"I wanna go downstairs," a pipefox whined from his tamer's bed. The Kudamon scrambled around on the sheet, pouncing onto Maia's pillow, and proceeding to bite it. This was boring! Why did his tamer have to be so boring? Kuu needed excitement and adventure! He was a hero, darn it! This wasn't heroic!
Sitting in front of her computer, the blonde leaned back in her chair, adjusting the tinted glasses on her nose. "You can't. Mom's home," she tried to explain, but Kuu seemed to be having none of this. Instead, he scrambled to the door, and began jumping around in front of it. When this didn't catch Maia's attention, the alien huffed, hopping up to sit on the windowsill. Putting on her headphones, the girl didn't even notice the Digimon letting out a loud gasp, and scrambling at the window.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see a flash of purple and white. "Kuu, what are you...?" The pause only came when Maia realized that she was in the room alone, with the window open just enough for the small Rookie to apparently squirm out. "Oh no. No, no," she began hissing, pulling off the headphones, and hurrying to the window. Just in time to see the fox bolt across the street and lunge into another house's open window. Kai's house. This was bad in a completely different way than usual.
In a rush, she hurried out of her room, tripping down the stairs, only to come face to face with her mom. "Where are you going?" Oh, the dreaded mom-question. Maia tried to avoid these at all costs! Why did she have to be home today?
"Uh, I," the girl paused, trying to think of an excuse. Nothing. "I'm going to go say hi to," there was another pause, realizing that she had still been pretending not to know Kai only a few days ago, when her mom was harassing her. "The neighbor's son. Like you wanted? Do you think he's home? Oh, I don't want to miss him," she rambled, as she threw on her shoes.
Oh! She was actually listening to her mom's advice for once? The woman seemed impressed! And on top of that, she seemed incredibly excited to meet this boy! "I'm glad! Have fun!" Ugh. That was going to be annoying to talk about later. But, she couldn't really say she was going somewhere else! What if her mom saw her walk across the street?
There was a nod, along with a string of, "yeah, thanks, see you later!" Seconds later, she was hurrying across the street. This felt stupid. What was she supposed to say? 'Hey, my Digimon broke into your house, please tell me that's not your parent's room?' This was awful! Why were Digimon so terrible? No, why was Kuu so terrible? This was all his fault, after all!
Knocking on the door, the teen tried to catch her breath, only realizing that she was still wearing her computer glasses afterward. Oops. Well, that was going to look stupid. But, this was an emergency! Wait. What happened if Kai's parents answered the door? What if he wasn't home? How was she supposed to get her Digimon back without causing problems for him?

