I wonder what's so important that they invited me to Rosewood, Luneth the Hackmon thought as he headed towards Adrian's and Shoutmon's house in Rosewood. It was sort of a sudden invitation on Luneth's part; he was just hanging out with the Fujisaki sisters when he got a Tamernet message from his father, telling him to come down to Rosewood as quick as possible.
I just hope Haru and Natsu will forgive me for bailing on them out of the blue like that. He assumed Natsu would, but wasn't quite sure about Haru...
It didn't take long for Luneth to reach his father's house, a decently sized house in the residential section of Rosewood very close to Skye's and Rory's house. "Father? Father, I got your message, is everything okay" He opened up the door and slowly walked in, where it seemed like everyone there at the time -- Adrian, Shoutmon, Skye and Rory -- were all staring right at him as if he was walking into an intervention. "...did I do something wrong?"
"No, no, nothing bad's happening," Adrian quickly said to Luneth. "In fact, it's the opposite."
"We just... wanted to let you know before it hatched," Shoutmon would add. That's when Luneth would notice just what his father was holding: a Digi-Egg, white with a red and black pattern all over it. The realization hit the Hackmon like a raging Monochromon.
"It's our new baby brother, isn't it?"
"Brother or sister, yes," Shoutmon said. "Unlike with you and Rory, this Digi-Egg materialized in front of your mother and I. I messaged you as soon as I realized what was going on." Unlike before with Luneth and Rory, Shoutmon actually seemed pretty excited to meet his third child. It was probably thanks to the experience he had with the two previous children, plus help from Adrian and Skye. But how were Skye and Rory reacting to this new development...?

If Skye was honest, she was starting to get why her comrade Owen had so many children. There was just so much joy to be had out of the process. All she had to do was to share a loving moment with Shoutmon, have their data combine, and then a new life would be created from their data. And best of all, it wasn’t as painful as she had heard it could be from humans who went through the same thing.
The egg had appeared before them this time. Skye didn’t know why, perhaps this time the digimon who looked after the Village of Beginnings identified it as one of theirs and sent it to them? She didn’t know precisely, but the Tailmon rather liked the idea of watching her own child hatch in front of her so she could help take care of it, rather than another case of Luneth and Rory where they appeared suddenly fully grown.
So far, Adrian and Shoutmon had arrived, with Luneth due to arrive soon. Skye was wondering about Rory, but didn’t have to do so for long, the Coronamon loudly knocking before entering and greeting them all.
“Mom!” he hugged Skye, who happily returned the gesture. She liked how cheerful and outgoing her second son was. “Dad!” Rory then hugged Shoutmon. Then he turned to Adrian. “Uh… human who is partner to my dad… man, I wish there was one word that could describe my familial ties to you.” Rory said, but offered a hug nonetheless.
Then Luneth arrived soon after. “Aaand brother!” Rory said, offering Luneth a hug too. Once that was all resolved, Rory then turned to the egg. “Is it gonna hatch soon, mom?” he asked Skye.
“It seems so, it’s been moving a bit today.” Skye answered, feeling rather excited now that the family had gathered in time.

While the family was waiting for Luneth, Rory would be the first one to arrive to the house. The Coronamon would first hug his mother Skye, then go over to hug his father Shoutmon. "Heya, Rory," Shoutmon said with a smile as he returned the hug back. "How's my fiery cat doin'? Have you been doing well in Owen's class so far?"Rory would then turn to Adrian, and expressed his wish for just one word that expressed his family tie to him. "You can just call me Adrian, you know. It's good to see you too, Rory," Adrian would say as he too returned the Coronamon's hug, patting the orange cat Digimon on the head. And of course when Luneth arrived, Rory offered a hug to his brother, which Luneth of course accepted and returned. "Hello, Rory," Luneth said after the hug. "I have to admit, I wasn't given very good information on what was happening. Father just told me to come down as soon as possible. I assumed something bad happened."
"Eheheheheh..." Shoutmon bashfully chuckled, rubbing the back of his head as he sweatdropped. "My bad..."
Rory asked if the egg was going to hatch soon. Considering that the egg has been moving quite a bit lately, Skye said that it could hatch soon because of that. "I've never seen a Digi-Egg hatch before," Adrian said. "I've seen chicken eggs hatch before in my world but something tells me this is going to be a bit different."
Suddenly the egg leapt right out of Shoutmon's hands and started bouncing all over the place. "WH-WH-WHAT'S HAPPENING?!""We better catch it before the egg is damaged," Adrian said before he leapt forward to try and grab it. The egg jumped out of the way at the last second, causing Adrian to crash onto the floor. "Ow..."
"There it is!" Luneth announced, pointing to the egg that was now in between him and Shoutmon. They both jumped towards it at the same time, and not only did the egg leap out of the way again, but Shoutmon and Luneth headbutted each other in the process. "Augh..." "My head..."The egg then stopped bouncing all around the place as it stood in the middle of the room. Noticeable cracks starting forming along the surface off the egg... it was beginning to hatch. After a sudden flash of light, the egg would no longer be there. Instead, in its place would be a white in-training Digimon with blue eyes. "Guri!" the little Digimon would cheer after being born. "Guri! Guri!"

