Digimon Everywhere [Kai Haimura]

Adjusting to a Digimon partner was already proving to be difficult. After having dinner with his mum and dad for their 20th wedding anniversary, Kirito had completely forgotten to save some of the leftovers for Terriermon to eat, so when he went into his room, the expression on Terriermon's face was a little, dire. Feeling awful and sorry for the little rabbit Digimon, Kirito turned to his parents and told them that he left his laptop back at Miyashita Park and needed to go get it now or it might not be there the next day. They were resistant at first, his mother especially. She didn't like the thought of her son walking around at night, especially in a dark park where anything could happen, she even brought up the rumours of people being attacked at night in parks, something that had been on the channel 6 new frequently.
After sweet talking his parents for what seemed like ten minutes, they finally gave in and allowed him to go. This was all a total lie however. Kirito had his laptop in his bag and made sure to pick it up when leaving the house, this was all a simple ploy so that he could take Terriermon to get something to eat, but in the same token, it gave his parents some alone time on their anniversary.
Kirito, bag over his shoulders and his spare pair of shoes on his feet made his way down to the first floor, exiting through the reception and walking around the side of the building. Looking up into the air to where his bedroom window was, he could just barely see Terriermon climbing out before leaping, expanding his ears as he began to slowly descend. It was a long drop, his home being on the 14th floor, the second from the top.
When Terriermon had fallen into arms reach, Kirito took hold of him and placed him behind his head so that the little Digimon was standing on his shoulders with his ears dangling on either side of Kirito's face. "What do you feel like eating?" Kirito asked, looking up at his Digimon as he began to walk towards the park. "I don't know, food." Terriermon stated, taking grip of his Tamer's hair as they started to move.
After a good twenty minutes, the two of them had arrived a Miyashita Park where a few late night food stands were still open. It was roughly 9:00pm and most of these little food stalls closed at 8:30pm, but Kirito knew of one or two that stayed open till 9:30pm for those people travelling home late from work. The two of them approached the food stand and peered inside, the scent of the food swimming under both their noses. "That is Okonomiyaki" He said, pointing at something that resembled a pancake. "That is Yaki Imo." Pointing at the baked sweet potato before pointing to the next. "And that is Ikayaki, which is grilled squid."
The man at the stand looked at Kirito funny, who the hell was he talking to? It was at this moment that Kirito remembered that Terriermon was supposed to pretend to be a stuffed animal and when he looked up at his Digimon partner, he was as stiff as a stuffed animal, he had remembered what he had to do around other humans and with this, Kirito let out a heavy sigh of relief.

"Hungry! Hungry! Hungry!" A loud chant rose from something that looked somewhat like a pure white hamster. "Pipe down Shiro! Mom will hear you!" The human boy was at his wits end with the creature, known as a Digimon. Shiro didn't understand how tight the human boy's budget was, nor how much worse it was when he had to pay to feed two digimon. "Don't care. Hungry!"
By now, the noisy white Digimon had woken up his twin, identical to him in all but color. With a yawn, she said, "Just give in already, Kai. You know how he is when he gets like this. The only things that can shut him up are feeding him, or something he finds even more interesting." The black digimon yawned, and walked over to Kai. Kai sighed. He didn't want the white Kokkurimon thinking he could get anything he wanted if he yelled loud enough, but... He didn't want his new friends taken away, either.
"You're right. I give up. Let's go. Be quiet, Shiro." Corralling the twin Digimon into his school bag, he headed towards the door. He only paused to call back to his parents, "I'm heading out! I'll back later!" "Are you sure? It's quite dark. Can't it wait until morning?" His mother replied, but he was already gone.
Kai thought that Shiro was being unusually quiet. Shiro was never quiet. "Shiro?" He ventured. "Don't worry. He's only being quiet because I'm holding him down." This made him feel much better than it probably should have. His relief, however, was broken along with Shiro's silence as the trio passed by Miyashita Park.
"Pop?" the white Digimon spoke tentatively at first, then repeated in a louder voice, "Pop!" before promptly exiting Kai's bag, despite Kuro's best efforts. "Oh, come on!" The agitation in the black Digimon's voice was obvious, as her brother ran straight into the park. He noted that she seemed more agitated than usual with Shiro's antics, and seriously regretted that Shiro did this enough for him to notice that.
The source of both Shiro's excitement and Kuro's agitation quickly became evident. There before him stood a boy, with, on his shoulder, the spitting image of Pop, a partner of his friend, Yui. Kuro had failed to get along with either of Yui's two partners, ever since they had met when Yui had saved Shiro from revealing himself, by capturing him and dragging him into an alley. Shiro and Kai had forgiven them for that, but Kuro refused to. But what was Pop doing here, and where was Yui? More importantly, how could he catch SHiro, before he revealed himself to everyone there? He found himself diving for the white fluffball, as he saw that Shiro was preparing to call out to 'Pop.'