It was a normal, boring day. Kai liked normal, boring days. Kai sat at his desk, working on his studies- Much as he had on the day he met Kuro and Shiro. But hey, it wasn't like that meant everything. Kai studied at his desk a lot! These days, it just included... A lot more ignoring Shiro's constant desire for things, and explaining to his mother that no, he was not talking to anyone. Seriously. No, he really was alone up here. Not even on the phone, mom. Okay mom. Yes, I'll do the dishes once I finish my homework. Stuff like that.
But Shiro was no longer interested in food, or playing. "Kuu!" the white Digimon called, in excitement. Kai, at first, didn't get it. Then he did. What was Maia's partner doing here!? Was Maia here...? He thought he would have heard her if she was! And how had she gotten past his parents.... No wait, it was just Kuu. "Err... Kuu? What are you doing here?" Kai asked, not exactly expecting an answer. "Who cares! Let's play!" Shiro announced, jumping up excitedly.
"Try not to break anything." Kuro said, mirroring Kai's thoughts. He was far too confused as to what was going on to say anything out loud, though.
Downstairs, Mrs. Haimura was keeping herself busy, cleaning the house. She swore, things just fell down around here! It was unlike Kai to be so clumsy, and in fact... Reminded her of the days of her youth. Was that son of hers keeping a cat? Unlikely. She would have heard it by now if he was. Besides, even if he was- Kai was a responsible boy. He wouldn't take on such a burden unless he was well prepared. It was so refreshing, having such an honest boy. When Renji was his age... Well, he was a handful, that one! Fortunately, he seemed to have settled down. Some nice government job. Something to be quite proud of!
Her prideful thoughts regarding her sons were interrupted suddenly by a knock on the door. "I wonder who that is?" the lady mused around, setting aside the stack of books she held and walking over to open the door. If she was surprised to find a young woman standing before her, she showed no sign of it. "Why hello, dear. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Shiro!" Kuu chirped back, hearing his name as he scrambled through the window. Oh! Lucky! This was Kai's room. The little Digimon lifted himself to sit on his cartridge, stretching and leaning to look around the room. Bah. This looked just as boring as Maia's room, if not more! There was nothing different that he could try to eat! Where were Kai's socks?
The little fox looked to Shiro, opening his mouth to ramble, "Maia's boring. You have a window! Oh! Play?" Having a window was an awful reason to break into someone's house! Plus, Maia had one too! How else did he escape her room and get into this one? Huh. Thinking about it, it was kind of funny that their windows were facing each other well enough that the fox could see it was open. Oooh! That could lead to fun plans later on! Fun was such a questionable term when it came to the rookie's thoughts! Not that he was really having any aside from 'play' at this point! "I want to play!" Why was Kuro so worried about breaking things? That wasn't fun! Maybe people needed to have less fragile stuff!
When the door opened, Maia was slightly distressed to see a woman answer the door. Why couldn't this be easy? The blonde paused at the question, trying to remember Kai's last name. It had been a while since they'd met, after all! ...This was probably his mom, right? Hopefully he didn't have a much, much older sister. Otherwise, this could be embarrassing! Okay, no, screw it. This was already embarrassing. What was she supposed to say? Okay! She had this! Sort of.
"Oh, hello, Mrs. Haimura." Wait, was she married? To be honest, Maia had no idea about anything regarding Kai's family or life! This was stressful. "I-I was wondering if Kai was home?" Please be home, Kai. At least make one part of this day a little easier on the poor girl!

"Yes! Play!" Shiro ran around excitedly. Well... At least they were trapped in Kai's room, for now. "Keep it down, you two, please!" He begged. "My mom's downstairs, if she hears you..." He trailed off, leaving it at that. Shiro clearly didn't care. "Ah, let her hear us! This room's too cramped anyways! C'mon, Kuu! Let's play!" Blatantly not offering anything to play. Shiro didn't roll that way. Play was play, no matter what you played!
Kai and Kuro clearly had no say in the matter.
Oh, a friend of Kai? Do come in, dear. What is your name? Would you like some tea? What brings you here?" After this barrage of questions, she shouted upstairs, "Kai! Your friend is here!" Well, at least that answered Maia's question.
From above, a voice shouted back, "I'll be right down!" It was unmistakably Kai. And shortly, the sound of a door opening and quickly closing could be heard above, followed by some footsteps. "Maia. What a surprise to see you." Kai said, pretending to have been surprised. It was not enough to convince anyone... Except maybe Shiro. His mother chuckled, and made her own assumptions on the matter.
"Why.... err... don't you come on upstairs?" Kai said, blatantly awkwardly. Hopefully with her help, Kuu and Shiro could be kept under control. From his mother, "Your door stays open at all times, you hear me, young man!? And do properly introduce me to this nice young lady, when you're done. But no funny business!" she scolded, much to Kai's embarassment.

