Mitsuko was glad to get back to the hospital. She brushed away a few stray hairs, that had been blown in her face by the wind. Mitsuko's blue eyes glittered silently, as she exited the elevator. She could see Kai's door, her heart started to beat faster. Why was she so nervous?! She unconsciously clutched her violin closer to her chest. She looked to Haruki and knocked on the door. She was curious as to what he bought Kai, as she opened the door. "Kai-sama? We're back!" her bell-like voice called as she entered the room. She set her violin on the floor, as she sat down in a chair. A soft blush began to grace her cheeks, as she looked towards Kai.
Haruki burst into the room with Mitsuko. "Ah, well, actually... I gotta go now! Have fun you two!" And with that, he flung the bag he held over to Kai, disregarding Kai's current inability to catch it. Whoops. Maybe Mitsuko would catch it. Or it would just land on Kai. In either case, Haruki had already zipped out like a gust of wind. He might as well leave those two alone for a bit.
Kai, on the other hand barely seemed to react. "Sama...?" he queried. That was.... Not the honorific he had expected. In fact... It was weird overall. She was being excessively polite... Scarily polite, in fact. Yet she used his given name, rather than his family name. What was going on in her head?
Using the athletic abilities she had honed, Mitsuko leapt from her chair, and caught the bag. Her body staggering slightly from the impact. She caught the look of confusion and surprise on Kai's face as she turned around. Instantly Mitsuko's eyes cast down, towards the floor. "Here..." she said softly, as she gently placed the bag Haruki had thrown onto Kai's bed. "Please excuse my errors. I am still trying to get used to using the proper terms. I meant no disrespect." Mitsuko ran a hand through her hair.
"I lived in England for 8 years. I moved back to Japan about a year ago." Mitsuko thought about England for a minute. She missed her old volleyball and gymnastics team. Her art teachers, but most of all her music courses. Her mind suddenly snapped back to the present. "Please, open it. I am curious as to what Haruki-kun got you." a delicate smile graced her face as she looked back into Kai's eyes.
The door opens again and a boy steps inside. In his mid-teens, wearing a green hoodie with the hood up. How very non-suspicious. His exposed left forearm (rolled-up sleeves) is wrapped in thin bandages, and the left side of his face has a few band-aids on (not that they completely hide the cuts and burns that are present very well...). He raises a hand, "Yo," He adjusts the strap of his bag. And then notices Kai isn't alone.
"Oh. Hey," The boy offers a smile and a little wave to the girl. He hadn't expected him to have company. "Sorry, am I interrupting?" How surprisingly considerate of you. Poor boy's very subdued today, at least compared to his usual explosive enthusiasm. Maybe someone switched him to decaf, and his injuries are a result of the planet-devastating battle that ensued.

Mitsuko jumped in surprise at the sudden appearance of this new boy. She turns around, to look at the new arrival. She notes the green hoodie, and bandages, as she brushes a pale hand through her long hair. "Hello." Mitsuko says softly, as she looks into the new boy's face. "No, you're not interrupting anything at all." Mitsuko felt her face turn a slight pink. "I'm just a Hospital Volunteer. Mitsuko Kaioh, Dr. Kaioh's daughter." Mitsuko bowed gracefully to the boy. She fidgeted with the strap of her bag, as she stood back up."I was just giving Haimura-Sama a gift to brighten his day." Mitsuko fumbled in her own bag, as she pulled out the wrapped package.
Mitsuko jumped again, as something fell out of her bag, as she pulled out Kai's gift. It had clattered to the floor, and fallen beneath Kai's bed before she could really catch a glimpse of it. "What was that?" Mitsuko said softly, more to herself, than to the boys in the room. Gently, she placed the package on Kai's bed, next to Haruki's gift. Mitsuko knew nothing else should have been in the bag. "Excuse me." Mitsuko gently lowered herself to the floor, being careful with her short skirt, while reaching for the fallen object. Her blue eyes sparkled, as she felt her hand wrap around the device.
As she stood up, she opened her hand. A strange looking white and teal device sat in the palm of her hand. It was oval-ish in shape, and slightly cool to the touch. She noticed the time was on the interface of the device, making her think it was a watch of sorts. Then a realization hit her. "Oh no ..." Mitsuko moaned, as she sunk down into a chair "I'm a shoplifter. I didn't know it was in my bag when I bought it." Mitsuko felt the tears brimming in her eyes. "I better make this right. I have to go back to the Mall and return it."
