Insofar, things had gone slow for the ground-team group on their little search. At least to pass the time to keep her sanity in check, Skadi would oftentimes kick a pebble across the ground like a tiny soccer ball, and once that pebble had disappeared, she'd just find another pebble instead, and that process would start anew. But Kenny? Well, interestingly enough, during their little search, Hana would take the time to inquire with them about KIZNA.
He'd be happy to answer... if not for their sudden discovery over that odd, suspiciously perfect circular hole in the ground right in front of it, that made them stop in place. Not even a simple sweep of the flashlight would be enough to see what was inside the hole. And that was enough to raise a few eyebrows already. Skadi was already taking a brief moment to peer inside it, "...that's not right, I can't see a single thing down there."
"Either this must be the entrance or they're just trying to throw us off with possible red herrings like that." It was a mere wild guess on Kenny's part. Neither were exactly too willing to just toss themselves down the hole willy-nilly and hope for the best. Neither could fly without assistance, and only God, Buddha and Arceus knew how deep that hole was if they decided to jump in.
Thankfully, Hana had a willing Rush on hand.
Much to the duo's alarm, however, he somehow managed to bring 'a new friend', in the form of a Pegasusmon X, alongside them. For a brief moment, the duo would simply pause for a good moment, before the young man would look at the Eosmon with concern and confusion, "Rush, where the heck did you find 'your new friend', exactly?" He simply asked.
That would be the least of his problems.
Now Rush was just casually throwing himself into the hole like it was a high dive into the local swimming pool. Again, the two could only stare in surprise as he seemingly quickly got swallowed up by the darkness inside, just leaving the Canandenmon agape in place. Another moment of stunned silence later, and Kenny would just pull out the walkie-talkie.
"Uh, Rush, you OK?"

... Did Rush seriously just do that?
As the group reconvened at the point of interest, the Mistymon couldn't help but blink at the Eosmon's sheer enthusiasm, which was followed by the sorcerer planting his palm against his forehead. Kenny's question was well-warranted, but the Mistymon would give his response first, reaching an arm right down into the hole - grasping around the Eosmon's arm - and hoisting him right back up.
"Right, even if its a hole that we can't see the bottom of, that doesn't mean the shape of the hole is consistent. Let's try and not add 'accidental decapitation' to our danger list, here?" One bad catch, with the assistance of gravity, would have made that turn out a lot different than it had - catching his shoulders on a narrower part of the cave was a lucky catch! As for Cion's question, the Mistymon would pull up his walkie-talkie. "Go ahead and meet up with us, I think we have our lead."
After all, this was it. The light burn, the deep narrow hole - the Mistymon tapped his foot against the ground. His attention would soon be on the approaching Cion. "This spot around here - anything look unique about it from above?" On the ground level, it was difficult to tell - but if the Arniomon explained it as she saw it from above?
The Mistymon would have an idea.
"Hm... then this whole place is a weak point, right?" The Mistymon would step up, floating off of the ground. "Let's just speed up nature's process. If we strike the rock next to where the hole is, the whole plate should crack right on through. Messy, but from how it sounds, I think this whole sheet's only a meter or two thick, at best."
Still, it was going to take a good bit of firepower to get it to budge!

It is good to be cautious in a situation like this, but you do not have to be concerned as I am not your enemy. I merely came out to investigate this pillar of my own volition when I encountered your friend. Chiron telepathically told the group. I will lend you my aid as we investigate this anomaly together.
Rush would pout when the Mistymon caught his arm, which looked rather adorable on the robotic, fairy-like digimon. "AW, MAAAAAN. WHY'D YOU HAVE TO SPOIL MY FUN?"
"There is a difference between fun and reckless stupidity, and jumping down an mysterious hole lands firmly in the latter category." Data sternly told his brother as he crossed his arms. Meanwhile, Hana was internally freaking out over Rush's recklessness to the point that she had basically frozen up. "Honestly, why does it seem like I inherited almost all of our collective brainpower when we split?"
The Mistymon's plan to smash through the rock did catch the Guardromon's attention, though. "How do you want to try and break through the rock? My Kenkimon form could possibly be able to dig through the rock, more my brother and I can DNA Digivolve to our Mega form. ShadowDurandamon should have an attack or two capable of smashing through the rock."