Kuu seemed to understand Kai's request of quiet a little better than Shiro, ears twitching toward the tamer to indicate that he had heard it. The little fox bounded onto Kai's bed, trying to think of something to do. Instead, he just repeated a slightly more quiet, "play!" At least he was kind of respecting the boy's wishes! Probably because he had to follow that rule in his own house, too. "Kuro! Help us think of play things!" Of course, the rookie knew that Kuro would do no such thing. Still! It was worth a shot! He needed to try to drag the black Digimon into his games. Otherwise, breaking things would probably be first on the list of things to do!
"My name's Maia," the girl introduced, stepping inside the house. "Oh, no tea, thank you," she shook her head. Ah! So many questions! What was with moms and questions? "I-uh. I live across the street," she murmured, trying to think of why she was even visiting. "Just figured... Maybe Kai wanted to do something today." People liked to just hang out for no reason, right? Oh, thank goodness. Kai was actually here! She thought she was just going to be stuck here with his mom for who-knows-how-long!
Maia took a deep breath, seeing the boy. "Yes. Surprise," she repeated, trying to establish how horrible Kai's acting was. There was no way his mom was going to buy that this was a surprise. "I hope it's alright that I stopped by," she added, sounding far more sincere. She really was worried about the troubles her Digimon was likely causing the boy. On the bright side, his mom seemed none-the-wiser! "Yeah, sure," she nodded, trying to not become embarrassed by the boy's mom. Oh, jeez. She sounded as bad as Maia's mom, if not worse! A blush streaked her face, mouthing 'sorry' to her neighbor. Regardless, she was ready to follow the boy upstairs.

Kuro lazily opened one eye to look at Kuu. "How about the quiet game. Whoever makes the least sound, wins." SHe closed her eye again. Yeesh, who put a bee in her bonnet! Shiro didn't care, though. "Kuro's sleeping, silly! Let's leave her and go play!" Hmm, but this room was just too small, to play in... The window, though! The window was still open!
"Oh, it's no trouble at all, dear. Just take care of my son! I'm sure he's quite the bother." Kai's mother said, not caring about her son's pride or state of embarrassment. Kai quickly rushed back upstairs, assuming Maia would follow. Of course his mother would get the wrong idea! But they couldn't just tell her about Digimon!
As he opened the door to his room- He realized another, major problem. Well, fortunately, he hadn't left anything incriminating out. Incriminating to Maia! There were three Digimon in there! What would his mother think when she inevitably came to check on them! Worse, he had to keep the door closed to keep Shiro from running rampant in the house- And he had just been strictly told to leave it open!
He was screwed, plain and simple. He opened the door. Shiro immediately looked away from the window, and at where the door was opening. He gauged his chances. He could go outside a lot... But how often did he have a chance to play in the house!?

"You're no fun," Kuu huffed, looking at the boring sister. Who wanted to sleep instead of play? That was crazy! Instead, the fox bounced toward Shiro, also eyeing the window. They could sneak out! But, then both their tamers might be mad! At least Maia kind of knew where Kuu was! Even if it wasn't with her permission! Kai's house seemed plenty safe to visit!
Take care of her son? Wait, what did she think...? Actually, no, never mind. This was a way better assumption than the truth. Just stick with it for now. "O-oh, no, he's great," she mumbled, rapidly, before hurrying after the boy. Awkward! After all, Kai was just the neighbor guy that still may have had something to do with her entire Digimon problem! Sure, she'd come to terms that it wasn't really how that worked, but it made for a good enough excuse.
Once upstairs, she added another, "I'm really sorry." How was she supposed to expect Kuu to squeeze through that gap in her window? He hadn't done that before! This had better not be the start of some trend! With the door to the room open, she found Kuu staring at the window, like Shiro had been. Except, with the new opening, focuses were changing.
First, Kuu looked at his tamer, then past her. Was he thinking what Shiro was thinking? Oh no. Bad ideas were written all over the rookie's face! "Play?" That word didn't sound promising, either! Clearly, it was directed at the white Digimon that he was intending to be obnoxious with. But, what exactly did 'play' entail here?

"Play." Shiro agreed. And then he leapt, taking off running straight past the two unfortunate humans. "Last one to the stairs is a rotten Digitama!" Shiro cried. Apparently it was a race! Kuro just curled up in a tighter ball, and tried to ignore the walking distasters that were Kuu and Shiro. Kai just hoped his mother couldn't hear this.
"N-no! Stay! Shiro, get ba- Oh, come on." Kai through up his hands in defeat, as Shiro managed to evade his attempts to capture the white Digimon. It wasn't the first time Shiro had gotten loose... But never when Kai's parents were home! This was a disaster! "We'd better catch them before they're seen," Kai sighed. What a disaster!
Meanwhile, Shiro was rapidly approaching the stairs! Did Kuu have what it took to beat the white Digimon's head start!?

