Marshal passed his summer school exams with flying colors, which meant he was finally done. He and Coronamon were so excited that they left that evening for their weekend trip to the Digital World. Marshal’s mother had been notified a few days prior, so she was already prepared for them with bags full of food and other essentials as soon as Marshal had returned home.
“Have fun on your trip, boys!” She said to them with a smile. “Don’t get into any trouble while you’re out!” The two of them shared a bit of a chuckle at that. Katrina obviously had no idea just how dangerous the Digital World could really be. Besides, the two of them had decided that it was high time to kick it into gear and get some serious training in. Their progress had stagnated recently.
“We won’t, Mom!” Marshal lied as the two of them headed out the door. “Thanks! Love you!” Coronamon nodded and gave Katrina an awkward smile and a wave as they rushed to the train station. On the way, the two of them decided to go over their plan for the weekend.
“Alright, so we’re going to start off by going down to Whitewater City and hanging out there, then we’ll fly over to Server Woods and camp out there for the night,” Marshal listed as he held his Digimon in his arms like a stuffed animal. “Tomorrow, we’ll start training up again at the Training Grounds to the east. What do you think?”
Coronamon grinned up at him, careful not to say anything and arouse suspicion. Even though his mother knew about Digimon, that didn’t mean the rest of the world needed to. The two of them quickly made their way to the train station and hopped on the train to the Digital World.

After a short flight to the south, Marshal and Coronamon had made it to Whitewater City. The town was busy as ever, since it was summertime. Tamers and Digimon alike flocked to this place every year to enjoy their time off school. As the two of them made their way to the beach, they were stopped by a strange, humanoid Digimon with butterfly wings. A quick glance at the D-Terminal revealed this to be Kazemon, one of the ancient spirits of wind.
“Heya!” she said to Marshal, waving. “You’re awful cute, honey.” Marshal wondered if she was actually talking to him. Could she even see through that metal visor? True, Marshal had somewhat cleaned himself up a little bit for summer school, but he still looked almost as dumpy as he usually did. Marshal decided to ignore her and move on, which did nothing but end up angering Kazemon. “Hey! It’s rude to ignore people that are complimenting you!”
“She’s got a point,” Coronamon grunted.
“S-sorry,” Marshal stammered. “It’s just that I’m not used to that kind of thing…” He really wasn’t. Even back in America, people that he didn’t know tended to ignore him. Not that there was anything wrong with that! It’s not like Marshal was ever that hungry for attention back in those days. Still though, the way that Kazemon had come onto him was a bit…odd.
“That’s ok!” Kazemon smiled. “I actually just wanted to give you this flyer for Caritas, the club here in Whitewater. They’re having their annual ‘Battle on the Dance Floor’ tonight, and we’re looking for good Tamer and Digimon pairs to come out and participate.”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Marshal laughed. “We’ve been away for a while, so we wouldn’t really be prepared for something like this-” he was suddenly stopped by a swift elbow to the leg from his partner, who grabbed him by the pant leg and pulled him down for a conversation.
“This could be the perfect training for us!” Coronamon whispered sharply. “We have all day to hang out at the beach and train. Let’s just do this!” Marshal wondered if this was really an excuse to train, or maybe an excuse to see Kazemon again. He sighed and looked back up at Kazemon.
“We’ll be there,” he agreed. The look on Kazemon’s face went from one of confusion to pure delight almost instantly. She jumped up and down excitedly, hanging in the air longer than anticipated due to her control over the wind. She grabbed Marshal and held him in a hug.
“Thank you so much! We’ll see you boys there tonight at sundown. Don’t be late, now!” With that, she fluttered off happily in the direction of the club, a cool breeze following in her wake. Marshal just stood there, kind of dumbfounded. He turned to Coronamon.
“So, I guess we should get started, huh?” he asked, still blushing. Coronamon snickered and nodded as the two of them headed to the beach to start training. It was a pretty grueling process for both of them, seeing as they had been out of practice for nearly two months, but it was pretty easy to get back into the swing of things once they got used to it. Finally, they decided that they were ready for the fight.

As Marshal and Coronamon entered the club, they were greeted by the sight of tons of Tamers and Digimon out and about on the dance floor. Across the room was Kazemon, who immediately recognized the pair and fluttered over to them. “Hey, boys! Are you ready for the fight tonight?”
“As ready as we’ll ever be, I guess,” Marshal muttered. Hearing that, Kazemon immediately picked them up and put them in the corner marked, “Rookie Division.” It seemed she had no idea that Coronamon was able to Digivolve. That was okay with Coronamon, anyway. Putting on a spectacle fight was always a bit more challenging on four legs. The two of them watched as a couple of Digimon duked it out on the dance floor, while also being sure to look good while doing it. After some time, Kazemon made her way to center stage, where she was getting ready to announce the next fight.
“Ladies and gentlemen!” she shouted. “We have a, ‘hot’ battle in store for you next from the Rookie Division!” She motioned over to the opposite side of the room. “From this corner, our Rookie Division champion from last year, you know him, you love him, it’s Flamemon!” Cheers from the audience erupted as a Digimon resembling a young boy hopped onto the floor. He winked to the crowd and began to do a little breakdance, which won them over even more.
“In the other corner, this challenger might have the spark required to take the title! Ladies and gents, let’s give a warm Caritas welcome to Marshal North and his partner, Coronamon!” Polite applause was all Marshal and Coronamon were probably going to get as they awkwardly shuffled up to the battlefield.
“This is what they send to fight the great Flamemon?” the champion asked, chuckling as he continued his dance. “This won’t even be a warm-up!” The Rookie Digimon spun around on the floor a few times before flipping up into a fighting stance. Coronamon, electing not to do anything overly flashy, just raised his fists and prepared to fight.
“Let the fight begin!” Kazemon shouted. Immediately, loud music began to play and Flamemon rushed straight towards Coronamon with grace and precision. The flurry of fiery strikes was nimbly dodged by Coronamon, who retaliated with a few Corona Knuckles of his own. The two were so evenly matched and in tune with the music and each other that it looked like they were dancing together. The crowd immediately erupted with cheers and support of both combatants.
The instrumentation began to get more and more heavy, and so did Flamemon’s attacks. Coronamon was starting to lose the rhythm, but firmly planted himself on the floor. As he waited for Flamemon to approach to the beat of the music, Marshal noticed his foot starting to tap along with the rhythm.
“Take this!” Flamemon shouted, throwing a swift kick Coronamon’s way. However, he hadn’t anticipated Coronamon’s next move. A Corona Cloak came quickly and blocked the attack within two beats, and Coronamon was able to follow up with a flurry of swift strikes without missing a beat. The song ended as Flamemon skidded to the floor, defeated.
“The winner of the Rookie Division is the challenger, Coronamon!” Kazemon announced. “Congratulations!” The crowd erupted into cheers for the victor, and also for the intense fight they got to watch. They began to start mobbing Marshal and Coronamon, but the two of them fought their way through the crowd and out of the club.
Marshal sighed as they dashed out of the front door. “Man, that was not what I was planning to do today. Let’s get out of here, Coronamon!” The two of them nodded to each other and prepared to fly off to the Server Woods, where they’d be camping for the night.
