"I mean really, we're just out of the Digital World and already we're being called on for meetings?"
"It's just a friendly hangout dude?"
"Do you understand how badly I just wanted to sleep!?"
"You can sleep later, come on, we're almost there."
The brunette and his electric blue haired partner turned the corner of one of Shibuya's busier streets, arriving on to Society Hill, a place in the city that they actually have not visited too often. It wasn't that Darian didn't like the area, but even if you're extremely rich in the Digital World, real world money is a little harder to come by. DatS didn't fork out the greatest wages and he wasn't sure if he could claim to the government that "Digimon Tamer" and "Saved the world" were actual qualifications for any sort of payment. Thankfully, the teen young adult had managed to save up some extra cash that he wasn't using for rent. It was enough to simply have a coffee with a friend.
Gabe walked closely behind Darian, arms folded behind his head in a relaxed, sort of defiant stance. While he wasn't exactly the happiest about not just being able to go home after a rather....close call in the Digital World, what with that huge egg exploding practically in their faces and all, he was excited to see Paul and Bi again. It had been a while and it was always nice to see a face that didn't want to plaster theirs against a wall. Gabe was quite frankly, sick of being constantly targeted. The past several weeks have pretty much just been one huge battle for the duo, and he was ready for some rest and relaxation.
Darian looked around earnestly for his friend and his Digimon partner. Though now that he thought about it, a giant yellow bird wouldn't exactly be normal in the streets of Japan. He wondered where Paul would choose to hide her, or if she would even be present for the meet up. It wasn't long before his thoughts ceased with the sighting of the small sign above a door that they were approaching in the shape of a smoking coffee cup. The stereotypical sign for a coffee shop. Taking a quick look around once again for Paul, Darian glanced over his shoulder to address Gabe.
"We're here. You smell 'em anywhere?"
"Nada, from here all I can smell is......deep roast and hazelnuts. Gabe said with pinpoint accuracy.
Darian simply sighed,
"As useful as ever bro, as useful as ever."

It was... weird being back in the Human World. In a way it almost felt as though this was the foreign land, Paul thought to himself as he and Bi walked along the streets towards the cafe he had mentioned to Darian. It had been nearly a year since they had last spent any significant amount of time here, and he didn't know how exactly to feel about it. On one hand, it was probably good they came back. As contact between the worlds had been severed for a while, his parents were nearly sick with fright. It had taken quite the convoluted story to convince them that everything was okay, and he knew that there was a large part of them that didn't believe a single word he said. But ultimately he was alive and safe, and that was what mattered the most to them. The rest was mere detail. Of course, the near-death experiences he had experienced would have made that a moot point, but there was no way he could tell them about it. Especially not that he had seemed to have found a girlfriend. Or something like that.
He glanced over at the girl/Digimon in question. Bi was casually walking along the street in her holo-suit, her orange-red hair tied back into a loose ponytail. She was wearing a pair of white shorts with a light pink top over a black camisole. It was a simple outfit, but to Paul she was still stunning. Every time they kissed, part of him couldn't believe his luck while the other part struggled to come to terms with the fact that on some level what he was kissing wasn't entirely real. Yet in a sense it was still Bi's body, just another form from her normal Biyomon form. The whole thing was quite confusing and made his head hurt more than it had any right to do.
With a small shake of his head, he tried to clear his thoughts and focus on the task at hand. Part of him felt bad about what he was going to ask of Darian, but he was the Watch's best chance of finding a source of funding. Before he had left the Digital World, he had gotten some preliminary quotes from different mining companies about the cost of building their base and establishing the hidden Trailmon system. It wasn't going to be cheap. Even pooling the money from all the current members, they still didn't have enough. Darian though had received that ridiculous sum of bits for winning the tournament a while back, and provided he hadn't found a way to blow through it, there should be more than enough left for him to help back the Watch. If he decided to join as a fighting member too, so much the better.
"We're almost there, you know. Darian and Gabe are our friends, you know. It does no good to have a frown on your face when you greet them for the first time in a while," Bi chimed in from beside Paul. She had been walking in silence for quite some time now, and it was starting to bother her. It wasn't hard to guess what was going through Paul's mind, and she knew it would be eating at him, asking a friend for such a large favor.
