While Isaac didn't necessarily seem convinced, Maia figured it was nothing to press on. After all, what else could his mom's paperwork be for? Trying to think about it just hurt the teen's head. She wondered what Isaac thought the paperwork could mean but, again, chose not to question. Hopefully, he was just overthinking!
To the joke, the blonde only found herself smiling. No plan usually worked out pretty well for them, didn't it? As long as they didn't get hopelessly lost, or eaten by something, all would work out just fine! Or, at least, that was what she was going to keep telling herself! But, if they were just going to check out some monuments or the park, there really seemed to be no potential harm to their day.
"Oh!" Maia had completely forgotten about the book! She'd have wondered how it slipped her mind, if not for the fact that it had been an exhausting couple of weeks. "Y-yeah," she nodded. Was that a hint of embarrassment in her tone? The tamer hadn't been timid about the subject before now! Maybe, it was nerves from actually discussing the subject with someone she was close to. But, wouldn't she be more comfortable about it with him? "It's just a hobby, though," the blonde tried to brush off. It wasn't like one could easily make a career out of art! "Most of my drawings lately are just Digimon," she admitted.

Noticing Maia's bashfulness, Isaac shot the girl a reassuring smile. Feeling shy about something you loved was a problem that plagued Isaac for a while. His flair for the dramatic, for example, was the last gasps of a desire to go on stage that never ended up panning out. Now it only remained in various desperate attempts to weasel his way out of harm in the Digital World, where he was too busy trying not to die to harbor any embarrassment. Maybe if he had someone backing him up and believing in him, he'd keep striving for success in day to day life too. That was the kind of person he wanted to be for Maia.
"Well, I bet it's a really fun hobby. Never had it in me to do much more than doodle, but it always seemed so cool. Think I could see your stuff sometime?" he asked, curiosity and encouragement blending in his voice. Maia always seemed so much more talented and capable than she thought she was. Like with Digivolution. And with her ability to cheer people up. Surely her art was no exception. If anything her bashfulness only made Isaac more excited to see it, because it meant she cared enough to feel self conscious about it. He'd trust someone humble and blushing far more than a smug know it all to understand true genius, even if the latter always acted more like they knew what they were doing.
She was right, though. It sounded like she had drawn a lot of monsters lately, and his book would really be more of the same. A bunch of really cool, diverse monsters, but the same sentiment easily described Digimon. He couldn't help but wonder which ones she had drawn so far, though. Was it mostly just various pictures of Kuu striking silly poses? Or did she draw some of the Digimon they encountered from memory? Still, Isaac found an idea brewing in his head. "Well, if you ever need a change of pace, I'd be happy to model for you. How's that sound?"
Isaac, what have you done?

Really, drawing was more relaxing than particularly fun. After all, she needed something to unwind from her stressful experiences! And to distract her from the obnoxious fox that was constantly with her. What better way to tune him out than to be busy staring at a piece of paper for a few hours?
But, Isaac actually wanted to see her drawings? "Uh, sure, I guess," the girl smiled, not wanting to cut down the request. Hey, if she was willing to show her drawings to people she hardly knew, her boyfriend wasn't going to be the exception! From what others had critiqued of her art, it was actually pretty good. So, why would she be hesitant to show anyone? Maybe, she feared actually being told that it wasn't good?
Hearing the offer from the boy, Maia pulled herself from her prior thoughts, only to imagine Isaac posing in ridiculous fashions. At first, the girl held a blank expression, but a small snicker escaped her lips, before she started to giggle. "Are you sure you won't regret that offer?" Maia teased, repressing laughter. "I can draw you, though," she nodded. "Sounds great." Ah, Isaac had no idea what he was signing up for! Then again, neither did Maia!