Rory was delighted with the hug, and was eager to tell his dad how he had been going. “I’ve completed it! Well, not a complete ace as I wanted, but, Mr. Owen says that I’ve done well enough to be considered for going for the 7/71st test.”
Skye was delighted to hear that as well. “Ah that’s excellent! If you need any help with training, Rory, let me know. I’ll have you prepared for it with all I have. After all, I passed it once.”
Rory grinned and nodded. “Thanks, mom. I think I’ll take you up on that.” he said, cheerfully. Then he took Adrian’s words to mind, and lastly Luneth’s hug was exchanged.
Skye’s attention was then focused on the egg hatching. She was so excited that she rushed to Shoutmon’s side. “This is it! Our baby!” she exclaimed. In this moment she showed a little of the passion that Rory had inherited from her.
However, when the egg leapt around, Skye would not leap after it. She knew that either way things went, if the shell broke at this stage in any way, the baby within would be born. And the Tailmon gazed on with delight as the baby digimon emerged.
“Ohh, here you are!” she said, running forward and nestled him in her arms. Skye was so happy in this moment to see her third son be born. She gently stroked him with delight as she saw his big blue eyes blink back at her, the same eyes as she, Shoutmon, Luneth and Rory had. Yes, this was the newest addition to the family.
“Well, Shoutmon, everyone else, here’s our new boy~” Skye said cheerfully.
“Huh. I don’t think I’ve seen a digimon like this before, mom.” Rory said, taking a closer look. “Heya, lil bro~” he said, making a little wave to the new addition to their family.

Shoutmon was surprised to hear that not only had Rory completed school, but that Owen told him that he qualified to take the 7/71st test. "Nice going there, bud," Shoutmon said with a smile as he patted Rory on the shoulder. "I can help you train for it as well, if you want. I dunno if I'm as qualified to help prepare you as your mother, but I at least wanna try."
"Congratulations, Rory," Luneth said with a smile as well, "I'm positive you'd make a great 7/71st member."
After Adrian, Shoutmon, and Luneth chased after the bouncing egg, it landed in one spot and properly began hatching. "Here it comes..." Adrian said. The egg finally came apart, revealing a white baby Digimon with blue eyes inside. They all smiled as they watched Skye pick the baby boy up in her arms, the baby looking back up at Skye.
"Guri..." the little Digimon said, as if it was unsure what was going on. He tried looking around the room; who were all these strange people? Especially the tall one, he looked nothing like everyone else! "Guri! Guri! Guri!"
"Hey hey, it's alright, little guy," Shoutmon said in an ironically soft voice towards the baby Digimon, walking up closer to Skye to get a better look at his new son. Rory commented on how he had never seen a Digimon like this before. "Yeah, neither have I... Adrian?"
"Right," Adrian said with a nod as he scanned the baby Digimon with his Digivice. A holographic screen with the info would appear above the Digivice. "Says here that this is a Gurimon... if I had to guess, this is a brand new species of Digimon." Adrian knelt down to about Shoutmon's level and smiled at the Gurimon. "Hey there, little guy... he's just so adorable!"
"We should start thinking of names," Shoutmon suggested. "I had a name idea for if it was a girl, but I don't know if it would work for a boy... 'Gemma.'"
"...the name has a nice ring to it," Luneth admitted, before he too would start adoring his new baby brother. "Hello there, baby brother~"
"We could even shorten it to 'Gem,'" Adrian suggested. "Because this little guy is quite a gem indeed."
"Hm... what do you think, Skye?" Shoutmon would ask the Gatomon for her input on the matter.

