Between Shibuya and now Terminus, Chiyoko was starting to realize that she really hated cities. Sure, the buildings were really impressive, but nothing compared to the beautiful sight of the sun slowly rising over the hills of a countryside. The clutter wasn't very helpful either. It felt like Chiyoko couldn't walk three feet without bumping into a giant mob of people, and the ambient chatter was so loud she could barely hear herself think. It didn't help that these crowds were a bunch of intimidating-looking monsters, either. Between the crowds and the very similar looking architecture, it was very hard for her to find where she was going at any given moment.
Thankfully, Big Blue could pick up the slack. The KoKabuterimon had much more experience in Terminus, and as Chiyoko's new partner was doing a wonderful job of helping her navigate. The duo were currently making their way towards the Terminus Mall, hoping to get a few supplies on hand for the journey. After all, a backpack full of chocolate couldn't be the only thing sustaining her on such a long journey. "Are we almost there?" Chiyoko asked, a little bit worried. "It's starting to get kind of dark here."
"Soon," was the bug's only reply. "See people?"
"Good idea. I guess if I follow the crowds, I'll find the mall" she replied, sighing sightly. Even in this world of monsters and adventure, was there really no escape from the winter-time shopping rush? "Do you usually go around here?"
"Nah. Keep it simple."
It was a longer walk than Chiyoko expected, and the longer it took the more of an outcast she began to feel like. The city just had a slight air of hostility around it she couldn't shake. Maybe it was because she stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the populace. Maybe if she bumped into another human, or some other sort of familiar face, she'd at least have an anchor to hold onto while trying to learn more about this world. Instead she was an outcast, far from home and forced entirely to fend for herself. Hopefully after this she'd be able to find some nice digital countryside to just relax on, and put this shady labyrinth of a city behind her.

Oh, it was around here, somewhere!" Shiro, a white cat-like Digimon that was Kai's partner looked around. Kai wasn't entirely confident in the white Digimon. It had been a while, after all, and Shiro wasn't exactly known for paying attention. What were they looking for? Well, a while back, Shiro had stumbled upon a job board. While the job Shiro had picked out was not exactly appropriate, Kai had high hopes. After all, Shiro probably picked the first one that involved fighting. Surely the board had more appropriate work. He needed the money.
"This is going nowhere, Kai. Let's call it a day." The speaker was the black Digimon, Kuro, who lay upon his shoulders. Shiro's sister was not nearly as fond of the Digital World as he was. It may have something to do with the trouble which seemed to arise every time they came there. Boogiemon, Sepikmon, Allomon. Maybe if Kuro and Shiro could reach Champion it would be better, but they couldn't. That meant that the digital world wasn't exactly safe. But again, he needed the money. Besides, he wanted answers about the Digimon, answers he'd never find in the Human World.
Shiro suddenly started off, snapping Kai out of his thoughts. "Human! There's a human, Kai!" "Wha... Wait! Shiro! Get back here!" Kai started off after the white Digimon. Leave it to Shiro to find trouble. He rounded the corner to find his partner excitedly jumping in circles around another human. Surely that wasn't so exciting anymore? Shiro had met plenty of humans, right? "Ah... Err... Sorry about him."

Chiyoko was far too absorbed in trying to sift through the crowds to see the Digimon coming. Between having to keep as small of a profile as possible to avoid bumping into anyone and having to keep her eyes focused on the storefronts, how could she even notice it? It took a gentle tap on the shoulder from Big Blue to finally break the girl's focus; as she turned, she noticed her KoKabuterimon partner pointing towards a strange, white cat. By the time Chiyoko finally noticed it the Digimon had already reached her and begun jumping around her in circles, leaving the girl somewhat dazed as she tried to look at it.
"H-hello there!" she said, voice somewhat quiet and hesitant. Generally first impressions came in two flavors for Chiyoko; shy and awkward, or worriedly intimidating. Thankfully, tiny cats fell into the latter category with ease. Chiyoko would've felt awkward as heck if she panicked when faced with something so small and cute. Still, she kept her profile small and tried not to move so much. Sudden actions might startle the little Digimon, after all.
Big Blue simply watched. For a brief second she looked the Digimon up and down to try and assess its strength. Size didn't matter too much in the Digital World, and she knew if the cat wanted to be dangerous it very well could be. However, initial watchfulness aside, they seemed like they were nothing but friendly. There would be no need for protecting her general today. She chuckled warmly as she looked down at the cat, pointing to Chiyoko and then herself. "Chiyoko. Big Blue. You?"
Then another human rounded the corner. The relief in Chiyoko's eyes was practically tangible as she snapped into attention, checking to make sure he wasn't actually one of those angel-like Digimon messing with her. Upon seeing a distinct lack of wings, she was convinced. Now she wasn't the only human to be stranded here! Maybe he could help her finally get home.
She still had a duty to her new partner, though, didn't she? This was going to be more of a mess to sort out than she thought.
In all of her worries, and all of her excitement, she tried to think of something to say. Instead, the first thing to come to mind, and then come out of her mouth, was a question. "Are they with you?"
Smooth.

