Posts for both, please! In the previous chapter, our two heroines braved the deadliest of perils in order to complete their ultimate quest. To avoid boredom. It was a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but some of those perils might’ve been a bit on the self-inflicted side. For example, Manami herself had committed grand theft auto and Kurumi had not done a lot to stop her; but at least that had happened for more than justifiable reasons! Risking angering a digimon with what could be interpreted as an unpredictable temper was probably as dangerous, if not more than the possibility of being labeled as an accomplice of a criminal act. Sides, what could go wrong? As far as it could be seen, the disguised digimon was having the time of her life. So much that music was blasting at full volume, in fact. “You know. I understand why humans like cars so much now. This is fun.” It was true that she could achieve the same, or better said, way higher speeds on her own, but piloting a contraption and being tenuously shackled by the groundwork laid by inferior creatures certainly had its quota of exhilaration. Not something to do every day, but as an occasional activity, it was more than okay. “Where should I go? I don’t know what this city is like at all!” Obvious question incoming. Truth to be told, Manami hadn’t thought much about that, but she didn’t feel like she needed to. She could always delegate to Rumi when necessary! It had worked thus far, and changing a tried and true formula seemed like a lot of hassle. However, it seemed like it was time to improvise a little! The faint sound of sirens blaring at the distance became louder and louder as time passed by, and that unmistakably meant that the police were after them, and not somebody else! There was a small problem with that assumption, though. “Say, Ru-Ru.” The female asked casually as the car sped up a bit. “What’s that sound supposed to mean? Are Guardromons nearby or something?” Yep. The problem was that she couldn’t quite confirm what was happening! Only thing that remotely had sirens in the Digital World were the aforementioned digimon’s Destruction Grenades. But, somehow, she doubted that was the case over here.

Posts (x2) also, please!
Admittedly, today was probably one of the more exciting days in Rumi's life. So far, the duo had been absorbed in a video game, won the game, and now were in the process of breaking the law in a pretty bold fashion! Not a bad feeling, really! Way better than Fall Guys, for sure. Maybe the narrator had missed the mark just a little bit by calling them heroines!
"Yeah?" Was it actually better than just travelling as a Digimon? Kurumi wasn't entirely convinced. She supposed there was some thrill to high speeds in a mechanical death trap. Maybe that was what Manami was getting at. Not that Manami was at a particularly high risk of dying in any human world scenario anyway!
There was a glance to the speedometer, before the blonde looked out the window. It was a wonder they hadn't already crashed into something! Or someone. Ah well. But where would they go now? "Well, our options are a lot bigger now that we have a car," she mulled. The museum was clearly out of the question now. So what was a better option? "I dunno, do you want to stay in this city, or go somewhere else?" There were plenty of things to do everywhere!
Maybe Rumi should start looking for places to head to on her phone.
Or maybe she should give advice about how police cars were not Digimon.
"Took 'em longer than I expected," she uttered under her breath, while leaning to try to see the sirens' source. "They're the guys we're gonna have to convince that I'm a hostage," she informed after another second. "You'll prob'ly wanna speed up some more. They usually try to block you off eventually." Or, that's what they did in those chases that she watched on the news!
Did that mean they would be on television too? That could be exciting.
But, to properly answer if they were Guardromon? "They're the police. And since the cars they're in are making angry sounds, they probably would really like to put you in jail. Or prison. Not a fun time." Or was it? Rumi wouldn't know! She was definitely going to play the hostage card once this was all said and done! Sorry Manami, no accomplice for you!
Not that she could imagine the police would have much success in detaining a Digimon, anyway!

Of course they were the heroines! They’re the protagonists of the story, so no term could possibly match the situation better!
In any case, it seemed like Ru-Ru was pretty surprised at Manami’s answer regarding the joys of driving a car. Explaining why this situation wasn’t half bad to somebody with limited understanding such as a human would have proven to be bothersome under normal circumstances, but luckily the digimon had already conjured the perfect example! “Sometimes, digimons decide to race for recreation in pairs with the caveat that they tie one of their legs. It’s called three-legged or something! It’s probably like that, y’know? The novelty of being impaired hides the tedium of the activity, at least for a small while.” Simple enough to understand? Hopefully, maybe.