"Psh. You say that like I'd ever regret spending time with you," Isaac said, matching Maia's teasing tone. It was kind of amazing that this was the same blushing, bashful boy who could barely look her in the eye as she held his hand earlier. Now that he was in his comfort zone, it seemed like he was able to give as good as he got in the game of flirting. "You've already done a bunch to encourage and support me since I've met you. It's only fair that at some point I step up and help you do the same, right? Besides, if any artist's able to save this ugly mug, it's gotta be you." At this point, his tone was so light one could call it transparent. There was an immense relief shining in his eyes, as if for the first time in months he was able to just cut back and relax. He couldn't even begin to think of how he could thank Maia for this.
"But I get to keep my shirt on though, right?" he joked. Not that he assumed Maia'd ask for that kind of thing, but this was like the one chance he'd get to make that joke. He might as well jump on the opportunity when it finally arose, right?
The waiter arrived, setting down the large sampler platter. Isaac's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at how big it was. There had to have been at least ten types of sushi on this thing! There wasn't too much of each type, but Isaac still wasn't sure if he and Maia would be able to finish the plate off on their own. "Now this looks delicious! Like what you see?" he asked, hoping he'd be able to pounce onto a convenient recommendation from Maia. Even if she didn't have a preferred type, surely there had to be something she'd grab first. Unless she planned to just shove all ten types in her mouth at once in the ultimate act of noncommittal passivity, but at that point she'd heave to be trying just to appear neutral.

Even after the laughter had died, Maia found herself grinning. "Ugly mug, huh?" The blonde stuck her tongue out, briefly, before adding, "I doubt there's an artist alive that could make you look bad," she teased. Ooh, was that a compliment? It kind of sounded like one!
Hearing the next question, the girl shrugged, pretending to consider the subject for a moment. Well, then she'd see Isaac shirtless! But, what was there really to see from all of that, anyway? Maia wasn't interested in shirtless guys! "Well," she paused, looking around the room, before shaking her head, snapping from the act. "I suppose you can keep your shirt on. I don't think I've drawn anyone shirtless before, anyway." No, because that would be weird! Who just randomly wanted to draw people without their clothi-- No. She wasn't even going to go into that train of thought.
As the food arrived, Maia found herself surprised at the quantity. Sure, there had been quite a few things listed in the description for the item, but for some reason she hadn't expected there to be that much! Either way, she still nodded, debating on what she wanted to try first. But, before she would even reach toward any of the items, she made a small gesture at the sushi. "Try it first," she suggested, before adding a playful, "someone has to make sure it's not poisoned, right?" Oh, jeez! Don't jinx this one, Maia!

Isaac couldn't help but start blushing at Maia's compliment. Seemed she was able to spin even the most minor of jokes into compliments somehow. How did she always manage to pull that off? "Then I guess my good looks and your great art are gonna make one heck of a combo, huh?" he countered, sticking his tongue out in return. Of course, it seemed like that art wasn't going to involve him shirtless. Thank goodness. TV shows always had the same typical jokes of "life drawing" models, where they were some kind of naked person in an uncomfortable, stuffy classroom. Knowing that this would be much more relaxed and much less nude was visibly reassuring to Isaac. Even if he was a little disappointed that Maia didn't want to see his sweet abs, he was far too glad that said sweet abs wouldn't be plastered all over her art gallery.
The commitment was dodged when it came to picking which food to eat first. Curses! Now Isaac was going to have to make the first choice, wasn't he? He found himself looking over the plate hungrily, unsure which ones he'd even like. Did he even know which fish was even in which? He figured he'd try the one that looked like it was wrapped in many colors. It certainly smelled good, at least! He moved to daintily pick up a roll with his chopsticks, managing to land lifting a piece on his third try. For someone who seemed as outwardly brash as Isaac, this was pretty a pretty quick learning time! He pensively looked it over, then popped it in his mouth.
His eyes widened. Fish and avocado on the outside? It was kind of slippery at first, but once he started chewing and the tastes properly blended together, it came together as a great, cohesive package. As soon as he was done he promptly grabbed another of the same and popped it in his mouth, letting out a small hum of satisfaction as he finished chewing. "These ones are really good. You gotta try them," Isaac indicated, leaving the remaining two of that type aside for Maia to try. It seemed like there were four of each type, ending in a whopping 20 pieces for each of them. This was going to be a major feast!

