1:40am SHIBUYA RIVER
There was no rain tonight, a refreshing outlook compared to the last three nights of downpour. It was warm out, a desirable feeling, the only chill being the breeze occasionally coming off the water and through one's clothing. Thin clothing, at that, for Hera once again did not bother stopping home or changing out of her school uniform. She felt there was no point, nobody was there half the time, there was never any food, and furthermore, there was simply nothing at all to do there. So the vibrant girl wandered the streets alone, often loitering in places such as the river for hours on end - doing nothing but checking her phone and babbling to herself.
"Do you think he likes me?" The girl hummed to herself, as if she were talking to some sort of invisible force, or imaginary friend.
"Haha, no, who would like somebody like you?" She snarled back to herself, her voice being far more condescending and mocking in this tone, "Besides, he likes me."
"I...you're...stop it!" The girl grasped her ears in an attempt to drown out a voice that was her own, but her expression was not of terror, but rather of hysteria, a smile on her face and tears in her eyes.
"Aww, can't take a little abuse? Pathetic! Disgusting! Nobody would like a loser like you!" She sung to herself, slowly collapsing on the ground after losing grip on reality. She...she had forgotten to take her medication today, something that had just become clear to her. Her frail hand reached out towards the water, touching the edge with a fingertip.
"Pull it together...pull it together." Hera whispered to herself as a mantra, before humming an out of tone tune - that of the nursery rhyme, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. It had no meaning to anything, but the ring was always calming to her since she was a child. Her hand pulled back from the water, digging her fingers into the soil and leaning on her elbow to start to get her bearings.
As if she just made a great physical effort, she finally sat up, swinging her legs around and adjusting her skirt before staring blankly out into the water once more. Silence. No more talking, not when alone, well, not right now - that wouldn't be productive. She blinked her long lashes a few times. Was thinking productive?
Something was wrong in the river, though something was usually wrong, especially without medication - but this thing was peculiar even so. A light, though not a natural one, one that seemed to have pixels and computerized elements. Was there some sort of device under the murk? It was a disgusting river, but she simply had to know.
The most petite of the Gorgon family stood to her feet, walking towards the light like a moth to a flame...