Was it true that their breadth of options was wider now that they had a car, however? Probably true in absolute terms, but if one considered their soon-to-be status as criminals, that probably wasn’t entirely true! “Anywhere works! Is there any place you wanna go at the moment?” Considering that no matter where they ended up would most likely be a new experience for Manami, anywhere was fine, really.
Except maybe behind some bars! That’d definitely be a less-than-ideal situation. Apparently, the Guadromon sirens were the police! And that meant that the relaxing fun time was over… and zoomy fun time began! A pretty wide smile took over Manami’s features as the car began accelerating even further. “You got it, Ru-Ru! They won’t even see me escaping!”
Boasting? Probably, but she fully intended to live this experience to its fullest, and some lousy law enforcing humans wouldn’t prevent that from happening. Of course, a hot pursuit would be quick to ensue in which at least two police cars were right behind Manami while she drove at full speed towards the only place that evoked a sense of familiarity within her; yep, the car was careening directly towards the supposed dead end that Shibuya River was supposed to be. “Hope you’re ready for a small dip, Ru-Ru! We’re making our dynamic exit!” Which, hopefully? Would be a quick one! The digimon was just planning on using it as a roundabout shortcut of sorts. Once they returned, they’d be free to go wherever they pleased! Or, well… at least theoretically.
The scene itself was very thrilling! A car apparently diving straight into its doom while a group of very entertained horrified people gazed and/or filmed the moment with their mobile devices. Least to say, the car dove into the water and promptly disappeared from sight, directly into the river’s murky waters… or straight into the Digital World, if you knew better!
What about the car itself? It had a… pretty rough landing, all things considered, but it seemed like it was still functional! The suspension might’ve suffered a bit from it, but it wasn’t anything that prevented the car from moving. At least for now!
Good news, though! Our heroines had arrived in the middle of a perfectly calm clearing, and just when the car conveniently revealed that its trunk could unfold itself providing all the necessary items for a picnic amid this impasse. Wasn’t that handy? “Say, Ru-Ru?” The disguised digimon asked, pointed at the mini fridge that had some pretty fancy bottles inside. “What’s that supposed to be? I’ve seen fridges before, but never anything as small as that one. Does that mean that its contents are good?”
A good question that’d probably have a better answer. Fortune seemed to be on their side for now.

Was Kurumi going to be the one to tell Manami that three legged races were also a thing in the human world? No. No, she thought not. She just wanted to say anything that prevented the two from doing one of those dumb races together sometime. Not that hat-form Manami had legs to race with anyway. "Huh. Well, those sound lame." Because they did! Why the heck did Digimon do those races? Jeez. She knew humans were stupid enough for them, but she had held a little bit of hope until now about Digital creatures! They were weirdly human sometimes, weren't they?
As far as where she might want to go? Anywhere except prison, really. "How about we just drive for a bit and see if anything cool shows up?" Cool like a place to stop, hang out, and ditch a luxurious car. Not cool like having the police chasing them! Maybe she should have been more specific. Even though it would have happened regardless of Rumi's verbiage!
Double-checking the latch on her seatbelt, the blonde settled into the seat a bit. Safety first! She wasn't really sure if she could digivolve faster than she could shoot out a windshield, after all. But there should be no worries there! "I'm sure you can do it." Maybe, to a human, that would sound a lot more sarcastic. But really, if anyone could outzoom the police, it probably would actually be a Digimon! So, maybe they wouldn't spend the next several years in prison!
How long was a sentence for grand theft auto, anyway?
Not that it was going to matter anyway! Manami had apparently decided that careening into a river was the best way to beat the cops! Ew. "Can't you pick one that's less gross?" Nope. Not at all! By the time she could even ask a question like that, they were already about to dive in! Granted, Rumi had never tested the portal in Shibuya River before. For good reason. Nobody wanted to smell like trash!
