“What is that?” A green-furred rookie digimon asked, referring to a round almost egg-like object his sister found fit to take with them. He was exasperated, today hadn’t been going very well and now here she was dragging along some random thing she found laying around someplace.
“What? You don’t like it? You never like anything cool” The red-furred rookie cocked her head to the side, mocking her brother with a smile.
“Sparmon, be serious for a moment, just tell me. What is that thing you’re carrying around with you?” Coonaimon was getting a annoyed, why did his sister always have to do these things just to upset him? Why couldn’t she just answer the question and not poke fun at him.
“Alright, fine. It’s a mirror!”
“No it’s not. It might be reflective but it doesn’t look like something someone would use as an actual mirror.” Did she not know what it was? Why’d she go grab the thing then! Did she want a mirror? They could go out and find a normal looking mirror someplace if she wanted one that badly. “Where did you get it anyway?”
“I found it.” Sparmon replied cheekily.
“Where?” He really wasn’t amused. This was getting old.
“Somewhere” Her voice chiming in a sing-song way.
Dramatically heaving a sigh, Coonaimon let the subject drop. She was just doing this to annoy him, he shouldn’t let it. “Let’s just go.”
Sparmon giggled at her brother. He was fun to mess with sometimes, and honestly she was bored. They’d been walking forever! As much as she enjoyed exploring, this place wasn’t anymore fun than the last time they were here. It was the same old things in the same old places, and to make it worse it seemed like they were walking in circles! The only thing of interest here was well- this thing.
It reminded her of the digitamas back in the village of beginnings, but it could be an egg, it wasn’t warm and it didn’t have the right shape. It didn’t have much weight to it either, almost like it was just a shell. Maybe it was an armor digi-egg? Then she could learn how to armor digivolve! That’d be so awesome! But then, this egg didn’t have any markings. Weren’t they supposed to have meanings and symbols? What was this one supposed to be?
Then the object began to shake.
“Coonaimon?” She called out. Was the egg alive? Was it hatching? Maybe it would be another digimon? She should probably escort it back to the village to be cared for...
Her brother just ignored her. How rude… Then again he was getting pretty upset with her. Maybe she should have laid off after a while. She needed his help!
“Coonaimon! Come on, please come here for a minute?”
The other rookie just continued walking. Then a crack appeared in the egg’s surface. The red-furred rookie let out a yelp in surprise and dropped the egg causing it to break further. Oh no, she didn’t mean to do that, what if now it was hurt?
“Coonaimon! Wait!” Sparmon was becoming frantic with panic and her brother wasn’t helping. Finally though, he stopped and turned around.
“What is it now Sparmon?”
“Look!”
“You broke it? If it was a mirror that’s seven years bad luck” He jeered, but still he walked closer to her. She did seem panicked, he should probably at least see what the fuss was about.
Out of the object came two small shapes. One was colored like fire while the other a mint green. Curious, Sparmon leaned down for a better look. They were two mini versions of her brother and herself! Her own mini was only about half her own size, while her brothers was just a tad bigger. They were so cute!
“Aw! Coonaimon, can we keep them? Please?” She pleaded, her brother frowned. That’s weird… Two tiny fresh level digimon who looked exactly like two rookies? And they just happened to find them way out here? Watching the two newly hatched digimon, Coonaimon’s eyes widened as he recognized their stances.
“Sparmon, move!”
“Huh?” Sparmon turned to look at her brother confused. He ran over to her aid, but she was quickly pounced upon by her mini counterpart. MiniCoonaimon launched an attack as well, using his frost breath he froze the area just around Sparmon’s feet. The frost traveled up her legs, and while the ice was thin, it froze her in place. The normal sized Sparmon let out a scream as the smaller versions claws tore into her and she couldn’t get out of the way.
Coonaimon got there and pulled MiniSparmon off of his sister, he tried to toss the offender aside, but the tiny digimon weighed more than expected. In fact it actually weighed about as much as the normal Sparmon. The unexpected weight caused Coonaimon to topple over, but at least he got the thing off of his sister.
The MiniCoonaimon tackled the larger, trying to pin him to the ground. But Coonaimon used his own technique Adaptive stance to increase his skills. He deflected the smaller versions attack, but how long could he keep this up? He had to face not only himself, but his sister as well. It seemed this was a losing battle.
Sparmon meanwhile headbutted the ice around her feet, it shouldn’t be too hard to break. This ice was the same kind her brother often used, but she’d never been on the receiving end of his attack before. Thankfully she could pull herself free not too long after. Looking over she saw Coonaimon fighting the two small versions on his own, but he wasn’t doing too well… They were a lot stronger than he was alone. Well, she’ll just have to change that!
Jumping into the fray, she tackled her own double knocking the mini into the other.
“You two caught me off guard before! That won’t happen again! You ready Coonaimon?”
“Of course, let’s hurry and beat these guys so we can leave.” Sparmon’s determination was infectious, just moment before Coonaimon was fearing for his life but now that the two were together, they may just stand a chance.
However as the fight continued, the more it seemed as if they were fighting a mirror. Every pounce, tackle, hit… Every move they would make was met with an exact copy. There wasn’t any tactic they had which worked against the doppelgangers, it seemed the battle just would continue on in this fashion until each collapsed in exhaustion. Coonaimon worried it would be him first as he had to struggle with them alone even if that had only lasted a couple of minutes. He tried his hardest to think of a strategy, not to waste anymore energy. But nothing was working.
“Sparmon we need to change strategies again.” Both Coonaimons said at once.
“This is getting weird…” Sparmon was glad her double wasn’t duplicating her words.
Getting weird? Coonaimon refrained from blurting out “As if it wasn’t already!”. He needed to save energy, not waste it arguing.
“We need to-” They stopped and glared at one another. “-switch opponents”
“That’s it! Run!” Coonaimon shouted, following his own advice and running in the opposite direction. His double seemed to be thinking the same, as it too ran. So much for this battle. The two Sparmon’s looked at one another. Should they continue fighting? Neither of them moved and instead just looked confused at one another.
“You know, this was fun. Though I would have preferred if you hadn’t attacked me like that. We could have been good friends,” Sparmon said after a moment.
“Yeah…” The mini said boredly. “I should go get my brother now. Let’s do this again sometime, then we’ll show you two who is stronger.”
Sparmon watched the mini leave. Once the other her was out of view she scoffed loudly. Yeah! As if those two could possibly win in a fair fight! But she was really tired now, she had scrapes and bruises from where she was hit and her legs felt about ready to give up. But still, she should probably go and try to find her brother but… No way! She was her and no one else was like her, she’d go do her own thing and not go look for Coonaimon. She huffed proudly and continued down a different path. But… Oh fine, she’ll go. Walking back, she went to go find her brother. Stupid mirror egg, copying her, making it look like she was copying them.
Somewhere out there, there are two miniature versions of Sparmon and Coonaimon wandering the world. Beware travelers, for someday you might have an encounter. Let’s just hope that if or when you do, you are ready for it. Also, don’t pick up random shiny things you find laying around.
Posts please? I'm not sure if I did this right...
