Despite one might think, this story does not begin in Shibuya, not even in Japan. It was way, way more to the west, in the tiny country that was Jamaica. An early teenager was sitting on a chair, in front of his computer, while munching on a blue pen as he searched for information in Wikipedia and similar web pages for a school project about literature. However, he could not find what he was searching anywhere. His electrical blue eyes glanced through the several links Googled offered, yet nothing of interest appeared.
-Aaaah, damn it! I'm getting sick of this! -he shouted, ruffling his white hair while standing up and shutting the computer down. It was 12 AM, but the night air was warm enough for him to get to the small terrace their house had for a moment. As he took a deep breath, trying to calm down, he picked up his electric guitar and began playing a soft tune. He didn't plug it to the speakers, of course, or else his mother would appear as if she was a ghost and ground him, like the last time he had done that.
-"God, how I hate literature... It's always boring, no matter what country I'm in..." -the thirteen-year-old thought as he looked to the starry sky, thinking about it. He had been around there for two months, since he had separated from his brother. He missed him a lot... Things weren't half as lively as they were with him to tease and joke around with everyone, including their parents. Sure, he did that too since their personality was similar, but... it was not the same.
After resting there for a few minutes, he let the guitar on its place again and just sat, telling himself that it'd only be five more minutes before It was then when his phone began ringing. Heading back to his room, the teen could see that what he thought to be his mobile was indeed his computer emitting a beeping sound. -"Wait... didn't I shut it down?" -he asked himself, when a message popped up on the monitor. It was written in binary code, so he quickly got a pencil and translated it using a binary to ASCI chart he found on his mobile phone.
YOU-HAVE-BEEN-CHOSEN -was the inscription. As he read it outloud, the digits recombined, prompting him to translating it once more. Y/N _ -could be read at that time. Not figuring what to do, he attempted to turn the computer screen off... to no avail. -Huh... not interested -he thought, and pressed the N, guessing it meant "No". That was his mistake, because the computer just popped another message, this time in English. -What do you mean wrong answer?! -he angrily stated, pressing the Enter and then the Y key.
After he'd done that, a flash filled the room, and the monitor turned blue and... sucked his backpack with all of his stuff! Afterwards, the pressure got stronger and the boy followed suit, leaving nothing but an empty chair behind!

Ryuu found himself falling in what seemed to be a tunnel made of... code? It was unending, or so it appeared to be, because soon enough he'd found himself reaching an oberture at the end, revealing an arid valley behind him. Though the tunnel kept growing downwards, it was clear that his speed was higher than its growth rate. -OH DAMN IIIIIIIIIIT!!!! -he screamed, as he was about to hit the floor. Luckily, the speed decreased when he was as good as dead, making the impact non-lethal... but it still hurt a lot.
Placing a hand on his head, he stood up as he could, while muttering some words. -That... hurts... -was the only thing he was able to say, before tilting his head and looking at his surroundings. He then realized... that looked nothing like his house. In fact, it didn't even look like Jamaica. It was an arid, almost deserted Valley (or at least, he wanted to believe in that "almost"). -Where... am I? What is this place? -he could only mutter, before taking a few steps forward.
Indeed, it was just as he thought. He wasn't in the village anymore. The air wasn't filled by the sea breeze, but with grains of sand that the blue-eyed teen started to consider an annoyance soon enough, as they made his eyes itchy. The younger of the Kazan siblings then decided that, despite staying put wouldn't take him anywhere, it would be better to do so until he could walk unhindered by that dust.
Taking a look around as well as he managed to, he found a cavity that he could use as shelter for the time being. There, he would've time to begin thinking how could he got sucked by his computer screen and end up in a place he'd never seen before. Where on Earth was he, anyways? Perhaps that was in Africa? Or maybe in America? Although a part of him wished he wasn't far away from home, the landscape proved him wrong whenever he looked at it.
As he stepped inside the small cave, however... something burned on his chest for a split second.-"What now...? Did I get more hurt than I thought...?" He wouldn't have any time to think about that, because suddenly, he passed through the wall he was leaning on! Tripping, the teen got a hold of himself and regained ballance in a swift move, looking forward. His chest burned a little more than before.