"Hiya!" The white Digimon slid to a halt in front of the two, tilting his head curiously. "Shiro is Shiro!" The White Digimon replied, as if that was obvious and the bug-like Digimon was slow for not knowing already. After all, what Digimon had not heard of the magnificent Shiro!?
"Kai! Kuro! Meet Big Blue and Chiyoko!" Shiro called as his partner and sister rounded the corner. Kai assumed that Big Blue was not the name of the human, so she must be Chiyoko. "Ah? Err... Yes, these are my partners. Shiro is the loud one, Kuro's his sister. I'm Kai. Nice to meet you. Err... I presume that Big Blue is your partner?" He was pretty sure that it was, but he knew better than to assume anything when it came to Digimon.

"I think so," Chiyoko answered, very thankful that the white cat had interrupted and gotten introductions out of the way. Those were always the hardest part. "I'm still trying to get used to this place, really. I only got here a few hours ago."
"Just one," Big Blue added, pointing to the Xros Loader in Chiyoko's hand. "More soon? Maybe."
That statement worried the girl a little. Chiyoko didn't know much about the whole partnership thing, except for the fact that she and her Digimon friend had obligations to protect and help each other. How many was she going to have to make such a deal with? Would she even be able to get home at this rate, or would she have to go looking for other Digimon to meet first? It was becoming clear to Chiyoko that her partner knew more about what was going on than she did. The two of them were going to need a little talk later to sort everything out, weren't they?
No time to worry about that right now, though. For once there was another human here, too. This was finally her chance to learn more from a perspective like hers, and maybe even find out a bit more about this whole tamer-general-whatever thing. "Well, it's very nice to meet you too, Kai. How long have you been here for?"

More? Kai wasn't familiar with people obtaining extra partners after their first... Well, other than Scout, who was a Spirit user, not a tamer, and therefore a special case. And her Digivice was weird. "I admit, I've never seen a Digivice like that, before. Is it a special one, like the D-Scanner?" He assumed she knew what a D-scanner, the Digivice used by Spirit users like Scout, was. After all, she was in the Digital World, after all. Even if it was her first time. "Yeah, it's a good idea to have a guide on your first trip to the Digital World. I could show you around, if you like?"
Yeah, yeah. Kai wasn't exactly the individual to show anyone around here. He'd learned a lot from last time, though! He at least had some important places to show the newcomer, like the mall! And... No, no, mostly just the mall. If only he could find the job board Shiro had found that one time, that would be a good place to know. Also, if this girl had taken the river portal, there was a chance she didn't know where the Trailmon station was. This was good, he could work with this. If she wanted his help, of course. Still, he knew better than anyone that if there was trouble, he did not have the power to protect her. He wished that Scout were here.
"Oh, I've been here... I'd say an hour. Not long, certainly, since I came in on the Trailmon." It felt awkward saying it like that, since it made it seem like he had been here for even less time than she had. Should he clarify? Or would that just be excessive? Well, if she seemed to have gotten the wrong idea, he'd correct her. "Hey! Hey! Let's go get some food!" Shiro cried, eternally hungry. Kai shrugged at the other human. "Up to you. Are you hungry?"