Rory was most appreciative of the gesture. “Thanks, dad! I’d really appreciate some training sessions from you, when you’ve got the chance.” the Coronamon beamed at Skye. “After all, with mom here, she can heal us if we have an accident.”
Skye was a little uneasy at first on this arrangement. She didn’t really want Rory trained for war, but, she remembered how the 7/71st was conducted these days. Owen would sooner take them to a picnic than to battle. So she let her worries to rest.
“Sure, I’ll supervise and make sure nobody gets too badly hurt.” she said of that notion.
When the egg hatched, it seemed the baby digimon that came from it was a Gurimon. The next question as the name. It seemed Shoutmon had thought of the name ‘Gemma’. Skye pondered that for a moment, before agreeing. “Yeah, let’s go with that.” she agreed. “I like the association with jewels.”
“Well then, Gem it is!” Rory declared, rubbing his paws together. “Would you like something to eat, Gem? I can fry you up something good for your first meal!”
“Rory, please, give him a moment…” Skye replied, but realized that Rory probably was making a good call, it would take time for a meal to be prepared after all. “Actually yeah, you do that, son. Cook up something not too rich, but still tasty.”
“On it, mom~” Rory said, and sought out a recipe that would satiate his baby brother. "Jelly toast should do the trick." he thought out loud.

"I train with Father a few times a week," Luneth said to Rory, "and while he is... you know, Father, he truly is a skilled fighter. I'm sure you'll learn a lot from him like I have. Perhaps we could train together with him, possibly with our new brother here when he gets older."
"Heheh, I'm sure that Owen is ultimately a better teacher than I am, but thanks Luneth," Shoutmon said as he scratched the back of his head.
Speaking of the new baby brother, it seemed like Gemma would be the name that would be perfect for the newborn Gurimon, with Skye mentioning how she liked the association with jewels. "A cut above the rest, this one is," Adrian said with a smile.
Gemma looked up at Rory when he asked the little in-training if he wanted some food. At first, he wasn't quite sure what Rory meant by that, but it didn't take long for the realization to kick in. The little Gurimon smiled and cheered, "Guri!" as if he was saying "Oh yes please!"
"Oh, I didn't know you could cook, Rory," Luneth said, a little bit surprised by that revelation.
"Clearly you haven't been to his place for dinner before," Shoutmon said with a smirk. The red dragon's stomach then made a loud grumbling sound. "Uh, maybe you could make something for us too, Rory?"
"You get hungry at the worst times," Adrian said to his partner before he knelt down, looking at Skye. "Do you mind if I hold onto Gem for a bit, Skye?"

Rory waved his hand in dismissal of Shoutmon’s statement. “It’ll still be fine, dad. Mister Owen’s encouraged me to spar with different types of digimon so I can get used to different fighting styles. I’m pretty sure that you use tactics way different to him. Your weapon for a start. You use your microphone staff and fire abilities in combat. Mister Owen uses his fists, uses a pretty nasty shockwave bark attack, and has the ability to heal, so he can afford to be more reckless than normal.”
The Coronamon then realized he was rambling a bit, then backed off from his talk when he realized Skye was looking at him. “Eh, sorry, I got a bit carried away.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine, Rory, I’m really glad you’re picking up all this information.” Skye assured him. “And it’s something you should pay attention to in combat as well, the ability to heal being part of the equation changes everything. You’ve been practicing that, I hope?”
Rory forced a smile, then quickly faltered from his mother’s gaze. “No… I’m sorry, mom, it’s just… really hard to find an opportunity to heal. I don’t want to hurt anyone to test it out.”
“Hmm. Yes, that’s understandable.” Skye said with a nod. “How about you volunteer at the Rosewood Hospital? Lots of digimon get hurt from basic accidents, you’d be most welcome there as a healing apprentice.”
“Oh, ah… okay…” Rory said. Skye could tell that he was a bit hesitant on the idea at the moment, probably because it would infringe on the time he could otherwise spend being a digital casanova, but she wouldn’t press on it for now. “Sure, I’ll whip up something for everyone.” Rory said, and went off into the kitchen. Soon the smell of toast would waft into the room as Rory prepared a quick meal.
“Sure you can.” Skye said, and handed Gem over to Adrian. “It’ll be good for him to get used to humans quickly.”
After a few more minutes, Rory returned from the kitchen, carrying a plate of various slices of toast. Peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese, honey and hazelnut spread. Ordinarily Skye would have preferred more healthy options that contained less sugar, but eh, this was a one-off. And he also at least presented it very well.
“Thanks, Rory, you did good.” she praised her son. And Rory beamed.

