Back to the Beginning [Luke/Vee]

Well, today seemed to be the right day for it. Luke the Elecmon had checked the roster for who would be on station with AEGIS today, and he saw that his niece Gaz was here, as well as Sophie and Lantis, and enough other colleagues so that they won’t be missed. Furthermore, Vee had time off, so that suited his intentions perfectly.
Being covered with thick red, white and purple fur, Luke usually didn’t bother too much in the way of clothing – settling with a simple shirt and tie if he was to stay here in AEGIS headquarters, or just his blue neckscarf if he was off the clock. But when he ventured to the digital world, he would sling on his travelling belt and shoulder strap, which matched his brother Bellamy’s. And since he intended to do so today, he did just that.
First of all, he would talk to his human partner Colin, who was currently in the bathroom in his pyjamas, brushing his teeth and trying to tame his messy black hair, which was unfortunately mostly a losing battle.
“Hey, Colin.” Luke said, cheerfully.
“Heya, Luke. What’s up?” Colin turned to him when he noticed what he was wearing. “You going somewhere?”
“Probably. I just wanna ask Vee if he wants to visit the Village of Beginnings with me today.” Luke explained. “Just the opportunity’s come up, and you have Bells and Gaz in case anything happens…”
Colin remembered all at once. “Ohh, right, yeah, you did promise that to him in Terminus Station.” he smiled and nodded. “Of course, yeah, today’s a good day for that. If Vee agrees, sure, I don’t mind you guys going there.”
“Cheers, Colin.” Luke grinned back. Colin’s smile faded a little as he remembered something else.
“Your parents work there, right? Do you… think there’ll be any problems with that?” he asked. Luke shook his head.
“It’s fine, I write to them as often as I can, we’re still on good terms.” Luke assured him. His mothers, Mandy and Lexis were both Elecmon that tended to the eggs and babies of the Village. While they had wanted him to follow their career path, they at least let him go his own way with their blessings, and they remained in correspondence. Just Luke didn’t often have much opportunity to visit in person.
“Okay then. Hope you and Vee have a good time there.” Colin said. Luke gave a thumbs-up and set off through the headquarters, first letting Sophie know his intentions, then telling Bellamy and Gaz (who were playing a video game together) know, then looking for Vee to ask if he was available for the trip today.

Vee the Veemon let out a loud yawn as he poured himself a quarter of milk in his oatmeal mug, setting it into the microwave for a minute and a half in the kitchen. While his breakfast began to heat up, the blue dragon decided to do some quick morning exercise to get his muscles warm and loosen up, starting with squats. It was morning time here at AEGIS, where some were going about their usual routines as always: organizing patrol schedules throughout the day to monitor for any potential Digimon activity in the city, or to remain here at the operations floor to keep up with the usual, boring paperwork. Fortunately for Vee, it was day off today, so he had the whole day to himself, which begs the question: to do what exactly? Unlike his tamer Vergil and his brother Gummy, he really didn’t have much of a social life. Wherever his Tamer went, he’d followed. His time was usually spent exercising and training. And while he didn’t have a problem with that since it was nothing to be ashamed of, another part of him wants to break from his usual mundane routine and to go out and try something new, even if it wasn’t exciting or thrilling. Once Vee got done with his quick morning workout, the microwave went off, notifying him that his oatmeal was finished. Taking it out, Vee would make his way to the residential quarters upstairs, where Vergil and Gummy were at. Opening the door, he’d find the two bickering as usual. “I’m telling you, I want it right here,” The Gumdramon’s shoulders lowered as he turned his head, looking up to Vergil. “And I’m telling you, I’d think it’d be better if it was up here!”
Vergil shook his head, taking a stance. “Are you kidding me, I’m the one who bought those posters. I think I have every right to dictate where they should go. Ugh, when did you-- of all Digimon-- begin to care about decorations?” “LOOK, DO YOU WANT THESE TO BE HANGED UP OR WHAT?!” Gummy retorted. “The last time I checked, I’m the only one who can fly and reach up to the ceiling and hang them up there.”“Bruh, are you deaf or some shit? I said I wanted them up on the wall above the desk! Why would you want to put posters up on the ceiling. Who does that?!” Vergil argued back. Gummy landed on the nightstand, pointing at Vergil. “Just face it, you’re just getting pissy that my sense of style is better than yours!”“I am not!”“Yes you are!”“I am not!”“Yuh-huh!”“Nuh-uh!”The two continued to go back and forth. Vee watched, showing expression of both exasperation and slight embarrassment. He slowly closes the door, but not before catching a glimpse of Gummy pouncing on Vergil. Usually the Veemon would quickly interfere when the two got into it, giving them a good whack on the head. But today, he decided not to, instead letting them solve the issue. Besides, they got about fifteen minutes before the two had to clock in, so if they didn’t solve it by then and we’re still duking it out, they’d have to answer to Sophie, and Jesmon have mercy if they incur her wrath this early in the morning. Sipping on his mug of hot oatmeal, Vee would make his way back downstairs, heading for the training dojo. If he was going to spend his time off wisely, it was better off with what he knows best.

