Elliot was never one for reading the tabloids. It was a bunch of inane junk at best, and active attempts at ruining others' lives at worst. Usually he didn't even bother looking their way when passing them on shopping trips, preferring to focus on listening to the cashier instead of reading eye-blaring headlines like "PRESIDENT OBAMA: PREGNANT?" They were supermarket white noise, and nothing more.
When Elliot saw a familiar shock of red on one trip, however, he found it hard to tear his eyes away. "CALLUM IN CALI? L.A. HEARTTHROB SPOTTED AFTER YEARS OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT." Doing a quick double take, Elliot picked the cover up. It didn't exactly look convincing. The photo was blurrier than Bigfoot riding in a UFO, and literally the only thing visible was red hair. For all Elliot knew, the paparazzi could've taken a photo of Ronald McDonald getting out of his car and tried to pass it off as news.
It didn't stop mere mention of the name from getting Elliot a little bit excited. He hadn't seen Asher since first leaving for college, and with both of their schedules being so packed he hadn't had much time to contact him either. Timezones made it really difficult, too; with how often Asher slept in, Elliot could never reach him during waking hours. That was, what, four whole years of separation? If Elliot hadn't been so focused on work and making friends at school, it would have been unbearable.
This headline gave Elliot hope, though. The hope stuck with him from when he picked up his groceries to when he drove back to his apartment. It stayed as he booted up his computer, dusting off the screen to his liking while it loaded up. It even lingered as Elliot loaded his email client of choice, nervously drumming his fingers on the keyboard as he pondered what to say.
Hey Asher,
It's been a really long time since I've heard from you. How've you been? Anyway, I heard rumors you were in the neighborhood again, and I figured it'd be nice to see you while you're here. We've got a lot of stuff we could catch up on, and I kinda really miss you-
Nope! Erasing that!
We've got a lot of stuff we could catch up on, and it'd be great hearing how things've been in Japan for you. Do you think you'd be up for dinner or something?
Best,
Elliot.
There. That should cover it. Letting out a sigh of relief in the face of his own spontaneous courage, Elliot hit the send button.

"...It's your fault for leaving your apartment, you know," the voice on the other end of the phone chastised. "You should just be thankful it took them this long."
Letting out a groan, the redhead threw a magazine onto his coffee table, with the horribly blurred image and headline that clearly directed to him. "Are you trying to blame me for going to get food? I need to eat, Pip," he bickered, while opening up his laptop, and dragging it onto the couch with him. "-Plus, I think they took that picture when I was going to work. I can't stay in my house and have my job at the same time."
"You need better disguises. There's a giant, hollow teddy bear here, with your name on it."
"Because that's easy to ship to America." It was good that Asher's priority was shipping costs, rather than how horrible it would be to wear a giant bear suit in California weather! Or, would it be considered 'unbearable' in this weather? ..Oh no, bad puns. Shake the thought! "They could have, at least, gotten a better picture."
With the computer booted, the teen began checking through a few news articles, while his sister decided to derail the topic. "--Anyway. Yesterday, we were allowed to bring our pets to work. So I took a few pictures of Whiskers pretending to be a business cat. I e-mailed them to you. Or, she did, really. Never thought a cat would be so good with computers." After a second, another thought clicked in his little sister's head, "you don't think she's going to give my computer a virus, do you? That wouldn't look very good, considering."
Opening his web browser, Asher began to type in his email client. "I really don't think that's how it works."
"Well, you said something about Virus Types before. And, I'm still perfecting keeping that kind of coding out of-"
"--Have you talked to Elliot lately?" While the question would come off strange to Piper, it seemed that Asher's inbox had fully loaded, with the first two unread messages being a horribly cat-punned title from his sister's email, and a far less obnoxiously titled message from Elliot.
"No, I don't want to interrupt his classes. College is hard enough, without fighting timezones to talk. Why?"
Opening the e-mail, the actor shrugged his shoulder, still balancing his cell phone between it and his ear, "oh, I don't know. Thinking."
"Well, that's a scary thought."
Asher really should have expected a response like that, shouldn't he? "You're the only scary thought, Pipsqueak." This warranted an irritated sound from the girl on the other end of the phone, with Asher continuing on before the threats could begin, "I have to finish some things. I'll text you."
Ending the phone call gave the redhead a chance to mull over what kind of response to give Elliot. It was kind of offensive to not have told Elliot that he was going to be in America, in hindsight. 'Dinner sounds good. I have a few days free coming up. If you want, I'll visit you then.' Not even signing the email, the man clicked send before he could even process if it was an acceptable message. Probably another thing to kick himself for, later on.

