Another day, another delicious contest! The staff were backstage, all hired hands of Lilly, the traveling restaurant owner. But Lilly herself, a rotund, pink Guilmon with short red hair, a brown dress, and an apron, was walking out to the stage, giving the applauding audience a large toothy smile. She was giddy with anticipation for what the contestants would make today. But she kept herself composed. She had a show to host!
"First of all, thank you for coming! I am deeply grateful for your attendance. My name is Lilly, host for my little competition Sweet Genius! Here we have a few hopeful chefs that will come up here and display their skills in the creation of fine, inventive desserts! But after two rounds, one will be deemed as Sweet Genius! All our contestants will be rewarded, though. This may be a competition, but more than anything I want you all to have fun and enjoy yourselves!"
Around her were several cooking stations. Everything one needed to make any dessert was here. Ample room, clean and solid blacks and silvers, all sorts of utensils... it was all a chef could ask for. The audience was obviously eager to see the competition start as well, cheering and clapping.
"Now, before we begin, I'd like the contestants to introduce themselves! Come on down you guys!"
She waved the contestants over with a clawed hand, microphone in the other hand to let the others speak into it.

Kami the Candlemon flew onto stage, dragging Tomomi with his waxy hand. They stumbled past a few of the contestants, as Tomomi apologized left and right with the hand on his neck, anxiety filled with pestering all the contestants before the event even began! When the two reach the microphone, Candlemon lightly pushes Tomomi in front of the microphone. He immediately bows to the audience, "Greetings. I am Tomomi Nakamura, from Kyoto. This is my companion, Kami the Candlemon. We have never professionally cooked a dessert, but we will make the digital world proud!"
Tomomi bowed one more time as Candlemon shot fire from his mouth behind Tomomi, appearing as if his bow caused fireworks behind him. When finished, Tomomi grabs Candlemon by the hand and walks towards the other side of Lilly. He nods at Candlemon thinking, WE LOOKED SOOO COOL! At least, they hope they did.

Feli fiddled with his hands nervously, at first he had been sure about applying for this contest but know that he saw how many people were up in the audience he was having second thoughts. It didn't help either that his friends and brother weren't here to cheer him on, he would have invited them but they still didn't know the existence of digimon and he wanted it to stay that way. He gulped and watched as thier hostess addressed the crowed then motioned for them to introduce themselves.
He was shaking and was about to move forward to introduce himself when a competitor and his digimon beat him to the punch. He sighed in relief happy that he wasn't going first, he half listened as tomomi introduced himself and kami his partner digimon. Suddenly felis digivice beeped and he took it out of habit, what he saw was slightly surprising on the screen was patamon. The little digimon smiled and gave feli the thumbs up before the screen faded to black, feli was confused at first but the smiled when he realized that his spirit was trying to encourage him. He said a thank you before putting his device away just in time to see that tomomi and his digimon had finished thier introduction and went to stand by the hostess.
Feli took a deep breath and exhaled before he walked towards the mic, he smiled and tilted his head in an adorable manner "Ciao! my names feliciano vargas! I have made a few desserts before but never during a contest!" He chirped happily with that he went to stand by lily, sure his intro wasn't as flashy as tomomi's and kami but who needed fire works when you were adorable as a kitten.

Nova watched as the others had taken their places before looking at Jimmy and Takara. Given the circumstances, it wouldn't be too hard to throw the competition. Wouldn't be hard to cheat without getting caught either with his link with Sparks. Naturally, Nova was too proud of his abilities in the kitchen to bother with rigging anything. He didn't need flashy effects either. Who needs them anyway? He walked on to the stage, a confident smirk plastered over his face.
"Hello everyone! I'm Nova Ozuka, and this is my first time entering any sort of cooking competition. I can't wait to get started!"
He then took his place with Tomomi and Feliciano. This was the most energetic Nova had been during his stay in the Digital World, and this competition would surely prove to be among the highlights.