Watching Isaac struggle with picking up the sushi, Maia tried not to smile too much. She didn't want to discourage him from trying. And, three tries really wasn't bad at all! The teen had watched plenty of tourists completely give up on trying to use chopsticks after failing too many times. Still, she remained silent until judgement had passed on the fishy item.
Oh, good! He didn't hate the food. A sigh escaped the girl's lips, feeling concern lifting off of her shoulders. After all, what if Isaac had tried the roll and decided it was disgusting? Sushi was one of those things that was very easy to dislike! "So, no poison, then?" Maia joked, using her chopsticks to take one of the suggested rolls. There was a small hesitation, as she glanced up at Isaac, before placing the sushi in her mouth. Oh, it was good. That was a relief.
After swallowing the piece, she looked over the platter, leaving the fourth of the flavor alone. In the case Isaac didn't like the other kinds, she didn't want to eat the only one he may have fancied! "It is good," she agreed, pondering what to try next.
But, the prior conversation didn't have to stop just because they were eating, right? "So, you know that I like drawing," the girl started, as she reached for a different piece of sushi. "Do you like to do anything? Any hobbies?" The only thing that Maia really knew was that the brother wasn't an avid gamer, as far as interests went. Well, that, and bashing people with monster books to defend Elliot. But that really didn't count.

"If it's poison, at least I can die happy," Isaac joked, casting a hungry look to the last of the four pieces. No. He needed self control mthat one had to be set aside for later, or for Maia. He couldn't just go greedily grabbing it before she even got her fair share of the plate. Of course, that meant that the roll was going to be right in the center of a politeness standoff between the two. At this rate, the poor thing would never get eaten! It seemed Maia had been thoughtful and conscious of Isaac's thoughts this whole day, saving food, throwing games, and being gentle with his lack of knowledge of the activities they were doing. While for the most part Isaac appreciated it dearly, he was starting to worry that his bumbling was majorly cutting into her enjoyment of the day. She didn't need to keep hindering herself for him!
Thankfully, the question of hobbies came up and briefly snapped Isaac out of his worries. He paused for a bit, trying to think of his favorites. "Usually I just kind of wander around and explore. I'm not too big into games, but they're fun sometimes. And I've really been itching to try a game of DnD at some point. I don't know if I'd be able to commit time to running a game, but man does it seem like a real one of a kind experience. And I wanted to try and get into drama, but," Isaac's voice trailed off as a small blush spread across his face, quite distinct from the usual "you're teasing me and I'm very okay with it" blush he had when around Maia. The answer was obvious without him even saying it: stage fright. He quickly tried to push past it, but the frustrated blush and downcast eyes were already perfectly visible, especially to someone as attentive as Maia. "What about you? I bet you've got loads of stuff you're good at."

So, Isaac wasn't even going to touch the remaining piece in that set? Still, Maia wasn't going to take it. Instead, she placed a different flavor of sushi into her mouth. The thought of the boy holding back what she wanted to do hadn't even crossed her mind. After all, who worried about that kind of stuff? Either way, she figured it would eventually get eaten, so the girl didn't really put much thought into it. Then again, maybe it wouldn't. Sushi was surprisingly filling, after all.
"I've never played DnD," the teen commented. While it didn't sound uninteresting, the game had never been something she had thought to seek out playing. Who would play with her, anyway? Really, she'd never actually thought about the game. It was one of those subjects that Maia could go her entire life without experiencing without a regret. Though, if someone wanted to teach her to play, she wouldn't reject that idea, either.
The interest in drama caught her attention. "You should try it," she suggested, making a small pointing gesture with her chopsticks. "I have a friend that loves it. It's pretty cool," that didn't really feel like a selling point, though. The way that Isaac acted a lot of the time, Maia could only imagine he would be great on a stage. "I think you'd be really good at it." As long as nobody put him in tights to play Peter Pan or something, at least! But, the blushing hadn't gone unnoticed either. "Is there a reason you haven't already gotten into it?" Was he teased for liking the subject, or something?
She could tell the subject was trying to be shifted to her, though, and wouldn't press too much. "Not really. Art, computer stuff," she shrugged, seeming uninterested in the topic. Though, 'computer stuff' seemed awfully vague for just referring to games, didn't it? Oh well. Maia was still more interested in the sudden shy behavior of Isaac, instead.

