It started out as a day like any other. Kai Haimura, tamer and high school boy, woke up. There was absolutely nothing to say that this day would be unlike any other he had had lately. It was a beautiful day outside. Birds were singing. Flowers were blooming. And a certain energetic white Digimon was bouncing up and down on Kai's chest. It is now that we feel the need to remind you that this is a Non-Canon thread, and thus Kai is not currently screaming in pain due to the stimulation of what would otherwise be broken ribs.
"C'mon! C'mon! Wake up already, Kai! We've got a big day ahead of us!" Wha? Kai was still drowsy. What was going on? Oh... Right. Nothing was going on. That was why Shiro was so excited! Kai had absolutely no excuses not to play with him today! No school, no clubs, not even homework! And he had made the mistake of letting Shiro know that, obviously! What time was it, anyways...? Nine? That... Wasn't so bad. Slept in more than he usual did, certainly.
Suddenly, with a 'phwump!' something else landed on the boy's chest. His drowsy mind wondered when the heck Kuro had reached the size of Shiro... And why she was jumping on his chest, with her brother. It was very uncharacteristic of her. Wait a second... Jumping? Kuro didn't jump! Her body wasn't built for that! Had a stray cat wandered in? Finally, Kai was awake enough to actually open his eyes.
And then he shut them again. And opened them. Shut. Open. Shut. Open. Was he dreaming? He had to be dreaming! The things he saw in front of his eyes couldn't possibly be in front of them! But... With each jump, each breath, each blink... It became increasingly obvious that Kai Haimura was not, in fact, dreaming. On his chest there was not one... But two of the white cat-creature which had been given the nickname, Shiro.
Kai looked at one. Then looked at the other. He still wasn't quite convinced he was awake. A thousand other options ran through his head. Illusion? Hologram? New technique? Practical joke? A doppleganger? Another Digimon of the same species? Clone? A cat that looked disturbingly like the Digimon? Both felt too real to be one of the first tow options! And their synchronized, "Kai! Play! Play!" counted out the last one. Worst of all, neither seemed to care about the sudden duplicate.
"Can. Some.one. exp.lain. to. me. Just. what. is. go.ing. on. here?" The constant 'whumfs' of Shiro landing on his chest forced him to punctuate every word with a small puff of air. But... Neither seemed interested in answering. And Kuro was fast asleep. "PLEASE!?" Kai blurted, unexpectedly loudly. "KEEP IT DOWN UP THERE!" came a voice wafting up from the floor below. Whoops, too loud. On the bright side, the noise had awoken Kuro, the black ferret-like partner of Kai's.
Kuro... Had about the same reaction as Kai. Double take. Blink. Blink. Blinkblinkblink. Shake head roughly to get rid of the drowsiness. Stare. Jaw drop. "Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me." What? It's almost like she'd never seen her own brother before! No wait, that wasn't it. It was the two of him that was the pro- No, wait, make that three. Three white Digimon bouncing on Kai's chest asking him to play with them. Kai... Supposed he'd better get up, get dressed, and figure out what was going on here.
The ensuing getting dressed montage was not created by special effects. It's just that Kai was in such a hurry that his movements were one big blur, punctuated by short, slow periods while he forced himself into clothes that were just a tad too small. The price he paid for being born to a poor family. But no matter how fast his panic caused him to change in... When he turned around, it was Shiro to the 6th power. six overly rambunctious, energetic Digimon. How long would it be before his parents noticed!? And how would he explain this to them!?
His hand went over his head in the classic gesture of, a facepalm. "Kuro... Please tell me you know what's going on." the human boy pleaded. This day was quickly going from bad to worse. And so, as expected... "I am sorry, Kai. I can not tell you what is happening. I was hoping that you could tell me." She did not feel half as calm as she sounded. One Shiro was a handful. Ten... Was a disaster! Wait, ten!? It felt that more were showing up every time they blinked! And they couldn't tell which one was which!