It didn’t take long for Luke to find Vee. The Elecmon noted that when it was his day off and not his partner and twin, he’d head for the training dojo. And he was glad to see him so quickly. Although this gladness turned a little to anxiety at first, given that Luke tended to be a bit on the shy side with social interactions.
Still though, Luke steeled himself to approach casually, thinking about how Bellamy usually approaches people. He’d try to be like that, only much less crass.
“Heya, Vee, I’ve been looking for you just now.” Luke said to the blue drake as he approached speaking distance. He tried his best not to say the word ‘uh’ since he knew he’d probably lose his line of conversation if he started hesitating. “Just that we’ve both got the day off today, so I was wondering if you’d still be up for that thing I promised you, back in our operation together at Terminus Station. That we could maybe go to the Village of Beginnings together and see… those guys. You know, check up on them and see how they're going.”
Luke knew that it was a lot to take in so quickly, but he thought that greeting Vee and telling him quickly of his intentions might leave a lot of the awkwardness out. Although immediately he did rather feel awkward, thinking that wasn’t how Bellamy would do such a thing. Damn it, why was his twin so much better at social talk than he was? Luke felt more comfortable with problem solving and logic than he was with conversing with others.
Still though, he hoped he was just overthinking things. After all, he was honoring a promise here, and he hoped Vee would appreciate that. After all, it didn’t escape Luke’s notice that Vee tended to be a little withdrawn lately, ever since that excursion to the Golden Rocks. The Elecmon thought that this might be an opportunity to get to know him a bit better and if he needed someone to talk about all that, but only if the polite opportunity came up.
He then remembered what else he should say here. "Ah, right. I checked in with my parents, they both work at the Village, you see, and they confirmed they're still there and would be willing to talk to us. My folks said their memories are a bit fuzzy, but they remember, and they also regret. So that's probably a good sign there."

Just as he was about to enter the training dojo, Vee stopped in his tracks, spotting Luke wearing a belt to his waist and a shoulder strap instead of his usual shirt and tie whenever he saw him on duty. From the look of relief in his eyes, he was looking for him. Usually, he’d drop everything and give him a hug, as that’s how he normally greeted his friends. But for some reason, he didn’t really feel like it today. Instead he just gave a soft smile as Luke approached him. “Hey there, Luke-senpai, how’s it going?” He said, approaching the red wombat-rabbit. Even though they haven’t really talked a whole lot due to assignments, it was always nice seeing his friend. Why, him here was already making his drab morning better. Listening to Luke, Vee’s red eyes lit up in surprise. That’s right, he did promise that they would go to the Village of Beginnings together . He guessed now was as good a time as any. “Oh really? Well in that case, I’ll be happy to come with ya. After all, I did promise to come with ya, so no need to tackle all that on by yourself,” Vee said. That night in the Terminus Subway was a memory that Vee didn’t want to dwell upon too much, seeing as that was the night blood was spilled, from both Luke and his brother Gummy—an event that shook the Veemon to the core. But then again, he had blood on his hands as well since the incident at the Golden Rocks. No. No, it was not the time to think about that. Vee went on to continue. “Oh, Vergil is uhh…let’s just say he and Gummy are “busy” right now, so they won’t know that I’ll be gone,” he added, a tinge of cringe appearing on his face from the sight he saw them in a moment ago. “Frankly, I haven’t even told them about the visit that you planned. It’s for the best anyway. ‘Cuz if I did, Gummy would just chew off their ears for thirty minutes, and Yggdrasil knows that when he starts ranting, there’s no stopping him, hehe.”Hearing that the reincarnated Digimon regretted their actions lifted a heavy feeling from his heart. “That’s good to hear, even if they can’t remember all of it.”Then a thought came up. “Oh, yeah! If you want me to, do you want some oatmeal before we go, Luke?” Vee asked. “I’m not sure if you had breakfast yet, or like oatmeal in general, but ya can’t travel on an empty stomach, y’know?”