"Heh, 'tactics,'" Adrian couldn't help but chuckle at the use of that word. "As hard as it is to believe, when Shoutmon and I first partnered up, his idea of tactics rarely went beyond 'hit the bad thing real good.'"
"That was me from three years ago," Shoutmon responded with a chuckle as he crossed his arms. "I've changed, matured. You weren't that mature yourself back then. Remember when you tried to use random words to activate the Digimental? Didn't you actually say 'shazam' at one point?"
"Oh, shut up, you," Adrian said as he gave his partner a weak punch on the shoulder, despite the red music dragon having a pretty good point. Rory got carried away with his comparisons between Shoutmon's and Owen's fighting tactics, which prompted Skye to assure him that she was glad that he was able to pick up all these details. "Knowing how your enemy fights is definitely very helpful."
Though Rory admitted that he wasn't practicing his healing as much since he didn't want to hurt others to do so. Adrian almost forgot that Rory had a healing move, if he was being honest. It was odd that Luneth didn't get one though... maybe he took more after Shoutmon than he thought?
"I'm sure the hospital would be very glad to have volunteers with healing abilities," Luneth said to his brother. The Hackmon also picked up how Rory seemed hesitant on the idea... what was up with that, he wondered?
Skye gave little baby Gem to Adrian while Rory headed off to the kitchen. Gently holding him in his hands, Adrian smiled to the baby Digimon. "Hey there, little guy," Adrian said in a soft voice, giving a warm smile. "I'm Adrian, a good friend of your dad's. You're very adorable, oh yes you are..."
Gem looked up at the goggle-headed human with an unsure expression for a bit. But then his nose wrinkled, and his eyes started watering up, a couple warning sounds were made before what Adrian was anticipating came to pass: Gem started crying. "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!"
"Oh no no no, don't cry, Gem, don't cry-!" Adrian said, trying to calm the baby Gurimon down as best he could, but to no avail. It seemed that the tall human was too scary for Gem to handle at the moment. "Uh-uh-uh, here, Shoutmon, you take him," Adrian said as he handed the crying baby to his partner.
"Rock-a-bye, baaaaby, up on the treetop-" Shoutmon began to sing, mimicking one of the human world lullabies he had heard before. His singing was interrupted by Gem spitting a bubble right in Shoutmon's face before going right back to crying. "ACK! Okay, singing doesn't work, I guess...!"
"This is not going well at all," Luneth said as he sweatdropped. "Perhaps Gem is simply hungry?"
If that was the case, then thank Yggdrasil that Rory came back out with a plate of various slices of toast with spreads on them. "You're a lifesaver, Rory," Adrian praised the Coronamon by petting him on the head before grabbing one of the slices of toast, specifically the one with honey. While Shoutmon was holding Gem, Adrian would break off little pieces of the toast and feed them to the Gurimon one by one. That turned out to be the solution to stop Gem from crying after all, as he was happily enjoying the pieces of toast he was being fed.

Rory didn’t doubt that his father knew nothing of tactics at the start. The Coronamon was very much the same when he had first started lessons in Rosewood, he had assumed that all would fold under his fire attacks, until a Dracomon folded him in his first lesson. That was the first step of many that told Rory that he needed to put effort into his combat abilities to get any return from them. And, with the encouragement of his family and friends, he had achieved that.
Skye was glad that Luneth encouraged the idea of Rory volunteering for the hospital. She could tell at once that his words had motivated the Coronamon.
“Okay… I’ll do it.” Rory then said. Given both his mother and his brother had suggested it, he felt no other option than to give it a go. Ah, what harm could it do? Worst case, he’d suck at healing and be put on a different path. But best case? He’d learn how to heal better? Yeah… that’d be awesome.
Skye flinched as Gem didn’t seem to take so well to being handled by Adrian and Shoutmon. But she didn’t lose her composure at the situation. As far as she knew, a baby digimon crying was merely the indication of a problem, it was up to the grown-ups to determine the cause. And she thought it was most likely hunger that was causing it.
Thankfully Rory made the toast quickly, and the food calmed her third son down. Rory grinned and pushed his head up into Adrian’s hand as he petted him. Skye had to hide her smile, that was exactly how she reacted to a human friend petting her.
Supposing now that the situation had calmed down, Skye looked around at her family, momentarily appreciating that they could have a good, quiet moment together like this, then thought that she’d better prompt some conversation that felt important to her.
“So then. While we’re all together like this, how about we talk about what we each mean to do for the next year?” she asked. She turned to her second son. “What about you, Rory?”
“Oh… uh…” Rory seemed a little staggered by the sudden question, but he paused for a few moments to gather his thoughts, then answered. “I’m gonna prove myself to Mr. Owen and join the 7/71st very soon, mom.” he answered.
Skye wondered if he was ready for that. Yes, he often acted as a flirty showboat, but, Owen saw the talent in him, and had encouraged it to come out all the same. And she could see it too. When she saw Rory training, she saw her own feline agility combined with Shoutmon’s sheer firepower. Such a digimon fighting for the sake of good would be an excellent champion for the digital world that shared her ideals.
“That’s wonderful.” Skye said in response, patting her son’s back. “As for myself, I hope we can see another year of growth and prosperity for all in the digital world. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have thought such a thing possible, but, I’ve seen Rosewood grow from virtually nothing in these past few years, so, I hope to see something equally as miraculous happen.”
They then turned to Adrian, Luneth and Shoutmon, wondering what they had to say. And also Gem, Skye wondered what sort of digimon he would turn out to be.