Just as they came within sight of the cafe and anyone there, Bi stopped and turned Paul to face her. "Be happy, alright? I'm sure they won't mind. Just relax. You're more fun that way," she said with a smile before she suddenly pecked him on the lips.
Paul's first instinct was to pull away, but they had been in a pseudo-relationship long enough that he fought down the urge and kiss her back a bit. He could feel disapproving stares from the people passing by, but he didn't much care. A cute redhead was kissing him. How could he not be happy?
Ending the kiss, they faced the cafe again and started walking. Spotting a shock of bright blue hair, Paul could feel himself grinning. "Well hey, look who it is. Darian and Gabe! Glad to see you guys could make it," Paul called out as they reached the cafe.

Darian decided it would probably not be best to enter the coffee shop until he could see their companions. After all, he wouldn't usually be caught in a coffee shop tossing out money for overpriced coffee unless he was here with people that mattered. He did have a coffee machine at home after all. But alas, seeing Paul and Bi again was worth it to take a trip into the richer areas of Shibuya. After all, they did say they had something important to talk about.
That was when a vaguely familiar smell graced Gabe's nostrils. Although it was faint, thanks to the highly aggressive scent of coffee and hazelnuts in the area, Gabe thought he could very faintly smell a hint of Paul heading towards them. Turning his gaze to where the scent was approaching them, Gabe was quick to see a familiar face accompanied by a not so familiar one.
"I see Paul. He's with somebody though. Girl is smokin'" Gabe explained, causing Darian to turn his head as well.
It was no lie that whoever it was that was accompanying Paul was attractive. The red headed female beside him definitely fit the definitions of pretty. Gabe was holding back the urge to whistle a stereotypical cat call, it was just such a perfect situation.
That very same moment was when the duo stopped and in a very sudden movement, were involved in a brief kissing session that quite frankly shocked both Darian and Gabe. Now they knew from prior experience that Paul had a way with the women, but they hadn't expected him to have gotten himself into a relationship. Although, maybe that was why they hadn't heard from him in so long.
Unable to handle it anymore, Gabe let out a loud, dragged out whistle as the kiss finished, his look of shock quickly diminishing into a look of being impressed. Darian gave him a sharp glare after the whistle, Gabe acted more like a teenager than most teenagers sometimes, even after everything that they've been through. Gabe was the first to speak when Paul and his companion announced their arrival.
"Well would ya look at that! Darian wasn't the only one who went out and got himself a lady." Gabe stated cheerfully as he moved closer to the two to give Paul a friendly fist pound to the shoulder.
Darian simply narrowed his eyes at Gabe for a split second before actually responding to Paul's initial statement.
"Haha, of course we could make it. It's nice to see friends sometimes, especially after the last few weeks we've been having. Though you made it sound pretty important? What's up?" Darian asked curiously, though almost immediately after finishing his question, another one struck his mind.
"And now that I think about it, where's Bi? I was expecting to see her as well. Though, after that statement he quickly realized his rudeness and made to fix it as he turned his gaze to Paul's companion.
"Not saying that your presence isn't welcome!" he said extremely quickly, "It's very nice to meet you! I'm Darian, and the blue haired eccentric one is Gabe!" Darian finished, making the quickest of introductions in order to cover up any tracks of him not really giving her any notice at first.
Though Gabe, who was still nearby them after giving Paul the fist bump, had a brief moment of realization as his nostrils flared, another familiar scent being carried too him from the girl. He slowly craned his neck towards her with a look of realization spread across his face.
"Wait a minute...you! You're Bi!" Gabe announced with gusto, almost as if he had solved a mystery.
A dumbfounded look quickly found its way upon Darian's face. The only question going through his head at the moment was 'Just what the hell just happened?'
Surely Paul and Bi would explain.

It was all Paul could do to avoid grinning like an idiot when Gabe made the comment about getting a lady. Bi of course had blushed a bit at the whistle from Gabe, but she didn't say anything. They had briefly discussed whether or not to tell Darian and Gabe about their relationship and had decided on showing rather than telling them. And seeing as they were all friends, they couldn't pass up this good an opportunity to mess with Darian and Gabe.
A bemused smile crept onto Paul's face as Darian unleashed an unintentional barrage of questions. They were quite logical in their progression, and see Darian try to backtrack in his perceived rudeness. Darian really was a good guy, and Paul was happy to see him again.
