As of late, Lana has been left without little to no “adult supervision” which let her have a great deal of free roam, in the mostly empty park. She found herself sat in a far corner, lying flat on the black top, a handful of colourful chalks clasped between her fingers, her tongue stuck out in fierce concentration.
“A 'lickle' more. Oh, n' here too,” she muttered to herself in her childish happy-go-lucky voice. Her various chalk drawings, which had now coated half of the playground stood out in the remaining sun which still shone through the grey haze of clouds over a twilight-purple sky.
She stood up and looked at her creations, happily – the largest being a half-green dinosaur and half humanoid girl. It was starting to grow colder now, making the girl shiver and forcing her to pull the dinosaur-head hood up. “So sweepy, should go eat,” she pulled her backpack over her shoulder, pushing the chalks in and then wandering away from the park. As she skipped away, her phone chirped with a high-pitch sound. She flipped her phone from her coat pocket. That is when something rather unusual, happened; the bright LCD screen lit up with message which read,
"9999 messages, received"
Although, when she looked a the messages themselves – each of them was completely blank except for a layer of random gibberish at the bottom. “Silly, silly technology,” she said, pushing the phone back into her pocket and shaking her head, continuing to walk away from the park.

"Kai! I'm hungry!" Kai looked up at the white creature which had spoken, then looked around the park. No one was there, no one had heard, which was good. "Kuro? What about you?" Kai asked the black creature which lay across his shoulders. The Digimon, who looked something like a ferret or a weasel, only with fur, skin, and eyes of a purest black, replied, "I suppose I could go for something," much to her brother's approval. "Well, I suppose that settles it," Kai said, gathering his things.
It was fortunate, Kai supposed, that the current forms of his Digimon looked so much like actual animals. Until they spoke, of course. Especially Shiro, the white one, who looked a lot like a cat. While Kuro was sensible enough to hide in Kai's bag in public (after all, who took a ferret for a walk?), Shiro refused. Other than his eyes and the whole talking thing, Shiro could easily be confused for a cat from a distance. Which was good, because despite numerous warnings, Shiro did not believe in consequences, or in staying hidden.
On the way out of the park, Shiro trotting ahead and Kuro securely stowed away, Kai noted a strange person walking ahead of him. Were they wearing a dinosaur onesie? It seemed to be a girl, and not a particularly old one at that. Whoever they were, their phone was beeping. Weren't they going to answer it?

It was getting progressively darker, the sky had changed to a deep dark-blue now. By the time, Lana reached the park gates, night had pretty much fallen. Her phone, still tucked deep in her pocket, continued to chirp loudly every few minutes as more junk messages were received.
Attempting to ignore it, she made her way through the gates, pulling up the hood on her onesie as she did so – which now completely hid her face from view and tucked her hands into her pockets to shield them from the cold air.
As she passed the gates, quite suddenly, she heard the unmistakable sound of someone walking towards her. She turned quickly, squinting to see who it was; as she spent so much time in the park nowadays, she knew most people who came in on a regular basis. Still ignoring the beeping emanating from the folds of her pocket, she skipped forward to greet the people in ahead of her, completely ignoring the 'not talking to strangers thing' she had been taught. “Hallo, who 'dere?”

The darkening sky told Kai that it was time to leave. He had been leaving anyways, but now he knew it was the right choice. All that remained was deciding where to take the two Digimon to eat. Probably fast food. It was cheap, and he wouldn't have to wait. Waiting was always a danger, as Shiro was prone to causing scenes if left to his own devices. Kai was vaguely jealous of the fact that Yui's partners could take the form of humans. On the other hand... The thought of Shiro in a human body, terrified him deeply. The critter was impossible to handle at his current size, what could Kai do if they were the same size?
Being lost in thought, he barely registered that he was being spoken to. "Hmm? What?" Oh, it was the girl in the dinosaur costume. He glanced at the white cat walking near them. Fortunately, Shiro was facing away, so she couldn't see his eyes. He just hoped that the impossible would happen, and the Digimon would keep his mouth shut. And what had she asked? 'who dere?' Was she asking who he was? It seemed a safe guess. "Oh, I'm Kai. Can I help you?