He was hoping that the conversation wouldn't go in this direction, but in retrospect it was his own damn fault for bringing acting up in the first place. She asked the issue of why, and the cloud of embarrassment hung all the more heavily over the boy. When you flub major on your first try due to stage nerves and get laughed off by your classmates, bouncing back can be really difficult. Isaac was thankful that it was just auditions and not the main show, but already he could imagine the disaster his stage fright could cause if he actually went for a major role. It didn't help that Isaac was already used to taunting and teasing having a constant presence in his life, especially thanks to watching over Elliot. Still, was that a story he really needed to share? Especially today, of all days. "It's nothing. It's stupid," he muttered, clearly hoping to move past this topic. However, what she said before her question was slowly starting to dawn on the boy.
She actually thought he'd be good at it? That came as a surprise to him. Maybe if Maia was there to see some of his desperate improvisations in the face of death, she would be singing a completely different tune. Was she referring to the time he haunted that Bakemon in the graveyard? Sure, it was fun, and the plan worked out to a surprising degree, but still! At the very least, Maia managed to slip through Isaac's raised guard. There was a hopeful shine in his eyes as she mentioned that he'd be good at taking the stage. "Wait, really? You think?" he asked, voice a little bit higher than usual in his surprise. He sure hoped that she would elaborate on that sentence, because now he was getting curious. What did she see when looking at him that he didn't?

Judging from the way the boy had been essentially sulking, Maia couldn't imagine that it was actually 'stupid' like he was saying. It wasn't like he had stage fright or anything! She couldn't imagine Isaac really freezing up at anything! Then again, when it came to Digimon, freezing up could end very badly. As a tamer, the girl knew this far too well. After all, she couldn't even begin to defend herself! That wasn't saying a Spirit User had it any easier, considering they were constantly up close and in danger.
It seemed with her encouragement, he had perked up, though! That was a good sign! "Yeah. I don't see why you don't agree," she commented, with a nod. There was no elaborating to be done, clearly! After all, he wouldn't even answer her question! The blonde clearly had no idea what was going on in Isaac's head. Oh well. What was to be expected of her? It wasn't like she was a mind reader!

Isaac couldn't help but smile from Maia's faith in him. Why should he keep withholding his reasons for his worry? It was clear that the girl believed in him. She wouldn't throw it back in his face and laugh at him, and even if she did she'd probably be able to find genuine humor in the situation instead of malice. As much as Isaac hated embarrassing himself, and hated dredging up old, bad memories, he felt comfortable enough with Maia to tell her the honest truth. "I had a lot more enthusiasm for it back in middle school, when I tried out for my first role. Nothing too fancy, but I got a nice, chewy monologue in the middle. I was really excited. So was Elliot, and Mom. Terrence-" Shit, would she even know who that was? There was a distinct tone of bile in his voice as he explained the next two words "-our father, thought it was a load of bull. But I really couldn't care less what he thought."
Breathe, Isaac. Don't go too deep. She didn't need to know everything just yet, especially not the years of hatred that had built up between those two. "So I practice really hard, chipping away at this monologue for days. So long as it's Elliot and I wearing silly costumes and practicing, I feel like I know it for the back of my hand. Then I get on stage, and I see all these people just waiting to hear, and I just crashed and burned. Couldn't even get through the first sentence," he confided. A furious blush started to spread over his face, but for Maia's sake he tried to shake it back. "Isn't that the best part? I can face all these crazy nightmare monsters, but a bunch of other kids my age? Nope, shut right down." Part of Isaac was furiously embarrassed by these admissions, but part of him felt like there was a massive weight off of his shoulders. With how often he tried to appear cool, calm, and collected, actually talking about his insecurities was like stabbing himself right in the gut.