"D-Scanner?"
It was clear Chiyoko had absolutely no idea what Kai was talking about. She looked hers over, as if trying to see whether she missed a program or not, but it didn't seem like it. The girl simply concluded that, like almost everything else in this world, it was a mystery she wasn't entirely privy to yet. Maybe she'd end up finding later on, but for now she figured it wasn't worth questioning. "Big Blue told me this was a Loader. I just figured that's what these things were called. How is it different from your-" She paused, trying to remember the word. "Digivice?"
Of course, then the boy offered to show her around. Chiyoko's eyes lit up hopefully at the news, smiling widely. "Wait, really? You'd do that for me?" she asked, still a little caught off guard by how quickly he offered. "That means a lot to hear. Thank you so much for the offer." Sure, he said he was only here for an hour, but he seemed like he knew what he was doing. It beat wandering around with a quiet beetle and a huge, intimidating city, that's for sure.
Of course, then they heard Shiro's request for food. Chiyoko may have loaded up on chocolate before coming here, but all of this wandering was starting to get her hungry. Besides, it would be rude to just ignore a hungry cat. She looked to Big Blue for approval, the beetle giving her a nod in return.
"That sounds great to me. Do you have any favorite places around here?"

She had no idea what a D-Scanner was. Was she newer to this than Kai had expected? Or had she just not run into any spirit users yet? They weren't nearly as common as Tamers, from what he'd seen. It wasn't entirely possible. "I've... I have to admit, I've never seen anything like it before. Mine... Heck, I don't even know what mine does. It transfers my energy from myself to these two so they can Digivolve." He took his Digivice out to show her. It was very different from the one the girl held.
"Sorry, I honestly don't know what yours does." he decided to leave D-scanners aside, for now. If she didn't know how her... 'Loader' worked, then she was definitely newer than he thought. And on her first trip to the Digital World, at that... He really wished someone like Scout, who actually could Digivolve to a combat form was here. The Digital World simply wasn't safe for people like her. Though, he was one to talk, with Kuro and Shiro still being at the Rookie level. Was he a bad tamer, taking so long to Digivolve them? He just didn't know enough about Digimon life cycles. He should ask Yui and Steve to compare notes about it, next time he saw them.
Well, it seemed food was the word of the day. Trust Shiro to steer the group that direction, every single time. Well, at least he did have a place that he knew. "Well, Digimon aren't exactly friendly to humans, a lot of the time. There's a Kamemon with an udon shack that doesn't mind us, though, if you'd be interested in that?"

So he didn't know what her Loader was either. Damnit, that made two of them. At least he had some sort of idea how these things worked, though, so his counsel was better than having nothing. She smiled politely anyway, but there was a bit of disappointment behind her eyes. "It's okay," she said, attempting to reassure Kai. "Big Blue and I can figure it out later. 'Sides, while we think things over we might as well get food, right?"
The mention of Digimon not often being the most friendly to humans was ringing pretty true to Chiyoko's experiences so far. Generally it was just through suspect glares and the occasional overheard whisper, but the girl couldn't deny that she hadn't exactly gotten the welcome wagon rolled out for her. At first she just thought it was part of the whole city thing, because Shibuya wasn't much friendlier. Was it really more of a cross-species concern? If it was, it wasn't exactly an unwarranted one. Chiyoko was just as confused about the Digital World as the Digimon likely were about another human popping up. These circumstances weren't really the most enjoyable for either side of this situation.
"What's it like here?" Chiyoko asked as they walked. "Have you been out of the city yet?"

Kai hated not being able to help. He hated admitting that he didn't know. Hated being completely and utterly useless. Every time he thought he had a handle on Digimon, something new popped up to add to his confusion. What was a Loader, and what did it do? This would bug him until he found out. Unfortunately, it seemed like that could be a while. "Right." was all he responded with.
"A little bit. I've been out as far as the oceon, once. Other than that, I'm not entirely sure exactly where I was. There was a portal in the Shibuya River that a friend uses, and he had me go through it. According to him, it just takes him where he needs to go. Another thing about the Digital World that simply makes no sense." He thought about his trips outside the city for a moment. "It's... Well, it's different. Dangerous, on occasion. As I've said, Digimon aren't exactly fond of humans. And when you're a Rookie level... You're easy prey for stronger Digimon looking to take your data. I think that if you manage to avoid provoking them, a fight is avoidable, if they're the former. If it's the latter, you'd better be ready to fight."
While he was talking to Chiyoko, the five reached Kamemon's stall. Kai pushed the curtain to the side for Chiyoko. "Hey Kamemon. It's me again. Two plain Udon..." "And one with everything!" Shiro interrupted cheerfully.