Luckily, they were in and out before any of the sewage liquids could penetrate their fancy vehicle. And with the landing, there was a disgruntled gurgle from the passenger. Never again. Hopefully, at least. Good thing the car had nice suspension, or the teen probably would have hurled! She had to wonder what the police would do, back in a very different world, when no people or vehicles resurfaced. Ever.
And with the matter of a fancy picnic out of nowhere, Rumi was pretty glad she hadn't lost whatever snacks were already in her stomach. That would have been such a turnoff from other consumables! Peering at the minifridge, the girl tilted her head a bit, to better peek at the bottles prior to touching them. No more surprises for today, please! "Not always, but in this case, it looks like the contents should be very good." That seemed promising! And a good way to unwind from all the craziness of the day! At least, for now.
"You wanna give 'em a try?"

Manami was more than able to rationalize Kurumi’s response as something fairly expected of a human being. Weak beings were unlikely to find any enjoyment in becoming even weaker, whatever the reason for that. On the other hand, once you were at the peak of your form, rescinding that state temporarily in order to mingle with lesser beings could prove to be fairly entertaining, at least for limited periods of time. However, the odds for Ru-Ru to understand a notion were fairly minuscule, and attempting to explain once again was likely to end in failure, so, the disguised digimon limited herself to smile, nod and say. “Each to their own, I suppose. Maybe you’ll understand with time!”
Oh well; at least her opinion regarding what to do was somewhat decent. A true pity that it had to be promptly discarded thanks to the uninvited arrival of the police forces! “These guys love to crash parties, don’t they? We were doing pretty fine until they came!” Captain Obvious was surely making an appearance at the moment. Most criminals would’ve probably thought the exact same thing.
While the encouragement wasn’t precisely needed, a smirk that conveyed excitement and a bit of playfulness was evident on Manami’s face as the car she drove careened towards its final destination! “That’s part of the fun, though! Can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs, after all.”
In the end, our heroines ended in a random clearing in the Digital World. It was fairly convenient that they hadn’t landed in the middle of the ocean or amidst an active volcano! The car, and maybe even Ru-Ru had the possibility of being lost if that had been the case. That’d have been a real shame.
Anyway! At least for the time being, everything was fine! The duo had even acquired a pretty fancy car; if that couldn’t be considered a success, then nothing would. The car itself seemed to only keep on giving, considering that there was plenty of fancy beverages and at least enough cups for the two girls to engage into a celebratory picnic after their escape! “Of course! Let me pour you a glass too.” “And then Etemon told me he’d spare me if I became his follower. Can you believe it?” After two or so bottles, the Trickmon’s disposition had only become chipper, even if there was a pretty evident slur in her voice. “So I just deleted him and that’s how I got the parchment for my tent and a sick pair of sunglasses! Ain’t that great?” A bout of giggling followed soon after.
In all honesty? Manami couldn’t even recall what had prompted her to retell some of her previous life’s anecdotes, but she didn’t care all that much about it, either! Ru-Ru probably didn’t mind either. She didn’t look like she did, but she never looked like much most of the time.
Once she finished telling that very story, the blonde would probably notice that something seemed different regarding her D-Tector. Slowly, it’s form gradually changed until it looked like… another digivice model entirely. What could’ve prompted that? Was that even possible? And, most importantly, would she recognize the event while being terrifically entertained by her companion’s tales? Those were all great questions that were currently unanswered.

There was probably no point in disagreeing with Manami ultimately. Even if three-legged races were dumb. Which, they absolutely were. "Maybe." Hopefully not. Kurumi was really hoping that the next time they crafted up some sort of game in the Digital World, it would be realistic Fall Guys and not racing while tied to another person. That would be such a drag. She didn't even think the idea of combining the two concepts sounded cool. Even more proof on how lame three-legged races were!
It was a bit of a shame the police had to end their joyride so soon, though! Surely it would have been tons of fun until they crashed into something! But instead, they were doomed to crash into a trash river. Which was pretty gross. Probably not quite as lethal, at least! "Police like to ruin everything." Usually, at least! Perhaps, the blonde was a bad influence on how Manami would perceive cops in the future. They weren't actually all that bad! The issue was that Rumi wasn't actually all that good! And just that police sucked, but that was just a minor detail.