A response already? Seriously? Elliot almost did a double take when he noticed that he had a pending response right at the top of his inbox. Asher was always so busy. He was sleeping, or working the cafe, or sleeping, or fighting evil in the Digital World, or sleeping . . .
Okay, so he wasn't too busy. But he was distracted a lot, and responding to his co-worker's little brother wasn't always on the top of his priority list. For that reason, it made Elliot almost touched that Asher was so quick to get back to him, even if it was just a little one-line response. Elliot's fingers hit the keyboard at record speed as he tried to think of some sort of a response, often deleting his words as soon as he came up with them in a haste to handle this right.
Great! I'd really like that. It's been too long.
There's a really good sushi place around here-
No, no, that was dumb. Asher just got here from Japan! He was, like, made of sushi by this point. Erase, redo.
We could hit up a steakhouse around here. It's really fancy, and-
What was this? A date? Elliot wanted to lead off on a good foot, but this would've been coming on way too strongly. Besides, either he makes poor Asher pay for his own food, or he has to cover for both of their expensive dinners. No way.
There's a cafe nearby-
No. Too small and light. And Asher was probably sick of cafes by now.
All you can eat buffet-
Seriously?
Elliot let out a huff of frustration, puffing his cheeks out slightly. He ate food all the freaking time up at college. Why couldn't he think of a place now? He looked through all sorts of food places, humming as he picked out the many flaws with each possible option. Would he ever come to a good idea?
Maybe he should prioritize seeing how Asher felt about it. There are a lot of options around here. Is there anything you've been wanting lately? I'm good for anything.
Hope to see you soon!

While waiting to see if Elliot would respond quickly, Asher clicked on his sister's email, scrolling through several pictures of Whiskers. Piper had apparently gotten a ridiculous streak, having accessorized the feline with a pair of Asher's old glasses and a fancy necktie, while the Meicoomon 'posed' at the computer desk. There were several other images of Whiskers napping in a nearby filing cabinet, and ultimately on Piper's keyboard. Surely, the cat fur would be there forever.
Refreshing his inbox, the man noticed another response. "Seriously," the teen mumbled, looking over the e-mail. No suggestions, whatsoever! How was Asher supposed to know what kind of food places were near where Elliot liv-- wait. He was on a computer. The internet was kind of perfect for this situation!
What kinds of foods did Elliot even like? That suddenly seemed like an issue. Judging from the younger Sunderland's orders back at the cafe, and from being able to survive off of the strange foods found in Japan, Asher could only assume that he wasn't overly picky. And, if he was, he was pretty good at hiding it. But, there was no way their messages were just going to dissolve into, 'I don't know, what do you want?' repeatedly!
Now, what were there for options? A lot of cafes, which were all probably big hangouts for college students, reducing the likeliness that Elliot would really want to go there. And, Asher always found himself comparing other cafes to the one in Japan, which would be a pain. Random big-chain restaurants were always an option, but the idea just felt kind of boring. Surely, Elliot wouldn't care, but had been years since they'd seen one another. Did semi-acceptable-Italian-chain give a statement of 'it's good to see you' or did it really just sound like, 'I'm uncreative, and you probably don't hate pasta'? And, surely, the paparazzi that were apparently on the lookout for Asher would love catching him at a fast food place, or something!
"Huh, places do online reservations now?" Clicking on the link to one of the restaurants that had made the list, the redhead sifted around on the site for a moment, checking to see its availability. Though, on whatever college-kid income Elliot had, would nicer restaurants terrify him?
Tapping a finger on the keyboard, Asher shrugged, before typing his next message.
'I can get a reservation at a nice steakhouse near you.' Did that sound too pushy? Eh, whatever. It wasn't like Asher was going to have Elliot pay for anything, anyway! Before hitting send, the actor remembered another important piece of information for the e-mail, 'I'll pick you up. Sound good?'