With the confirmation at hand and potentially at lead at their disposal, Cion returned with steady yet gracious steps. There was no reason to rush given the short trip, and perhaps being less ostentatious would be beneficial in the long term. As attentive and cautious as she was, there was always the possibility that hostile forces were anticipating them. Such foes could be surrounding them, or waiting for them beneath the surface of the Earth. Maybe there was nothing at all except the incandescent pillar and ancient structures, but there was no point in tempting fate further.
Naturally, she provided every piece of vague intel that she had gathered. As the Mistymon said, if this area was akin to an organic wound, then it was likely one gargantuan weak spot that they had the option to exploit. Brute force was a method they had available, but was the wisest path to take? In the end, they did not know the true nature of what resided among the depths - be it entities, relics or brittle remnants. Though, as their guide ascended ever so slightly, it appeared that the choice had already been made, which was fair enough.
With suggestions voiced, the unassuming fennec eventually raised her paw as to provide her own input. "Like a human laceration, I could burst this earthy scar wide open in one fell swoop. I'd advise a safety distance however." She stated, her dulcet voice with a mostly matter-of-fact inflection. It was not becoming for a proper lady to brag, but that did not mean that she did not offer her contribution to this undertaking. Her approach lacked aforementioned subtlety, but it was utilizable if desired.

Normally, Kenny was not one to judge others, especially those he just met, but already Rush was starting to raise a lot more questions than answers through his sheer unconventional behaviours; from that Pegasusmon X he somehow managed to convince to join the group without much prompt, to his sudden swan dive into the mysterious hole, only stopped by the Mistymon's brief intervention.
Needless to say, it'd still take a bit to get Skadi out of her briefly shocked state, while Kenny would nod in agreement with Data, "He's right. We need all the help we can get. But the matter-of-fact is that we just don't know what's inside there, and I don't want anyone there to lose any appendages just to find out. For all we know, there could be a massive Digimon out there that could kill us all just by looking at us funny."
That was just mere spitballing on his end. But right now, their concern focused on that hole in question, and just how'd they break through it. And while both Data and Cion had a good idea on how they'd do it, Skadi wasn't one to leave her suggestions off the table, "I could just simply summon a massive boulder out of nowhere to smash through the hole right here and now. Saves us all the time, trouble, and the mess, may I add."
Yet, Kenny remained concerned, raising his hand to get the attention of the rest of the group, "Not to downplay and or trash any of your ideas, but I think we should try and avoid drawing attention to ourselves here, lest we run afoul of anything that would rather us not be poking our heads in where they think we shouldn't." He'd be quick to point out to the rest. Any unwarranted attention coming from a group of powerful Digimon all aiming to outright decimate what looked to be an ordinary hole to the average outsider would not be fun to deal with, especially not in this state.
That being said, "Honestly, Data? I think your Kenkimon form here would be best for the job, mainly because you could easily just shovel up the dirt, and that we'd come off as ordinary archaeologists, not a group of jackasses who go around blowing stuff up for shits and giggles."
Skadi fell silent, "Well, I can't argue with that logic."