What is a Treasure Hunter doing at a cooking competition!? Making things interesting, of course! Not that he had anything better to do. After all, apparently it was frowned upon to disassemble other peoples' secret bases. It wasn't his fault they built it in a prime treasure hunting location! The nerve of some people! Friend A and Friend B simply did not understand the finer points of treasure hunting.
Speaking of Friend A... There he was now, giving his introduction! Right after New Rivals A and B! Hah! These side characters had no clue what they were up against! Takara Kureha had honed his cooking skills in the harshest of kitchens, and his Street Style cuisine would bring the judges to their knees! Of course... That may be because they were retching over a toilet bowl. With Takara Kureha, you never know!
Ah, it was his turn! Time to make his first proper impression on the unfortunate audience. Why were they unfortunate? For not being Takara Kureha, Treasure Hunter Extraordinaire, that's why! He somersaulted to the stage, all thoughts in his mind on how to introduce himself. Something corny, like "I am Takara Kureha, Treasure Hunter. The next treasure I seek... Is your hearts!?" Nah, too much. KISS. Keep it simple, silly. Finishing the roll, he whipped his hair to the side as he stood. Stylish! "I'm Takara Kureha."
He moonwalked back to Rivals A and B, and Friend A, waving to the crowd. Perfect.

((Sorry for the wait. I completely forgotten about this.))
Well that's one way to make an entrance. Jimmy thought as he watched Takara moonwalk back over to the others. Looking at Nova and the other two competitors. This was certainly going to be interesting experience.
He was honestly a bit surprised when the idea for them to join this competition was brought up. He never actually told the others about his previous experiences with this competition. Much less the fact that he actually won at least once. Maybe twice. Why couldn't he remember exactly? Oh well.
Jimmy walked up the stage in a calm and steady pace. "Hello everyone. I'm Jimmy Coulton. And I hope to please you all with the deserts I will be making today." He told the crowd before giving them a small bow. He then turned around and walked over to where the others were.
Yeap. This was going to be interesting.

Another interesting bunch of characters. Of course, she recognized Jimmy, but she wasn't going to outright state this fact. Would kinda ruin the fun, and having a few recurring contestants would probably aid in potential fandom.
"Alright, now that everyone has introduced themselves, everyone should take this chance to get acquainted with where everything is. Don't want to forget where the wax paper is, you know."
She paused for a moment to allow the contestants time to look around before they would return to their spots.
"You have at your fingertips practically everything you'd need to make a dessert. Now, here's a reminder for everyone as to how this works. You five will be given a set time limit to make your dessert based on a theme of my choice. During the round, I will introduce required ingredients to... 'spice things up'. When the time ends, everyone must bring their desserts up to me. I will then judge the contestants and decide who goes to the next round. Remember, be imaginative!"
Pausing for a moment, the Guilmon continued to speak.
"Oh, and as you should know, I don't choose the 'required ingredients', I have my friend Marin choose them. I won't know what they are until everyone else finds out. Until then, it's a mystery.
I think it helps liven things up... what will it be? Will it work? That sort of thing.
That sort of thing is also the theme of this round of Sweet Genius! Mystery! Make a dessert based on Mystery! What kind of Mystery? Well, that's for you to decide!
You all have 50 minutes to make your dessert. Staaaarrrrting....
...
...
...oh, it's a mystery when I'll START THE TIMER! Heh heh..."
(((The next post will be over the span of 20 minutes, after that I will have Lilly introduce the secret required ingredient for this round.
After that, the next post will be another 25 minutes, then Lilly will announce the 5 minute warning, leading to the final post of the round being the last 5 minutes.
There is no post order, you simply must post within the next 6 days. Happy Baking!)))