Luke noted that something was probably on Vee’s mind when he greeted him without a hug. The Elecmon rather liked that when he did so, just a positive greeting that proved that they still regarded each other as friends. But of course he didn’t automatically think that meant something was wrong. Maybe Vee just didn’t feel like it today? After all, Luke didn’t feel entitled to hugs. Just the absence of one was something of note to him.
The Elecmon smiled with relief when Vee said he’d be fine to accompany him to the Village of Beginnings. In the time ever since the battle of Terminus Station, he was determined to make it right somehow, to prove that there could be a second chance for digimon that did bad things. And that this opportunity came up, and that Vee was available for this moment, he was delighted.
Luke listened as Vee explained what was happening with his twin brother and human partner at the moment. He couldn’t help but grin, figuring out that they were fighting over something. “I’m sure that’ll be okay, they’ll hopefully sort themselves out.” he said. “You know, in my early days with Colin and Bellamy, we found that when Colin had time alone with just the one of us, without the other there to argue and stuff, we really kinda grew as a trio. Like… Colin stopped us arguing and stuff, but he could only manage that if we spent time apart. So maybe this could be an opportunity to help that too, perhaps?”
Then Vee asked if he wanted some oatmeal to eat. Initially Luke would have waved it off, but all at once, he realized he had not eaten anything for breakfast. And if he met his parents with an empty belly then that would probably hold them up for at least two hours.
“Oh, gosh, yes, thanks Vee. I could do with some oatmeal for breakfast.” the Elecmon said with a grin. “I’d almost forgot, eheh. Okay, I’ll make myself a quick breakfast while you get yourself ready, then Colin can open us up a portal to the Village of Beginnings and we can go right there.”
To Luke, that sounded like a solid plan. If Vee had nothing to add, that was what he would do to prepare.

Hearing how Colin used to mitigate Luke and Bellamy’s arguing back in their early days, Vee became surprised at how simple that solution was. He almost couldn’t believe it. “Really? Well, whenever me and Gummy get into it, we tend to settle it by sparring since that’s the only way we know how. ” he explained to Luke. “If we had a problem with one another, Vergil usually takes us to the park when no one’s around, or the Spartan Training Grounds, we duke it out, and go home like nothing happened. But when you put it that way, maybe it won’t be so bad between them.”Compared to him and Vergil, Gummy hasn’t spent nearly as much time with their tamer compared to him; he’s usually with Bezil, which was understandable. Perhaps if they spent the whole day at work together, they can sort things out and become closer. He liked that idea. “Besides, I think the two of them are more alike than they refuse to admit, so they’ll definitely make it up to each other, in their own special ways, of course.” Vee added. After asking Luke if he wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, the Elecmon was delighted to make some. Vee grinned. “Well you know what they say: ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, right next to second breakfast. I’ll go and get myself ready then. Let’s meet back here when we’re done. Don’t be a slowpoke~”He playfully booped Luke on the nose and made his way downstairs to the office floor, finishing the last of his oatmeal. Spending time with Luke was just the thing he needed this morning. Better than spending his day off working out; he’ll consider this his rest day. Reaching Vergil’s desk, the Veemon placed his mug on the corner of the desk. Since Vergil and Gummy were still in the residential quarters, probably still fighting, he had no access to the sink to dump it in. So to compromise, he’ll leave the mug here for Vergil to collect. Before leaving, he also made sure to write down a note (as best as he possibly could due to his poor handwriting) and place it on Vergil’s monitor, saying that he’ll be hanging out with Luke today and not to worry about him. He thought it was the courteous thing to do instead of leaving without a word. Adjusting the grey scarf that was wrapped around his neck, Vee made his way back to the dojo, excited about the trip with Luke today.

