“…Where… where am I???” Gallatin called out as he found himself floating in what he could only describe as an Infinite spanning darkness. He tried looking for some sort of object besides himself, but saw none at all… this place was completely empty…
“How did I even get here…” He wondered. “Wherever ‘here’ even is.” The last thing Gallatin could remember was… He was in a forest looking for… a person. “Yeah, that girl Alicia.” There was some sort of thing that hit his shoulder too.
Gallatin looked to his side to confirm this fact, but saw his shoulder was perfectly fine now. He tried to think harder on remembering how he got in this place. “Okay. Think. I found Alicia… In a clearing? Yeah! She was fighting a digimon and was going to be hit in the back of head with an arrow. I stopped time, and caught it I think?” Try as he could, he couldn’t remember what had happened after that; which posed a problem seeing as how he was currently stuck in some kind of black void.
“Oh… Don’t be afraid… You’re perfectly safe… For now.” A voice spoke out from the dark void.
“What? AncientKronosmon, that’s not you is it?” Gallatin yelled out, the voice sounded familiar but not like his spirit’s one. He looked around the infinite blackness, but couldn’t see anything at all past his own shadow.
…wait a second. How could he even see his shadow in a place with no light? It seemed impossible, but Gallatin moved his body as a similar shaped, flat form did exactly as him like a shadow; its color seeming to exceed the lightless zone’s in a dark black that seemed to absorb all darkness around it. “What the hell…”
“Am I?” The voice finished his sentence. He looked down at the shadow for a second, before it began to move on its own. It paced back and forth for a while before it “jumped’. “Ah, I know how I can explain this better!” The shadow Gallatin leapt seemingly out of its 2D dimension and formed an almost perfect copy of Gallatin, clothes and all, except that everything about it was completely black.
Its pupil-less eyes focused on Gallatin, sending a chill down his spine as it spoke again. “To make this easier, why don’t you call me ShadowGallatin.” The self-named ShadowGallatin said, before slowly raising his arm to point at Gallatin. “And to make this simple… I am you.”
This entire ordeal was just confusing to Gallatin. Where was he and what was the hell was this freaky black thing that looked like him. “What does that even mean!? Where am I? What do you want?!” He bombarded the creature with questions, his anger escalating as ShadowGallatin smirked in a way that made Gallatin want nothing more than to punch him.
“I already told you.” ShadowGallatin said smugly, sweeping his arms for added effect. “I am you. A bi product of all of your negative feelings and emotions. And to put it simply, you are currently where I have been trapped within your mind for the last 16 years. You don’t understand how long I’ve planned to get out of this cold, dark prison; well, you will soon…” He drifted closer to Gallatin with each word, before finally hovering so close that their noses were almost touching. “...when I take your body for myself.”
Gallatin scrambled backwards, flapping his arms like wings to get away from his shadowy self. “Look, I don’t know what the hell you are or where we are; but you better step back!” He yelled, half in anger, half in fright. “Plus, I don’t swing that way.” Gallatin added as a side thought, trying to ease his anxiety more than make a joke.
“Oh, you know exactly what I mean. After all, we are the same person. I’m just more willing to get what’s done. The reason this was possible though was that you crossed the bloody line finally.” He pointed his finger as he dug his point in. “You finally murdered. This was restricted to mostly my domain of our persona, so by overlapping them, I could pull you down here in your weak and unconscious state to switch.”
“You think I’m just going to give up my body without a fight, Freak!?” Gallatin shouted, still trying to figure out how to maneuver in this void while sounding intimidating.
ShadowGallatin sighed at this, tilting his head down and holding the bridge of his nose in tiredness. “No. We will obviously have to fight for control. I will undoubtly win though.” He uttered, while spreading his arms wide, as if asking to be attacked. “But I’m not unfair, my impartial counterpart. See that event horizon over yonder.” He pointed out what looked to be a circle of extreme darkness that was slowly approaching them from a long distance. Now that Gallatin had it pointed out to him, he could feel a great force bearing down on himself slowly. “That is the signal of what you might normally refer to as a Black Hole. In exactly 5 minutes, it will be at our position. It is the only gateway from here back to our body. As you are obviously at a disadvantage moving here, while I have lived under these conditions my entire existence, I would obviously reach it first. So to make it fair, I shall fight you. You may do whatever you wish to try and defeat me. If you are able to within the 4 minutes and 38 seconds before the event horizon approaches, you will be able to return to your body and forget about me.” He flew at Gallatin with a blinding speed. “THE CLOCK STARTS NOW!”