Well, if Elliot had any worries about Asher finding the steak place too much, they were all dispelled instantly. Not only did Asher pick the place, but he also offered to make reservations. Hell, he even offered to drive! Immediately Elliot found himself blushing. Why was Asher putting so much effort in? Elliot was, like, in his twenties by now. He could totally handle himself. At the same time, he was really flattered by the offer. It was more than he would've ever expected Asher to do for him.
Oh, who was he kidding? Asher was always way too generous for his own good. Elliot's face felt annoyingly hot as his fingers fell back on the keyboard, occasionally missing keys in his current state of fluster.
You don't have to do that! But I really appreciate it. Thank you. The steak place sounds good to me. It's one of my favorites, actually-
Would Elliot have said that no matter which place he was going to? Probably. However, the steak place really did have a special place in Elliot's heart. He was a ravenous eater, and something that thick and juicy was often exactly what he needed to settle his appetite. Sure, it never stayed settled for long, but it was something at least. He was honestly amazed that with how much he ate he didn't pack on too many pounds while up at college.
Still, while he was more than happy with the steak place, something didn't quite settle right with him about Asher's email. But please, don't worry about buying food for me. You're my guest today, right? Travel must be expensive enough as is. I'll take care of you this time, okay?
See you soon!
And sent! It was only after hitting send that Elliot realized that his offer to help Asher out may have sounded a little odd. Oops. Hopefully, Asher just wouldn't notice.

Head tilted, looking at the monitor. Take care of him? Huh. Weird wording. Rather than arguing about the bill via e-mail, the redhead decided to wait until they were in person. Briefly, the redhead debated on just taking a flight and renting a car once he had gotten to the appropriate city, but shook the idea off. If he had ended up on a magazine cover when he hadn't really been going anywhere crowded, arriving at an airport was definitely going to catch the public's eye. Ah well. Even with the drive, it was surely worth seeing someone that he hadn't in years.
But, once the trek had been made, and Asher was sitting outside of Elliot's apartment, it was feeling like a slightly less intelligent idea. The drive had managed to set in a few nerves, about the idea of meeting up with the college boy. Was Elliot going to be upset that Asher hadn't even told him that he was in the States? How much had Elliot changed over the past few years? Neither probably had overly worrying answers, but the redhead needed something to think about!
Trying to push any of the concerns aside, he slipped out of the two-door vehicle. This felt awkward. Maybe he should have ignored the e-mails for a couple of days, first. It was really too late now. Once at the door, Asher really had no choice except for pressing the button for the bell.

