Emiko was on the way from getting groceries for that night's dinner. It wasn't anything as fancy as the day before, just some ingredients for a Yakisoba. She looks around the park at the greenery, and just smiles. She is pleased by simple beauty in life. As relaxing as this is, she can't help but wonder about what she read in Tomomi's journal. Digimon...just what are they? Was that being standing next to Takahiro one? She's off in a daze while she's walking, and walks into non other than Scout. "Oh my! I'm so sorry! I was off in another world." Emiko apologizes. If she only knew how right she would be. "...Scout? Oh what a nice surprise! I was just thinking about you and your brother actually. How are you?"

“Mm? Oh,” He'd been looking down at his phone, but puts it away and offers up a very charming smile as he sees who it is. Not that it matters, he'd've given the same smile for anyone. “Ah! Hello,” Scout gives a small, but respectful bow, “I'm okay, thank you. Just wanted some fresh air. And yourself?” Emiko seems pleasant enough, and he is trying to get to know her brother-in-law. If she's allowed to read his journal (his what?), she must know him quite well. Maybe he can get some insight here!

Emiko smiles brightly, "Just another day in paradise. It's always nice to walk outside this time of year on a sunny day." Emiko knows these two could talk pleasantries for hours, but she has an agenda. This were her opportunity to uncover the mystery of digimon! "Scout, I'd really like to talk about something with you, if you have a moment." She looks over to the park, "Would you like to walk a park path with me?" She knows whatever this is about, it has to be discreet. Otherwise, Tomomi would have told her already.

“Mm. I like walking around at any time of year. I'm more of an outdoors person than my little brother,” Scout continues to smile, although quirks a brow as she asks him...things. “Sure! Anything I can help with!” He'll follow her along quite happily, waiting until they're away from the majority of people, before asking, “So, what can I do for you?”

Emiko starts with a polite smile, "Scout, I think you're good at reading people. Tomomi usually confides in me with everything, but since he's come here from Kyoto, he hasn't told me much of anything. He didn't have a lot of friends in Kyoto, so maybe now he confides in you and Takahiro." She looks down and laughs, "I don't want to sound nosy, I just want to make sure he's okay. That he's safe. His parents always worried me, and if it were up to me, I would convince Ichirou to make us his guardians. That boy is so special, and to have him live the rest of his days unhappy in Kyoto just doesn't seem right, wouldn't you agree?" She says, smiling. Emiko was instantly charmed by Scout's personality, and really enjoyed hearing his insight on the world at large. She truly cared for Tomomi like he was her own little brother, and will stop at nothing to ensure his safety.

Scout thinks for a second or two (much longer than usual!) about how to respond, “I don't think anyone should have to spend time being unhappy just to fulfil someone else's wishes for them, no. I think Tomi will be much happier in Shibuya,” It's true. It's a wonderful city! He's never wanted to go anywhere else, and he doesn't know many people that have. “I think he's still upset about some things, but I'm sure he'll be alright. Taka and I will be there if he needs anything. And as his family, that extends to you, of course,” Smiiiiile.
Ugh. Awful child.

Either Scout was being cryptic, or he didn't know about Tomomi's secret. Either way, it's not really her place to dig any farther. So she nods and smiles, "I'm glad he found you and your brother, Scout. Truly I am." Emiko hesitates a little, "Normally...I would leave now. But..." Emiko stops walking at this point. She is completely lost on how to talk about this. How do you start a conversation about this? Tomomi thinks you are a superhero on another plane of existence and I want to join? No, definitely not.
She rummages through her bag and pulls out her D-scanner. She looks at Scout and holds it out to him, "I think this is called a digivice. I think you Takahiro and Tomomi have ones as well. But I also have reason ours are different...because they have digimon and we don't. So...my question to you, Scout Evans..." there was a sharp tension in the air, "what is a digimon?" The tone went from serious to thinking this was some kind of game. Still, as lighthearted as Emiko was...she'd really like some answers.

“...Ah. Right,” Scout pauses, and scratches his chin for a moment, “It's a sapient lifeform from a dimension that runs parallel to ours,” What? That's how Takahiro explains it! Yeah, maybe neither of them are very good at this. He pulls out his own D-Scanner. “These are D-Scanner variants, uh. Since we don't have Digimon, we can use them to activate totems that can be stored within them, and directly transform into Digimon bodies ourselves, like uh. Oh! Like tokusatsu heroes, you know? Like Kamen Rider?” Well, that's...a bad start. Sure. Maybe she will think it's a game. That'd save time...