Kai was about to check Haruki's gift for him, when a series of events makes doing so... Less than a priority. First Scout pops in, visibly injured. "Scout? What the... What happened... to you?" Then he blushes ever so slightly. "No... Not interrupting anything. Err... come in. This is-" Oh, nope, there Mitsuko had already introduced herself. Which was good, because his various degrees of 'broken' were making it hard to talk. Hopefully Scout and Mitsuko would hit it off, so he wouldn't have to say much. Still... He wanted to correct her use of honorifics! He was not a, 'sama!' People would misunderstand!
But that was suddenly far less than a top priority. A Digivice had fallen out of Mitsuko's bag.Even in his... Less than capacitated state, Kai could tell that much. And Mitsuko didn't know what it was- That much was clear from her despairing cries of being an accidental shoplifter! "Not... A shoplifter..." Kai croaked. Great. This was going to take some explanation. Good thing Scout was here to do all the talking for him. But come on! How many people, now, had become Digidestined withinute days... Nay, within hours of meeting Kai!?
Was he some sort of... King Midas for Digidestined?
'Sama'. Scout looks at her, and then at Kai with a small smirk that says he completely...has misread the entire situation here. Yup. He offers a small bow to the girl, "It's nice to meet you, I'm Scout Evans, Kai's...babysitter," What. "Mm? Oh. Nothing happened to me, just someone throwing their weight around over near the train station," He stresses the words, hoping Kai'll get the hint and drop it. For now, at least.
He's about to say something unimaginably witty that would be remembered for decades to come when...what is that. Is that a Digivice? It is! Like the one his brother used to use! "Ah! She's got one too!" He beams, and then...realizes what she's saying, "Oh! You didn't steal it. Probably. You've been chosen to fulfill a very special purpose, as crazy as it sounds," Fortunately he doesn't mention how crazy dangerous it all is, or how it's responsible for both he and Kai getting injured.
Kai's words bounced within her head. Not... a shop lifter. She felt herself straighten up a bit in the chair, blinking away her tears. "I got one too?" Mitsuko repeated Scout's words, her mind full of questions. She was 'Chosen' for a purpose. "What purpose?" She accidentally blurted out, before she could stop herself. A soft blush graced her face from her accidental outburst. She looked back to the teal and white device, to hide her embarrassment. She would be lying if she said she didn't feel drawn to it. It seemed like a part of herself in a way. An extension, like her violin. "What is this thing?" Her voice was soft, but loud enough for the boys to hear her. She tore her gaze from the device, and looked at Scout and Kai. Scout seemed thrilled, but Kai seemed... upset? Or was he just tired. A small voice echoed the words her mother once told her 'For every answer there are two more questions.'
"Scout... Can... You..." Oww. Oww. Oww. No more talking. Hopefully Scout figured out what he meant. He would happily explain if talking didn't feel like someone was trying to stab him in the chest! It struck him that he really hoped said explanation did not involve Agunimon in the hospital. That would end badly, Kai was most certain of it.
Scout reaches into his satchel and pulls out a black and green device, holding it up for Mitsuko to inspect. While it seems to be quite different, there's a similar...feel to it? Maybe they were both made by the same people. "It's called a D-Sc--...wait, no. Uh. A Digivice! Right. Yeah. That's the general term for them all. They're connected to a parallel dimension filled with wildly varied...entities. Generally having one of these," he shakes his D-Scanner, "or...rather one like yours means you have a partner waiting somewhere for you, from said dimension,"
He looks over at Kai, "Oi. Come on, back me up here. Get it out and show her," ... "...Your Digivice," Oh thank god. Maybe he should've called Takahiro to explain all this. Although frankly he isn't sure his brother could've made it sound any less crazy than he did, so. Whatever.
Mitsuko looked at Scout's Digivice, as he had called it. It was different than the one in her hand. However she could tell that they were similar enough to be of the same origins. "Parallel dimension... various entities?" As Mitsuko spoke the words she knew them to be true. Kai couldn't be playing a trick on her. She hadn't let her bag out of her sight since she bought it! Kai... "Oh my god, Kai!" Mitsuko exclaimed as her brain put two and two together. "These... entities... one of them did this to you… both of you..." Mitsuko whispered.
"A partner? Like a police officer? Mitsuko pondered aloud. Why me? Why was I chosen? Why now? Mitsuko's curious mind worked itself into hyperdrive, finding more questions than answers.
Kai couldn't exactly deny it. It was true, a Digimon had done this to him. Besides, he kind of couldn't talk very well at the moment. Scouts explanation was, well... Kai couldn't have explained any better. Quite a bit worse, in fact. Good thing Scout was here to do this! No matter how many people Kai tried to explain Digimon to... He would never feel comfortable doing it. Bleh.