Yay!" And, with that, they were off. Maia didn't stand a chance at stopping the squirming fox from bolting past her. It was hard to tell if he'd be able to break Shiro's lead, though. Only having two legs, one would think it would slow down the rookie, but he was catching up pretty fast! Who knew if the fox could outrun his friend, though!
At least it seemed that Maia wasn't the only one that had a hard time keeping her Digimon trapped in her room, too. Unfortunately, that spelled double trouble in Kai's house! She wanted to keep apologizing, but it wasn't going to help the situation. But, wouldn't his mom wonder why they were running around a bunch? Surely, the sound of digi-feet wouldn't go unnoticed!
Why couldn't they all want to be relaxed like Kuro? She wasn't causing problems! And if Kai and Maia were stomping around trying to catch the extra feet, it would only be worse! "Do you have a plan? They're probably going to run more if we chase them."

Kai groaned. "I don't have a clue!" Kai admitted. This was the worst! If it was just Shiro... Maybe he could pull something off. But Shiro and Kuu!? The most they could do would be to pull damage control! And... Somehow, do it without his mother knowing! At least there hadn't been any loud crashes, so far. But knowing those two.. It was only a matter of time before something broke!
"Usually, I can just wait until he gets hungry... But usually, mom's not home! Auugh!" Kai was quite clearly getting worked up over this. He really needed to calm down! "Please tell me you have something." As wimpy as it was to beg Maia for help.... Kai was no good at coming up with ideas in this sort of situation!
Meanwhile, outside of the room, Shiro and Kuu reached the stairs at the same time. Shiro laughed. "You're fast!" Shiro complimented Kuu, before bounding down the stairs four at a time. As always, he didn't really have that much of a goal! Playing was playing, and anything was playing if it was fun! "Follow me!" he told the other Rookie.
In the kitchen, Mrs. Haimura wondered what those kids were up to out there.

This wasn't good. Maia had no idea how to contain two Digimon! She had a hard enough time with one! "All I ever do is lure him back with food! My dad has to help me keep him from Mom," she fretted, crossing her arms tightly to her body. This was why she had to carry things like cookies around all the time! But, the two troublemakers weren't just going to hold still for them! "Come on," she sighed, trying to at least catch Kuu's attention without being too loud.
Sure, the fox could hear his tamer. His ears twitched, but he was too focused on Shiro! And that he got a compliment for catching up! Maybe, the fox was shaping up to be cool like his friend! "'Kay!" The rookie chirped, bouncing down the stairs after the cat monster.
This was awful! Maia's plan hadn't extended any further than knocking on the door! How was she supposed to come up with something on the spot like this? "I'm bad at this," she admitted, only seeming more flustered by Kai's distress. They didn't make a good team, did they?

"Your... dad knows about Kuu?" Kai asked. "Sorry, not the time," he added quickly. He could ask about stuff like that later! Right now, he had a pair of rogue Digimon to corral! But how? He didn't have a clue! Neither did Maia! And they couldn't exactly shout about food while his mother was here! "I suppose we had better get down there, before they break something." No crashes... Yet. There was still time, though. There was always time.
He took off towards the stairs, trying not to move so fast that his mother could hear his footsteps. He didn't want to have to explain why he was running in the house. He didn't want to explain to his mother, period. Oh, this wasn't going to end well. He needed, like, screens on his windows or something.
Downstairs, Shiro kinda bounced around the house. Sofa, chair, potted plant. All fell before the white whirlwind! Well, not fell, fortunately for Kai. "Catch me if you can!" he called, somehow letting Kuu hear him but not Mrs. Haimura. How long that would last, of course, was heavily debatable. Kai and Maia better think of something fast!