While Paul was watching Darian tying in tongue in a knot, Bi kept an eye on Gabe, noting when his nostrils flared. She knew that he'd be able to smell her scent before too much long passed. The question was how exactly he'd react when he realized that it was Bi who was the "lady" on Paul's arm. Almost as soon as Darian had finished speaking, Gabe delivered his revelation, and Paul and Bi couldn't stop themselves from grinning a bit at the puzzled expressions in front of them.
"Why don't we grab a seat and some coffee, and we'll explain everything, including why we asked you guys here," Paul offered. Spotting an empty table, they headed over and eased into the chairs, waving a waitress over to them and ordered a pot of coffee for the group.
Turning back to Darian and Gabe, who had presumably followed them over to the table, Paul began to explain everything that had transpired since they last saw Darian and Gabe.
"I don't know if you heard, but a little while after we saw you guys, Bi and I got involved in the subspace that had appeared in Terminus. After exploring it, we found a Wisemon by the name of Herald who stole this egg thing that was hidden within the subspace. He escaped through a portal that Bi followed him through, threatening to kill him if he didn't turn over the egg."
"Unfortunately it turned out that the portal exited right outside the subspace and that Herald was a government official. So I ended up threatening with lethal intent a government official in front of a few dozen law enforcement officers. Because nothing actually happened and the odd circumstances, I was simply given a six month exile from Terminus," Bi finished. It felt like a lifetime ago since they had entered that cursed subspace, yet on some level she didn't regret it. If they hadn't been exiled, they never would have reached this stage in their relationship.
"We ended up traveling to Whitewater to live for the time since the Trailmon weren't running between the worlds then. Living together all alone for that long... things that we had buried came back up to the surface," Paul continued explaining. "Bi came home in this holo-suit one day and... well..." He wasn't entirely sure how to phrase what came net.
"We figured a few things out and decided to try a relationship. We both love each other, and so far we've found ways to make it work," she said with a smile before giving Paul's hand a squeeze.

Darian simply sighed as he finally blundered out what he was trying to say to the new girl, though the sigh had been quickly replaced by a look of bewilderment as Gabe's nose made a discovery of its own. Gabe took a few steps backwards, his lips curled in a grin as he "effectively checked out" Bi's holo-suited form. Seeing as how Gabe never really fully grasped the idea of relationships outside of the human race, this was purely platonic. He released another loud whistle before fist bumping Paul's shoulder with a chuckle.
"Look at you two kissin' in the street. It's like high school all over again!" the blue haired Digimon joked with a grin.
Darian made a quick note to fix the dumbfounded look on his face as he finally processed everything. When he thought about it further, it really wasn't anything unexpected. When Bi was a Digimon she did seem awfully 'close' to Paul, it's only natural that things would go where they appeared to have gone. Especially with a holosuit like...that!
"Well hello there Bi!" Darian quickly said in greeting now that he knew just who he was talking too, "It's nice to see you again."
A few seconds later, the duo both nodded as Paul offered to enter the cafe and get some coffee. Darian followed close behind Paul and Bi, taking up an empty seat across from Paul. Gabe on the other hand trailed back a few steps, sniffing the air in an odd pattern, taking in the scent of his favourite roast mixed in with the other roasts in the area. Finally sitting down he let out a sigh of relief.
"God damn I love coffee!"
Darian smirked as he turned his attention back to Paul as soon as he began to speak. Though what Paul had to say wasn't exactly what he expected. When he got the story going, more specifically, when they mentioned a familiar Wisemon known as Herald, both Gabe and Darian glanced at each other knowingly. Gabe even had the gall to smirk a little at the mention of the Wisemon's name.
When Bi spoke up, Darian listened carefully. Now he understood why they hadn't seen the two for so long. They were stuck in the Digital World. He couldn't imagine how that must've felt. Darian had only been stuck in the Digital World for a few weeks thanks to his obligations, but being stuck for longer sounded brutal.
"So that Wisemon..Herald? Yeah, we won't be needing to worry about him anymore." Gabe said with a grin.
Despite the recent mental and physical wounds, Darian even managed to grin a little bit when he thought about the villains that they had recently defeated.
"We may have caused them to....explode? Karma?" Darian stated with a brief smirk directed towards Bi and Paul.
Lastly, Darian and Gabe both listened closely when Paul explained their living situation at the time. When he got to the end of the statement Gabe was quick to interject,
"She came home and things got a little hot in here, right? Right? I mean really, you guys are probably already beating Darian and Kanna in that depa-" Gabe was quickly silenced by a swift but strong backhand.
