"You know I have a life to get back to, right?" Hiro called out as he blew his hair out of his face. He still hadn't gotten used to the odd ponytail the Digital World had give him. He kind of missed his short hair.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. But your back into it boy. These little'un ain't going to feed themselves."
Hiro groaned and disregarded Cherrymon's advice. He lifted the crate with his legs and slowly made his way back towards the Village of Beginnings with the day's supply of food. He wished he could say he was going fast, but Cherrymon was keeping pace with him on that cane, so progress was slow.
He had lost count of how many days he had been working in the village. It had all blurred together in a swirl of working and exhaustion but he was feeling a bit better. Cherrymon was kind of a jerk, but he had basically worked out all the grief that Hiro had been feeling, mostly by yelling at him and making Hiro do more work if he thought he was moping.
The fact that one of the many eggs that laid around the village contained Tetsu helped raise Hiro's mood to something resembling normal. Though Cherrymon was still being damn coy about how Hiro could find Tetsu's egg. Damn slave driver.
"Ugh... how much food do these little guys need?" Hiro complained. This was like, the twelfth box he had lugged so far. And why was the food contained so far away too? It wasn't like the baby Digimon knew how to open locks. None of them had appendages.
"Little tykes are black holes, I tell ya." Cherrymon grumbled good naturally. He had been in a good mood lately. Mostly because he had a slave volunteer to help out for a bit.
"Yeah, yeah." Hiro sighed as he finally got the crate to it's place. His relief was quickly turned to panic as a bunch of baby Digimon rushed him and tackled him. The baby Digimon were kind of weird around Hiro. A lot of them were kind of weary of his presence, he was a newcomer after all. But a few of them just seemed to love to smother him as much as possible.
"Ack, no, wait," Hiro yelped as he was dogpiled by a bunch of baby Digimon. He managed to raise a single hand up into the air as they all covered him. "Help!"
"Meh, you'll be fine." Cherrymon dismissed Hiro as he easily picked up the crate with one hand and started to distribute the food among the babies.

Hiro made managed to dig his way out of the pile of baby Digimon. Thankfully, Cherrymon's grumbling about how the babies should stop playing and eat their food and gotten most of them off of him. He had picked himself up and carried the few stragglers that were attached to him to their food bowls and coxed them to eat.
"Ugh... I'm covered in baby slobber." Hiro groaned as he wiped his face with a hand before flicking the excess saliva off his hand.
"Yeah, you get used to it." Cherrymon called out as he walked around, various baby Digimon hanging off his many branches and playing around. Hiro looked over at the sight and chuckled. He had never really done babysitting before, and while it was hard work it was rewarding in its own way.
"Geez," Hiro groaned as he stretched his arms upwards. "I wonder how much longer I'm going to be here."
Cherrymon stumped his way over to Hiro. The baby Digimon fed and tuckered out from playing were now sleeping peacefully in his branches, one baby Popomon sleeping quietly in his arm.
"Mmm, you have been here for a while, boy." Cherrymon carefully set the Popomon into one of the many baskets that littered the village. The baby Digimon yawned before curling up into a more comfortable position. "And you've done quite a bit of work too."
Hiro's eyes widened as he realized what Cherrymon was alluding to. "Wait, so does that mean...?"
"I guess I should make do with my side of the bargain." Cherrymon nodded as he tugged as his mustache. "This village is a place of rebirth. Digimon that have been deleted have their data come here before they're reborn as a Digitama. We take care of any Digimon that hatches here until they're ready to leave or are picked up?"
"Picked up?" Hiro repeated before flinching from the glare that Cherrymon sent him. The old man did not like to be cut off.
"Yes. Many times Digimon visit annually to take their brethren home. Sometimes we get a Digimon looking for an old friend. And occasionally, we get a Tamer that finds their way here." Cherrymon looked over at Hiro who looked sad. He continued. "The thing is, it is normally impossible to tell who will hatch out of what egg. While some species have similar egg patterns for their Digitama, there's no real grantee that it'll be the same Digimon. You won't know until it hatches."
"I sense a 'but' coming up." Hiro smiled up at Cherrymon who grumbled about children interrupting.
"But, you Tamers are the exception to that rule. You are connected to your Digimon. If you harness that connection, I'm sure you'll be lead to your partner."
Having said his piece, Cherrymon left the boy to his own thought.
"My connection, huh?" It was kind of vague advice, but it had a touch of something in it that Hiro felt like it would work. He tried to just think about Tetsu and see if that did anything, but that only depressed him a bit as he remembered that Tetsu wasn't there right now. The only thing he had with him was his...
"Digivice." Hiro whispered as he pulled out the blue device. The screen was still full of static, but the color of the Digivice was more vibrant than before. Right after Tetsu had been deleted, the thing had seemed dull and unresponsive, now it was a bit closer to its original color. "How did Tetsu describe it? The physical manifestation of our bond."
"Oh, did you think of something?" Cherrymon looked over at Hiro who was jogging over to him with a determined look.
"Yeah. I think I did." Hiro gripped his Digivice tightly. "I'm going to go find Tetsu."
"Ha. Go right ahead. One less mouth for me to feed." Cherrymon chortled.
Hiro nodded gratefully to the tree before turning around and walking towards the field of Digital Eggs. He walked through the eggs with his Digivice held out, waiting for a reaction.

