They Said I Need a Hobby... [Kai]

"Tetsu..." a voice called him from the side. A Bearmon is sitting on the edge of a small pond, jar of honey on his lap. Beside him are a set of dry clothes. The bear Digimon already think that this is one beary stupid situation, yet he cannot even make any attempt to show that on his expression. Poor Gryz, what happened this time around? Well let's just say... Grandpa said Tetsu need some hobbies.
Gryz honestly liked Grandpa Rokurou, even if he haven't met the rich old man directly, but he can tell that he's thinking about his grandson. To Tetsu who thinks nothing but farming all day long, he told him one wise thing as a grandparent.
"Tetsu, you go out there, meet some friends or look for some hobby!"
...Grandpa must've thought that It's one great advice. Like he thought Tetsu gone to nearest park, or to nearby football field and start playing one... Too bad, though, grandpa, your grandson is one wild boy. In front of the bear who paws still occupied with the honey, the boy is... yes, catching fishes. What's worse, with bare hands.
"...Irregardless of his beary action, I think this is illegal..."

Kai always had a general idea of what to expect when Shiro perked up and ran off. That said, nothing was predictable about the scene which unfolded before his eyes. A bear in a ballcap sat besides the water, as a small boy was... Grabbing at fish? There were so many things wrong with this, Kai didn't even know where to start. At least it was a safe bet that the bear was a Digimon.
Shiro, at least, was not nearly so shy. Without leaving room for Kai to stop him, the white Digimon declared, "That looks like fun!" As he leapt towards the pond. Water splashed as he landed. Kai wiped the droplets from his brow, while Kuro remained safe and dry within his bag. He couldn't help but let out a sigh.
A few moments later, Shiro resurfaced. "Nyaah!? Where'd all the fishies go!?" the cat-shaped Digimon mewed pitifully. No fair! That was going to be his lunch! The fool plunged back under, determined that no fish should escape him! The scent of Digimon that had initially attracted him was completely forgotten.

"Eh?" the bear Digimon was rather surprised from the sudden appearance of another Digimon. A bit too fast for his eyes, but he soon saw the human--not without getting splashed with the water though. While Kai is lucky with droplets on his brow, Gryz got quite wet from it. Oh boy. But it's not that the bear Digimon minds at all. The guy doesn't look hostile, so he have no problem the slightest. Shaking off the water from his fur just like most beast would do, Gryz tried to dry himself and at least looks presentable.
"Hello there, buddy," the bear Digimon greeted Kai. "Not everyday you see a human cub catching fish with his bear hand, yes? I'd say paw, but that's probably wrong. I tried to stop him, told him that this is beary illegal, but he's not listening to me. He said this is the only place where he and I can catch fishes together... kinda lost interest midway though."
Of course Shiro's voice alerted the boy that's on the water. Thinking that this might be another guy who seem to here to join his fun, a smile spread on his face.
"'Dere are still a lot, yanno!" he said, not noticing that the other party is a Digimon. He accidentally grabbed the tail of the Digimon and yanked it... wait
"...Uh, em... s-s-sorry?"

Kai seems very calm for someone who is talking to a bear. "As a minor, the legality probably wouldn't be as much of an issue. Certainly, I think anyone that cares would be more concerned by the talking bear." Kai shrugged it off. He'd seen stranger things before (Not the Netflix series). A kid catching fish with his bare hands was... Well, he couldn't really be all that surprised after the initial shock.
A soft patter along Kai's side told him that his other partner, the black mustellid named Kuro, had exited the bag where she had been safely hidden. She took her accustomed position, wrapped around Kai's neck. "Are the bad puns really necessary?" she inquired. Kai was surprised. Kuro was rarely this forward. Normally she wouldn't even open her eyes until the third or fourth post.
Meanwhile, Shiro found himself in a spot of distress. "Hey! Lemme go!" The white Digimon wriggled around in the water as he attempted to escape the boy's grasp.. Kai winced in sympathy, but... Well, Shiro had brought this on himself, after all. He mentally praised the cat-like creature for not trying to use his claws to escape- Though, more likely than not, Shiro had simply forgotten he had them.

"Eh, the talking bear can keep himself quiet and pretend it's a doll if that's the issue you're concerned with,"Gryz answered, still looking calm as always. "But not without washing my paws first though."
He watched as the second Digimon appeared. Twin partner, huh... he never thought he'll met one this fast. Not to mention, these two, he never seen their species before. Maybe if they doesn't mind he can ask them later. Unfortunately, one seem doesn't like his awful pun. Yeah, it's awful, but he still used it anyway. The forwardness from Kuro however doesn't deter him. If anything, he just chuckled at the directness. "It's a habit that dies hard, pardon me for that, miss."
Gryz looked back at Tetsu who's already released Shiro from his grip. The boy once again apologized profusely to the cat and is now offering a fish.
"...I think that's illegal, or is it not? Anyway, sorry for the late introduction. I'm Gryz the Bearmon. Over there is my partner slash little brother, Tetsu... no, I'm not his real brother, I'm just acting like his brother bear."