He rubbed his head where Darian hit him with a wide grin on his face before allowing Bi to finish. This time Darian was the one to speak,
"Well, it seems to be working. I mean, I don't see a problem. Gabe here's all for it."
"You bet'cha!"
"So it is what it is." he said with a smirk, "I mean, there's gotta be some happiness in this crazy ass double world we live in right?" he questioned.
Not meaning to be rude in any way, or attempting to change the subject on purpose, Darian was still quite curious as to why Paul called him here. Seeing now as a fitting time to question it, he asked soon after his last question.
"So what's up? Nothing against a casual coffee gathering or anything but the email seemed kinda important. Anything bad happen?"

A brief moment of elation raced through the pair when they heard Darian and Gabe describe the death of Herald as being rather explosive. That Wisemon had nearly been the death of them, so to hear he was good and dead in lots of little bits of data made both of them rather happy.
Paul did his best not to laugh out loud at Gabe's later comment about the tipping point at the beach then Darian's reaction to the comment. It made sense that they would immediately jump to that area of relationships. Bi and he had almost done the same thing in actuality. "It's funny you should say that. That first day we-" his statement was quickly cut short by a swift elbow from Bi.
"That is something that should stay private. But, yes Darian, so far so good. Every little second we can find of happiness is worth it. Hopefully you and Kanna have been able to find some time of your own," she said with a smile. She really did hope for the best for the two of them. It was rare to see a love like theirs. She could only hope that what she and Paul had could even begin to match it, let alone have its lasting power.
Finally the moment had arrived. Paul could no longer put off telling Darian about everything that had happened.
"Well... not to us directly, but yes," Paul began slowly. "After we spent a few months in Whitewater, we decided to travel around the Digital World. I had never seen all of it in its entirety, so Bi thought it'd be fun to get out and explore it again."
Bi nodded in agreement. "When we got to the north though, we ran into an old friend, the former Digimon partner of a girl we knew. They were in the Dark Area when things went... wrong," Bi said, trying to fight back the urge to cry. It had been so shocking when she first heard it that it didn't quite register, but the more she thought about it, the more horrifying it became. The thought of losing her dearest partner was almost too much to bear.
Placing his arm around Bi, Paul continued the story. "It made us think about the Digital World. We've heard rumors about an evil organization, and we ran into the leader of another group, not evil exactly, but I didn't like the vibe I was getting from him. Yet not once have we ever heard of a group that is dedicated for the good cause. Even DATS was only about the law, not about actually what is right and wrong. We want to fix that." Paul paused, deciding to wait and see what the reaction would be from Darian and Gabe. Maybe they'd offer to help with the funds without Paul having to even ask. One could hope, right?

Gabe let out a short laugh towards Bi's little interjection of Paul's speech before he could get too far into describing what had happened on "that first day". Even Darian couldn't help but chuckle a little bit as she mentioned that whatever it was should stay private. She was probably right, he was pretty sure Gabe was most likely joking about the subject anyhow. Although, knowing Gabe (especially when he has his cellphone camera on hand), he may have not been.
Darian's laughter died out shortly after when Bi mentioned that she had hoped that him and Kanna had been able to find some time on their own. In reality, Darian hadn't seen her in a few weeks now, or maybe months. He hadn't really been paying attention to how much time had passed what with the fact that he was practically fighting for his life every day for the past while. He had been meaning to go see her, but he was still waiting for an opportunity with her also being busy with her own life.
With a short sigh, Darian spoke, "We haven't exactly been able to see her lately." he said, a hint of sadness lacing his tone, "We were stuck in the Digital World for a little while. Fighting for my life every day was a little intense, and I didn't need those Wisemon or that kid with the BlackAgumon finding out about Kanna. They almost killed me, I couldn't bring that upon Kanna as well." he explained, his smile long gone, replaced by a flat, emotionless line.
Gabe felt the need to sort of add in the finishing detail to Darian's words, "We haven't been back to the Human World in a month or so. So really, this is one of our first few days back home.
