The sound of lone footsteps fill the room as Jimmy walked through wherever he had managed to find himself. Well... That didn't say he didn't have some idea where he was right now. It looked to be a room inside a mansion. Maybe a ballroom or foyer or something like that. It was honestly hard for him to tell given that not only was everything rather dark, but it also looked like it has not been kept in any regards for years. Did the original owners just completely abandon this place that it ended up like this, or were they such slobs that they didn't take care of it at all in the first place? Despite having more pressing matters at the moment, these were the questions that were running through his head as he reached the next door.
"Well nothing ventured, nothing gained." He said with a deep breath, wrapping his fingers around the knob before giving it a twist. The door slowly opening to reveal another large room within it. This one mostly bare with the exception of some drape covered furniture that only made things all that much unnerving. Though not as unnerving as the solitary figure that stood in the room with her hood up.
"You sure took your time." Said a familiar voice that gave Jimmy some pause. He took a defensive posture as he watched the figure turn to face him. A similarly familiar face peeking past the hood giving a shy smile. "So tell me Jimmy. Do you remember me?"
"Ran? But... But how? I knew you had moved back to Japan, but please don't tell me you got stuck in all... All of this." Jimmy said as he took a step towards his old friend. Trying to make sense about why she was here now.
"Rena. Stand down. Don't worry. He's not a threat." Jimmy froze when Ran had spoke those words. Only then did he notice the digimon that had been waiting above him ready to strike, holding the metaphysical gun to his head as it were. A brief thought bringing out that another step could have been very much his last if Ran hadn't said anything.
"Very well Lady Ran." A feminine voice said obediently before jumping over towards Ran's side. Only now did Jimmy see that it appeared to be a Renamon, except wearing dragon like armor all around their body. Those fox-like eyes never leaving Jimmy for even a second, making it feel like she was trying to pierce his very soul. "Are you sure he's safe."
Ran nodded her head in reply, "It's okay Rena. I'm sure we can trust him. He's the boy I talked to you about. Now you should get some rest." She tried her best to alleviate her partner's concern. Rena didn't seem to be fully trusting of what Ran had said, but after a moments hesitation, relented anyways. A glow enveloping her form before she suddenly turned into two balls of light, both of which only visible for a second before being absorbed into what Jimmy could only guess was Ran's digivice.
Jimmy just remained silent. Any words that he had to say quickly losing their way to his mouth. A sight of which that Ran couldn't help, but giggle innocently at.
"How long has it been Jim since we've last met? Four or five years now right?" She asked as she gracefully walked around the center of the room, unable to stay still for much longer.
"Uhh... Yeah... I think so... I honestly think I've lost track."
Ran gave the poor teen an overly exaggerated pout that put Jimmy on edge. "Oh don't tell me now that you haven't been counting the days." She asked before breaking the short facade with another giggle, "Sorry. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. The look on your face is just to worth it."
That didn't do much to lighten Jimmy's mood that as he just continued to stare rather blankly at Ran.
"Hey? What's that look for? You look like you just seen a ghost. Which, given the circumstance, I'm pretty sure I should be the one staring at you."
This managed to break the spell Jimmy was under, if only temporarily as he asked, "Wait? What do you mean by that?"
"Well you are the one with his face on a missing persons poster right?" She explained, "And quite an old looking one at that. If I hadn't known that missing kids in this town are usually the ones that get lost in the digital world, I would be pretty sure you were dead at this point." A small, sad smile then formed on her face. "Which I'm honestly glad isn't the case."
Jimmy couldn't help, but chuckle lightheartedly at that comment. "I guess that goes for both you and me both."
The two then proceeded to converse with each other for what ended up feeling like hours. Catching up on this and that and what have you. It was almost like a conversation that the both of them had shared back when they went to school together. Although there were noticeable topics that they had both strayed from. Neither of them willing to prod the other about there personal problems when they had just finally met once again.
After some time had passed, Ran looked at her watch with some surprise. "Oh shoot. Is that the time? I'm going to be late." She said as she quickly shot up from the small corner the two of them had found themselves sitting in. Grabbing her digivice in haste.
"Wait? Are you just going?" Jimmy asked a little disheartened by the sudden change of events.
"Sorry Jim. I would love to stay and chat some more, but I have something really important to get to. I'll make sure to contact you again as soon as I can."
The spirit user wasn't quite sure what to think about that, but just gave a nod. "Alright then. Try not to be a stranger then."
"Don't worry. I won't." A portal then appeared from her digivice that she disappeared into. Leaving no trace of Jimmy's old friend other then the memories of their chat together.
"Well at least she's doing alright." Jimmy said to himself in an attempt to cheer himself back up, yet something still nagged him in the back of his mind. Something that he was forgetting about. "Oh shoot. Her ocarina. I meant to..." He just shook his head as he knew it was no use to think about that right now. "I'll just show it to her later. She'll contact back with me eventually...
"I know she will."