"Who cares, I'm hungry!" Shiro chirps as he gulps down the fish. His tone of voice makes it clear he doesn't have a clue what the word "Illegal" means. Kai vaguely wonders how he managed to fit the whole fish into his small throat. Kuro looks mildly disgusted by her brother. Kai is probably being a terrible role model for the younger tamer. In his defense, stealing a few fish isn't really that big a deal when the risk of having one's Digimon Partner seen is present. Not that he knows the specifics of what happens if partners are found out, he's just heard a lot about how it's bad and should be avoided.
"Kai. Kai Haimura. This is Kuro, and the wet one is Shiro." Kai extended a hand towards Gryz for a handshake. He had an instinctive liking for the Digimon. His comments on Tetsu's actions reminded Kai of how he felt about Shiro most of the time. Kind of like Maia and Kuu as well. The three of them should get together sometime.
Shiro finally finished gulping down the fish that was larger than his head. A glare from Kuro reminded him of the manners he would almost certainly have forgotten otherwise. "Thank you for the food!" the cat crowed. But then, Shiro was a veritable eating machine, and he had already begun to scan the waters for more prey.
Kai should probably stop him, or something.

Yep, that wasn't the first time he saw someone ate something bigger than their throat, but it still made the bear make an awkward face. Dear him, the cat sure have a really flexible throat. Had he not seen a Leomon--wait forgot about that. Anyway, had he not seen someone did the same, he'd thought that most of cat Digimons are secretly snake in disguise. Shaking the strange thoughts away, Gryz shook Kai's hand, although it's probably more accurate to say that he's the one that shaking the little bear's paw, especially because how awkward the belts are.
"Nice to meet you guys. Hey Tetsu!"
"Comin', comin'!"
...Wild as ever, the kid mimicked how Gryz dried himself up before by shaking his head rapidly, Gryz only can sigh and offers Kai a small towel while drying his partner with a big towel. Apparently the cat is still hungry, oh boy...
"Hey, it's cold in the water!" Gryz said. "C'mon to the land, we'll share our fish with you!"
...let's not discuss how he literally remembered much later that the fishes are fishes from illegal fishing, but that's not important. The bear pointed at Kai with one of his claw.
"Tetsu, this fine lad over here is Haimura Kai, that one is his partner, Kuro and that one is Shiro. What should you say now?"
"Er, nice t'metcha?" although normally Japanese people bow at this, he did not. Oh well, kid will be kid.

Kai accepts the towel, but wisely chooses to hold off on using it. Proving his choice correct, Shiro mimics Tetsu's method of drying, spraying even more water everywhere. Now that he won't have to towel off twice, Kai pats himself down. Kuro makes a point of grooming herself after. Nothing bugs her more than having mussed up fur.
No, thank you. We just ate." Kuro replies to the offer. Shiro, however, happily accepts with a cry of, "Yippee! More food!"
Kai can only respond with a soft sigh. Well, on the bright side, it would save some money not having to feed Shiro again for a while. Maybe he should take up fishing as a hobby. He made a mental note to look into that. How expensive could a fishing rod and some lures be?
"Nice to meet you, as well." Kai replied, with a small bow. He wasn't concerned by the boys lack of manners. He was a young boy, after all. He couldn't expect too much.
"So, how long have you two been together?" Kai asked out of curiousity.

Oh, oh! The older guy bowed! Tetsu cannot be such an impolite one this case! He quickly bowed back, but deeper.
"We've been together for few days now," Gryz answered while checking the condition of the fishes. All great, yes.
One said no thank you, another said they're going to eat. Well, eating it is. Gryz wondered for a while where to grill this though, mainly because if stealing fish is not good enough of illegal activity, starting fire out of nowhere is double illegal, so best not. Come to think of it, there should be at least somewhere where they can get something like grill or maybe make sashimi from this, right?
...At least that's what he thought, until he saw something... fun. There's a grill here. Left just like that. High chance that the owner just bolted when police came, but... he guess that as long as they keep the barbecue to themselves and quick, this should be OK, right?
...This is essentially illegal barbecue, yes, and let's not start that this is the forest. technically, they need to have sense of smell like his if they want to smell it from outside... yes, this is good.
"Say, mind if any of us bolt out and buy some spices first? I think we can pretty much have a good barbecue party~ A small one, though."
...Well, technically he have no exact idea that this is illegal, it's something that he regretted for months to come,

Kai grinned at the younger boy's bow. So the kid did have manners, after all. There was hope for the younger generation yet!
"Oh, so it was just recently!" Kai said in surprise. The two acted like they'd been together for... Well, for longer than he had been with his partners. There was a sort of comfort to their relationship that Kai was more than a little jealous of. The fact was, compared to other Tamers he met... Kai just wasn't as close to his Digimon. It was a source of constant concern for him- Was he really cut out to be a tamer?
Which was probably a good part of the reason he had made the executive decision to not be a tamer.
"Oh, uhh... Sure, go ahead." What had Kai expected, that they'd be eating the fish raw? Not that Shiro would have minded, of course. "Yay! Barbecue! Kai almost never gets us barbecue!" Shiro yipped with glee. Kuro just shook her head disapprovingly.