Luke listened to Vee’s reply, interested to hear how other twin digimon handled themselves. Hearing Vee’s solution was intriguing to him.
“Ahh, okay. That’s pretty different to how Bells and I handle things.” he said. “We make it a point that we never spar if we’re angry with each other. Lately that hasn’t been a problem, we’re pretty in tune with each other so we settle things out pretty quickly, but yeah, in our early days with Colin, it was rough. A few times, Colin had to intervene personally to drag us off each other, and one time he got hurt from our attacks, so we toned it way down from that moment onward.”
Luke still felt guilty for that event. In fact this was the first time he had spoke of it to another person. He had felt foolish and terrible for fighting with his own brother to the point that Colin physically intervened, screaming “STOP!” repeatedly. He had never clashed with Bellamy like that again because of it.
Shaking his mind of that memory, Luke smiled as Vee said that Gummy and Vergil had more in common with each other than they thought. “Heh, yeah, I see that with them.” the Elecmon said, then remembered that Vee seemed to be a little distant lately. He wouldn’t say anything else on the matter yet, given that he hadn’t yet eaten his breakfast.
Luke giggled as Vee booped his nose. It was a little rare that another digimon would presume to be playful with him like that, but Luke rather enjoyed it, not objecting or retaliating.
Following that, Luke quickly boiled some water, prepared some oatmeal with honey and cinnamon, ate it once it was cool enough for consumption, then prepared for the jump to the digital world.
By this point, Colin had joined them in the operations floor, dressed in his work clothes.
“Well, hope you two have a good day in the digital world.” the young man spoke to them. “If anything happens, might be better to call Owen or Bezil first, they’ll be able to get to you quicker than we can, namely ‘cause of the time difference in our worlds. But if anything does show up, please let us know, okay?”
“Yep, sure thing, Colin.” Luke answered. He realized this was one of the rare moments when he went into the digital world without Colin or Bellamy, but, he felt that Vee was good enough as a substitute for that.
Colin then charged the portal to the Village of Beginnings. Luke could see the blur of a sunlit plain on the other side of the gate, with two red figures on the other side. He recognized what that meant.
“Welp, looks like we’ll be meeting my parents pretty quickly, Vee.” Luke mentioned to his friend. “Ready when you are.”
When they were, Luke would step through the portal to the digital world, and he and Vee would arrive in the Village of Beginnings.

Vee listened to Luke’s response, intrigued at how all four twins have different ways to handle each other when they get each other’s throats. Hearing how Colin got hurt during one of their fights raised his eyebrow in concern. “Oh man, I’m… sorry to hear about that.” he said. “That must have been quite a shock. I can’t imagine how you and Bellamy must have felt after that.” He paused for a moment, unsure on what to add. “But I guess the good thing about that is, like you said, you two manage to tone it down afterwards so something like that won’t happen again. Another experience of living and learning.”Easier for him to say that. Seeing Luke’s reaction to him booping his nose, Vee couldn’t help but giggle alongside him before taking off. He knew that Luke was a little bit stiff around the edges due to his responsibilities for the job. Not as serious as Sophie, but still taking his tasks seriously, so he hoped that today would loosen him up a bit. Following that, after Vee made the appropriate preparations, he returned to Luke’s side and made their way to the operations room. Colin had joined them soon after. “Oh yeah, that time dilation mumble-jumble that Vergil kept talking about.” Vee commented, placing a hand on his hip. “I still don’t quite get that stuff myself, but it sounds like this world and the Digital World operate on different treadmills where one’s faster and the other’s slower, at least that’s what I think you’re inferring to.”As Colin charged the portal, it slowly began to sink in that this will be the first time that he’ll be going to the Digital World by himself—without Vergil or Gummy. And even though he felt that Luke would be a nice substitute, one couldn’t help but wonder about the what if’s. But it was the Village of Beginnings, one of the safest places in the Digital World. No one would dare to cause trouble there, so he was sure they'd be fine. The portal then opened up. Vee could easily make out distinctive shapes and landmarks that identified the place they were going. There also seems to be two figures on the other end as well, figures that Luke instantly recognized. He turned to his friend, grinning ear to ear and pumping his fists up in excitement. “You bet!”With that said, Vee walked through the portal alongside Luke, and the two of them found themselves at the front doors of Village of Beginnings.