Lana skipped back down the gravel path back towards the guy, she had called out too. She waved at him brightly, her exceptionally puffy dinosaur sleeves flying wildly as she did so. “Nice to meet'cha! I am Lana,” she said quickly, looking the guy up and down. He was a rather average-looking guy with rough, messy brown hair and glasses perched on the end of his nose. In face, he was slightly boring looking, Lana believe it was much more fun to be spontaneous in appearance and clothing choices.
Her eyes flew down to his feet and across the path to a white cat standing a short way away from her, although it was facing away from her, so she was unable to see the face. “Cute kitty!” She bent down and attempted to call it over with various silly sounding noises but to not avail. Quite suddenly, her phone began to chirp again loudly from the depths of her pocket, forcing her to pull it out and press all of the buttons, wildly. Attempting to turn it off did absolutely nothing, the phone refused to do anything other than, pinging louder and louder.
“I sorry,” she said to Kai. “I can't fix it, silly technology,” she shook it, up and down. Something very strange happened after that, the phone which was still clutched in her hand became painfully hot. Lana attempted to drop it but found herself unable too and then it lit up like a torch, extending a wide beam across the path. “W-what going on?!” She opened her fist and looked at the supposed remains of the phone, sat in her palm. Although, it wasn't a phone at all, at least not anymore. It was now an odd device coloured a mix of red and black with a small LCD screen in the middle of it and a few buttons dotted over the strangely-shaped body.

Kai could not believe his eyes. No, Kai refused to believe his eyes. This could not be happening. But it was. Right before his eyes, the dino-girl's phone had morphed... Into a device with which he was intimately familiar. A Digivice. He had just witnessed someone becoming a Tamer. It wasn't exactly his first time, but still. Why was it that he'd stressed out so much over his digivice, and everyone else's were just there? Perhaps he was right, and he wasn't actually meant to be a tamer? After all, he only had had the word of his Digimon prior to obtaining the digivice, and that had taken some time. Everyone else he knew had gotten theirs at the same time.
At least until now. He couldn't see any sign of Digimon around, and neither Kuro nor Shiro had acted like anything was out of place. That was how he had found the last person who had met their Digimon in front of him. It had been in this very park, in fact. Maybe he should stay away from here for a while. It seemed to attract trouble like nowhere else, except maybe the Digital world. Hey, at least they had all been friendly. Something like Boogiemon showing up in the middle of the park would not end well.
"Well," Kai said, taking out his own Digivice, "This is awkward." Okay, now would be a good time for Shiro to do something stupid.

“Wow, my phone got all cute,” giggling to herself, playing with the weird device in her hands. “So what do I do with dis,” she asked, tilting her head in confusion while absent-mindedly playing with the buttons. Nothing of interest came about from the random button presses, however, so she stowed the new device back in her pocket and shook her head in confusion. However, this caused her hood to fall for the first time, revealing her full face and hair to the guy who stood in front of her.
After a few moments of not talking at all, she looked back up to Kai, who was fumbling around for something, himself. He pulled out his own very similar looking device, except that had a slightly different colour scheme being, black and white.
“Hey, you got one too,” she said, even more confused. “So is this a regular 'fing to happen?”

The girl in the dinosaur hood was taking this in stride. This was not what he had expected. Normally, when your phone turned into a not-a-phone, you would freak out. With her taking it in stride, he wasn't sure how to explain. Also, where were her partners? He wasn't especially experienced with Digimon, but he didn't think that people got Digivices without a Digimon partner. So where was hers? "No. I would, in fact, say it is a most irregular thing to happen." Oh, why was it him that had to explain to this girl? He was probably the least qualified tamer in the world to explain anything.
Noticing that Kai had stopped moving, the white cat in front of him stopped and turned to see what was going on.

“Irregular,” she said simply, pulling the ex-phone back from her pocket and letting it sit in her palm as Lana stared at it with a confused look to her face. “I dun understand...”
Quite suddenly, the device burst into life once more. A light – so startlingly bright burst from the screen, Lana had to turn her gaze away from the device in order to not be blinded. The fantastically bright but extremely unusual glow lit up the park-gates more than any torch could. She attempted to drop it but found herself unable to move.
She turned her head slowly, back towards the screen – to see something bursting out from it. Something round and large. With a final burst of light, the “thing” burst from the screen and it died down to silence once again. The “thing” flew high into the air above them, hovering for a few seconds before falling gracefully into Lana's arms.
“An Egg,” she said looking down at the colourful shell, closely. “A weally big egg – I'd hate to see the size of the chicken that laid this thing.” After a few moments of silence, she asked “So, is that 'irregular' too,” with a bewildered face across her face.