Hiro felt a bit odd after the initial high of 'I'm going to find Tetsu' fell away. He was walking through a bunch of eggs in a field that seemed like it was made out of that baby proofing stuff and holding a fist sized blue device like it was dousing equipment that was going to lead him to treasure. He felt a little ridiculous.
"Geez, there are dozens and dozens of eggs." Hiro murmured even as a Nyokimon hopped over to him and cooed. Hiro picked it up, only wincing mildly at the feeling of the Digimon's gelatinous body, and rocked it a bit before placing it down in one of the baskets lying around. He patted the little seed Digimon on the top of its leaf and apologized that he couldn't play. "Unless this thing decides to start working again, I don't know how I'm going to find Tetsu."
Hiro fiddled with the Digivice, shaking it, pressing and holding buttons, and in a bit of ridiculousness driven by a little desperation, gnawed on it a little. After all that failed to do anything to fix it (or do any damage to it to Hiro's relief), Hiro sighed and sat down on the ground. He ignored a small group of baby Digimon as they hopped over to him and started climb on him like a jungle gym and looked thoughtfully at this Digivice.
"Our bond will lead us back together." Hiro said as he pulled the Digivice away from a Botamon that was trying to swallow it. He grunted as a Yuramon had latched onto his ponytail and pulled his head back. He carefully got the Digimon to release him. Stupid ponytail, stupid Digital World. What kind of world grew someone's hair out and dyed a streak through it. It made no sense.
"No sense..." Hiro said aloud a bit thoughtfully. Tetsu said that the Digital World didn't follow the same rules that the Human World did. Maybe this was the same thing. He was thinking too literally, that the Device would act like a locator. Maybe he needed to try something nonsensical.
He stood up, displacing a bunch of of the baby Digimon who started crying. He panicked and took a moment to calm all the baby Digimon down, a lengthy process before walking deeper into the village and holding his Digivice up in his palm. Hiro closed his eyes and thought about Tetsu. All of the time they spent together, the good and the bad, the exciting and the mundane. He brought it all to mind and raised the Digivice to his lips.
"Lead me to him... please..." Hiro whispered.
A screeching noise broke Hiro's trance and he looked down at the Digivice in his hands. It was glowing and shaking in his hand. Before he could grip the Digivice, it rose out of his hands and started floating. Hiro stared in bewilderment before reaching out to grasp it. The Digivice floated forward just out of his reach. A little annoyed, Hiro took another swing to grab it. Again it dodged his swipe. Hiro growled as the Digivice started to float away from him.
"Get back here!" Hiro yelled out as he chased after his glowing Digivice.

"Just where are you taking me?" Hiro yelled as he chased the glowing blue light. The Digivice was floating ahead of him like it was leading him. It would float forward and if he fell behind the Digivice would stay still for a bit to let him catch up.
Well, he was hoping for the Digivice to do something and lead him to Tetsu, so he couldn't exactly complain too much.
A few more minutes of running and the Digivice seemed to finally stop. Hiro jogged closer to the glowing Digivice and slowly reached for it. Rather than dodging his grasp like it had the first few times he tried to grab it, the Digivice flew into his hands.
"Oh." Hiro murmured as he caught the Digivice. The screen was no longer full of static, but was displaying the map function. There was a glowing dark blue dot in the center that he knew represented him and another dark blue dot blinking to his front. Hiro walked a few steps forward and found the egg that the Digivice was indicating. Hiro knelt down to the egg and raised a hand towards it, but faltered. His hand hovering right over the egg without touching it.
"It's... different." Hiro realized as he stared at the egg. He couldn't recall the exactly pattern that Tetsu's egg had on it's shell, but he could recall it had some purple lines on it. The egg in front of him was covered in dark blue ovals.
Hiro stared at the egg and his mind raced for different reasons why the egg would be different, but he stopped himself. He wouldn't get anywhere if he kept trying to out think himself. He needed to move forward. Yet, despite resolving himself in his mind, Hiro's hand trembled over the egg.
"Tetsu."
With trembling hands, Hiro picked up the Digiegg and held it to his chest. Reacting to his actions, his Digivice started to glow, it glowed so bright that he had to close his eyes. When he opened his eyes, he reflexively squeezed the egg in his arms.
"Ugu~" Hiro blinked as the egg in his hands gave into his grip. He squeezed it again and it compressed a bit in his arms and gave another cooing noise.
"Huh?" Hiro looked down. There was no egg in his arms, instead there was a blue baby Digimon in his arms. It was blue and had a little tuft of hair on the top of its head. "Chicomon?"
"Uuu." The baby Digimon cooed happily in his arms.
"What? But... Tetsu..." Tetsu was a Dodomon when he hatched. "What? Did... did I grab the wrong one?"
"Uuu!" Chicomon shouted before latching onto Hiro's face who yelped in surprise. Hiro swung his arms wildly and fell backwards as the Chicomon refused to release him. The other baby Digimon around him saw that and decided that it meant that Hiro was ready to play again.
Hiro finally managed to pull Chicomon from his face when a group of baby Digimon tackled him. He yelped again and since his guard fell, Chicomon latched onto his face once more.
Though there was much confusion to follow, though there were challenges ahead of them, Hiro and Tetsu were reunited once again, even if Hiro didn't know it just yet. The blue Digivice gleamed happily on the ground where Hiro dropped it, content that it had done it's job to connect the two once again.