Enthusiasm aside, Skadi had a point: for both subtlety and for providing the 'correct' tools of the trade, it was best to use the Digimon literally designed as excavating equipment. "Honestly, if I knew that was an option at the start, I would have just ran with it. Kenkimon it is, though be careful. There's still a chance that the sheet will fragment down the middle. If you're 'fragile', I suggest that you watch from the upper cliff."
With that, well, it would take more total time, but they would set to work breaking through the rock. As the Kenkimon excavated, widening the space around the hole, Mistymon would encourage those 'durable' subjects - including himself - to assist in moving the larger pieces of rock where even the Kenkimon may have struggled. It took a while, and there was a moment or two where the entire plate felt like it was about to creak and give way, but with one more push of the shovel, the remaining rock would be pushed down instead of shoveled on up. And with the hole wider, sun hanging somewhat overhead, the group was able to see some sort of surface, way down in that uncovered cavern.
"Alright, smaller forms, people." The Mistymon would lead, tagging the back of anyone who couldn't naturally fly or 'float' with his palm, a green aura radiating around them. "A simple slow-fall spell. Follow right along with me." And with that, the sorcerer would step off, falling right down into the cavern with the rest of them. As Cion had seen before, this place was the remnant of a large desert oasis.
As the group settled in on a rocky platform, the Mistymon would raise up a palm, a ball of light illuminating the space around them. Though the surface had long dried out, the underground well had not: sounds of water dripping from the ceiling pitter-pattered around them, falling into crystal-clear pools of water below. This place was a natural cavern, a freshwater well that, if tapped, could be invaluable to the desert around them.
... Hardly here nor there for their objective, though. The Mistymon pointed towards the walls, illuminating it with a light - revealing a dull gray color on the top, and a bluish, 'damp' color below. "Right there. Something opened up, and drained the water down underneath... so this should be easy enough to find..." A minute or so of checking the area would find a quite-obvious answer:
A clean-cut, square hole in the stone was just off to their right. Shining a light downwards would show that the stairs were slick with water, and led into a pitch-black darkness below. This appearance, Skadi and Kenny might have at least been somewhat familiar with.
The Mistymon issued caution: "There's potential that there's parts of this place that are entirely underwater. Going around the darkness like this, it'll be trickier than you think to find a place to surface for air, if it comes to it. Well... maybe it all pooled at the bottom, anyway. Who wants to lead?"

"We did mention my Kenkimon form earlier, though... ah, whatever. It's not important." Data said, before Hana armor digivolved him into said Kenkimon form. The rock crackled ominously beneath his weight, but ultimately seemed to hold up. "Alright, you guys might want to stand back."
Hana would back up to give him space as he began excavating through the dirt and rock. Data certainly appreciated the help the others gave him in breaking up and moving some of the larger rocks. Before long, the hole had been opened enough for everyone to b able to descend into the cavern. Data reverted back to his Guardromon and used his thrusters to slowly allow him to descend into the hole with everyone else, while Hana and rush hitched a ride on Chiron's back.
The Mistymon would point out that the cave appeared to have been drained of water recently, before asking if anyone wanted to volunteer to take the lead.
"OH, OH! I'D BE GOOD FOR THAT!" Rush said as he raised his hand and hopped up and down excitedly. He would then crack his knuckles before using his Mirror Reflection ability to make two clones of himself that he sent off to scout ahead. "AND THERE WE GO. TWO DISPOSABLE CLONES TO CHECK FOR DANGEROUS TRAPS AND STUFF."
I believe I shall head back to the surface to ensure no one follows after you. Chiron telepathically told the group before he flew back up the hole the e group came through. Chiron has left the party.

Subtlety was the name of the game then, which was perfectly fine by Cion. Though admittedly enjoying unleashing a surge of raw force at something, or against specific someones, she knew that this undertaking was not about her. Besides, she had a way of being useful that did not involve detonations. With the excavation in progress, she would move any debris and soil out of the way with the expedient power of her mind. A couple tons of detritus were hardly straining her, and thus the group was finished with their stopover before long.
As they descended into the dark depths, the silver fennec was caught off guard by the darkened sight that revealed itself. It was the remnant of an underground oasis, not unlike the above-ground one in the desert. Was this the pillar's doing, or perhaps the legacy of precursors? And what was its purpose? There were many ideas and hypotheses that could be made, but without solid evidence there was barely a point in contemplating them. Instead, she savored the seemingly natural beauty around them and focused on her surroundings. After all, they still did not have the slightest clue of what awaited them, hence caution was advised.
Confident that following the marks of erosion would lead them to their intended destination, finding the apparently artificial waterway did not claim much time. Beyond was another piece of well-nigh pure darkness, which was almost disappointing. At this point, the unassuming fox had expected something more than that. Folding her arms, she listened calmly to their guide, who raised an excellent argument. Maybe the areas deeper into this cavern were flooded. As clones were sent out with a distinct lack of consultation with the team, she tilted her head towards the Mistymon.
"If a temporary leader is still needed, then I volunteer. Effectively I can make myself not need air, so water is not an issue. Besides... I'm fast and equipped with defensive abilities if there should be a cave-in, trap of hostile entity." Cion suggested and explained in a calm and composed manner. As always, the vulpine lady was not imposing herself on their working party and merely offered assistance to the problems at hand. If they had a better solution then by all means they should go with it.