Luke appreciated Vee’s sympathy. “We felt… pretty horrified at ourselves to be honest. We were basically used to being solo digimon at that point and hadn’t met any humans, yet suddenly we found out that we were bonded to one. We both liked him, a lot, he was kind and open to us and he gave us a home and food, but…” he felt a lump in his throat as he remembered that feeling. “We had no idea how vulnerable he was to us. Neither of us had wanted to hurt him, but we did. We’re just glad he survived. It was a lesson for all of us that day, and we swore we’d never let it happen again.”
The Elecmon was grateful that even though humans were in some ways very vulnerable compared to a digimon, in other ways they were incredibly resilient. Thankfully the 13-year-old Colin was strong enough to fully recover from that incident. He had lied to his parents to cover the blame for them – that he had an accident with a faulty electrical socket, but no lasting damage was made and his burns fully healed.
After revealing that bit of information to Vee and seeing his reaction, Luke felt a little more relaxed about being around him. He felt other feelings too, but wouldn’t yet bring them up until they were appropriate.
Vee remarked about the time speed difference between the human world and digital world while they were waiting. Luke agreed with a nod, finishing off the last of his oatmeal. “Yeah, I don’t know how exactly it works, but it’s pretty useful. Admittedly, Colin and I take advantage of it in our schoolwork, we go to the digital world so we have more time to study. Bellamy comes too, just he uses it for more time playing video games and making social media content.”
At first Luke had disapproved of his brother wasting his time like that, but, eventually Bellamy rather flourished as a content creator, so if that was what he wanted to do with his spare time, Luke was fully on board and would help how he could.
Then the portal opened, and Luke stepped through along with Vee. On the other side, once the initial dizzying sensation faded (as it usually happened with Luke when he moved between worlds), he looked at the digimon that were there to greet him.
“Hey, mom. Hiya, ma.” he said to them.
There were two other Elecmon present. One was a squat, short one with a kind, but somewhat tired looking face. The other was a more tall, slender one, but not quite as tall as Luke, with more sharp features, but looked more relaxed. At once, the shorter one walked up to him and gave a big hug.
“Oh, Luke, it’s been too long. I’m so glad to see you…” she said.
“Yeah, well, been a bit busy with work, you know…” Luke responded, patting her back once he thought the hug had lasted long enough. Then the other Elecmon gave him a more casual sort of one-armed hug, and she patted his back.
“Good to see ya, Lukey.” she said. “And who’s this you’ve got with you? Not your human partner I see, and as I remember your twin was an Impmon, not a Veemon.”
“Ah, yes. Mom, Ma, this is Vee, my friend and colleague with AEGIS.” Luke introduced them, and made sure to do the reverse. “Vee, these are my parents, Mandy and Lexis.”
“Ahh, so this is Vee. We’ve heard of you from our son’s letters.” Mandy the short, motherly Elecmon said, eager to make acquaintance. “Nice to meet you in person!”
“Well ain’t you a cutie, no wonder Lukey here likes you.” Lexis the taller one said, offering her paw to shake.
“Stop it, Ma…” Luke said, sheepishly, feeling his cheeks warm a little, but couldn't hide a bashful grin. He turned to Vee, wondering how he would react to meeting his parents.

