It had been 3 days, and still he had not been deleted.
A week ago, Yggdrasil was having issues. It was glitching out and parts of the Digital World were glitched beyond repair. It decided the best course of action was a complete reset. So that there was no chance of escape it deleted the Royal Knights first, then the Sovereigns.
Later on it sent a message to everyone in the Digital World. If they wanted to live, they needed to leave, but Digimon were forbidden. They had to stay for the reset. Yggdrasil was desperate to become efficient again.
All the Digimon had known what was coming, but noone could feel the sorrow on the same level as Joey. As he stared at the sky as it deleted he wondered why he had yet to throw himself into the path of the deletion. And also why he had not received the messages of his comrades. Maybe they never sent them for a reason.
As he stood staring into the encroaching darkness, he heard movement behind him. It was a Pupumon, scared of the darkness coming to it. It needed comfort in its "last" moments.
"Come here little guy," Joey said holding out his hand. The baby was cautious at first, but eventually it came to him and sat in his lap. Joey couldn't help but tear up. Yggy's rage didn't even spare the baby Digimon in the world. They of course had to go to.
As for his own Digimon, he was deleted much earlier whilst he slept. The deletion had creeped up on them. He couldn't help but remember that his partner started as a Pupumon, and that he gave the same look when he was upset.
"Well, it looks like we're the only ones left little guy. That darkness is just that, darkness. Just fall asleep and it'll go away. I promise" He knew he had to put the little one to sleep to calm his fears. How could it stand to not if it saw the things vaporizing before it.
As he sang to the baby, he noticed the darkness slowly begin to creep into his vision. It was very slow, but he could not run. He couldn't scream or cry anymore. He couldn't even move. He could only watch.
When the baby fell into a deep sleep, he started to think of all of his memories he'd had here. When he got his Digimon, the time he'd beaten a Devimon, and some other small things. They gave him some semblance of comfort to prepare for his inevitable demise.
He thought of all of his broken dreams, his false promises, his heart-broken parents. Oh how he wished he could see them one last time; to tell them how much he was sorry for all of his wrongs. But that was it. His last bit of time had run up.
Now the darkness was only thirty feet away. He could see small pebbles vaporizing. Buildings began to crumble into the abyss. He could only bury himself in thoughts to try to not notice. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't ignore it.
As the darkness approached he wondered what it would do to him. Would he simply cease to exist, or would he be force to feel every individual cell in his body be deleted slowly and painfully until he died. Maybe Yggdrasil would be gracious and turn him into a Digimon. Only time could tell.
And time was running out.
He decided now was the time to panic. Not even he knew what sent him into such a flight response, but he did it with all of his might. Well, what little he had left anyways. Despair tends to be tiring.
He began to crawl up the wall behind him with the baby on his back. He thought if he just kept climbing, he could escape. He kept going not thinking he might fall, just wanting to reach the top. When he hit the peak, he stared and saw what he honestly should have expected. Darkness; pure emptiness.
The cold, black nothingness stared back at him cruely. He knew it was over now. He grabbed the Pupumon and began to weep. His sounds echoed through the dark. Every corner of the Digital World filled with his noises. All 40 yards of it
He then knew what he had to do. As he regained his footing, he preceded to the edge of the tower. It was already over, why would he postpone his inevitable demise. He jumped.
As he fell with the baby in hand, he finally came to terms with himself. He had lived a good life, what having a Digimon and all. But now, it was over. It was time for his death. It was time to end his sadness, his despair. It was time to die.
Then there was nothing but silence and darkness as he went DOWN Down Down. Into the darkness he went.
EDIT: P.S. I want the bits reward if I get it.
