As soon as everyone took their places, King Etemon shot his hand into the air for a three count. The audience's hype was deafening. King Etemon flashed a smile, eager to begin. The long awaited first round was finally here. "Let Round one begin in 3.... 2.... 1...." He brought his hand down, signalling the start. "FIGHT!"

"Nishishi, we meet again!" Shiro told Guilix, chuckling. Kai... Would have liked to exchange pleasantries with Josh Sparks before the bought... But as soon as they reached the stadium, the match had been declared as starting! Kai was in a panic! What was he supposed to do, give commands? Shiro was the better battler between the two of them! Not being able to evolve him... Made Kai feel rather weak, to be honest. Useless. Dead weight. In short, a cheering squad with front row seats. But did Shiro even stand a chance?
"Err... Shiro..." Kai began, certain he should at least say something before the battle. But he was interrupted before he could say anything. "Just stand there and watch, Kai! I got this!" Shiro declared, full of confidence. Of course he was! He hadn't seen Josh's partner finish off a Champion level Digimon in a single blow! Even if they were both limited to Rookie level for now... Kai couldn't bring himself to feel confident. In any case... It would be a good experience, for the both of them. A chance to see how an experienced battler fought. And if they ended up losing... Well, Shiro could use having an edge taken off that needless confidence... Right?
Shiro charged forward. Having to assuage his tamer's concerns was such a time sink! The battle had already started! He faced down Guilix, a wild grin on his face. "He who makes the first move wins! Charging Headbutt!" He declared, leaping towards his foe headfirst. The battle was on! Kai could only watch and hope for the best.

"Same with you two! I'm glad you guys are doing well, and found your way to the digital world! It seems this is a proving grounds for everyone haha!", he chuckled as the rookie stood before him, arms crossed huffing a bit of smoke from his nostrils.
"Lets see if you took my advice! This tournament is exactly the kind I like, everyone on even footing, using your skill as opposed to power levels and stuff like that! But you know, you've heard my shpeel before", he laughed a bit.
Guilix waited, focused and ready. The fight had already begin and here they were, chit chatting. Normally he'd be chatty too but he had something to prove, and no way he'd loose to this dweeb.
A head on attack? Sloppy
He would slide to the left and skid to a stop, looking toward the other rookie, mouth glowing a bit red before he he launched off a fireball. "RED HELIX FLAME!"

Hey! Dodging was no fair! Kai could only watch as Shiro was struck in the side by Guilix's attack. "Gyah!" Shiro called in pain, but aside from a clearly burnt patch on his shoulder, he seemed healthy. Vitality was the only thing the white creature had going for him, after all. Especially considering his lack of interest in dodging. Dodging meant you were scared of the attack, after all! And Shiro wasn't scared, not one bit! He was the strongest, after all! Strongest and invincible! He whirled around towards his foe. "Sharpened Claws!" He cried, raking towards the other Digimon with a paw.
Kai... Knew that Shiro didn't care about strategy one bit. He was too straightforward to do anything tricky. It was why, despite his clear physical advantage over his sister... He was much less suited for battle. Yet he was the one who enjoyed fighting! Kai grimaced, knowing... That at this rate, Shiro would just be taking a one sided beating. Unless he somehow managed to stop Guilix from dodging... But how could Shiro possibly do that!

Sloppy sloppy sloppy.
"Your attacks are sloppier than my eating habits!", the dino shouted, meaning it to be an insult to you. Josh chuckled a bit at the comment watching the fight, not providing much input.
Normally they'd be working together, strategizing and calling each other's shots, but this was Guilix's test, this whole tournament was, to see how well he had grown as a fighter.
He barely saw this as a test though, frowning dully as he hopped back out of range of the telegraphed attack. He hadn't even had to draw his sword what was this? Well, may as well mix it up a bit, see if this guy had any weaknesses~
"Blue Helix Pellets!", he shouted and blasted the blue flames out of his mouth at the ground below the enemy mon, freezing it into a small but slippery spot of ice.
Now he was just messing around with him, this wasn't what Josh had wanted, in fact, quite the opposite, he shook his head a bit. If his partner was going to keep this up he may just have to intervene.

The ground beneath Shiro's paws turned to ice, or so it seemed. Kai opened his mouth to shout a warning... But Shiro didn't even seem to care. His claws were still extended from his failed attack, and they dug right into the icy patch. Plenty to give him traction, despite the slippery ice. Not that Shiro really cared about that. What the small white Digimon did care about was that he was being toyed with. Shiro snarled. If only Guilix would stand still! If Shiro could just land one blow! But there was no time for such subtleties! Shiro pulled himself taught, then sprung himself towards Guilix once more. "Charging Headbutt!"
Kai didn't expect it to land. Why would Guilix possibly stop dodging now? No... If Shiro was going to pull this off, it would take a miracle. He was so pigheaded! He'd probably rather die than dodge. But if he couldn't land a blow, and wouldn't dodge a blow... The result was inevitable! If only Kai were more experienced! Able to give battle directions, make up for Shiro's lack of thinking by thinking for him... Maybe then they would stand a chance. But he panicked! He saw Shiro fighting... And his mind went blank. He needed... He wished he had had time to prepare. Wished he'd known what Shiro was planning. They had learned about this so long ago... He could have studied... Come up with a plan, strategies... Anything! Anything to let him do more than sit here, silently begging Shiro to stay safe.