Vee understood how much of a touchy subject this was for Luke as evident by the Elecmon’s shaky voice. Indeed, Humans are very vulnerable compared to Digimon. Whereas a Rookie like them can withstand things such as a fire blast or a violent electrical shock, it could yield serious or fatal injuries to humans. But despite that, that never stops humans from venturing out into the Digital World, and that was something that impressed him greatly. They were brave, daring, and strong-willed—something that his Tamer, Vergil, was. Hearing about how Colin and Luke utilized the time dilation between the two worlds, Vee was left flabbergasted, his mouth slightly agape. “Are you kidding me?! You mean to tell me that Vergil could have done that instead of him trying to pull his hair out completing his assignments at the last minute?!” Vee exclaimed. He picked up one of the chair cushions of a nearby chair and let out a muffled scream before placing it down in a calm manner. Vergil, despite praising him, was the most difficult when it came to his responsibilities. When it came to his school work, he’d frequently hold it off until the day before the due date, making the Veemon give plenty of encouraging speeches for him. Lately he was running out of ideas on how to properly motivate him. If it wasn’t something for his drawing class, he wasn’t doing it immediately. He could learn a thing or two from Colin perhaps. After that, the gateway opened up, and Vee stepped through it along with Luke. On the other side, there were two Elecmons present, both of them looking very similar to Luke in appearance. Luke introduced them as Mandy, and Lexis, his parents. Vee blinked, surprised that Luke told them about him. “Nice to meetcha as well, Mrs. Mandy!” Vee replied to Mandy. “I didn’t know Luke had parents. Parents are somewhat uncommon in the Digital World. Heck, I didn’t even know what a parent was for a while.”
Shaking Lexis’ hand, Vee would tilt his head somewhat confusingly as he turned back to Luke. He didn’t know what to make of it , nor did he understand what that meant, so he just took it as a compliment. “So, like Luke, I’m also a twin Digimon.” Vee continued. “You’ve probably met Bellamy, but my brother is kind of like him: purple, arrogant, and full of pride. Though not as sauve as him and Luke here.”

Luke gave a small smile when Vee seemed astonished by this revelation. He waited until Vee had finished screaming into a pillow before making his offer. “Well, Vergil and you guys would be welcome to come with us when we go to the digital world to do homework.” he said. “We all ride on Daedalus, our Heliodramon mercenary. He’s got a first class setup, and we don’t have to worry about rent or fees or anything like that. I’m sure Vergil would be welcome aboard too.”
Once they were in the digital world, Mandy and Lexis listened to Vee’s response to them. Mandy smiled. “Yes, that’s true, most digimon don’t have parents, but when two digimon express enough of a fondness for each other, they can create a new life from their data.” she said, proudly. “In fact we try to tell that lesson to all the digimon we raise here. Live a life full of love and friendship, and-”
As Mandy made her friendship speech, Lexis chuckled when Vee didn’t seem to react to her comment of him being a cutie. She quietly turned to Luke.
“I can tell you like this one, I noticed you blushing, Lukey.” she muttered out of earshot. “You might have to be a little more obvious though. No need to be blatant and awkward, just tell him honestly when you’re ready, okay?”
Luke was momentarily dumbfounded from these words, but Lexis would leave him to dwell on it when she quickly turned their attention to what Vee was saying.
“Ah, Bellamy, yes, we’ve met him. He’s a fun guy.” Lexis said.
“Hmph, and crude.” Mandy said, obviously displeased at the talk of him. Luke was for the moment made a little nervous at seeing his mother be put so quickly in a foul mood. Thankfully Lexis stepped in with a good distraction.
“Yes, yes, well, rather than holding down Lukey and Vee with all you dislike about Bellamy, why don’t we let them do what they came here to do and talk to the baby badguys?” the sharpish Elecmon suggested.
“Ah, yes, that’s right, that’s what Luke’s letter said.” Mandy stated. “The digimon you and your brothers defeated in Terminus Station a while ago. Yes, they’re very much willing to speak to you. They’re over there.” she pointed in their direction.
“Okay, thanks.” Luke said, smiling at his parents. “So, Vee, when you’re ready, let’s go talk to them.”
Once they were, Luke would walk over to the Hopmon, Kapurimon and Yokomon that were watching them from a shady corner of the Village of Beginnings.