Obviously, a simple, no frills, solution would practically win the group over. It may not have been the most dramatic, or the most eyecatching technique out there, but the Kenkimon would help to make quick work of the hole, with Skadi, briefly shifting into her Markhormon form, chipping away at the more stubborn rocks with the end of her great sword to ensure it would budge and break apart, and make it way easier for Data to dig through it.
By not too long, the hole would be wide enough for them to easily get through - at least, if they could fly. On the Mistymon's word, Skadi would shift back to her base Valaismon form, before she, along with Kenny, would let out a brief yelp on the molten mage's mere touch on the back. But otherwise? No trouble whatsoever. The aforementioned 'slow fall spell' would work as expected, as the two would slowly descend into the depths below...
By the time they reached the ground, chills could be felt running up the young man's spine, as he glanced around eerie cavern, as he twisted his trusty hand-me-down torch to life, "This place feels a little... too quiet." He muttered as he looked towards the walls, then towards the stairs. Immediately, memories of the intrusion of the tower, and HiAndromon's domain, came rushing back to the both of them... and an odd feeling would just pang inside Skadi.
"Ohhh, I do not like the looks of this..." She uttered as she gazed at the staircase. The last time around, the room down below would host a pair of Mugendramon that barely went down without a fight. Who knew what they held this time around?
With both Rush summoning a pair of self-described 'disposable' clones to lead the way and Cion taking the reins as a 'temporary leader', this just left our duo with a simple role, if Skadi quickly raising her hand to attract the Mistymon's attention told them anything, "Well, I think we could trail behind and serve as backup if needed," Skadi pointed out, "Just in case things go wrong? Or we get ambushed from behind?"
That was the most logical conclusion here, at least to them; the literal flying fox would potentially be taking care of any massive threats directly, while Rush's clones were willing to sniff out the traps. At least some backup defence wouldn't hurt had things gone south.
Just a hunch.

Communication could have been cleaner, but the group threw together a good plan! Rush's clones would go forward ahead as a scouting group. Cion would lead, while Kenny and Skadi would work as the group's anchor.
"Works for me. Hopefully our formation remains a precaution." The Mistymon would offer one more piece of advice past that: "With Cion leading, we should be able to rely on her ambient light. Don't be afraid to use the flashlights, but be careful when using them to look around corners. The light is much more noticeable, and may be perceived as a direct threat."
With that, the group would be able to make their way down the stairs proper. Those with their feet on the ground would feel that the steps were made of stone, and were similar in texture to the rock that made up the base of the lake above. Luminescent lichen was caked onto the walls, remnants of the plant life that once existed in the ancient lake. An ecologist or a historian would be ecstatic to have a chance to see this place.
Perhaps not-so-much the group at hand. As they would make their way down those winding stairs, the group would eventually make their way to the bottom, and be greeted, immediately, by two (X) Divermon. Their spears were drawn, pointed towards the two Eosmon clones who had rushed down here first.
"Get out!"
"Leave!"
The phrases were short and rough, and the Divermon themselves didn't look out of place in this derelict cavern. Their suits were faded, claws gnarled, and spears rusted through. The stairs spilled out to a lower floor, much like Skadi and Kenny had seen before, but that was about where the similarities ended. Oddly shaped crystal lanterns lined the walls, half covered in deep layers of moss that crept up around the walls. Makeshift hooks protruded through the moss on the walls, freshly caught cave fish gasping for breath.
These two Divermon weren't guardians, or even explorers that got here first - or if they were, they had arrived years prior. "Natives?" The Mistymon was cautious. Towards the far end of the 'room', at the other end of the clearing, was the way down - completely flooded out, a half-inch of water even on the surface below them.
And, as the rest of the group arrived, one of the Divermon shifted their focus to the group.
"It stirs, it stirs, and the outside comes in. The outside is not welcome!" The Divermon didn't strike, but clearly did not like so many intruding on their home at once! "You go back!"