Guilix's little attempt at the ice strategy had failed, though it didn't seem to be anything big. In fact, he seemed like he was stalling. Josh was a bit upset about this at first frowning at his own partner and then looking to Shiro, even sighing a bit as he launched yet another headbutt. It was so obvious, plain as day.
Guilix could easily just dodge it again, though, maybe Josh could use this as an opportunity to even the playing field a bit. A hint. "Guilix, Don't use another Helix attack, you know if you use them too much it backfires!". He was speaking to his digimon but he was looking to Kai.
"No duh I know that... why the heck are you-", he began as he sidestepped the attack and finally drew his sword, attempting to strike his speeding opponent with the flat edge as he passed.
Hopefully they'd be able to come up with something based on that little tidbit, knowing anything about Guilix he had his temper.

Shiro grinned as the Chibiguilmon finally drew forth his weapon. Doing that meant his opponent was finally taking him serioulsy! Or so the white Digimon thought. Sure, he was using the flat of the blade... But Shiro either didn't notice or didn't care. Kai, on the other hand, simply and plainly did not notice. "Shiro! Sword!" He called, slightly horrified at the thought of Shiro charging right into the blade, and subsequently getting cut in half.
Shiro, however, seemed to take this the exact opposite way. "I hear ya! Charging Headbutt!" Shiro declared, as if that were his only attack. It may as well be, the charge, his claws, and his energy blast seemed to be the only moves Shiro used. Kai was slightly surprised that Shiro hadn't resorted to the energy blast just yet. Was he saving it to use as a last resort? Kai didn't think SHiro was that smart... But it was true that unless Josh had told him about it, Guilix had been slightly knocked out when Shiro had used it on the Greymon. Perhaps that was the key to... Well, Kai didn't expect to win, but to at least lose in a manner that wouldn't be embarassing for the prideful Shiro.
SHiro's headbutt, though, was not aimed at Guilix this time. This time, he was happy to throw himself headfirst at the blade that was aimed at him. This slippery lizard may be dodging all of Shiro's moves, but let's see how he reacts to a counterattack! After all, Kai had said it. Sword! Attack the sword! Surely Kai knew what he was doing! Nothing less from Shiro's partner!
Kai, of course, had meant nothing of the sort, and was still vaguely certain that Shiro was about to be cut in half.

Though he was hoping his opponent would switch it up he hadn't really been expecting it. The counterattack was sudden and kind of clever. The head but hit the flat of the sword and sent it ricocheting back quickly, right into his own face. It seemed to happen in slow motion, the chibiguilmon slammed in the snoot by the blunt of his own blade!
Was that, actually some strategy? He stumbled back and fell on his but for a moment, more surprised than injured but it was indeed a hit! "Gah heck- ngg", he growled, "Dumb luck!".
Be it dumb luck or not Josh was a bit impressed, smiling a little. They had finally switched it up a bit, not going for a direct offence, it may not be what he'd call a strategy yet but it was a move that showed at least a bit of thought and potential, somewhere deep down, and that's what he liked to see!
"Nice hit Shiro!", he began cheerfully before more sternly adding, "Guilix! Don't let your guard down!"

"Should you really be cheering on your opponent...?" Kai asked tentatively of the other human. At the same time, Shiro boasted, "Hah! The only one here who needs luck... is you! Heavy Claw!" Not letting up ever, Shiro lunged towards his opponent, claws extended. Kai, on the other hand, was still very confused by Josh. What was with him, cheering for his opponent? Kai simply couldn't get a read. Oh well, that wasn't really an issue. What really mattered was... Well, so far, Guilix was just toying with Shiro. Kai... Hadn't meant to come here, but seeing his partner in such a state.. It just felt bad! Especially... Since there wasn't anything he could do to help. He didn't know how to fight! In his sixteen years of life, he had not once fought! And now, it seemed, he'd have to learn! After all, not every fight would be a tournament... And not every foe would stop themselves from killing!

"I'm here to teach and to learn, so I'm more than happy to see you succeed if it means you two become better and closer to each other", he added, you could practically see his grin gleaming from across the battlefield.
Meanwhile, Guilix would be rolling his eyes if it weren’t for the fact he was just knocked on his rear. The follow-up attack from his opponent came too fast to properly avoid as well, He held up his sword a bit but it just got slashed from his hands, his claws swiped by the attack as he growled, gritting his teeth and quickly rolling to the side to try to get away, he was on the defensive now it seemed and it was mostly his fault for toying with his opponent.
White helix pellets!" he shouted, still on his belly, growling at the pain in his claws as he roughly aimed and spat out the white flame pellets at his enemy, he fired a few before coughing and shivering at a bit of electrical backlash, he'd been relying on his fire too much it seemed.
[White is Electric]

To the surprise of no one ever, Shiro had absolutely no qualms allowing himself to be struck full on by Guilix's attack- A costly mistake. "Gyah!" The Digimon let out, as electricity coursed through his body. He tried to lift his paw, lay a blow on his opponent, before he could stand up- But his body wouldn't listen. "What... Did... You..." The white Digimon forced out.
But Shiro was not out for the count yet. His body refusing to listen prevented him from swiping, or charging- But he had one last trick up his sleeve. "Little... Blast..." He declared, firing his own white energy blast. A white blast, like Guilix's, but singular and larger. And not charged with electricity. Still, not something pleasant to be hit by- And hopefully, dealing with it would give Shiro time for the stun to wear off.
The white Digimon was still playing it cool, but Kai knew it was a front. How many more attacks could Shiro take? Certainly not many. If he was going to win... He was going to have to close this out fast. Wait, since when was Kai so interested in winning? He didn't even want to fight! He just wanted Shiro to not get hurt! So... Why was it, that all he wanted was to say... "Shiro! You can do it!"
Wait, had he said that out loud...?