“I Say it stops! EXECUTE SPIRIT EVOLUTION!” Gallatin screamed out while whipping his digivice from its holster, only to have it suddenly vanish from his hand and reappear in the ShadowGallatin’s!? “What the He-“ He was interrupted from his confusion as ShadowGallatin closed the distance between them and kicked him in the head, further away from the black hole. “GAH! WHAT THE HELL YOU’RE CHEATING!” He screamed in outrage after coming to a stop.
“You idiot.” ShadowGallatin spat in gleeful content, twirling his digivice in his hand before making it vanish. “I completely control this domain. You truly believe I would create your clothes and digivice in this realm for you to use against me?” He once again dashed at Gallatin before kicking him back further. He did this several times, materializing behind Gallatin only to kick him back and forth, driving the air out of his gut and breaking several ribs. Finally he stopped and stared at his motionless form before spitting on him and lightly throwing him to the side as ShadowGallatin kicked his body away from him. “Tch. Pitiful. I can’t believe you were the only thing standing between me and freedom… Let’s see… I think the first thing I will do when I get free is murder our family, never did like them… Oooh then I think I’ll kill that Maia girl. Not that I care about her but according to your thoughts you have grown quite infatuated with her. Hehehe. It will be quite hilarious having you suffer watching me here as I completely destroy everything you’ve ever loved and or care about!”
…Gallatin was completely motionless, there was nothing he could do. He was completely useless without his Digivice. Without it, Gallatin was the same useless and weak boy he had been all of his life… he was hopelessly useless... “Maybe… maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I did just disappear…”
…
“Honestly, you really are hopeless aren’t you?” A new and very familiar voice spoke out from the blackness, before a white light flew from the event horizon and slammed into ShadowGallatin; knocking him almost a mile away before hovering over Gallatin. “I don’t even know why I stick with you… but even you have your charms and uses.” The light materialize to form a towering draconic figure with emerald colored scales and a blazing red infinity symbol glowing on his chest plate. He held a staff in his right hand, an hourglass forming the hilt. It was AncientKronosmon!
“AncientKronosmon?” Gallatin spoke out weakly in confusion. “How did you get here?”
“Quiet for now. There isn’t much time. We have to beat that Shadow quickly before the event horizon is upon us and you’ll be trapped forever” He spoke out seriously, pulling Gallatin up to an upright position and holding him up with one of his shining wings.
“I-I can’t…” Gallatin admitted, dejectedly. “I’m useless without my digivice and your spirit powers. I don’t deserve to live out there. I’m just an unworthy weakling like you’ve been telling me…”
AncientKronosmon sighed as he gripped Gallatin’s shoulder harder. “Boy, if all you’ve taken from our time together is that you’re unworthy and weak; then I think that I’m looking at some other clone of you.” He stated. “There was a specific reason why I chose you to be my successor, and it wasn’t because you were in the right place at the right time.” His finger glowed as he slowly extended his finger and pressed it on Gallatin’s chest. “It’s because of your soul. You have a strong spirit, Gallatin. One that I was drawn to unlike anything else. You will do great things in your life, I can tell. You will even surpass me one day if you believe in yourself.” Images flashed to Gallatin’s mind… It was of AncientKronosmon except younger… he was a Chronamon in the images. It showed him walking alone in the rain in some village before collapsing… another showed a human, one that looked like Gallatin except older and dressed in feudal clothing and a straw hat, holding him up. There were even more, of the duo fighting Giant Devil Digimon, AncientKronosmon and the man eating together, crying together, the man dying in battle, AncientKronosmon’s tears falling as a Golden Light enveloped him, making him transform.
“Do you see now, ‘Griever’… The truth is that you and I have quite the history together. Fate has a funny way of cycling, once you were the master and I was the student. Heh. If you could see this now.” A single tear fell from his eyes as his form began flickering out.