This was a display of food unlike any Takara had ever seen. Seriously, what the heck! He almost went into a food coma just looking at all of it! Keep in mind that this was a young man who had been living on scraps and garbage for the past several years. But of course, why should anything less be prepared for his debut as Takara Kureha, Master Chef? Treasure could wait... He had people's hearts and stomachs to win!
His greatest weakness in this competition failed to stall his excitement. What weakness was that? The woeful inadequacy of his cooking style in this situation. The young man's self made, "Street Style" was primarily based on, finding whatever was usable, wherever you could. In this arena, where nothing was in short supply... What would he make without his usual limited supply? What ingredients would he pluck from the shelves, when he had so many to choose from?
Knowing Takara Kureha... The answer was probably, "All of them."
It was time! The timer had started! And with a whole hour to go... Takara was ready for anything! But what ingredients should he grab first!? He paced down the aisles of food, putting on a thoughtful face. A face that was the exact opposite of his real mood. Since when did this particular human ever actually think? Just ask his partner, the poor Hagurumon. Takara Kureha was a man of action! Not so much one of thought.
From the rows of food, Takara plucked one single piece. A long, skinny, yellow one. This curved piece... It was so familiar looking... But he couldn't say why. He gave it a squeeze. More firm than anything he'd eaten in... A long time. More yellow too. Weird. Hmm... But if it was brown... And less firm... Oh! He knew! It was a banana! He could use this! But that wasn't enough... He needed more! He stuffed the banana in his pocket and kept walking.
Yes... No, no... Yes, yes... No... The method by which Takara Kureha was selecting ingredients was... Entirely unclear, to anyone who expected any semblance of logic. Which would make sense... Because the only logic he was following, was that of his gut. That thing was too green. It must be a vegetable. Not a dessert. This thing was too powdery. Too small. Too big. Too hard. On the other hand... Anything that he didn't reject, he brought back to his little work station. The poor audience wouldn't have a clue what he was hitting them with.
And why would they? What could he possibly make with the strange assortment of fruit he had collected? Some manner of fruit salad? But then, what was the cream for? Perhaps an assorted vegetables smoothie? But he had way too much of an assortment for that! How could he ever add all of that... Orange, clementine, apple, pomegranate, banana, pear, mango, grapefruit, lemon... How could anyone use all of those to make something that was actually decent? The crowd didn't know! Takara didn't know either!
Time was passing. He should probably start cooking. Hmm, how to make this into, a mystery? Ehh, he'd figure that out when the 'special ingredient' was named! For now, time to start cooking! First step in Street Style: Discard the inedible portions! Takara considered his varied and colorful choices. No mold, no stench... Step one done! Next came step two: Mix it all together. Step 3: Heat, if possible. Step 4: Serve and eat! Street Style was so easy!
He grabbed the biggest bowl he had available. He needed at least that much to work with! Pulling back his sleeves, he tossed a few of his 'carefully' picked ingredients in, then plunged in. No tools, just crushing them into a pulp with his hands. He didn't even wash them first! Every once in a while, he would pull them out, covered in a sticky goo, and toss something else in. No special preparation necessary. Bananas, apples, oranges, all got the same treatment. Skin and all. Every once in a while, he'd throw in a dash of cream and some butter for no apparent reason. What on earth could he be making? It certainly fit the theme of, mystery!
Oh, but time was coming up for the announcement of the mystery ingredient! Let's take a look at what the other contestants are doing, shall we?

Felis nervousness came back but with a balance of boldness, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. First he went ingredient shopping and walked quickly, every once and awhile he would grab an ingredient. Once feli had gotten everything he was going to need he went back to his station and set out a bowl along with some utensils. Once he was sure that he had everything accounted for he washed his hands and began his long grueling work.
First he lined a 8 square inch baking dish with plastic wrap and then filled a larger bowl with ice cold water. He left that alone and then began to crack open eggs into another bowl and poured in sugar and began to mix it using a whisp. As he cooked he began to get slightly nerves wondering what secret ingredient they were going to have to use. Of course he had prepared for anything if he had to alter the recipe a little using the mystery ingredient but he still had a bit of worry.
Feli then poured in the milk and began to mix the contents in the bowl again and watch as the contents in the bowl began to become foamy and light.