Vee gave an audible gasp where Luke revealed that they had a Heliodramon for a mercenary. Heliodramons, to him at least, we’re quite rare in the Digital World, so hearing that they’ve hired one as a first class air transport for AEGIS surprised him. “That sounds like an idea,” he said. “I think Vergil would really like a nice change of scenery besides the library and home to do his homework. Though a fair warning, he likes to listen to music a bit too loudly when he’s really focused. So when he does, keep that in mind.”
Arriving at the Village of Beginnings, Vee listened to Mandy, putting his hands behind his head in a casual manner. “Wow…I wish I knew about that when I was here. I think the previous caretaker might have taught the other Digimon something like that, but my brother and I were more focused on trying to pull pranks on them instead.” Vee said, giving a cheeky smile. Back when they were In-Trainings, the two of them would always get into trouble, pulling elaborate pranks on the caretakers such as putting sticky notes on all of the Digitamas, labeling them all as “egg”, changing the time on all the clocks to confuse everyone, putting a dab of glue on each and every piece of chalk there was so when they tried to write on the chalkboard, no marks would be made, and covering themselves in fake blood and pretending that a Goblimon attacked them. Those were the good ol’ days. Vee, for a moment, felt a bit nervous upon mentioning Bellamy. It seems that Mandy didn’t have such positive thoughts on him. But thankfully Lexis was able to change the topic rather quickly and suggest they go meet the baby baddies. He turned to Luke, returning the smile. “Yup. Let’s give our old adquantices a warm welcome...I used that word right, right?”

Vee seemed like he approved of the idea for them to share Daedalus as a study space. “That’s great.” he said. “There’s 10 private cabins aboard Daedalus, given that they’re a little small, just a bed, desk and closet in each one, but they’re private enough. And fairly soundproof. Bellamy does his social media content there, and Colin and I do our homework in our own cabins. So Vergil can feel free to have a cabin to himself as long as he needs it. Ah, and there’s a window too, so he could look out and see wherever we’re flying.”
At the Village of Beginnings, Lexis raised an eyebrow at Vee’s recollection. “I see, we’ve had a few tricky little babies come through here over time. Well, hopefully you’ve grown out of that.” she turned to Luke with a sharp expression, which pretty clearly read to her son that he’d better not cause needless trouble like that again if he was under his trust.
“I’m sure it’s all in the past, ma.” Luke said, chuckling nervously. While Lexis seemed to be good humoured, it was clear that workplace harrassment was something she would not abide by. And given that Mandy hadn’t clued on by what exactly Vee’s meaning was, Luke wasn’t keen on it all being laid bare and her getting mad too.
Luke was somewhat glad when they were given leave to talk to the reconfigured baby digimon. “It’s acquaintances, Vee, but that’s okay, you were close.” Luke assured his friend.
They then approached the three baby digimon. They turned away as they approached, but looked up at them sidelong, obviously nervous and wary at their presence.
“Well then, we meet again.” Luke said, gently. “Don’t worry, we’re not going to hurt you this time, we’d never hurt baby digimon.”
“...I guess so.” the Kapurimon said, after hesitation. “But I don’t forget how you destroyed me, Luke.”
The Elecmon sighed and acknowledged the hurt feelings. “Okay. I’ll just make myself clear on this. I’m not sorry that I did it, but I’m sorry that I had to do it. You guys were trying to blow up the Trailmon station and kill innocent lives… just… what in the world brought you to that decision?”
These words at least brought the digimon to shame.
“We…” the Hopmon began. “We were told… humans were taking over our world… that they’d conquer and enslave us all… and that station was the place where they were all arriving.”
Yokomon nodded and continued. “We thought… if we could block them off, we could save the digital world.”
It was as much as Luke suspected. Still, there was little point in getting angry with these baby digimon. They were on their second chance of life, and it was up to them to make sure they made better decisions.
“But haven’t you heard that most humans that arrive here are trying to make the digital world a better place?” he asked. “They’ve destroyed the Control Spires that have showed up, they helped deal with the D-Reaper, they’re solving so many problems, they really mean the best for us digimon.”
“...that’s true.” Kapurimon admitted. “Are you… here to punish us more for what we did?”
“No, absolutely not.” Luke assured him. “You’ve got a second chance in life now, as long as you don’t try to hurt innocent people again, we won’t hurt you. Right, Vee?” he turned to his friend.

