Juro walked along the street as the sun began to set. It had been a long day at school, which had been actually somewhat difficult today for him since he had missed the past few days while in the Digital World. Clearly in a bad mood, he trudged along the road until his twin Digimon finally appeared out of the bushes.
"Hey, Juro!" they said together. Unfortunately, Juro was too distracted to notice them and walked right on past.
"Well, that was rude," Hopmon grunted.
"W-what's wrong, Juro?" Dorimon asked, with no guarantee of an answer. They slowly followed along behind Juro until he suddenly stopped. The twins looked ahead of their Tamer to see another boy just a little way down the street staring at them. He seemed to be older than Juro, but he was holding what looked to be a huge stuffed animal in his arms.
"You know, it would be a lot easier if you'd just tell your mother about me," Coronamon muttered to Marshal. "She seems like a pretty understanding lady."
"The less she knows, the better," Marshal told him. "After all, she still thinks I'm going to school regularly." He laughed as he two of them walked down the street, with Coronamon tucked up in his arms. Suddenly, Marshal stopped. In front of him stood a fellow student. Marshal immediately recognized him as Juro Suzuki, the top student in their class. A quick glance behind the boy revealed two little creatures walking behind him.
"Marshal," Coronamon whispered. "Those two creatures behind that boy appear to be Digimon."
Juro recognized the boy in the street. That was Marshal North, the new student that transferred from America. Of course, it was a pretty amazing feat that Juro was even able to know who he was; Marshal had a habit of skipping class more often than not. He watched as the stuffed animal Marshal was carrying jumped out of his arms and stood in front of him.
“So, a slacker like you managed to get a Digimon, too,” Juro scoffed. “No wonder you haven’t been showing up to class.” He motioned for Dorimon and Hopmon to get in front of him. Dorimon seemed to be a little wary of Marshal’s Digimon.
“This guy looks kinda strong,” Dorimon whimpered. “We should avoid combat if necessary.”
“I can take him!” Hopmon shouted. “Let me at him, Juro!”
“Who are you calling a slacker?” Marshal asked, getting a bit annoyed. “As I recall, you’ve been missing the past few days, yourself.” He gave the boy a disgusted look as the twin Digimon stepped in front of him.
“They seem to want a fight,” Coronamon observed, raising his fists in compliance. “What should we do, Marshal?”
Marshal took a second to calm down and realize what was about to happen. “We can’t just fight in the middle of the street,” he reasoned. “Granted, it would be a pretty quick fight, considering they’re only In-Training. Let’s just go home. I’m too tired for this.” Coronamon lowered his fists and followed Marshal as they walked past Juro and his Digimon.
Juro stood completely still, his eyes wide open as Marshal walked right past him. Did he really think that fighting him would be so easy? He turned around and scowled at Marshal as he walked away. “Don’t look down on me!” he shouted, but his cry fell on deaf ears. Marshal was already out of earshot.
“What are you, scared?” Hopmon goaded. “Come back and fight like a ‘Mon!”
“That’s enough!” Juro scolded his partner. “Hopmon, you need to learn when you’re in over your head.” Hopmon cringed and shrunk down. Dorimon walked over to comfort his brother.
So, they think they can just brush me off like I’m nothing? Juro thought to himself. I’ll show those two. Marshal North, from this day onward you will be my rival, and I will do everything I can to get stronger than you. I swear it on my pride as a Tamer!