Asher wasn't the only one to get grumpy over his own idiocy. Elliot paced back and forth in his room, grumbling under his breath about all the mistakes he made. He second guessed himself like 20 times on the restaurant, and he had no idea what to wear, and he said . . . god, what the hell did he even say? He totally meant that in a not-creepy sense! Like, he was just trying to talk about how Asher was always thoughtful, and kind, and looking out for him. He just wanted to do the same back. That was caring, right? It was totally fine, and didn't make him look like a big idiot.
At least he was able to tear his focus away from that horrible brainfart of a sentence and go back to looking at clothes. It was a fancy restaurant, so he was supposed to look fancy, right? But it was also his first meeting with a friend that he hadn't seen in a while, so he probably should err on the side of casual to avoid making things feel too formal. Was there even an appropriate middle ground here? He constantly put down and picked up the same tie, as if hoping it would open its mouth and tell him whether it was appropriate to wear or not.
Why was he even so worried about this, anyway? Wasn't he just meeting a friend?
His train of thought was interrupted by the harsh ring of a doorbell, making Elliot nearly jump out of his skin. "Just a second!" Elliot called, frantically throwing on the first set of clothes he could find. It wasn't, like, suit and tie formal, but he still made a damn good effort to be nice looking. Hopefully that'd be enough. Once that was done, he scuttled over to the door and opened it.
He was surprised to see that he was basically looking Asher in the eye now, having become basically Asher's equal in size. In fact, Elliot's bad leg made it hard for him to tell if he was slightly taller or slightly shorter than Asher. Of course, he was still quite slender, but dealing with the last gasps of a growth spurt were a large part of why. Maybe one day he'd properly fill out, but now wasn't the day. He'd settled for a simple black and white outfit, crisp and low on anything that would've been considered crass at the steakhouse. Briefly he tried to rack his memory. How different did Asher look in the past, compared to now?
"Oh, hey!" he said, smiling. His voice had deepened somewhat, but it was still noticeably Elliot's. "It's so good to see you again. How've you been?"

Yellow eyes rolled, while Asher smirked, waiting on Elliot to open the door. "It's only been four years. I'm sure I can wait a little longer," he hummed, mostly to himself. Really, Elliot? It was a good thing that Asher had a sense of humor about this! Then again, all the times that Elliot had to wait on Asher actually being awake at all was probably coming back to bite him now!
It was definitely a good thing that Elliot was surprised about the height match, because Asher certainly was. Not that he had much time to mull over appearances, as the redhead instantly reached out to pull Elliot into a hug. "You grew!" What a great way to greet someone, Asher! No hello, or anything! But, Little Elliot wasn't so little anymore!
Where as Elliot had significant changes to his size, Asher had done most of his physical growing before they had even met! Excluding, of course, the fact that Asher had built a bit more muscle, overall, since their last meeting. What would be expected from someone without much better to do? He wasn't going to just turn into the ultimate couch potato! Though, it did seem that Asher had drawn a lucky straw when it came to aging well. What a relief, on his part! Though, Asher really wouldn't have minded magically growing an inch or two. It was weird that someone that had started out so short had almost outgrown him!
Taking a partial step back from the younger man, Asher flashed a smile, "I've been," there was a small pause, while trying to think of the right word, "great." Were they really doing this 'formal' introductory stuff? "How about you?" So weird!
Almost absentmindedly, the redhead began to fix one of his black, button-up shirt's sleeves, rolling a little further up to his elbow. It always felt like gravity was trying to ruin his attempts at 'fashion.' If only it were possible to bypass that kind of thing every so often! The thought surely wouldn't have crossed his mind about his own clothing, if he hadn't noticed that Elliot seemed to be dressed a little more fancy than usual! Which made it almost impossible for Asher to avoid teasing him, at least a little! "Did you have to buy all new clothes, to fit your new size?" There really was no denying that the actor was just as bad at saying hello as he was with goodbyes.

Yep. Asher hadn't really changed much at all, had he? In both appearance and demeanor, he was every bit the same person that Elliot remembered him as. That said, he barely had time to point out that fact before being pulled into a hug. Thankfully, Asher would be way too busy hugging him to notice that Elliot was already starting to blush. Asher was still clearly the stronger of the two! "I did, didn't I?" he said, as if not even realizing the extent of his own growth spurt. "Funny thing is, it was hard to even realize at first. I usually just compared how tall I was with Isaac, so not seeing him much at all made it a lot harder."
Asher paused before giving his answer, but Elliot didn't pay it too much mind. Surely if Asher said he was doing well he meant it, right? "Yeah, me too," he said, trying to play all of this coolly. No need to get too overly excited, surely. He graduated college, which was nice, but it wasn't like he cured world hunger or anything like that. "The last stretch got really stressful, but everything's good now. Now I've just been kinda sitting around and waiting to graduate, while trying to think of what I'm going to do next.
'Course, you've probably been up to a lot of cool stuff too, right?" he added. "You gotta tell me all about it!"
It sure was a better topic than whatever the heck Asher came up with. "I dunno. I think they grew with me," he said, voice deadpan. Wait, maybe the silly question had a point. Maybe Asher was asking about Elliot's outfit. Oh god, was it too much? It was way too late to go back and change now, even if suddenly Elliot really wanted to. Why did all of this have to be so complicated? "How about you? Did you need to do that?" It was the only response Elliot could squeeze out while trying to think about how overdressed he definitely had to be.