Easy prey? That was a worrying thought. She looked at Big Blue, as if hoping for a different answer, but Big Blue simply nodded in response. The thought lay unspoken between the two; they were going to have to get stronger, and they were going to have to do so quickly. The girl started to look nervous, but she shook her head slightly to try and shake the thought. It was far too late for nerves, and the last thing she wanted was to look overly nervous in front of her new guide.
"How do you get them away?" she asked, holding onto her composure closely. "Are there other ways around it? Or do you have to, well, fight often?" For her sake, she hoped it was the former. If she had any strong suits, confrontation sure as heck wasn't one of them. Unfortunately for her, in this new world conflict seemed like the law of the land. She hoped it was safer than Kai said it was.
Soon they reached the Kamemon's stall. Chiyoko smiled politely as the curtain was pulled back, still somewhat nervous. "I would like one plain as well, please. How about you, Big Blue?"
"Three, please."
Chiyoko paled slightly, but the KoKabuterimon gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll pay."
Food was going to be an issue, wasn't it? And probably travel, too. There were so many things to worry about, even on top of the whole safety and conflict thing. It was starting to make Chiyoko worry just how involved this little journey of hers would be.

"Well, I've been lucky enough so far to have strong companions to protect me..." "Yeah, strong like me!" Shiro interrupted. Kai chuckled. Shiro was overabundantly self-confident, even though if it weren't for stronger companions such as Scout he likely would be dead... Kai really didn't like to think about that. Shiro and Kuro were such a huge part of his life now, he couldn't imagine either of them dying!
"But yeah, if you're alone, you have to either fight or run, if you think you can get away. Honestly, I shouldn't even be here, since my partners can't Digivolve yet. I'd be in major trouble if I got attacked. Fortunately, Terminus City is safe if you manage to avoid the outskirts." It was that safety that made him comfortable coming here without an escort. Besides, he was really hoping to find a job.
Hearing Big Blue's order, Shiro became immensely jealous. "Kai! Why can't I have three bowls!?" The human just shook his head. "I don't see you offering to pay for them." He turned back to Chiyoko. "By the way, if you're really concerned about being attacked, you can always return to the Human World. Digimon attacks do happen there, but they are much fewer and farther between."

All of this was painting somewhat of a worrying picture, where Chiyoko would have to find someone to escort her fast or risk getting torn to bits. She hadn't imagined a single missed train stop would get her into this much hot water. Maybe it would be best to try and forget this all as soon as she could find a proper diversion. Like food. The food really couldn't get here fast enough, because at least it would move this conversation to a less worrying place.
Then Kai brought up going back to the human world. Truth be told, that was a topic on Chiyoko's mind very prominently for the past hour. Even after bumping into Kai, her feelings of being out of place were still persisting. She wanted to help Big Blue, but at the same time she wanted to go home, and more than anything she just wanted time to think. Maybe finding some way to get back would be the best thing for her after all.
"I've been wondering if I should for a while now," Chiyoko admitted. "But I can't just leave my partner behind. I guess we're both kind of looking for how to fit in around here. I can't just turn my back on all of that, can I?"
Big Blue quietly observed the conversation, lost in thoughts of her own. They were two wanderers, two outsiders in a world they'd have to start calling their own. The main problem was how to finally go about such a plan.
Maybe when the food got here, it'd help her brainstorm. Besides, eating was always nice.

Kai suddenly realized that there had been a major disconnect. "It's not like you'd have to leave Big Blue behind to return to the human world. You'd just have to keep her hidden from people who aren't involved with Digimon." And even that wasn't too big of a deal- Sure, it could cause widespread panic and a conflict with D.A.T.S., but the organization would take care of it and there'd be no problems. "Certainly, a lot better than having to stay safe from all of the powerful Digimon that will attack you if you stay here."
Okay, so the Digimon wouldn't attack if you didn't aggravate them first... Usually. But... A little fear mongering would definitely help prove the point he was trying to make. The digital world wasn't safe, even for him. Staying here was just a plain bad idea. "Besides, won't your parents be worried if you don't go home?" Kai left off at that, as their udon arrived, and he and his partners began to eat. He hoped that this girl would see reason.
