Cecilia cautiously hummed to herself as she looked up at the sky. The blue sky was completely hidden under a thick blanket of grey clouds, indicating that it was probably going to rain soon. Of course, being an aquatic Digimon, Cecilia doesn’t mind the rain at all, but she was currently on her way to go hang out with her best friend, Belle. Cecilia had known the punkish Tinkermon for a couple of years now, and the two of them were close enough that they were practically able to read each other’s minds (an exaggeration, of course, but the point still stands).
Even being so focused on the weather, Cecilia still managed to easily sidestep the bucket of water that had been dumped on her from above. The Rubescemon had a smug smile on her face as she looked up at the purple-haired Tinkermon sitting directly above her on the edge of a roof. The Fairy-like Digimon had a small pout on her face and stuck her tongue out at Cecilia before gliding down to join her friend.
“One of these days, I’m gonna manage to get you. You can’t avoid my pranks forever!” Belle said as she casually tossed the empty bucket into a nearby alleyway.
“Heh, I have had extensive training in military ops and spatial awareness. I can see your tricks coming from a mile away, Belle.” Cecilia smugly replied, while giving her shorter friend a Cheshire grin. “But by all means, keep trying. I certainly enjoy seeing you fail.”
The two teens stared at each other for a moment before they both burst into laughter. Belle would pat her taller friend on the shoulder and say, “See, this is why I like you, Cece! Never change, sister. Never change. Now, let’s go get lunch already. I’m starving!”
Normally, one wouldn’t expect the sweet, mild-mannered Cecilia’s best friend to be a rebellious punk like Belle, but the two somehow managed to click together like two peas in a pod. Belle’s rough manner certainly drew a couple of looks as the duo walked to a nearby Burgamon restaurant and sat down for lunch, but the two teens didn’t really care that much.
“Man, where have you been lately, Cece? I haven’t seen you in ages.” Belle asked, between taking sips of a milkshake. It was just like the Tinkermon to jump straight to the point like this.
“Oh, I’ve actually been going to school in the Human World! Dad wants me to get a proper education now that we’re a family again. It’s taking a while to get used to, but it’s really not that bad.” Cecilia explained while munching on some fries.
“Oh, jeez. You? Going to school in the Human World of all places? You really had me going there for a moment.” Belle said with a chuckle, before seeing the look on her friend’s face. The chuckle quickly faded as the Tinkermon stared at her best friend. “Oh, wait. You’re actually being serious right now. Huh. Well, I personally wouldn’t be caught dead going to school, let alone in the Human world. Not really my thing, if you catch my drift.”
“Your loss, then.” Cecilia nonchalantly replied, as the two finished off their food. It had started raining while the two teens were eating. Belle swore under her breath due to not having an umbrella, but Cecilia merely offered to share hers with the Tinkermon.
“So, where do you want to go hang out now? Your place or mine?” Cecilia asked her friend. It was an innocuous question, but when Belle reacted by grimacing and looking away Cecilia knew that something was up. “What’s wrong? Did you get in another fight with your parents?”
“Not … quite.” Belle quietly replied. The Tinkermon paused and sighed before she continued. “… They kicked me out yesterday. Made it quite clear that I wasn’t welcome there anymore.”
“That’s horrible!” Cecilia exclaimed, covering her mouth in shock with her free hand. Looking closer at her friend, Cecilia noticed that the Tinkermon’s appearance was a bit more disheveled than usual, giving credence to her story. “Well, no friend of mine is gonna be living on the streets! Come on, you can stay with us. It can be a bit … chaotic at times, but it’s definitely better than being homeless.”
With that, Cecilia grabbed Belle’s hand and almost literally dragged her all the way back to the Xros Army’s base. After a recent incident had resulted in a large hole being blown through the roof od Tartar’s lab, the Army had decided to renovate the place by building an actual residential building on top of the lab for the members of the Xros Army to actually live in while Tartar’s lab remained underground as the base’s “basement”.
Upon arriving at the renovated base, Cecilia would slam open the front doors and drag Belle to the living room where Octavio was sitting in a chair while reading a newspaper. Hearing his daughter’s noisy entrance, Octavio looked up at Cecilia and Belle and simply gave his daughter a questioning look. “What’s got you worked up so much?”
“Belle got kicked out of her home by her parents and has nowhere to stay. Can she stay with us, please?” Cecilia begged, giving her father the best puppy-dog eyes she could manage.
Octavio squinted at Cecilia, then glanced over at Belle. The Tinkermon was rather dizzy from being dragged across the city at top speed, and it clearly showed. After a moment’s thought, Octavio went back to his newspaper and said, “Alright, she can stay. BUT, she’s gonna have to help out around here to earn her keep. She can have one of the guest rooms.”
“Deal! Thank you so much, Dad!” Cecilia happily replied, giving her dad a hug before leading her friend to her new bedroom.
As they left the room, Octavio watched them leave and chuckled before returning to reading the paper once more. Our little girl’s growing up. You’d be so proud of her if you were here, Oceana.