Finally it came down to the time for Darian's original question about what the subject of this meeting actually was to be answered. The duo listened intently as Paul began to explain. Darian was impressed by the fact that they had chosen to travel around the Digital World. That would probably mean that they knew a lot more about the place now than maybe even him. Sure, he's been in and out of the Digital World for five years now, and he'd been to some pretty far out places, but he has never actually taken the time to venture out and thoroughly travel the place.
They both could sense a very obvious hint of sadness when Bi continued the story. Although former could mean many things, when it came down to a Digimon becoming a "former" partner of someone, there was really only one reason. They decided it would probably be best that they didn't say anything about it. It seemed to be hard enough that Bi even had to bring it up again. Hearing "sorry" wasn't going to do anything helpful.
As Paul continued his explanation, Darian seemed to clue in on what he was asking first. Or at least, what he was hinting at that he was going to ask. From the sounds of it, Paul had ideas to make a team that fought for a good cause, not just for the law. Thinking back to his days in Gattai, Darian wondered if something like that could ever come forth again. Even so, Paul was right about DatS. As the second highest ranking member next to the commissioner himself, even Darian felt sometimes that they weren't doing enough to help at any given moment.
Escaping his thoughts, Darian questioned, "So you want to make some sort of group, right? One that fights for the people? Not just to uphold the law? Am I catching the gist of this?"
Gabe, also cluing in, joked from the background, "Did you name it NotDatS? Cause I think you should name it NotDatS." he said with a chuckle.

Paul breathed a small sigh of relief when he saw that Darian and Gabe had caught on pretty quickly to what he was suggesting. Of course, they didn't mention the money bit which would lead to another delightfully awkward question, but that they didn't seem to reject it immediately filled Paul with hope. He had suspected as much about this pair. From the little Paul had heard of their adventures, he got the general idea that they had saved the Digital World at least once or twice. There was no way that two guys who would be willing to put their lives on the line for the sake of the world would disagree with the basic notion of trying to help others.
In response to Darian's question, Paul nodded his head. "That's the idea. We already have a few people who are willing and ready to join such a group." He thought of Ryo and Light, Leo and Rich, and Jubei and Al. The eight of them weren't much yet, but Paul had high hopes. All of them had proven that they would do everything in their power to fight for good and to protect others. That was ultimately all that Paul could ask of them. The trick now was figuring out exactly to set up such an organization so they could help as many people as possible.
When Gabe made his comment, Bi just rolled her eyes. "I'd rather we avoid using or even thinking about the name DatS. Acronyms are tacky anyways," Bi added. "Although the name we came up with is probably just as cliche in its own way."
Paul shot a slightly annoyed look at Bi. "Hey, I didn't hear you coming up with any better names. Plus, I think it sounds kind of cool. The Watch. That's a pretty decent name for a vigilante group that fights for good, don't you guys think?" Paul asked, looking over towards Darian and Gabe for reassurance on this point.

Hearing the relieved sigh that Paul had let out, Darian smiled knowing that he was understanding just what they were asking. Though, the first thing that went through his head of course was 'dear lord, am I about to get myself involved with a third group?'. Honestly though, if there was anybody that Darian could think of that could possibly run a group and not let it fall apart, it would probably be Paul. Thinking back on his previous encounters with a group, Gattai, DatS, and now even DoT somewhat were falling apart, maybe The Watch would be more successful.
"A few people? Hm, maybe I know them." Darian mentioned, wondering just who Paul knew and had convinced to join a group.
Gabe's comment had seemingly struck a small nerve with Bi. He simply chuckled as she rolled her eyes. Apparently they weren't too fond of DatS. Admittedly, what had they ever done? Well, they did stop a Tyrannomon once, but that was against the point. Just what had THEY done to not exactly like the sound of the place? Gabe made a mental note to ask them one of these days before he returned to listening, apparently their name was just as cliche.
Darian and Gabe both pondered the name for a few seconds after Paul announced it. Gabe spoke first, a cheerful smile on his face as he downed the last remaining liquid in his cup.
"I think The Watch sounds pretty cool! Like...we could be the vanguards of the Digital World, first in the march against evil!" Gabe stated over dramatically, "Or y'know, just protect people. I like it!" Gabe finished.
Darian crossed his arms, looking directly at Paul with a knowing smirk on his face,
"The Watch sounds pretty good, but really, since you brought it up, why do I get a feeling that you're not really here to discuss the name with us?" Darian questioned, the corner of his lips curving slightly more, knowing that he rooted out the actual cause of this meeting.