Emiko looks at Scout with a perplexed face, "...Truly?" That is pretty amazing. "Have you been there, Scout? That sounds..beautiful!" Emiko was very pleased with this news. She continues to stare at Scout as he details their D-scanner. She nods occasionally. After he's finished, Emiko points to herself and then the D-Scanner. "You mean...we become the digimon?" This is the hardest part to grasp. How does one become another life-form? She looks through her D-Scanner by pressing a few of the buttons, and happens to see an icon pop up on her screen. The icon resembles that of a butterfly. She passes it over to Scout, "Is that one of the totems you were talking about?"

“Truly,” Scout nods, not one to lie if he can help it. “I've been there a lot of times, yeah. It's...dangerous. It's beautiful, and it can be so much fun, but the main thing you have to keep in mind is that you can die there as easily as here,”
He takes the D-Scanner and looks down at the thing on the screen. Hm. “Yeah. I think it's your Sprite. Kinda like a...uh. Sub-Spirit. It's less powerful, and generally a little cumbersome. But...that'd be it, yeah. You should be able to activate it with a verbal phrase or a button-push, but...don't do it in public. Please. You could get a lot of people into trouble,”

Emiko looks troubled, "Is that so..." She scans Scout's face for answers as to why. "Has Tomomi been there?" She wants to know if her husband's little brother was really in danger.
Emiko then looks down at her D-Scanner. She smiles seeing the image on there, "So, I can become a butterfly?" She looks to the sky, "That's so great!" Emiko looks sheepishly at Scout, "Scout, I need to ask you two favors."

“Mm. I dunno. Something with wings, I bet, though. Your element might be Air or Wind or something. That...actually sounds kinda nice. I ended up with 'Fire'.” Scout hands the D-Scanner back, slightly uneasy. Still. Emiko seemed nice enough. Or did all Spirit Users have a SkullGreymon somewhere down the line?
“I don't know if he's been there. I don't think so, but he probably will, soon. Don't worry though, Takahiro and I will look after him!” Ah, his smile's back, good! “Is one of the two favours that you want us to look after Tomi if he goes into the Digital World? Because that's done and done,” Especially with his D-Scanner back. Pfft. Let's see anyone try to bully Tomi with Agunimon around!
...Oh, and Petermon, he supposes.

What a smart kid, Emiko thinks as she listens to Scout makes his promises. He truly knows he to remove worry from someone. It seems as if he really cares about Tomi-chan. Well, regardless how she feels about Scout's promise, the simple truth is that Scout is only a year older than Tomomi, with Takahiro being a year younger. They're kids. As an adult, she has to be responsible for these boys safety. So, with very little hesitation, she sucks up her pride.
"You read people very well, Scout. You'll make a fine husband to someone one day." Emiko teases, patting him on the head gently. "My second request is to help me learn how to use this power." She looks down at the D-Scanner, "It is no coincidence that I was given this power..." she holds the D-Scanner closer, "..to use it for good." Emiko then looks up at Scout. "This request also comes with a condition." Emiko then grabs Scout's shoulder, looking incredibly serious, "You must not tell Tomomi that I have a D-Scanner."

“Mm. I'm...happy to help you learn the ropes as it were, but...I'm...not very comfortable lying to someone, especially a friend,” He looks conflicted, “I kinda need to ask why you don't want me to tell him, if you don't mind,”
Oh, Scout is happy to help, and if there's a good reason, he'll keep it a secret, at least for now, but...somehow keeping the truth from a friend feels wrong. It always has. He'd been planning to go back into the Digital World over the next few days...slowly try to get used to it all again, but, maybe this'll cause him to change his plans? ...Although Emiko probably doesn't want to take groceries into the Digital World.

Emiko looks at Scout, really impressed at how genuine the boy is. "Well, it's more of an omission than a lie, Scout." Adults, teaching children the proper way to live. Right? She smiles, "I do appreciate your honest nature, Scout. And here's the truth. If Tomomi knew I was out and about in a dangerous place such as this Digital World...and if something were to happen to me...it would break him. If he didn't know, he would be much better off."
Emiko walks off a few feet, "I really do care for him as if he was my own son. Sometimes I feel like I have done more for that boy that his mother ever will." Emiko's eyes seem to look grey and sad, "If I can spare him any pain, or if I could protect him, without him losing sleep or worrying...I would feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to." Emiko turns back to Scout, "Is that an appropriate reason, Scout? Listen...if he figures it out, you won't have to lie, tell him. Just...please try not to bring it up if you can."
Emiko then smiles widely, "How long until we can travel to the Digital World?" she asks with excitement.