Tomomi looked around at the group rushing to start, however he was quite confident in this round. He never cooked at home, but he always watched his mother if the occasion ever arose. Better yet, his sister-in-law always forced him into the kitchen, and taught him many dishes. "After all, food is the quickest way to a man's heart!" She would tease.
Tomomi listened to Lilly carefully, and overheard "spice things up." Of course, his literal mind picked that up as they might have to use spicy ingredients. His mind went through all of the possibilities of a good spicy dessert dish. When Lilly announced that she was going to leave the timer start a mystery, Tomomi had the idea.
Dango. Dango is the perfect mystery dessert! Sure, you know that it's Tofu and Sweet Rice, but the sauce can be virtually anything! Better yet, a spicy Anko (red bean) sauce would be fantastic!! Tomomi rushes for the ingredients. First off, Mochiko and Tofu were incredibly important, as they were the dish! Tomomi also grabs Bamboo sticks. To kick it up a little, Tomomi also grabs some sugar. Here comes the hard part.
Trying to remember the Anko recipe, Tomomi runs down the aisles, grabbing what comes to mind. He grabs Azuki Beans, soy sauce, Mirin (sugary rice wine,) and corn starch. That's pretty much everything, he thinks. He rushes back to his station to begin the work.
Tomomi frantically brings two pots of water to boil, and starts his Anko sauce by mixing in water, corn starch, mirin and soy sauce. After mixing the ingredients, he covers it to boil. Perfect! Now he can work on the beans and dango. Tomomi quickly grabs the mochiko and tofu, mixing the two vigorously. After they have blended he mixes in sugar, and places the concoction in one of the now boiling pots.
The Azuki beans were always the trick to get right. This took patience and time, two things Tomomi didn't have a lot of at the moment. He gets them to boil, and leaves them for five minutes. He quickly drains them after the five minutes to put them in cold water to boil again. This time, the water wouldn't be above them in the water. The dango started to float, which means they have only three more minutes before they are prepared. Tomomi quickly pours sugar and salt onto the azuki beans, then brings the anko sauce to a simmer.
Those first twenty minutes are speeding by, but thankfully anko dango is a simple yet delicious snack that can easily made. All it requires is a little time management!

Nova was stumped. This round fell into the "I just don't know" category. He bolted over to the ingredients, and just started grabbing things, but acted like he knew what he was doing even though he wasn't sure yet. Perhaps the theme would be introduced later on like the ingredient, or it was to give it a mystery of some sort. Either way, he needed to figure out what to make. A stuffed cake? No, not quite enough time, or so he thought. Filled Doughnuts? No, he would need yeast, which he didn't have time for. He went with Plan C: Improvisation, aka pulling a Sparkmon. Once he had his ingredients, he made a bee line to his cooking station. Examining the ingredients he had, he noticed that he had the ingredients for doughnuts, except for the milk, and then some, just not for the filled recipe. He probably had enough time to make a double or even triple batch. In a large bowl, he began stirring 6 table spoons of vinegar into 1& 3/8 of a cup of yogurt, which hopefully Lilly and/or the crowd would think he used as both a tastier and healthier alternative to milk. Uh... should Takara be doing that? Sparks asked. Should Takara be doing what? Nova shot back as he looked in the direction of the new Xros General. What am I going to do with him? Nova sighed mentally as he returned his attention to the ingredients he was stirring. "Well at least he'll have the mystery theme down," he muttered. Once he had finished stirring, he grabbed a large bowl, a whisk, and a mixer. Then while he let the vinegar and yogurt mixture set, he whisked together 1 & 1/2 cups of sugar and 6 tablespoons of shortening until the mixture was smooth. Next, he cracked open three eggs, emptying their contents into the bowl before adding a teaspoon and a half of the vanilla extract and fired up the mixer, beating the eggs and vanilla together with the rest of the mixture in the large bowl. Once the second mixture was well blended, he grabbed another bowl and a spoon and proceeded to mix together 6 cups of flour, 3/4 a teaspoon of salt, and a teaspoon and a half of baking soda. Once the dry mixture was finished, he began stirring it into the second mixture alternating it with the yogurt and vinegar mixture, checking to make sure the latter mixture was thick first. Once the mixtures were fully mixed in, he floured the counter and grabbed a rolling pin. He then rolled out a third of the dough he made on top of the flour to 1/3 inch thickness and split the the other two thirds in half between 2 medium bowls. He never used this recipe before and was making a triple batch, and since the original recipe supposedly took 16 minutes to complete, he guessed that it took about 12 minutes to mix together, and it needed to stand for another 30 total while taking 6 to cook afterward. He could be wrong though. Nova looked over the assorted extras, spotting an interesting ingredient: passion fruit. "Hmm..."He sliced it open, removing the seeds and emptying the juicy pulp into one of the bowls and began mixing it together with the dough. Now all he needed was the secret ingredient. ((Just tell me if you don't think Nova could feasibly mix the ingredients in 12 minutes, and I'll edit later when I get home.))