'Um... Can I please get one Okonomiyaki, one Yaki Imo and two Ikayaki please." Kirito said to the man behind the food cart. Although it wasn't fine dining or anything like that, Kirito often stopped here for food when he was on his way home after a long day, mostly because when he was heading home it was dark at night and he hadn't eaten anything yet. The man pulled out a set of chopsticks and picked the requested items, placing them into a brown paper bag and handing them across the display. Taking hold of the bag, Kirito reached into his pocket and pulled out some loose change, checking it in the palm of his hand to make sure he had the right amount before handing it to the man. With the exchange complete, Kirito bowed to the man before taking his leave.
Walking a little further into the park so that they were further from the man and his food cart, Kirito looked up at his Digimon and raised the baked sweet potato to him. "You can move now." He stated, far enough from the man to not notice the creature on Kirito's shoulders acting alive. "Finally!" He stated, taking hold of the baked sweet potato with on of his hands, sniffing it a little before taking a small bite. "Mmm yummy!" He stated with glee, now starting to take larger bites. "Don't eat to fast, you will choke!" Kirito said firmly, reaching up and taking hold of his partner and placing him on the nearby park bench as he ate. "This is good!" Terriermon exclaimed using his left ear to pat the bench beside him, indicating for Kirito to sit down, which he did. "Yeah I always go here when I am running late home and skipped dinner."
It was at this moment that Terriermon's ears began to twitch, he stopped eating and looked over in the distance. "I hear something." He stated, squinting his eyes to see in the darkness. The area in which they were sitting was dark, the only form of light was one of the lamp posts not too far from their location, but the light only provided outlines of objects nearby, nothing was clearly visible. "What do you hear?" Kirito asked, cupping his free hand over on of his ears as if it would help him hear better. "Pop." Kirito looked to his Digimon with a confused expression. "Pop?"

Shiro easily escaped from Kai's reckless tackle, earning the boy quite a few strange looks for the resulting faceplant. The fall also threw Kuro out of his bag, and the black Digimon took advantage of this to chase after her white brother. Kai also pulled himself up, and continued the chase. In the end, however, they both were too late, as Shiro caught up to the boy with the Digimon on his shoulder. "Pop!?" The white digimon paused and sniffed the air. "No... Not Pop?" He grew confused from the disconnection between what his eyes and nose were telling him.
Shiro's confusion gave Kai and Kuro a chance to catch up. Despite being out of breath, Kai tried to explain himself. "Sorry... This guy..." Kai waved towards the small white Digimon, whose colors made him extremely visible even in the poor lighting. "Does whatever... he wants. I hope he hasn't... Inconvenienced you." The subject in question just sat there, still trying to figure out how a Digimon could simultaneously be and not-be Pop. Kuro, on the other hand, stood silently, allowing her black pelt to blend in with the night. Not being Pop didn't make her trust this new Digimon and it's tamer any more.

Terriermon had completely stopped eating, holding the baked sweet potato in his hands as he looked at the white creature that seemingly came out of no where. Kirito, a little concerned, bent down to Terriermon's ear and whispered. "Good or bad?" Referring to the Digimon looking at them. The last Digmon they had met was an enemy, attacking both Kirito and his Digimon in an ally behind the corner market near his house, though in saying that, it was because of this that he had Digivolved into Terriermon.
Terriermon shrugged to Kirito's question and slid of the edge of the bench, landing softly with his ears flopping down onto the ground beside him. "Hi!" Terriermon smiled, raising his free hand with a little wave. It was at this moment that an exact replica of the Digimon, only black and a human came running out of nowhere, the boy was clearly out of breath and Kirito was still confused with the situation. "Inconvenienced?" He turned to Terriermon and stood up from his seat. "No, not at all. But it seems to be confused about something." Though so was Kirito.

Up close, it was obvious that this was not, in fact, Pop. Mostly because his ears were green, and Pop's were blue. Perhaps a relative? He still wasn't sure how Digimon relatedness worked, only that Kuro and Shiro called themselves siblings. He didn't plan to make a detailed study of Digimon biology anytime soon, though. Was it even considered biology, given that they were from another world? What a headache. Though, that may have been caused by the spectacular fall he took.
"Ah, I believe I can explain that. You see, your partner looks... Extremely similar to a partner of a friend of ours, who is nicknamed Pop. The partner, that is. Not the friend." He thought he heard a tiny scoff in the shadows when he said the word friend. He wouldn't be surprised if he had. Kuro always acted strange when it came to Yui. "Man, a few days ago, I hadn't even heard about Digimon. Now, I run into them everywhere I go!"