Wait, if Scout was here...
The Spirit user had taken in Kai's partners, Kuro and Shiro, while Kai was in the hospital. Keep them fed, and away from people who didn't know about Digimon. But he also often brought them to visit Kai, here in the hospital. For a second, Kai was horrified at the idea of Shiro popping out in front of Mitsuko.
And then he remembered that Mitsuko was a tamer now. And then Shiro popped out in front of Mitsuko.
"New person? Hiya! Wanna play? You're it!" Shiro didn't leave a lot of room for response as he started running around the hospital room. Hey, at least it was a... Somewhat silly first impression of Digimon? Kai couldn't exactly see the goings-on, but he knew Shiro well enough to guess.
"No, like that." He points at Shiro, "Didn't I tell you to stay in the bag? By Yggdrasil's Claws, you're worse than...me," Scout rubs the bridge of his nose, and then smirks a little, completely oblivious to the fact he's started using the same generic Digimon curse as BlackAgumon. "Digimon. It's short for something, I think, but I can never remember what. Um. This is..." He holds up his D-Scanner and brings up Shiro's data, "KoShiromon. One of Kai's partners. I guess that makes the other one KoKuromon? Jeez. Whoever generates these names is lazy,"
"Buuuut. Having a Digivice probably means there's a Digitama--a, uh...an egg--out there with your partner in. Or maybe it already hatched and they're waiting for you. I dunno how it works exactly. My brother's came flying out of the TV and hatched into a giant fairy." Little bit of an oversimplification, but...alright.
Mitsuko gasped at the sudden appearance of Shiro. She covered her mouth, to stifle any noise that she might make. After a fraction of a second her mind processed a few things at once. 1. Digimon are real things. 2. She was chosen to be like Kai, and Scout. 3. Her life would constantly be in danger, but it wouldn't ever be the same again. She looked at KoShiromon. He was... cute! There was something innocent and child-like about him. She also knew not to underestimate the small fellow.
She addressed Shiro first, " Uhm, KoShiromon? I don't think it's a good idea to play in here. We could hurt Kai. However, I promise to play with you somewhere... safer." She hoped Shiro would calm down, and not knock anything over. One wrong move and a team of medical staff could storm in here, and there would be a lot of explaining to do. Above all, she really wanted to hold Shiro, he looked so... fluffy!
Banishing the thought, she turned to Scout. "I haven't seen an egg, or a ... Digimon. Wait a second, Kai has two partners? That's really... cool! Is the other one still in the bag?" I wonder if my partner is waiting for me... Mitsuko looked at her bag sadly. She hoped that they didn't have to wait too long. "A fairy? Really? I wonder what my partner will be like. Hey, maybe you guys can help me find my partner. If you want. After you heal that is." Mitsuko's eyes resting upon Kai.
Shiro was quite obviously confused, as he skidded to a stop, and hopped onto the bed next to Kai. "KoShiromon?" Shiro asked quizzically, having long forgotten his own name. He also wasn't all to clear on the concept of safer, but since Mitsuko had promised to play he didn't really care. "Okay! Let's go to Safer!" Shiro declared, hopping back down. And promptly walking into the door. Thud. "I meant to do that!" would waft up from the dazed, cat-like Digimon.
A dark, sleek head poked out of Scout's bag. "Do pardon my brother. He is..." What Kuro thought of Shiro was lost, however, as Shiro butt in with, "Shiro is Shiro!" Apparently, he had recovered from his close encounter of the door-th kind. As always, he was happy to interrupt Kuro. Kai wondered if he knew he was about to be insulted or not. Then again, this was Shiro. In other words, almost certainly not.
"Yeah! We'll find your partner, no problem!" Shiro declared enthusiastically. Shiro loved finding things. Especially spirit totems, but digi-eggs were fun to hunt for too! Kai, on the other hand... "Eggs... tend to..." He started coughing. Painfully. Kuro quickly climbed to his side, to try and comfort him. "Don't speak, Kai. I'll take it from here."
Kuro turned to Mitsuko and continued where Kai had left off. "Eggs tend to find their Tamer, rather than the other way around. I wouldn't worry too much about finding it, as I'm sure it will turn up. Still... Kai would be glad to join you if he could, but that may be a while due to his condition. That should be what he was trying to say." If Kai was able to move enough, he would have confirmed Kuro's ability to guess what he was thinking. But alas, he wasn't exactly in any condition to do that. Or to hunt for digi-eggs, for that matter.