Ah, there it was. A large egg that, while Kai was inexperienced, he knew to be a Digi-egg. How was he going to explain this to the girl? He looked around. Luckily, they were alone, but who knew how long that would last? He needed to get her out of sight. Telling her to come somewhere private with him was too creepy, though. There was no way she would follow along. He needed to explain here, before someone else came along. "Whoa! A Digi-egg!" Shiro spoke up before Kai could even begin. He sighed. "Come on out, Kuro." He'd need all the visual props he could muster.
"Hmm? Oh." Came the response of the black Digimon, poking her head out of the bag. SHe slipped the rest of the way out, resting in her usual place atop his shoulders. "Yes, highly irregular." He sighed. "Fortunately, irregular is the story of my life these days. Well, fortunate for you, at least." His joke went over Shiro's head, but Kuro gave him a small, "Hmph." and turned her nose up.

Lana clutched the egg, closer to herself as if she wanted to keep it safe. She didn't know why but this egg felt special and connected to her and she had to keep it protected. Not that she though that the guy in front of her was going to do anything to hurt it though.
When she looked back to him, he was speaking but not to her, he was talking to someone named, “Kero” – but there was no-one else here, right? She moved back slightly, a little confused and a little scared but mostly curious now.
Something was rustling in his bag and then a tiny black ferret-like creature popped its head out before crawling up his shoulder and draped itself across his shoulders. The weirdest part was that it was speaking, speaking in English. “Y-you, you can talk?” she said, a slight stutter entering her voice for the first time.
Lana decided it was better if she backed away from this situation. She had invented countless creatures of her own on paper, on the black top with chalk and numerous other places but she never ever really believed that they could be real. She always wished, she could make them real, though.
This whole situation was just strange now. It was the first time in her life, she could remember, she felt scared by something...

The girl was backing away. Kai knew it was a lot to take in. It had only been a few weeks since he'd met these two, after all. He still remembered clearly how shocking it all had been. "Of course she can talk!" Shiro declared matter-of factly. Kuro had always been able to talk! Why should that come as a surprise? The white Digimon's thought process was as clear as day, at least to Kai and Kuro, who knew him.
"Sorry, but you'd best get used to it," He pointed to the object she was clutching tightly. "After all, you'll be living with them from now on. From that egg will hatch a creature much like these." On his shoulder, the black creature named Kuro chuckled. "Since when were you so dramatic, Kai?" In response to which he took on a sheepish expression. It was true, he'd been trying to act far more grandiose than his experience warranted. After all, he hadn't even had his Digimon long enough for them to reach the Champion form. He didn't exactly have the right to act like this towards anyone. But how could he help it? It wasn't every day he came across someone who had just met their partner.

Lana simply found herself unable to process the insanity of this situation, her eyes flicked between the talking strange creatures, one a white cat and the other a black ferret. She began to back away, at a quicker pace until she was stopped in place by a brick wall. The egg, itself, was still clutched in her arms which gently shook every so often.
“Tell me som'fin',” she said very clearly. “What are you?” She pointed from the cat creature up to the ferret which was still curled around his neck, her panic quite evident now. “Why did all dis' happen,” she said, edging away across the side of the wall.
He pointed to the egg and said that it would 'hatch a creature much like these' but Lana was unsure if she could deal with her own creature, I mean dealing with the life changing commitment of having a pet monster was something that a fifteen year old didn't normally face.
Her eyes started to well up with big fat tears as she thought it all though. “I dun't understand,” she said loudly in a wail, more her normal voice.

Oh, great. Now she was crying. Maybe he'd gone too far. It was a lot to take in, after all. That girl Paige, who he'd met in a similar situation the other day, had been a lot easier to deal with. Shiro, not noticing the girl's tears, replied, "Shiro is Shiro! Kuro is Kuro! Kai is Kai" with a voice implying that this was obvious. Kuro cut in with, "Please, ignore my idiot of a brother" ("Hey!") "We are Digimon. Digital Monsters," Kuro ignored Shiro's interjection pointedly.
"Please... Calm down, okay? They're strange, I know, but they won't hurt you. Digimon come from another world, a Digital World. They come here and form bonds with humans, because somehow that helps them grow." He decided to leave out the part about Digimon attacking and killing each other. He was trying to calm her down, not scare her. "Kuro and Shiro here are my partners. Don't worry, they're friendly."

Quickly wiping the tears away on the sleeve of her dinosaur outfit, she bent down onto her knees to get a better view of the two creatures, she now knew to be called 'Digimon' – also so she could rest her legs which were shaking like jelly by now.
The one known as Shiro was semi-introducing themselves to her, but it was doing it in a way that made it seem obvious which was which. Kai, was trying to get her to calm down which was easier said than done, even with his explanation that they are safe and 'they' came here to make bonds with us. Trying to keep herself from crying but she bit her lip and asked, “I dun understand, one fing, why pick me?”
She looked to the three of them for answers and then down to the egg, she clutched so tightly in her arms.