Despite all things telling the girl that she should worry for her life, Rumi only found herself giving Manami a long stare. "What egg are we breaking, here?" For now, it looked like one that Rumi would have thrown away, rather than putting into an omelette! But she wasn't the 'chef' in this situation. There'd be a consideration on if she should have been, but it was a lot harder to feign innocence in a situation if she was the driver! So, Rumi was stuck with this fate. Not like it could be changed anyway.
With plenty of luck on their landing location, it hadn't even crossed the girl's mind that she very well could have died depending on where it had dropped them. Had anyone ever plummeted into an active volcano, when using the river portal? If it had happened, it would be easy to know why nobody ever told the tale! Though, if someone could survive that, it would certainly be a story worth telling!
On the bright side, both girls were safe from incarceration, and they could move onto bigger and better things! Like fancy beverages! And no more sewage water! From there, they'd drink and somehow come upon storytime featuring none other than the fantabulous Manami! The spirit user listened intently, while sipping on her drink. How much had she drank? She wasn't so sure. Not that it really mattered. There was still plenty more!
"Sunglasses ain't cheap. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal outta that Etemon." Truth was, Rumi didn't even know what an Etemon was. She didn't really care, either! At this point, she'd learned to just roll with anything that ends with a 'mon' and only ask if it was absolutely necessary for her to understand! It sounded like an obnoxious creature that probably came with some sunglasses. And if it didn't, it apparently just had a lot of data! Anything needed to comprehend beyond that was too much thinking after too many bottles!
As far as questions the prior narrator had left unanswered? Considering the D-tector was in the blonde's pocket, feeling something moving was very obvious. In possibly the most animated fashion Rumi had ever mustered, she jerked and slapped her hand on her hip. If something had crawled into her pocket, it was going to heavily regret thinking it was a smart choice! And, it must have! Because the movement stopped instantly. "The hell was that?" She grumbled, staring down at the pocket. Did she really want to reach in and find out? Was there even room in there for a living creature? There probably had to be. After all, pockets didn't start moving on their own!
After a moment of hesitance, she decided that it definitely needed removed, regardless of how sketchy it was! So, she reached in and... found nothing but her digivice! Or, wait. That didn't feel right! Instead of extracting a potentially dead creature, the blonde pulled out what had been her D-tector. Except it looked pretty different now, shapewise! Colorwise? It still matched up. Leaving the tipsy girl more confused than before!
"'Ey, Manami. Do these things shapeshift?" Was that even a valid question? Since when did plastic(?) things morph while in someone's pocket? It would either have to be extremely cheap or extremely expensive for that! But, would Manami even have an answer?
Considering patience wasn't necessarily the girl's strong suit, while she awaited response, she began clicking the buttons on the device. Maybe she could get it to change back that way! After all, she liked the old shape better! It's not like there was anything that could go wrong when button-smashing alien devices, right?

With the conversation regarding three legged races behind, our heroines were free to focus on more important matters! Like, for example, the fact that the police didn’t seem all that happy in regards to their small and completely inoffensive act. Could anyone blame Manami for wanting to drive a fancy car that was at the reach of her hands? Most likely not!
“If they’re so bothersome, I’m surprised no one has taken care of them already. Things would be a lot better without them.” And if by a lot better, she meant in a state of constant anarchy, that was probably correct. Small details, though.
The egg to be broken probably became pretty clear with time, considering how the group made their dramatic exit. The fact that Shibuya River would probably be the target of extensive investigation probably wasn’t the greatest as far as keeping the secret of digimon a secret, but organizations that were about that could probably handle such a small event, at least when compared to other leaks regarding digimons existing. Nor our heroines’ problem, that was for sure.
At least, the duo still managed to have a fairly good time, even if it wasn’t by driving around the countryside, or even in the Human World. But at the very least they had some souvenirs, like booze and a car, right? That had to count for something.
