing. The middle schoolers had seemingly just vanished into thin air. What could've happened to them?
Well unbeknownst to the kids at the time, they had just walked into a Digital Shift, a very specific Digital Shift for them. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first as they walked, but eventually Kaya would be the one to first notice that something was up. "Um, Luneth... I don't see any cars around here. Or... people, for that matter." Kaya was right, the streets were absolutely barren, which was not normal for this area of Tokyo. Luneth and Kaya stopped in their tracks as they took in their surroundings a bit more.
"You're right... there's no one here. Come on, we need to go back," Luneth suggested as he and Kaya turned around... but while there was no one before, now there was one person at least twelve feet away from them right now.
It was a humanoid figure, but based on the way he was dressed it was hard to tell if he was a human or Digimon. He was dressed in a light grey business suit with a light green button-down shirt seen underneath, along with black gloves and loafers. But that wasn't the weirdest part about him; it was the fact that he was wearing a white helmet with a single solid black visor, with what looked like the king piece of a chess set resting on top of the helmet.
Kaya was definitely in no mood for this. "Who are you?" Kaya called out to him. No response. The man held his hands behind his back, taking a step closer. "Who are you?!" Kaya repeated. No response. Another step. "Where is everyone?!" No answer. Even more steps; he was approaching them now.
Kaya was getting scared by this point, stepping in front of Luneth to protect him. "Stay away from us!" Kaya warned. The man just picked up the pace. Kaya was breathing heavily, she didn't know what was going on. "I MEAN IT, STAY BACK!" she yelled. Once again, the man didn't listen, and he was getting closer. Panicking even more, the young girl pulled out her Digivice and extended it out in front of her. "Hawkeye, real-"
It was too late; the man had gotten close up and smacked the Digivice away, sending it to collide with a nearby wall. Kaya's eyes widened as she ran over to retrieve her Digivice, but she was suddenly grabbed by this scary man by the wrist. He aggresively pulled her over closer to himself and warned, "I would prefer not to hurt you. Grab your Digivice again, and that will be the worst mistake of your life." He would then forcefully shove Kaya into the wall, causing her to collapse onto the ground as she leaned against the wall trying to get her breath back.
"You bastard!" Luneth yelled as he began to throw a punch at the masked man in an act of vengeance. Sadly he overshot the punch, allowing the masked man to step to the side to avoid only to counter by kicking behind Luneth's knee, causing him to scream and fall face-first.
"Lu...Luneth..." Kaya grunted, still trying to regain her strength.
Still collapsed on the sidewalk, Luneth turned his head backwards to look at this masked man, who had now placed his foot on top of him. "Who... are you...?"
"You can call me 'The Grandmaster,'" the man simply responded, rolling Luneth belly-up with his foot. He reached into his inner suit pocket and pulled out what looked like a metal hilt. He pressed a button on the hilt which caused a sword-length blade to pop out of it. Kaya's fear instantly rose... she knew what he was gonna do.
"No... no... no, nOT LUNETH, DON'T HURT HIM-"
It was too late. The Grandmaster thrusted the blade downward and stabbed Luneth right in the middle. The disguised Digimon's holosuit immediately deactivated, revealing his Hackmon form. "NOOOOOO!!!" Kaya cried even more, tears flowing down her face. The cloaked dragon loudly cried out in pain as glowing data-like blood floated out from his wound. Grandmaster pulled his sword out.
"This sword is made from Chrome Digizoid," Grandmaster explained. "I was lucky you decided to stick to your rookie form, otherwise this sword would've deactivated your holosuit but left you more or less unharmed."
"You... sick bastard..." Luneth managed to croak out. This was met with another stab from Grandmaster's sword, which caused the Hackmon to scream even more.
"While I do have a solid reason for doing this... you have no idea how long I've waited to do this to a Digimon. So I'm going to enjoy this moment for a little longer..." Grandmaster would then continue to relentlessly stab and slash at Luneth in many more areas, each contact the sword made causing more data to flow from his body. Luneth was in absolute pain, and Kaya just watched, far too terrified to do anything to help, and at this point not even phased to find out that her best friend was a Digimon!
"STOP IT!!!" Kaya pleaded. "STOP IT, PLEASE! STOP HURTING HIM!!!"
By the end of it all, Luneth looked as if he had at least one foot in the grave. His wounds continued to leak his precious blood data, and the pain was immeasurable. Grandmaster had finally had enough of his fun and put away his sword. "I only needed to slash at you once to get what I needed," he explained as he pulled out another science-y device from his pocket, pressing a button on it to absorb the data that flowed into the air before it got deleted within the device itself. "This should be enough," he eventually said, turning to walk away and leave the two helpless kids there. Kaya crawled over to Luneth, tears falling down her face... her friend looked as good as dead!
"Oh my god, Luneth... Grandmaster, why... why would you do something like this?!" Kaya called out to him. He would then stop walking, not even turning his head to give Kaya a straight answer.
"It is what has to be done for the era of Digimon to come to end. You'll thank me later." A portal appeared in front of Grandmaster, allowing him to walk through it and leave the area entirely. Meanwhile Kaya panicked as she looked down at the dying Hackmon, completely unsure as of what to do next.
"I... I gotta call Adrian...!"
After some time, Adrian and Shoutmon had both managed to pinpoint Kaya's location after getting the call from her. They entered the Digital Shift to see Kaya kneeling beside a blue-eyed Hackmon who looked as if he was stabbed repeatedly.
"LUNETH!" Shoutmon cried, immediately recognizing the Hackmon as his son. Both he and Adrian would join Kaya in kneeling around him. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god... bud! Hey, buddy! Luneth! Please answer me!" Tears were starting to fall down his face as well.
"Fa... Father...?" Luneth asked, barely able to open his eyes. "Is that you, Father?"
"It's me, bud, it's me," Shoutmon said, trying to hold back his tears as he embraced Luneth. "Adrian's here too, everything's going to be alright! What happened to you?!"
"We were... attacked..." Luneth started to say, his voice growing weaker. "Human... named Grandmaster..."
"Grandmaster? Who is Grandmaster?!"
"I'm... sorry, Father... I wasn't strong enough... I'm sorry that I... disrespected you..." was all Luneth managed to say before he shut his eyes once again, losing consciousness.
"Luneth... no, please no, Luneth..." Shoutmon pleaded, unable to stop the waterfall tears from running down his face. "WHO DID THIS TO MY SON?!?!?!"
Both Adrian and Kaya were at a loss for words at this point... who wouldn't be in a situation like this? All of them were friends and family of Luneth's, so to see him... see him like this... "Adrian, call Skye right away, she's a healer, if she can't save him nobody can! Call every healer you can think of!!!"
"R-Right," Adrian said, pulling out his D-Terminal and quickly messaging Skye along with every other healer he knew about the situation at hand. Meanwhile Kaya grabbed her Digivice and pulled out her own D-Terminal as she messaged a healer that she herself knew... Luna the Lunamon. Surely someone would be able to answer their call for help?