The two of them listened to the young man's explanation, looking to one another before Kirito decided to speak up and interrupt. "Wait a second." He said, looking slightly confused but at the same time, it looked as if his brain was processing everything. "These two..." He pointed down to the white and black Digimon hesitantly, he didn't know what they were like and the last thing he wanted was for one of the to jump up and bite his finger off. "They are your partners?" He asked.
Terriermon walked over to the white one, snapping a piece of the baked sweet potato off and holding it out to the white Digimon. "Here, its yummy!" He stated with a smile, turning to the black on a little further away. "Come on, I don't bite! Here, trying some!" He said, attempting to get the black one out of the shadows to join them. The thing about Terriermon was that he was really good at making new friends, in the few hours that Kirito and he had known each other, you could already tell they were 'warm' with each other, like they had known each other for weeks or even months.
When the young man mentioned how he seemed to be running into Digimon everywhere, Kirito couldn't help but let out a little smirk. "I know what you mean." Referring to the event earlier where they had been attacked by a Candlemon. "Though it is good to know that I am not the only one with a Digimon out there." He stated. Kirito honestly thought that he would be the only person with a Digimon partner, but the way the young man spoke, it was as if there were at least one other out there too. "I'm Kirito by the way." He said, raising his hand with a slight wave. "And I am Terriermon!" His Digimon followed, making the same hand gesture.

Kuro stepped out of the shadows, obviously surprised that her camouflage had been seen through so easily. She quickly corrected her expression to one of poise, as though she hadn't been trying to hide in the first place. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. I'm still not really sure what it means to be a partner. So far, it seems to mostly be 'Feed me' and 'I'm hungry.'"
Shiro eyed the not-Pop with suspicion. This being had formidable powers of disguise, it could not be trusted! but what was that it was holding? It looked like... Food!? Shiro darted forward to snag a bite. Instantly, all his misgivings melted away like the potato in his mouth. No Digimon who gave away food as delicious as this, could be a bad Digimon. Kuro, on the other hand, politely rejected the offer. "No, thank you. I already ate. Unlike my brother, I will not starve if I do not eat something between dinner and breakfast." Shiro swallowed his mouthful in order to to ask, "Can I have her share?" In response to which, Kuro only sighed.
"Nice to meet you, Kirito, Terriermon. I am Kai. The glutton is Shiro, and this one is Kuro. He pointed to the Digimon in turn, as he named them.

Kirito couldn't help but laugh at the boys comment about the 'feed me' and 'I'm hungry', turning to his Digimon with a smile. "Yeah it seems to be that way doesn't it, I can't exactly say I know a great deal about having a Digimon as a partner either, we only met a few hours ago." He stated, Terriermon looking up at him with a smile before turning back to the other two Digimon, making sure to snap a piece of the baked sweet potato off to hand to the black Digimon.
The bunny Digimon held out the piece of baked sweet potato out to the black Digimon and it was almost instantly rejected. The white Digimon was eager for more so Terriermon handed the piece he was holding to him, snapping another. Terriermon, with a smile on face sniffed inward so that the steam from the food went up his nose... "Are you sure?" He asked using his ear a little like a fan to cause the steam to drift over to the Digimon's direction. "Doesn't it smell delicious?" He giggled, taking the another bite of the potato.
When they had introduced themselves, or to be more exact Kai introduced them, Kirito smirked looking at each one of them as he went through the introductions. Noticing that the black one, Kuro was more reserved, he walked over to it, kneeling down not too far but not too close to her. "Hey there!" He waved, looking up at the other Tamer with a curious expression. "So you have two?"

Kai watched Shiro snap up even more of the sweet potato, slightly embarassed by his partner's gluttony. Well, at least he wouldn't have to buy food for Shiro, now. Not that he had any doubt his partner would ask anyways. Shiro was... Predictable, like that.Meanwhile, Kuro was still refusing Terriermon's offerings. "Not hungry."
Faced with the advances of a human other than her partner, Kuro replied curtly, "Hello," but did not otherwise respond to him. "Well, yes, I suppose I do. I'm not the only one, I know at least one other person with two partners. I think it makes sense, in a way. They seem to consider themselves siblings, so of course they would have the same tamer." Or at least, he assumed that was how it worked. He'd been a tamer for only a few days, and wasn't certain of anything.

If your not hungry, that is fine, you could at least come over here and join us. Terriermon thought, handing the snapped piece of baked sweet potato over in Shiro's direction before taking another bite into, followed by another until it was all gone. Kirito was a little glad that Kuro at least responded to him and with that, smiled before standing back up to look to her Tamer. Kirito was glad that he was only stuck with one Digimon, he wasn't sure if he could deal with more than one Digimon, then again, if he did have to and they were twins, the thought of giving them to his parents as a couple's item would have worked well too. Kirito had arrived home and told his parents that Terriermon was their anniversary present from him, they rejected it, but at least they hadn't asked anything else about it since he decided to hold onto him. "Have you ever run into enemy Digimon?" Kirito asked, remembering back only a few hours ago where they were attacked by a Candlemon.