Hana nodded at the group's makeshift plan as they continued exploring deeper into the cavern. The sight of the cavern walls was actually beautiful enough that Hana wished that she had a working camera right now. It wouldn't take long until the group came across the two clones rush had sent out earlier, being held at spearpoint by a pair of Divermon.
The two Eosmon clones looked at each other in confusion as the Divermons pointed their spears at them. When the Divermons pointed out that the other members of the team had shown up, the clones just shrugged at each other as they simply dispelled themselves.
"I'm afraid that this situation isn't so simple. we cannot leave until we accomplish our mission and find whatever is causing these pillars of light." Data tried to explain to the Divermons in an attempt to pacify them. "Once we find what we're looking for, we'll leave you alone to continue on with your day."
"OR IF YOU REALLY WANT US TO LEAVE SOONER, THE TWO OF YOU COULD HELP US FIND WHAT'S MAKING THE PILLARS. YOU TWO SEEM LIKE YOU MIGHT KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR." Rush chimed in as he raised his hands in a non-threatening manner. Mirror Reflection CD: 0/2

With the ambient light provided, traversing the subterranean pathways was as easy as setting one foot in front of the other. This location was ancient, artificial yet oddly natural. Whoever crafted this knew how to combine architecture with its surroundings. Was it perhaps a lost civilization or virtuosos, or simply an enigmatic machine like the white pillars? Even then, for what purpose? Was it not more sensible to build above the surface and not beneath? Just looking at Terminus made the difference between these approach clear. Alas, there was maybe no answer left for this conundrum.
Speaking of which, the two well-nigh feral savages that had taken residence in this cavernous darkness were quite the problem they had to face. Well... to be frank not really. What were they - mere Ultimates? Besides, their equipment looked time-worn, as did their physique. It was almost a surprise to the silver fennec that they could speak. They were out of their element, literally so, thus presumably trivial to overcome in a clash. However, as to be expected, this was not a course of action that her allies were willing to take initially.
Sighing softly, Cion stayed quiet and merely stared at the tip of the rusty spears with a cold, blank expression. With the holograms disappearing, the girl and her partner attempted diplomacy. Quaint, if not slightly adorable - supposably worth a shot. Nonetheless, she wondered what these bipedal fishes were thinking. Were they not aware that they were hopelessly outmatched? Or was it possible that they did not care, or that they had no choice from their point of view? "Hmm..."