Not knowing what to do, he decided to keep advancing through the corridor he was now in. It seemed unending, although that could be because of the darkness that filled the area. As he walked past the stone walls, he began to see something at the end... light? Maybe it would take him to an open area? It was not like he could back off at that time, for there was nothing more than a sandstorm in the part of the Valley he had come from. As he reached closer and closer for the light, he prepared himself for what could be awaiting him.
Finally, the boy passed through the exit of the corridor... only to find an amazing view. Light filtered from a hole in the ceiling, revealing a huge, semi-spherical cavity. Water filled the two sides of the room, and a great, wide path was it's center, with a plethora of statues on each side holding the Japanese symbol for "Hi", fire.
-"Wow... what is this place...?" -Ryuu thought, advancing while beholding the beautiful sight. It was almost like a... sanctuary? At least, that was the impression it gave to the human boy. As soon as he passed through the first of the statues, the torches they were holding lightened up in fire. That should've surprised the teen... but after being sucked by the computer and making a wall disappeared... it just seemed like a dream. Indeed, that was what he had been thinking the whole time.
Everything would turn much more strange when a voice echoed inside the room. -You have been connected to this world. Ryuu then turned around, looking for the source of the voice. -What? Who are you? Where are you hiding? The voice, however, seemed to ignore him completely, and continued the cryptic speech.
-Tied to the Digimon... And soon to be greeted by a new strength... The teen kept looking everywhere, without any clue of what could be going on. -What are you talking about? Speak clearly! You're making no sense! -the teen said, but he was then surprised by a fire tornado appearing in front of him. As it faded, it revealed a strange, ancient item.
-"What...? Why does... my chest burn...?"

The moment the burst of flames vanished, it left a glowing, strange artifact floating in front of Ryuu, who was left speechless. He pinched himself one, two, then three times. It wasn't a dream... had he gone mad? -"Wait... if I was mad, I wouldn't be able to think I was..." -he reasoned, but then he could hear the voice once more. -Now... you can't choose. This is your fate... the new Warrior of Fire... but will you accept it, and strive, or deny it, and vanish alongside your legacy...? Think carefully, now... -the voice spoke again.
-You know... you're starting to annoy me. You keep saying that this is my fate, yet if I refuse it, I die. Wouldn't it be easier for us both if you just kept quiet? It's not like I have much of a chance, do I? -the young Kazan asked, addressing the cryptic voice. He was getting tired of the mind games they were playing on him. To his surprise, however, there was a laughter following that sentence.
-What are you laughing at?! -the teen asked, but he was then surprised by the answer. -Ah, I see. You truly have the fire within you... It's just a matter of waking it up. Every person has it... but your flame burns bright and strong, although it has only awakened a tiny part of its power. Now then... As the new Warrior of Fire, it isn't just you and your burning spirit... but also, the ancient warriors must acknowledge your strength too. Otherwise... you won't be able to grow into what you'll eventually become, young man -the mysterious will spoke once more.
Ryuu then looked at the ancient item, knowing that it had something to do with him. He tried to touch it, but something surprised the young boy. The first two statues of the room began shaking, breaking their shells and turning into stone warriors that faced him, each of them wielding a Zweihänder. As they stepped forward, the human boy backed off, away from the item.
-"What...?" -he thought. -This is the trial that decides if you truly are the new Warrior of Fire. If Now... go! -the mysterious voice called out, as the two figures prepared to swing their massive weapons at the boy. The kid tried to cover himself with his arms, to no avail. They were about to hit, but then...!
Time appeared to stop for a second. A glowing item, different from before, appered next to the Kazan, with him unconsciously reaching for it with his hand. It was a strange device, although he didn't have time to examine it, for the ancient item from before flew off and entered the artifact! -Gah! -Ryuu gasped, as his body became engulfed in fractal code and fire.
A portal appeared behind him, and the figures moved again, with one of them stopping the attack and knocking him towards it. His body still transforming, he could only hear the mysterious voice once more... -Ryuu... No, young Warrior of Fire! Find the strength of the your predecessors! Then, come to this place when your flame is strong enough to light up the deepest darkness! If you make it there... I'll grant you the ultimate power of the element! -instead of soft like before, the voice now was like thunder, silencing Ryuu's scream as he disappeared through the mysterious breach between dimensions...
What awaited him on the other side?