Kai had expected Shiro to be disappointed when there was no sweet potato left to eat. Of course, he'd expected that to be much sooner, as he hadn't thought that Terriermon would share that much of his meal. Of course, he shouldn't be surprised that anyone was less gluttonous than the bottomless pit that Shiro could seem to be. Instead of being disappointed, however, Shiro started prancing around the larger Digimon. "Wanna play, Terriermon?"
Kai left the Digimon to their own devices while he talked to Kirito. "No, I can't say that I have. I have run into quite a few tamers, though. A surprising amount, actually. I don't think a day's gone by since I met these two, that I didn't run into someone or other with a Digimon partner. " It was true. First he met Yui, with the twins, then there was that girl in this very park, and the man named Shi who he was slightly distrustful of. Now, there was Kirito and Terriermon. Would he ever have a day of rest, to let his new life soak in? "Why, have you?"

When Shiro started prancing around him and asking to play, Terriermon looked up at his Tamer with a concerned expression which Kirito knew exactly what he was concerned about. "Its okay Terriermon, you can eat it on the way home." Terriermon was concerned that he wouldn't get to eat the rest of his meal, but at the same time he really did want to play as well. With Kirito's words as encouragement, Terriermon turned back to Shiro and smiled. "Okay!" His voice quite enthusing, running off so that Shiro could chase him.
Kirito nodded when Kai asked about encountering an enemy Digimon. "Yeah, only a few hours ago." He stated softly, turning back to his Digimon to watch him play as he continued. "He Digivolved to save me, though it was still pretty close." Taking note of the fact that he could have almost died back there. "A Digimon called Candlemon." Kirito reached into his pocket and walked over to Kai, pulling out his device (Digivice) and pressing one or two buttons to bring up data that it had scanned, an image of Candlemon and information on it was now displayed on the screen. "It was only a Rookie so it wasn't like Terriermon was at a huge disadvantage, but he attacked while he was in his In-Training form, I think we would have lost, or you know, been killed if he hadn't Digivolved."
Kirito pulled back the device and placed it back into his pocket, though a part of him wanted to still hold it in his hand as it, for some reason, felt natural in a sense. "So anyway, do you live around here?" He asked, though it was probably an odd question to ask something like that to a complete stranger, next it would probably seem like Kirito was some kind of stalker.

Shiro happily chased after Terriermon. "You'll never escape me moving that slowly!" Conveniently, Shiro was ignoring the fact that he was moving even slower. Kuro, who would have rolled her eyes at her brother if such an expression were visible on her pure black eyes, chose not to join the two playful Digimon. The black Kokkurimon chose instead to sit down at her tamers feet, trying to catch the sleep she'd lost when Shiro woke her up. The tamer in question watched Shiro and Terriermon playing, with a smile.
The device they boy took out looked familiar, but it took him a moment to place it. It was the same thing that Shi had dropped the other day. He was struck by a curiosity as to what it was, but let refused to ask, so he didn't interrupt. "Rookie? In-training?" Great, even someone who had been a tamer for only a few hours already knew more than Kai. Small wonder he wasn't good at anything.
"Oh! Uhh..." Kai paused, still vaguely distracted by his curiosity about the device and his own self loathing. "Yeah, I live over in the Western district. How about you?"

Terriermon burst into a fit of giggles as he expanded his wings, taking flight into the air and gliding in circles above Shiro like a vulture. "Catch me now!" He poked his tongue out, not taking notice of his surroundings and flying straight into a low tree branch, falling to the ground with a thud. "Ouchie!" He stated, reaching up and rubbing his forehead where he had hit the tree. Kirito, instinctively shuffled a little to go see if his Digimon was okay, but barely made a step when Terriermon got back up laughing. Kirito smirked at this before turning back to Kai.
"Oh, um... Terirermon explained the basics... When a Digimon hatches from its egg, it is at the 'Fresh' stage. It then evolves into the 'In-Training' stage and then 'Rookie'." Kirito turned back to his Digimon, shouting over his laughter. "Terriermon, what are the stages after Rookie again?" Terriermon, running about called back with giggles in between words. "C-Champion hahaha and hehehe Ultimate! Bahahah!" Kirito turned back to Kai with an expression on his face basically stating 'there you go'.
"Oh really?" Kirito, surprised by the fact that Kai lived in the Western District. "So do I. I live in an apartment complex... How about you?" He was actually wondering if the two of them lived in the same building. Kirito didn't take time to get to know his neighbours so he wasn't even sure if there were kids his own age there.