“AncientKronosmon!” Gallatin yelled out as his long time only friend and teacher was fading away.
He stared at his clawed hands as his tears now fell freely. “Ah. Looks like my time is finally up. Don’t worry Gallatin, Griever, and all names you will go by. You will make the best choices, I know it… Shine… Golden Knight…” And just like that, he was gone…
Gallatin was silent for a moment… giving a moment to grieve for the loss of one of his good friends… Sure they hadn’t gotten along the best, but he still was the only friend he had ever had! It wasn’t fair, and after he had just gotten to know him; that they had even known each other in a past life… “But he’s not gone… is he.” Gallatin said to himself. One of AncientKronosmon’s tears that fell in his hand glowed brightly as he held it close to his chest… “No… he’s still here with me… AND I WILL NEVER FORGET!!!” A bright light emerged from within himself as he remembered the name that had been created upon AncientKronosmon’s first loss of his friend…
A bright Red light began to shine from the Infinity Symbol on Gallatin's forehead. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The light entirely engulfed him before now turning bright green in a blinding ray. "GAAAAAAH!!!" He screamed out. This time, the same bright blue data sphere engulfed him. But instead of staying like that, it folded inward on itself and morphed into the exact shape of Chronamon's body, as if acting as a cover on him. It slowly extracted bits and pieces of his data as he jumped into the air instinctively.
"BURST THROUGH THE MODE! MIRACULOUS MODE CHANGE!!!"
Around Gallatin, the blue layer of data disappeared for a moment after completely purifying and extracting his data. At first, he looked like just regular Chronamon floating in the air before something happened. Out of nowhere, a gold Plate seemed to bulge out of his forehead as his infinity symbol was replaced by a similarly colored symbol, but on a golden plate of armor.
His arms in a second were covered layer by layer of a golden armor as it slowly spread from his chest to the rest of his body. It covered the sides of his head, leaving only the face open as his insignia blazed brightly on his forehead. Gallantly, he mimed pulling down a visor of sorts over his face and his attire was complete as a shining golden Knight's helmet was completed around his head as tears fell from his quivering eyes, lined in silver; his body now completely covered in the armor and emitting and holy light.
“What? No! This can’t be happening YOU CAN’T DO THIS! THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY TIME TO LIVE! MY TIME!!!” ShadowGallatin yelled seeing Gallatin’s golden transformation, practically burning with rage as he summoned hundreds upon hundreds of purple pentagrams around Gallatin that began firing blast after blast of energy blades at him. All of them bounced off harmlessly from Gallatin’s armor as he began to walk forward, materializing a floor as he moved.
ShadowGallatin started bawling. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go! He was supposed to win and trap his loser-self down here forever! Out of desperation, he ditched all efforts of attacking and began flying as fast as he could towards the event horizon! “I WILL STILL WIN! HAHAHAHAHA!!!”
Gallatin’s eyes blazed in fury behind his helmet visor, a steady stream of tears leaking though it. He dashed forward, leaving a trail of light that cut through the darkness around them as he approached his evil self. “That’s where you’re wrong. I realize it now.” He summoned a sword from the light that glowed ethereally with holy light as he blazed forward and literally cut through the darkness on a direct path with his Shadow self before impaling him. “I know I am weak alone… but I’m not alone!” He screamed out as he his sword sliced completely through his Shadow self. ShadowGallatin began screaming in terror, anger, and unearthly pain as he was driven forward with Gallatin, right at the Event Horizon.
“I’m never alone because my soul is forever connected…” Images of his previous encounters flashed through Gallatin’s mind. His first meeting with Maia. His encounter with Shi. How AncientKronosmon had met him and guided him through the digital world. All of the tamers and friends he had made since that day in the forest. He wasn’t strong, but he had something he didn’t before… He had friends. “The souls of those that have passed on, the hopes and faith of those to come; all intertwining to form a never ending chain that extends beyond what I am capable of and beyond just myself!”
“My friends… Heh…” He chuckled at how emotional he had become before becoming serious again and forcing all of his energy and soul and feelings into the blade and they streaked into the event horizon, causing a massive explosion that destroyed the existence of this world they were in.
“MY FRIENDS ARE MY POWER!!!”
