The words that every teenager dreaded finally planted themselves in Marshal’s ears. “Welcome to summer school.” He figured this would happen. Ever since he had met Coronamon, he had more drive to attend class and do other productive things, but that didn’t save him from the crippling effect his poor attendance had had on him at the beginning of the school year.
Oh well, he thought to himself. This can’t be helped, I suppose. At least it’s only three weeks. Then Coronamon and I have all the time in the world to go around in the Digital World. The mention of his partner in his thoughts made Marshal wonder how the Rookie Digimon was faring at home by himself.
At this point, though, he had let the beans spill to his parents about Digimon in general, so they weren’t bothered by it. If anything, it had made them understand Marshal’s sudden change in mood and behavior, and they were somewhat grateful, even though they were still a bit cautious around the creature that could literally start their house on fire. They still weren’t very impressed with the fact that Marshal was attending summer school, but were happy to see that he was at least making friends.

“Coronamon, I’m going to the grocery store!” Marshal’s mom shouted from the front door up to Marshal’s room. “Do you need anything?” The poor little guy had been cooped up in Marshal’s room all day, still adamant about not bothering her or her husband while Marshal was away. Maybe he thought that they were afraid of him?
“I’m quite alright, Ms. North!” Coronamon replied. “Thank you for thinking of me, though!” Marshal’s mom was taken aback. Coronamon, by appearance, looked to be a bit of a wild child, but in actuality, she had never met anyone as polite and composed as the little creature.
“I’ve told you before, you can call me Katrina!” she teased, lightly chuckling. “I’ll be back shortly. Don’t burn the house down while I’m gone!” With that, she left the house, off to get groceries. Coronamon secretly wished he could go with her, but Marshal carrying around a giant stuffed animal was already strange enough.
“This is going to be a long three weeks,” he sighed as he flopped back onto Marshal’s bed and fell asleep. Lately, he was feeling pretty lazy. He knew that his activity would be limited while Marshal was doing summer school, but he didn’t know it would be this bad. And to think that this would start all up again in the fall if Marshal actually started going to class! Coronamon was starting to lose his edge.

Before Marshal and Coronamon knew it, two and a half weeks had passed since summer school had started. Since then, Marshal had been ridiculously buried in his studies, and as such the two of them didn’t get to do much together. Coronamon, on the other hand, had taken to sleeping most of the day, only waking up long enough to eat and have the occasional pleasant conversation with Katrina. The two of them had really bonded over their time together, as well as their relationship with Marshal.
“I never thought I’d be the one lounging around while you were doing something important,” Coronamon sighed as he laid on the bed in Marshal’s room. Marshal, of course, was burning the candle at both ends studying for his exams. It was not unusual for Marshal to be up late, but this was starting to get ridiculous.
“You and me both, buddy,” he replied quickly, not really paying attention. Realizing what was going on, he turned his attention away from his book and over to his poor Digimon. “Listen, I know this hasn’t really been fun for you, but I promise as soon as I’m done with my last exam, we’re going on a trip to the Digital World.”
“Good!” Coronamon shouted. “It feels like it’s been ages since we’ve been there.” It definitely had. Marshal thought back to their last trip there, which had been nearly two months prior. The two of them were both starting to get a bit stir-crazy. Not only that, but Marshal hadn’t seen any of his friends from the Digital World in that time, either. It was pretty hard to track down people in the Digital World, let alone trying to find them in the real world. He had thought about getting in touch with Maia so Coronamon could go at least play with Kuu while he was at school, but decided against it. Maia probably had her own problems to deal with, after all!
“We both could certainly use a vacation,” Marshal muttered. “Let’s hope these exams go well!” He immediately stuffed his nose back into his studying until he literally passed out at his desk. Coronamon smiled and turned off the light before heading to bed himself.

Marshal woke with a start the next morning and looked at his clock. 7:45 AM. He was going to absolutely be late. “Oh, no!” he shouted, startling Coronamon, who fell off the bed and stammered back onto his feet, equal parts drowsy and distressed. “I’m going to be late! On exam day!”
Coronamon shook himself awake and immediately set his thoughts into motion. He had to do something to help his Tamer out, otherwise he’d have to sit at home for another three weeks! Inspiration came to him while Marshal was scrambling to get dressed. “I’ll give you a ride!” he suggested. “We’ll get to your school really quickly, and I’ll just hide on the roof while you take your exams.”
“What would I do without you, Coronamon?” Marshal asked. He finished getting ready and the two of them bolted down the stairs as quickly and quietly as possible to avoid waking up his mother, who had the day off. The two of them got outside, and made sure the coast was clear before doing anything. Marshal immediately pulled out his Digivice. “Let’s do this quickly, Coronamon!”
“Coronamon Digivolve to…Firamon!” The bright light of Digivolution quickly faded, revealing Coronamon’s Champion form. It had been a while since he had Digivolved, so it felt a little strange, but the feeling didn’t last very long. Marshal bolted up onto Firamon’s back and the two of them took off immediately. They flew high to avoid detection and raced like madmen to the school, where Firamon made a dive-bomb landing onto the roof and let Marshal off. Marshal thanked his Digimon as he ran into the school, just in time to take his exams. Firamon smiled as he reverted back to his Rookie form. It was nice to be appreciated again.