"Yep, just recently," Gryz repeated. "Figured out that my pal here is still a kid and all. I heard most of the summoned kids are older, but turned out he's younger than most... Can't have him got to the wrong path, can I? So I immediately established that our partnership should be the brotherly kind instead of the more equal one. I can be both the brain and brawn, he just need to stay adorable~"
"i don't like that though," Tetsu muttered, grumbling slightly.
"It's fine you know? Everyone started somewhere... no, they need to start somewhere. Anyway! Can you fetch us some sauce and all, Tetsu? Mind going with him for a bit, Kai? I know I might be asking too much, but a boy walking with a bear is odd, and I really can't have him carry me all the time."
Gryz is around fourty kilos, and Tetsu, being stronger than normal kids, usually can lift him just fine, but he's too oversized to be even called a teddy bear.
"...And devolving isn't a choice. Apparently I can't."
Gryz have some oddity in his data that prevented him from devolving until some time passed, but even so, this was the case of where he cannot devolve at all.

By the way he talked, it seemed Gryz new more about this whole thing than Kai's partners had when they first arrived. Well, that was hard to be sure of- Shiro was Shiro, and Kuro generally doesn't explain things unless a specific question is asked. And Kai has no clue what the question is in the first place!
"Sure, I can do that." Kai said, nodding at the bear. Looking odd was the least of their worries with a Digimon walking around in public. Yeah. Just not a good idea. "Do keep Shiro out of trouble while I'm gone. If you look away for too long, there may be no fish left to grill!" He was only half joking. Shiro's stomach was one of the great mysteries of Digimon, and one of the few Kai didn't want an answer to.
"I will go with Kai and Tetsu." Kuro declared. It was not a question. She slunk back into Kai's bag in order to stay out of sight.
Shiro put on his best pout at the accusation. How could anyone even think he would steal the food! That lasted for about 30 seconds before he was back to staring at the pile of fish with a hungry gleam in his eye.
Kai didn't question about why the bear couldn't revert to a prior form. It didn't seem like it was any of his business. "Shall we go?" he asked of Tetsu.

"Aye, got a brother myself," Gryz answered, once again referring to Tetsu "can understand that sort of thing. Shiro, good lad, let's not do anything too much, OK?" Gryz told the cat. "Patience is virtue, and good deed will be always rewarded nicely, so let's play the game called silent game..."
...Tetsu's not sure that the cat would comply, but at least Gryz is trying. It's funny how he said all of this while his eyes are closed and his expression so calm though.... When he thought that Shiro can't be that bad, he's already staring at the fish. Boy, hope Gryz can--yep, the bear suddenly grabbed the bucket of fish and put it behind his back.
"Nope," he sternly yet gently told Shiro.
Tetsu nodded at the older boy. "I think da nearest convenience store is aroun'... uh, where is it again?" he scratched his head. "Sorry, I'm from da countryside an' all..."

"Brother... Huh?" Kai said so quietly that it was probably not heard. When it came to his own brother... Kai never knew what to feel. On the one hand, it felt like his brother was just plain better than him in every possible way. On the other hand... There was no other hand. Just deeper insecurities and inferiority complexes.
"Who, me?" Shiro asked, the picture of perfect innocence. He'd learned a thing or two from Kuro, it seemed. Normally he'd eat the fish, and beam with pride while the scales were plainly visible around his mouth. Kai wasn't sure which was better. The ideal option, though, would be neither.
"Ah, just follow me. I can get us there. Just any convenience store, right?" Kai felt the need to confirm that what they needed could be found at the smaller store, rather than needing to go to a larger grocery store. After Tetsu would respond in either the affirmative or negative, Kai would lead him to the appropriate store.

Oh the innocent kid act, Gryz just chuckled, but decided to keep on a tight watch on the Digimon. Still, something felt a bit wrong about Kai... or just his feeling? No, it's not a feeling. He seem to be bothered. The bear was about to stop the human from going, but he guessed that he's a bit too late for that. Hmmm... it can be probably said later. He turned to Shiro meanwhile.
"Say, good lad, is your partner... OK there?" he asked. to Shiro. Not sure if the overcheerful cat would notice, but... he can't shake of the feeling that he's bothered about something...
Back to Tetsu's group, he nodded in affirmation. "Yep, it's probably just shoyu sauce, or somethin' dat can serve as good sauce! Ponzu m'be? What else? Hey nii-chan, ya should choose some too! I got enough money from grandpops, but I rarely got chance to spend 'em!"
...This might be really alarming. No wonder that Gryz asked Kai to come with Tetsu. The kid is way too naive.