Jimmy took the time examine where everything was. It seemed that all ingredients he'd every need were right there. Even some of the more exotic ones unique to the digital world. That was nice to know. He then began brainstorming desert ideas as Lily explained the basics to everyone before revealing todays theme.
"Mystery huh?" Jimmy wondered aloud as he tried to figure out what he would create. Time was ticking however. He couldn't spend long thinking about this.
Then inspiration struck him. Why didn't he think of it earlier? Sure it was kindof simple, but if he could somehow manage to pull this off, then he would have a good making it through this round. It would be a lot of hard work though. He would have to work to the very last second, and even then he might not get it finished in time. Yet he had to try.
With the clock ticking, he quickly began to grab all the ingredients he needed and went to work. The first job would be to get the most of the preparation work done. He quickly began by preheating the oven to the temperature he needed it to be. He then grabbed a mixing bowl, some butter, and some sugar and began beating it. Once he was satisfied that it was blended enough, he added the other ingrediants needed, and continued to work until everything appeared to be well mixed. He then poured the mix into pans he had greased and floured while he was grabbing the ingredients, placing them in the oven. The process itself ultimately took him just over ten minutes. Yet he still had a lot of work to do.
Next he grabbed a selection of fruit. He figured he was only going to be able to make use of four to six different types, so he made his selection carefully. He needed a good variety of flavors that were also able to mesh well together. So he choose to grab some strawberries, some bananas, some digifruit he had grown found of, and some oranges. Then he carefully began prepping each fruit so that they could be juiced properly. All the while being careful to keep each of the fruits seperate from one another. He wanted a variety of different flavors. Not one flavor with all the fruit in it. After all the fruit was properly preped, he placed them all in separate blenders, and began to juice them.
He took the resulting juices into seperate saucepans which he put under low heat. He then mixed the juices with the necessary ingrediants to properly make them fillings. His eye looking over at the clock as it continued to count downward, hoping they would all be done soon enough for him to work on the next part he needed to do. All the while wonderingnwhat the mystery ingredient is going to be and how he was going to incorporated it.

Suddenly, at the 20 minute mark, there was a buzzer. Lilly had took up center stage to make an announcement.
"Alright, everyone put your utensils down and come over here... it's time for the secret, required ingredient!"
Once everyone else took center stage, a BlackGatomon from the back pushed a tray out, with the contents covered in a silver dome lid. Once with the others, the cat digimon bowed, and placed a gloved paw over the lid.
"Alright, everyone... the required ingredient is...." She lifted up the lid, revealing... waffles.
"Frozen waffles! Ready to eat in 3 minutes! And they make great discuses! Like those TRAN guys with the neon lights or whatever that movie was called. Some of them have blueberries in them. Others have chocolate chips! Some are plain, and some have sprinkles!
I made them myself! Well, bai bai!"
The BlackGatomon left the stage, leaving the tray full of frozen waffles out. Lilly gave a chuckle... expecting the food to be at least... not frozen but, hey, she that's part of the magic of this show!
"Alright then! Now that we have this, it's time to get back to cooking! The timer starts up again right now!"

Well...this puts an interesting twist on danko.... Tomomi thought to himself as he stared down his new opponent...frozen food. What to do with this?!
Tomomi is brainstorming as Lilly restarts the timer, and then it hits him. The mystery will be on the inside! Danko is known for being full of just tofu and rice with an alternating outside sauce. But what if he could mix the waffles with the Anko and inject it into the danko? Inverse Danko!
"That's it!" Tomomi yells as he rushes to grab some of the frozen waffles. This works out perfectly! If he can get the waffles to defrost at the same time the Azuki beans were ready, the meal would be completed in less time than needed! He throws them in a pan with water and half a stick of butter, and lets them defrost/cook in the sweetness that is butter while he finishes his prep on the Azuki beans. Basically, these little guys needed three more minutes. While those finished out, Tomomi drains the water from the danko, it's done! Soft, delicate and ready to be injected with anko waffle goodness!
Now that everything was prepped, all that was left was to literally combine the ingredients. Tomomi drains the azuki again, chops up the waffles into basically a pile of waffle mush, and mixes the two with the anko sauce he was prepping. Using a spatula, he folds the ingredients into one another. It's blending so well! After about two or three minutes, Tomomi tastes his concoction. Sweet, slightly savory, and well mixed! Tomomi is a little in shock that it actually worked.
Here comes the hard part. With five minutes left, he has to inject the filling into the dango. If he messes up, he's doomed to failure!