Giving a small snicker, the young man shook his head. "Are you saying you didn't notice when you could reach the top shelf by yourself?" This boy -- uh, man? -- was utterly ridiculous! "Isaac probably hates your height, huh?" Isaac really would never win this height war, would he? Poor guy. Asher almost felt bad for him! But, not really!
"And, now we can celebrate you graduating," the redhead pointed out. It was pretty perfect timing for a reunion like this, wasn't it? Eyes shifted upwards, thinking about his own response for a moment. "Yeah," he chirped, "but, we can catch up with all of that over dinner." After all, if they did all their talking while Asher stood on Elliot's doorstep, what would be left for discussing over food? Unless Elliot just planned on inhaling everything in sight, like a horrific vacuum cleaner.
For a moment, the man stared at his old friend, trying to process the joke. "If they grew with you, you must have some very expensive clothing," he retorted, before cracking a smile. Taking a glance down at his own clothes, Asher shrugged. The black, button-down shirt he wore was clearly made of a lighter fabric than a businessman's dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Did it look like it had grown with him? Maybe. Surely, the grey pants hadn't, though. They'd be a tattered mess, knowing how rough he was with his clothing! "I'm pretty sure I bought these last week," he commented, after some thought. "I don't keep clothes long enough to outgrow them." What was to be expected from him?
Taking a glance back to the silver car, the man gave a small hum. Despite its relatively flawless appearance, the luxury car was considered pretty old as far as vehicles went. If he planned on spending much more time in America, he'd probably have to start considering getting an upgrade on that, too. "I made a reservation with that restaurant," he reminded, lightly, before looking back to Elliot. "Do you want to go now, or are you going to make me wait while you make yourself even prettier?" Oh, was he teasing the poor college student? It was probably pretty clear that Asher fully expected that his 'one second' of waiting had been on Elliot's beauty regimen!

"Hey! I could always reach the top shelf," Elliot said, huffing slightly. "I wouldn't just rent an apartment with shelves I couldn't get to. That'd just be silly. But I guess I was straining to reach them all a little bit less than usual." Wait, why was he even commenting about this? He totally knew he had a growth spurt. He just was caught off guard by Asher mentioning it, as well as really everything about Asher. Four years was just enough time for Elliot to forget how much presence he had.
"Believe it or not, Isaac doesn't bring it up much," Elliot added, tilting his head a little curiously. "But I mean, he's still my big brother, right? Even if I'm the taller one now, and unlike before people can actually notice it. But I'm sure he doesn't mind! Too much . . ." Was that a slight ping of insecurity? That was supposed to be Isaac's job, considering he was shorter than his own little brother!
Ah well. No need to dwell on that. Today was all about reunions and celebrations, especially with Elliot's graduation right on the horizon. "Yeah!" he said, pushing his earlier anxieties away and drumming up a smile. "And we can celebrate all that stuff you've been up to, too. I really can't wait to hear about how you've been doing."
Elliot's fabric, in an immaculately clean white, was of heavier than that of Asher's own button-down. At the very least, it stood out nicely against his grey pants, even if the ensemble was a bit heavy for a hotter day like this. Maybe Asher's rolled up sleeves and more casual attire were the way smarter option. "Wait, just last week?" Elliot asked, a bit surprised as he heard Asher bring it up. "I don't usually buy my own that quickly. This has been my formal set for the last . . . two years?" It seemed Elliot was a very diligent washer, with how pristine this two year set still was!
As soon as he heard that Asher got reservations, Elliot's eyes widened a little in shock. "You really didn't need to worry about that!" he said, quickly adding "But, seriously, thank you. Honestly, I'm pretty hungry, so I wouldn't mind driving over there sooner rather than later."
. . . And then the last thing Asher said fully registered. Elliot blushed brightly, looking down at his feet in a mixture of shock and surprise. "I-I think I'm good . . . " he stammered, trying very hard to avoid eye contact.

