"Remind me why I trusted you to find a hotel?" Jackson mumbled as he walked through the hot desert. It seemed like they had been trapped inside this endless pit of sand, not even knowing where they were heading off to. He kept telling Shortmon they should head back, but his partner insisted that this was the appropriate direction. He claimed to have been through here before, but Jackson didn't truly believe him. It seemed as if Shortmon has been everywhere in this world.
Besides being lost, the sun seemed to beat down harder than ever on the two unfortunate beings. Jackson felt like he could collapse into the hot sand at any given moment, and Shortmon was barely making it through, but tried to stay positive. It wasn't getting past Jackson though, he could tell the digimon goofed up.
"Look! It's right up there!" Shortmon announced, sounding a mix of excited and exhausted. In the distance they could see the outline of what seemed to be buildings, which they assumed meant it had digimon living in them. Some of them possibly were restaurants, and others shops. But they had no clue about what happened to the town. They never heard of it turning to ruins.
When they entered the ruins, both of their faces changed from a somewhat happy expression, to a face that said "Kill me now!". Jackson was filled with frustration when they discovered the fact that this entire site was just a pile of ruble and debris. Shortmon felt embarased and mentally facepalmed himself. All they could do now was hope there was a source of water nearby.
"So is this the FABU-" Jackson was cut off.
"Freeze!" said a booming voice. From the top of a building was a bulky looking machine. It didn't stay there for long, as it had jumped off one of the somewhat stable buildings. When it landed on the sand, Jackson and Shortmon could plainly see the gun like object emerging from the arm of the machine. They especially saw the machine in all of it's glory. It was big and bulky, had a nice shine to it but wasn't perfect, and to Jackson, it resembled a stove in a way. Especially the door on its chest.
"Uh...." Jackson mumbled at a loss for words. The appearance was all so sudden, and he wasn't sure on what he would even say. The expression this bulky mass had was hard to pick out since it didn't have much of a face. You had to guess by the eyes. But the two couldn't seem to pick out what the machine digimon was thinking. But he did like the digimon, it was alert and active. That is something very attractive to Jackson, and he wanted it on his team.
"You seem fine," The Guardromon said as the gun folded back into his arm.
"If you are wondering who I am, then my name is Guardromon. I've spent my time here after it was demolished, not many people come here." The digimon seemed to soften up a bit, and more likeable. Shortmon wasn't sure what to think, but he left the thinking up to Jackson. He is the general after all, and he was also to tired to really care. On the other hand, Jackson seemed to gain a new abundance of energy, and part of it came from the Guardromon.
"So how long have you been stuck here?" Jackson asked curiously.
"I've lost track of time... But I know it's been a long time." The Guardromon sighed and looked at the sun, using it as a reference to time. For him, time was morning, evening, and night. It was easier for him to label it as such, and he didn't have to worry about being late to anything. He was pretty laid back around the ruins, but it got lonely.
"Well... How about you give us a ride out of this desert.. and... I'll let you come with us!" Jackson offered, not even sure if the Guardromon would agree. Shortmons eyes widened as Jackson finished his sentence. It was a good thing for him, especially since he could Xros into something stronger than the form he is currently in. He wouldn't be surprised if the Guardromon declined, however. They were strangers, and it would be a new way of life for him.
"Well..." The machine spoke, not sure what to say.
"Did we mention that we can cook?!" Shortmon threw into the mix.
"So about that ride!" Guardromon spoke, lifting Jackson into his arms, and Shortmon being moved to inside of the Xros Loader. Jackson couldn't help but smile. It was shot in the dark, but luckily he didn't miss. Shortmon was also very excited, but he was mostly excited for the part when he would get to Xros with the new memeber.