Duly noted. If anything, both Kenny and Skadi would opt to point the flashlights closer to the floor, and avoid shining a light onto any figures that may have indeed perceived these lights as a threat. Otherwise? The two would merely follow along down the stairways behind the Mistymon and co., the young man quietly taking in deep breaths to keep his head cool for whatever laid ahead.
'Get out'? 'Leave'? Their attention was now drawn to the two Hangyomon at the bottom, aiming their spears in warning towards Rush's clones. Yet, their behaviour, especially towards the group, already seemingly outmatched in both power and numbers alone, raised a few red flags. "I think so. They look a little... frightened." Kenny would merely mutter in response to the Magic Warrior Digimon.
And that brief theory looked to be all too correct as they came in with the others, briefly ranting about 'the outside'. The message was all but clear; they were intruding onto their home, and inadvertently threatened their way of life by merely showing up. Even if they knew they were horribly outmatched, both Kenny and Skadi had a good hunch that the moment things went south, the two would lash out, ready to put everything on the line to defend their home.
While Data and Rush attempted to explain themselves to the rusted Hangyomon, a thought came into Skadi's head; how could they prove to them that they weren't going to harm them? To give them that metaphorical olive branch to show they were willing to work with them, and not against? She'd simply nudge Kenny for a brief moment to grab his attention, "Kenny, you got some of that onigiri on you?"
It clicked. A piece of cheap onigiri was, more often than not, that metaphorical olive branch they were looking for to ensure a peaceful resolution with otherwise hostile and/or frightened Digimon. Just ask Nise Agumon Hakase back in Golden Week, or Kitt when he was inducted into KIZNA. Smiling, the tamer would quickly dig through the Infini-Store to pull out two packets of fresh, cold tuna onigiri and handed it to her, with a simple pat on the back, "Knock 'em out, girl." He whispered.
With a brief, but confident, nod, the Valaismon would make her way in front of Data and Rush, the onigiri in hand for the Hangyomon to take, no questions asked, "Look, I know the both of you may seem a little... alarmed by our presence, but we're not going to hurt you. Like my friends said, we're only here to stop the pillars, not to destroy your life." She'd hold out the rice balls for Hangyomon to see, "We brought you some snacks, too. You don't have to fear us. We'll help you in any way we can. Just please don't hurt us."
It was a bit of a gamble, but there was a sound of genuine sincerity in Skadi's voice.

Though the message was generally the same, two very different approaches were given in response to the Divermon: Data and Rush's attempt to explain the situation, and Skadi's attempt to talk with them directly.
To the former, the Divermon were not impressed. 'Accomplish our mission', 'Leave you alone'? The already tense aqua Digimon didn't appreciate being talked down to, of all things! "No, you disturb!"
"You take! You take!"
"As expected..." The Mistymon took a cautious step backwards, keeping his tone low enough that it only reached the back of the group. "I'd truly rather not force the matter here. Its hard to tell whether these two are loners, or forward guards - that, and we are truly the aggressors here."
With Cion remaining an observer, the next attempt came from Skadi, who offered the two Divermon... rice balls? It was uncertain if the fish were even listening to Skadi's word, as one took a careful step in, giving the rice a sniff, taking the food in hand with a curious gaze. The other, a tad more cautious, stretched out a hand to slowly take it, snapping the arm right back as he took it.
... No threat? No trap? "You... give?" That second Divermon seemed almost astonished at the fact, giving his partner a glance, the second returning a nod.
"Our master is below. She slept. Peaceful for years."
"The light came. The light disturbed her."
"Roused her, awoke her. She cried that 'it was undone!'"
"She flooded home." The Divermon pointed to the flooded staircase. "Said it must be protected."
"You go," the Divermon warned, "and master will judge."
"... No less cryptic, but it appears they'll let us go on ourselves, at least." The Mistymon sighed, shaking his head. "Not that I understand their warning."

"Well, once again it seems that my brother and I aren't very good at diplomacy." Data said with a sigh. "Although, I do think I have a rough idea of what they're trying to warn us about, at least. I believe that their "master" had something sealed down here, and flooded the cavern to try and keep whatever was sealed here from getting loose when the seal came undone. Whether the light pillar is what broke the seal, or merely a sign that it was broken, I have no clue."
"YEAH, I THINK THAT THEIR MASTER IS GONNA GIVE US A TEST OR SOMETHING. IF WE FAIL, THEN SHE'S PROBABLY GONNA TRY AND STOP US FROM GOING ANY FURTHER." Rush added as he tapped his chin in thought. "PROOOBABLY BEST IF MY BRO AND I KEEP OUR MOUTHS SHUT FOR THIS ONE."
"Yeah, that's fair." Hana added quietly. She was definitely nervous about what could be waiting down below the flooded staircase. "So, what's our plan going to be for when we go down into the flooded area?"