"I don't think everyone can just rent a place with reach-able shelves," the redhead pointed out, lightly. "Piper invited me over once, just because she couldn't reach the flour on the top shelf." Apparently, it was a better method of 'energy saving' to invite your tall brother over, instead of getting a stool to stand on!
How sensitive was Isaac on this subject, anyway? Now, Asher wanted to harass him about it! "I dunno," he began, playfully, "I think you look like the big brother now." With intent to emphasize, the man placed a hand out to pat Elliot on the head, only pausing about an inch above the college student. Too much physical contact was too much, wasn't it? Well, it was probably too late to worry about this action. Resting a hand on Elliot's head, unless he ducked away, the redhead hummed, "did you do something with your hair?" Did it look different? Or was that just how it looked when it was actually combed a bunch? Maybe Asher had just forgotten what Elliot looked like, overall.
Dropping his hands to his sides, Asher took another glance at his own clothes. "I needed a new shirt for some dinner-thing. Is it tacky to wear new clothes, or something?" Was Asher out of the loop when it came to fashion? That could make for a problem! Then, there was an almost awkward pause, while he looked at his old friend's outfit agian. "Two years?" And then, "'formal set'? Do you only have that one?" Ah, the signs of very differing lifestyles! Maybe, they needed to go shopping before he left town.
Head tilted, curiously. "Sure I did. I suggested the place," he pointed out. It only made sense that he'd make sure they could actually eat there! But, before he could move toward his vehicle, the man realized that Elliot was suddenly acting a little off. "Is everything okay?" Was it something that he'd said? He didn't want to upset Elliot! "I was just joking. I really don't mind waiting, if you aren't finished getting ready."

Elliot sighed slightly as Asher mentioned not always being able to properly get the most fitting shelves. "I know. But . . . I really don't get much choice in the matter, do I?" Elliot asked, casting a forlorn glance at his leg. "I mean, I can't really balance on stools too great, and I'd rather not mess around with tiptoes too much. So it cost a bit extra, but I wanted to make sure I could access everything without much risk of problems." If only there was a way for Elliot to just . . . make himself taller at a whim! That'd be perfect.
Wait a second . . .
Elliot started to blush brightly as he realized he had been forgetting something this whole time. He hid his face, letting out a groan. "Strikedramon," he mumbled. Nobody would be seeing him transform in the comfort of his own home! "I could've borrowed him all of this time. Oh my god." Don't look at him, Asher! You'll only make the burning shame worse!
At least he was too embarrassed to shy away from Asher's physical contact. In fact, the headpat was kind of soothing. "Heh. Isaac's worried about that one for a good while," Elliot said, smiling a bit proudly. " 'Course, he'll always be the big brother to me, even if nobody else sees it that way." Although, speaking of seeing, did Asher seriously notice Elliot's hair? "Y-yeah. I wanted to make sure it was looking nice for today," he admitted, bashfully. He didn't think it looked too different, but he wasn't the best judge of hair.
Apparently he wasn't the best judge of clothes, either. "Most of my money was focused on living expenses, so I didn't really have a ton to throw around for clothes," he said. "I have a few that are good for formal situations, but this is the one I use for really fancy stuff. I usually only need to wear it once a month or so, so it isn't like I'm in too much of a rush to get a second set. And hey, it still looks as good as new! Right?" The college lifestyle sure was different from what Asher was accustomed too.
That said, he didn't have to worry about getting ready anymore. And by now, he knew better than to try and fight Asher on these subjects, even if he really wasn't the most comfortable with Asher paying. "No, no, I'm good," he insisted, smiling. "I was just . . . caught off guard a bit by the compliment, that's all. All ready on your end?"