Post by Takara Kureha on Feb 5, 2016 3:52:05 GMT
Oh what/ Waffles? He vaguely remembered those! Vaguely. Oh yeah, those. Hmm... What kind should he take? Plain was plain. Rejected! Blueberries? Chocolate chips? Sprinkles? Hmmm. Well, who can go wrong with chocolate! And sprinkles of course! What were sprinkles made of, anyways? Love and peace, of course! Takara grabbed a stack of them, his hands still covered in his masterpiece. He'd have happily grabbed more... But he was out of hands! Curses! Oh well!
Hmmm. Well, first things first. How was his masterpiece of Street Style cooking coming? He grabbed a waffle off the stack and plunged it into the gloopy mess. Hmm. The waffle was so cold and hard! No good. But other than the waffle it was good! It just needed some more mixing! The waffles were another story. He was going to have to thaw them, somehow. Hmm. He was going to have to bake it. But that would take time. Time he didn't have. He still needed to mix the brew some more! And there were still things to toss in! He tossed the half eaten waffle back into the mix. It was time to improvise.
One apple, core and all, went in the bowl. Takara used his hands to scrape what he could of the goo back into the bowl as well. It was time to get mechanical! But he didn't bother grabbing any of the numerous tools offered for this purpose. Oh no. He had a much better idea. "Digi chip, slot in! Hagurumon! I choose you!" A flash of light from his Xros Loader, and the gear like Digimon appeared. "Let's do this! Iku ze!" Why did he say it twice? Something about something... He forgot. He was sure it made it better.
Hagurumon had no idea what it was they were doing. He didn't exactly have a choice in the matter. As quickly as he had been summoned, he found himself dunked into what seemed to be a puddle of filth with an unknown toxicity. "Rev it up!"The human holding him cried gleefully. And it was easier to obey than to ask questions. Questions like "Why" or "What is this!" Questions like... I dunno, "Will this ever come out?" Of course, the answer is, "Who really cares!"
Ah, that was more like it. As the small gear on the Digimon's side turned, it dragged up chunks of, for lack of a better term, "Gloop" with it. These chunks were crushed against Hagurumon's side. Of course, being vertical... It was no match for the mixing power of a proper mixer. And the ethics were questionable. But is was funny! Well, it was to Takara. Why did everyone look so shocked? Every once in a while he tossed in a new ingredient. Hmm. What to do with these waffles? Not just toss them in. That would be boring for the 'special' ingredient! He needed to make it fancy. Hmmm.
Oh, and wasn't there a second criteria? Something.... Something.... Funny? No, no. Something mysterious! Hm. But this wasn't mysterious at all (At least, not to Takara, though it shared a great many properties with the classic, 'mystery meat.'). Hmmm. He'd have to think about this. And cook it. He yanked Hagurumon out of the rather smoother mixture, gloop flying everywhere from the still spinning cogs. Takara wiped a touch of sludge off his face with a finger and stuck it in his mouth. Perfect!
It is at this time that we remind you that Takara has been eating garbadge for the past several years. His sense of taste is not to be trusted.
Now he just needed to do something with the waffles. And heat it. Hmmm. Maybe cover them in his masterpiece like crackers? Eh, once thawed... They probably wouldn't be as stiff and good for dipping as it had been. And frozen was bad. And of course, Step 3: Heat. Hagurumon vanished in a sudden burst of light. His services were no longer required. It was time to think. Oh. And there were 5 minutes left. Oh dear. Maybe using a slow mixer like Hagurumon was not such a good idea. Naaaaaaah.