“Yup! It’s all in the past, Mrs. Lexis.” Vee reassured her, giving a thumbs up. And though he had put his prankster days as a DemiVeemon behind him, he felt as though if he saw the Elecmon that took care of him and Gummy, he may pull a harmless prank on them for old time sakes, but he’ll try his best to hold off the urge to. Walking into a shady area in the, the two approached three baby Digimon: a Kapurimon, a Hopmon, and a Yokomon as they skidded away, obviously wary of them. Vee somewhat felt the same way, knowing what they were capable of. He took a step back behind Luke and allowed him to do the talking for the time being. The night at the Trailmon Terminal began to flood back into his mind. When facing the two Digimon that opposed them, he thought it was going to be a classic “stop the bad guys and save the day” type of scenario, the same thing he’d usually see in cartoons. And though he managed to convince one of them—a Black Gatomon—to change their ways, he was unable to with Dinohumon, and Luke was forced to destroy him, something that greatly upsetted Vee and caused him to lash out against his friend. For the Veemon, it was the first time he realized that the world was not all black and white, and the events at the Golden Rocks only further cemented that. He still felt bad about hitting Luke like that. So the question now is, if he were to find himself in Luke’s position that night, with the enemy on their knees, barring their teeth in defiance, refusing to accept defeat, would he do the same thing and destroy them? His head turned, he looked at Luke squarely, his eyes slightly glazed. “Y-Yeah, of course. And honestly, whoever told you guys that humans are bad have clearly never seen one or even taken the chance to talk to them.” He walked over to them and flopped to the ground, relaxing. “Going to the human world, becoming partners with one, I’ve learned that humans are so complex compared to us: They can say one thing but do another, they have food, clothing, and shelter and yet still feel unsatisfied, and they can be caring to one another, but selfish to total strangers.” Vee paused, tossing his head that made his scarf sway. “But that doesn’t mean that they’re bad and should not come here. And as Luke said, there are many humans trying to make our world a better place. I’m pretty sure conquerors don’t do that.”The Veemon sighed, thinking back to the incident at the Golden Rocks. “And yet, there are so many Digimon out there that just hate humans so much that they want to kill them, and all I want to do is knock them upside the head and make them realize that their way of thinking is wrong. Like…why hate something that you don’t understand? It’s just going to consume you until all that’s left is pure evil,” Vee concluded. Vee reaches out and pat Yokomon on the head. “But hey, I’m just some Veemon that isn’t the brightest light bulb, so just take it as food for thought.”

Luke felt rather glad to see Vee sit down to talk to the baby digimon. The Elecmon did the same, it felt more relaxing to speak to them like this. In fact it was the reason why he had taken the shot against DinoHumon. The solid hope that they would one day be able to talk like this, to make amends for what was done in the previous life, so the new one would be better. Luke hadn’t been given the same chance in his case, so he was glad to give someone else what he wanted.
Luke and the baby digimon listened to what Vee had to say. All four of them were impressed with how well Vee sold the reputation with humans.
“Yeah, maybe you’ll learn that for yourselves soon.” Luke added. “Most baby digimon head to Rosewood once they evolve to Rookie level. Maybe you could head there? There’s a lot of humans around there that are willing to help out young digimon like you.”
The Yokomon responded comfortably to Vee petting her. The three baby digimon remained silent for a little while, seeming to think over their words.
Eventually the Hopmon spoke. “So, say we go to Rosewood once we evolve… what next?” he asked. “Do we have to work like slaves?”
“Oh no, absolutely not.” Luke said, a little alarmed at hearing that. “You can do whatever you want in Rosewood. If you want to learn things, there’s digimon and humans that can teach you things. If you want to learn more about combat and survival for instance, you could attend our friend Owen the Gaomon’s classes. If you want to learn how to cook food, there’s a FlaWizarmon that takes on apprentices. Anything you want to achieve, there’s someone in Rosewood that can help you.”
The baby digimon seemed to respond positively to this, exchanging looks and smiles as they realized the paths that were now open to them.
“I’d… rather like to go to Rosewood when I evolve then.” Kapurimon admitted. Yokomon and Hopmon made motions that they agreed. He turned back to Luke though, and to the Elecmon’s dismay, looked at him with the same expression he had when he had last seen him as DinoHumon. “But I warn you, if you’re lying, I will have a rematch.”
Luke flinched at that, but supposed it was fair. He had taken the shot and brought Kapurimon to this position.
“As long as you don’t become an outlaw, I promise you I’ll help you any way I can.” he said in response. Kapurimon found he could no longer hold his grudge solid and supposed it would be best to let what happened in his previous life go.
“Alright. Thank you for talking to us, Luke and Vee. We think you’re good digimon.” Hopmon said. Luke smiled, that was good to hear from a former enemy.