Asher raised an eyebrow, remaining silent until Elliot realized that digivolving in his own house was a totally acceptable method of reaching the top shelf. A smile slowly spread across the man's face, trying not to laugh at his old friend's reaction. "I doubt you use them much anymore. It's easy to forget, right?" Yes, totally try to go with the comfort option! Thinking about it, did spirits get sad if they were forgotten? Curious thought!
Though, Asher had gotten lucky with having a sister. There was no way that Piper was ever going to catch up to him in height, let alone pass it! So, he'd always look like the big brother! So, instead he'd focus on not messing up Elliot's hair. "Why?" For all the spirit user cared, Elliot could have answered the door in pajama pants and massive bedhead! "I mean, it looks nice," he quickly added, to avoid making the college student feel self conscious, "but it's not like you had to look nice for me." A pretty girl, on a date, sure! But, to go eat with Asher? It just wasn't necessary!
It really did make sense that Elliot wouldn't have the funds for clothes, though. Tilting his head, Asher gave a thoughtful hum. But, he said nothing on the subject. Or, at least, not until Elliot asked a question! "Yeah, it looks great." If only Asher could keep his clothes looking that nice for so long!
Then, there was a small silence, while the redhead thought over what compliment he had given. It seemed that Asher hadn't really thought too much on what he said! But, that was surely no surprise! "As long as it's alright," he murmured, before turning away from the door, jingling the keys in between his index finger and his thumb. "Sure, I'm ready. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be here to pick you up yet, would I?" Asher teased, while stepping around his car to stand by the passenger door. Once Elliot would get close enough, he would open it, in an obliviously gentleman-like fashion. After all, he opened the car door for Pip every time. Why not for Elliot, too? It only made sense, right?
And, after everyone was in the car, they could go to eat! And, wasn't that the goal here, anyway? Or, uh, at least part of the goal. The actual goal was to see old friends. Not eat everything in sight!

"Yeah. It's not like any Digital World portals have popped up in California, so it's not like I've even really had a place to use them," Elliot said. "Seems Shibuya's really been the only place where the two worlds intersect so far, huh? Without that kind of Digital World pressure on me, I haven't had much reason to transform at all." Elliot had no idea what his Digivice was like when he wasn't using it. Maybe the spirits in it were just in stasis, barely registering the world around them. Heck, maybe it was just like a retirement home, and every time he needed to use a spirit it rolled its eyes and forced itself to get back into action. Maybe one day he'd try and find out.
Elliot seemed to sag a tiny bit when Asher mentioned that Elliot didn't need to look nice for him. Shouldn't he be on his best foot, especially for a long meeting like this? "I guess. But I wanted to," Elliot said, looking down somewhat bashfully. "I mean, it's been a really long time since I've seen you, right? So I wanted to be at my best for it." Was that silly? Oh no, that was totally silly. Why was he already making mistakes?
At least Asher seemed to think all of this was looking nice. Elliot let out a slight sigh of relief. "Thank you," he added, a soft smile lighting up on his face.
Right. That was a really silly question of Elliot, wasn't it? Then again, Asher might've wanted to stop in and have a cup of tea before leaving, but Elliot was pretty sure that wasn't the case whatsoever. "Sounds good to me!" he chirped, heading towards Asher's car. He was a little shocked to see Asher open the door for him, but his smile widened with gratitude as Asher did so. He made himself comfortable in the next seat, the implications of Asher's gesture perhaps a bit lost on him.
He knew thanks to his leg he might've needed a bit more leg room, so he decided to slide the passenger seat back as far as possible. That wouldn't seem too greedy, would it? "So, what have you been doing since coming back here?" Elliot asked, figuring he'd strike up some chat before dinner. "I hope I wasn't interrupting anything important."