I SAID, KEEP IT DOWN!" Oh. The Shiro... Whatever they were, were starting to be noticeably loud. Kai had to do something before everything fell to pieces! "Err... Shiro?" Kai asked, tentatively. The response, however, was unanimous. "Yes?" Well... At least they talking in synch now. And quiet while they waited for whatever he was about to say. Heck, even he was waiting for whatever he was going to say! Sadly, if he didn't come up with something fast, the blessed silence would disappear again.
"Err..." carefully... Tentatively. This was Shiro after all. You had to be careful what you said, or he'd get all excited again. "First order of business... Let's get you somewhere with less people, okay? But only if you're quiet! If you aren't quiet, we'll stay here all day!" He threatened the assembled 20 cats. It was getting to the point where they didn't even fit on the bed! No way he'd get them in a bag! This was going to be... Long and awkward. "Remember. Say a word, and you won't leave this room for a month!" It was an empty threat... But effective!
It was an odd sight. A human boy with a black ferret around his neck, followed by 40 white cats like the pied piper's nephew. He drew more than a few stares as the pack of 80 cats marched onwards to the woods. A private place, where all of the cats could fill the branches. From a distance, it probably looked like there'd been a very localized snowfall over the forest! But at least there weren't any humans around. "Please, can you tell me what is going on here!?"
The hundred and sixty Digimon stared at him blankly. Wasn't it obvious? "Silly Kai! You're so busy with college, I decided to come back in time to play when you weren't busy!" Wait, since when could Shiro do that? On the other hand... It made about as much sense as the 320 identical copies filling the forest. Murmers of assent grew. "Yeah!" and "Really? Same here!" Kai was almost ready to just give up... But it was not yet time. "Err... How did you do that?" But Shiro... All six-hundred and forty of him, had lost interest. They were outside! Time to play!
Kai and Kuro could just stare at the solid white mass of cats. Twelve-hundred and eighty. This was getting ridiculous! Soon the Digimon wouldn't fit in the forest! Kai needed to get D.A.T.S. involved! Except he couldn't! He hadn't thought to pick up an emergency number! And there was a solid white wall keeping him locked here in this forest, occasionally dodging an overzealous Shiro who jumped at him. And there were a lot of those! They'd come back for him after all! The only possible bright side to this, was that future Kai and Kuro were getting... A lot of days of, presumably! At least... He hoped Shiro was waiting a day before coming back! Time travel was funny! For all Kai knew, each Shiro was the last one, having travelled forward in time again, and then come back 5 minutes later.
Which brought up an important point. The Shiro horde could go forward as well as backwards... Right? Please tell him they could! He couldn't deal with all 2560 Digimon on his own! He needed an adult! But soon, he just gave up. Over five thousand, you say? No problem! The rest... Passed in a blur. Though that may have been because all he could see was white fur as he was buried beneath a pile of warm bodies. Being able to breathe was a miracle.
And then... Suddenly as they came... Every single one vanished. Well, all, save for one. The original Shiro, the one who belonged, the one who couldn't answer any of the questions that burned in his mind. He had been told why... But how! How the heck had Shiro pulled such a thing off!? Were time machines common in the future, so soon as Kai's collegiate years!? Or was there a Digimon that controlled time that sent them back!? He'd never know! Glancing around, he carefully picked up a shivering Kuro. "White... So much white... It's everywhere..." muttered the traumatized creature. Poor Kuro. He'd have to get her back home, to safety.
On his way home... he had a thought. Shiro had picked today, because Kai had been free this day. Did that mean that the swarm would return every time he had a day off!? The thought of that... Was more than a little terrifying. He couldn't handle any more than this! What was he to do!? Well... He'd think on it tomorrow. For now, he was just glad it was over... Though certainly, it would be plastered on the news for a while. He didn't even care what they called it, or that D.A.T.S. was sure to get mad at him for it. He was just tired and wanted to sleep.
He was several blocksfrom his home, when he could tell something was wrong. "We got bored so we came back!" mewed the crowd of approximately ten thousand, two hundred and forty KoShiromon.
"C'mon! C'mon! Wake up already, Kai! We've got a big day ahead of us!" Wha? Kai was still drowsy. What was going on? Oh... Right. Nothing was going on. That was why Shiro was so excited!