By now, it was fairly certain that at least Manami was quite tipsy, if not something more than that. Her usually quirky personality managed to come out as even more effervescent than normal. “Yep! The monkey definitely bit more than what he could chew, but not complaining. Everyone needs a pair of shades at some point. Do you have yours, Ru-Ru?” Weird question, but was anything else expected in a circumstance like this one? Probably now.
Luckily for the thread’s plot, those unanswered questions wouldn’t remain so for too long. As Rumi brought out her digivice, Manami looked at it with a degree of curiosity; somehow, it felt strangely familiar, almost as if she had a connection with it. But that was fairly impossible, wasn’t it? Kurumi was already a cheaty face, and it would be a shame if the Trickmon had to kill her in order to regain her freedom.
“Not that I know of.” Frankly, she didn’t know a lot about digivices, so it was entirely possible! “Did you do anything weird to it or something?” Maybe digimon and human had formed an unbreakable bond that was designed to withstand the test of time and adversity; maybe they were meant to be bound for life. Or… maybe it was just a joke from destiny; everyone knows that the thing liked to be the biggest jerk ever.
What Manami hadn’t expected however, was that her own body would be responsive to the blonde fiddling with her new digivice! From one moment to the next, a pulse of reddish energy gave way to both the undoing of the digimon’s holosuit and its evolution into Dynasmon X. She looked at her hands for a second, then at Kurumi before reaching at her and attempting to lift her using her palms as a platform. “Hey, ain’t it fun, Ru-Ru? It seems like we’re partnered now! Means we’re buddies for life from now on or something!”
Rumi didn’t need to be a genius to process the implications of such a claim, probably. Or how Manami’s tone wasn’t exactly friendly when saying those words.

"If only it were that easy," the blonde uttered, peering into the passenger mirror. "Believe it or not, some people actually like the police." It was surely obvious that Rumi was not one of those people! She was probably the worst person to be introducing anything to the concept of police officers, honestly!
With any luck, once they'd taken their 'swim' in the river, they'd be assumed as dead or something and never questioned on the matter! Not that Manami ever really had to show her 'face' in the human world again if that sort of thing did happen!
For now, though, they'd just relax in stories of Etemon and their sunglasses. Which was far more legal than what they had been doing! Aside from admitting murder, but it was in the Digital World, so that didn't seem to matter nearly as much! "Nah. Guess I need to find an Etemon, too." Hopefully an Etemon with some really stylish glasses! Somehow, the blonde only imagined they were kind of tacky and not actually something she would want to wear! Maybe some modifications could be made to them. Or she could find someone else to steal sunglasses off of, with a better fashion sense. Time would tell!
Just like time would tell how this day would develop. Or if Rumi would exist at the end of it! "It's been in my pocket the whole time. Kind'a forgot it was even there." Thinking on it, it was probably a bad sign that the blonde didn't really keep track of her very important device that could mean life or death for her in certain situations! Even if this current situation was proving to be more cumbersome thanks to it!
It seemed that Manami changing form was all it took for both parties to realize what had happened. Maintaining a pokerface and eye contact with Dynasmon X, the girl continued rapidly hitting buttons. Level down. Level down, darn it. "As fun as this friendship is, I think I prefer our old arrangement," she stated, flatly. Level down, level down, level down. How do these digivices work? Who in their right mind would want one of these things? She was just a useless ragdoll right now! Why would anyone want this over turning into moderately durable monsters, themselves? Screw the power of friendship!
"Y'know. I bet that it's to do with the booze," the blonde girl informed, matter-of-factly. "Fancy drinks can do weird shit to people. To things. But you know what? Wears off in a couple hours." And what would Rumi do if it didn't?
Hopefully learn how to make Manami stay levelled down, darn it!
"I'm sure we could find a way to make it a fun couple of hours though." Without humans being murdered! Right? Either way, the girl had begun to move back toward the car, this time on the driver's side. Could she out-drive a digimon? Highly unlikely. She wasn't even sure how well this thing was going to handle after what they'd already put it through! But either way, the blonde was prepared for one of two actions. Strapping a much smaller digivolution into the passenger seat, or trying to escape her surely short-lived fate of being a tamer! Literally!