Luneth smiled when Rory agreed to volunteer heal at the hospital. The Coronamon did have healing powers after all, so it would be a shame if he didn't use them for Digimon that really needed it. "I like to believe that you'd be good at the hospital job, brother," Luneth would say to Rory.
Thankfully the complication with Gem would be resolved as quickly as it started, partly thanks to Rory bringing in the toast for everyone. Adrian couldn't help but smile as he petted Rory on the head, with the Coronamon pushing his head up to Adrian's hand. It reminded the human of his parents' cats back in Tokyo, as they would do the same thing when others would pet them as well. Adrian had to wonder if Skye would do the same if he tried petting her...
After everything had calmed down, with Gem calmly eating the toast pieces that Adrian was giving him while Luneth was eating some toast of his own, Skye suggested that they all talk about what they all intend to do for the upcoming year. Adrian nearly dropped his toast piece, as he wasn't expecting a question like that. Adrian generally didn't like thinking that far ahead since it makes him feel anxious every time he does. At least she asked Rory first, so small blessing right there.
Rory was as surprised by the sudden question as Adrian was, but he managed to respond that he wanted to prove himself to Owen and join the 7/71st. He had been talking about joining the group for a while now, and Shoutmon had the same thoughts and concerns as Skye did. Rory was a flirty showboat, but there was talent there. Anyone close to Rory could see that. Shoutmon gave Rory a warm smile in response, giving the Coronamon a thumbs up. "I have faith in ya, buddy."
As for Skye, she wished for more potential growth and prosperity in the Digital World, bringing up Rosewood's substantial growth in the past few years and how it showed how marvelous miracles could indeed happen. "I think Rosewood started to become an idea not long after I became a Tamer," Adrian said. "I guess in a way, I kind of grew alongside the city, right?"
"That's a nice way to think about it."
Now it was Adrian's, Shoutmon's and Luneth's turns to share. Oh boy. "Um, I never really thought that far ahead... every time I tried to think for my future in high school, before I met Shoutmon, it never went as well as you'd think. I'd get anxious and it would just leave me feeling bad. It was part of the reason I moved to Rosewood, so I wouldn't have to think about stuff like that anymore. So, forgive me for abstaining from your question, Skye."
As for Shoutmon... "Well, I guess I plan to train more and get even stronger than before," Shoutmon said with determination. "I can feel it, the next and final stage of my evolution."
And for Luneth? "Well, the funny thing is, that's what I was going to talk to you all about-"
Whatever Luneth was about to say got interrupted by Gem suddenly glowing brightly in Shoutmon's hands. "Gurimon Evolution!" The little Gurimon then morphed into a slightly bigger white dragonoid Digimon with blue eyes, a grey belly and a red stripe around his left wrist. While bigger than Gurimon, he was easily the smallest of the rookie Digimon there. "Gammamon!"
"Whoa! Gem just digivolved!"
"After a little bit of toast...?" Adrian asked, perplexed by how fast the Digimon went from in-training to rookie. Gem blinked as he looked around at his family as they all were potentially staring at him. "Heh, he's even cute in this form... hey there, Gem. Can you say hi?"
Gem looked at Adrian before he opened his mouth, his eyes squinting a bit... wait, he wasn't gonna talk, he was about to- "AH-CHOO!"
BLZZZZZZZZZT-CRAAAAAAAASH!
...when Gem sneezed, he unleashed a blast of orange energy towards where he was facing that was so powerful, it completely obliterated the front door of the house, with thankfully no one getting hurt. Adrian, Shoutmon and Luneth had comedic expressions of pure surprise as they all slowly looked at the little Gammamon that Shoutmon was still somehow holding, all with absolutely nothing to say in response to what had just happened.