The tamer listened in silence to the beginning of Isaac's story. The first question came when Terrence was mentioned, but was quickly removed when a correction was made. The tone used gave Maia a bit of confusion, but she decided that this was one topic that wasn't going to be brought up. What could someone's dad ever do to have the term 'father' spoken in such an unpleasant way? Surely, there had to be some seriously bad blood for Isaac to not even want to call him a dad.
With the blush spreading across Isaac's face, and the cat out of the bag, everything made sense. He actually had stage fright? That was hard to believe! Now, she felt kind of silly for even being embarrassed about her art. At least she didn't have a situation where she hadn't been able to pull through in front of her peers. "Hey," Maia smiled, softly. Stretching her leg under the table a little, the girl tried to tap the toe of her shoe against the side of his. Distraction! "That was before all of the nightmare monsters. Would that really be comforting, though? "Plus, just because you didn't succeed once, it doesn't mean you'll fail every other time, too. You just need to have a little faith in yourself." Maybe, he just needed some encouragement!

She had a really good point. He had changed quite a bit, both before and after coming to Shibuya. As scarring of an incident as this was, it was still so far in the past. He had grown a lot since then. How could he not? And if he could actually work up tje courage to tell Maia how he felt about her, surely he could work up the courage for otjer things as well. He smiled somewhat shakily at her. "You're right. Just these two weeks alone I've been getting way more confident. This place makes you grow fast or die trying. But." He paused hesitantly, trying to think about what je could possibly say next. Even with Maia's reassurances that his mistake was just one time, he felt like it had been so much more significant than that. Perhaps it had been because of the weeks of effort that he had put in, so much love and care lost in one mistake and a cascade of laughter.
"I took a huge chance and put my heart into that for weeks, even though I knew it was going to be on front of everyone. To be unable to even get a word out as everyone just kept laughing damn near killed me," he admitted. He couldn't show jis face around school for nearly two weeks without mockery after that little incident, and his hesitant tone of voice made that unspoken bit perfectly clear. It was obvious that it took a lot out of him to admit his folley, but also that he harbored no ill will toward Maia for it. The look in his eyes was almost a nostalgic sorrow, like he was almost relieved to get all of this off of his chest. Really, he just hoped that she wouldn't think any less of him for it! At the same time, Maia was a creative person to. The idea of others being as cruel to her made his stomach churn. "I really hope nothing like that's ever happened to you. It can be one of the most discouraging things in the world."

It was hard to think of something to say on the subject. Maia really couldn't imagine being essentially laughed off the stage. Then again, she couldn't really think of actually being on the stage to begin with! She was certainly no actress! "Sometimes, you have to take a chance," was the best consolation the blonde could think of. "It won't always work out," much like Isaac's story had been, "but, you can't go anywhere if you don't at least try."
The entire drama event seemed to have thoroughly traumatized Isaac. Though, she couldn't blame him. It seemed to throw her off when she heard his last couple of sentences. Was he worried about her? "Oh," she paused, thinking for a moment. "N-no. Actually, I've never had a problem like that." Well, that was good! It seemed the tamer wasn't specifying if she had just never had the courage to put herself in that position, or otherwise, but that didn't matter, right? But, it also made it seem harder for her to be able to accurately relate to the boy! Would he take her attempt to cheer him up less seriously, knowing she couldn't possibly know how he felt?