Maia had forgotten that she hadn't told Kai about her Digimon meeting her dad, yet. Oops. They really didn't talk enough for living across the street from each other! "I'd say it's a long story, but," she shrugged. But, it wasn't actually a long story, at all! While this certainly made it convenient to explain, she agreed that this was a bad time for it! They really needed to think of a plan, but she couldn't deny that the best plan was to at least be on the same floor as the Digimon! "O-oh, yeah," she agreed, before moving toward the stairs.
This wasn't looking like there would be a promising turnout. Reaching the stairs, the tamer glanced at her neighbor. What were they going to tell his mom if she saw all of this? Hopefully, she wouldn't witness the strange monsters in her house! There wasn't time to think, though. Because of this, Maia didn't even consider it potentially odd to reach out, trying to gently grab Kai's wrist, and pull him at a faster pace down the stairs without tripping him. Then, there was a realization. "Hey, you got your cast off." Well, that took her long enough to notice! Wait... did that mean the teen would have tried to pull his arm even if it was broken?! She needed to be more observant!
Hopping after Shiro, the little fox had mastered the art of not-knocking-everything-over. This was lucky for Kai. If only he actually implemented it at Maia's house, like he was supposed to! At least this was a start. "Totally can!" Kuu chimed, trying to catch up with the white monster. Hopping onto the back of a chair, the rookie attempted to get the jump on his friend. Literally!

Kai was more than a little surprised when Maia grabbed his wrist. Surprised enough to let out a "Gah!" as he nearly tripped and fell down the stairs.Keyword, nearly. He managed to save himself from another likely arm break by catching himself on the banister... But it was close! Sure, they were in a hurry... But that didn't mean they had to ignore basic safety!
After taking a moment to steady himself, he found the time to reply, "Yeah, about a week ago. If you don't mind... I'd rather not put it in one again so soon." He tried to make a joke out of it with a chuckle... But it wasn't really one. Stairway safety was no joke!
Somehow making it to the bottom of the stairs in one piece... Kai almost immediately had to dive to catch a wobbling chair, nearly knocked over when the Kudamon departed from it. He breathed a sigh. Safe. They needed to avoid loud noises, at all costs! Or so his brain, slightly silly from the idea of Digimon needing to be secret that had been drilled into him, said.
Meanwhile, Kuu had easily landed his hop on Shiro- For better or for worse! The ensuing friendly scuffle ended when Shiro leveraged his sheer bulk to come out on top of the Kudamon- And with a cheerful, "Nyeheheh, nice try!" Shiro scampered off into the next room. Another room full of stuff that could break. Joy.
In the kitchen, Kai's mother called out, "Kai? Maia? Was that you? What are you two up to out there?" For his part, Kai wasn't sure what to respond with- Or whether to respond at all! They needed to catch Shiro before the two rambunctious Digimon made it to the kitchen!

So much for not tripping him! It seemed Kai wasn't very graceful! Maia let out a small squeak, moving out of the way to make sure the teen could catch himself without further issue. Still, the girl found herself blushing, mumbling yet another, "s-sorry!" Now, she felt bad! Sure, it didn't seem Kai was mad about it, but still! The blonde had to be more careful about these things. She couldn't just assume that someone had decent reflexes. Or the ability to run down some stairs.
Though, it seemed that they were in for some sort of work out, considering the Digimon seemed to care nothing about being inconspicuous. Kuu was busy giggling from his success-pounce. It was inevitable that he would lose the scuffle, but it was still fun! After all, they were playing! He had plenty of chances to win, yet! Even though this wasn't something that the Kudamon could really win at. Oh well! Everyone was a winner when it came to playing! The fox quickly scrambled after his playmate, curious what else they could find to do now. How exciting! The rookie needed to visit Kai's house more often! This was way more fun than at Maia's!
Hearing the voice of the boy's mother, Maia bit her lip. Amber eyes went wide, looking to Kai to see if he was going to respond to her. How did he ever manage to hide two digimon? There was a small sigh, before responding to the call. If she didn't what if Kai's mom came to check on them? "Y-yes. Kai's just showing me around. You have a lovely house!" This was so awkward! How was she ever going to make this up to her neighbor?
