The Assaultmon continued to open fire as Sakuyamon scooped Maia up. Perhaps a more thinking opponent would take advantage of their pow-wow to regroup or set up an ambush, but the Assaultmon seemed to have very strict programming. When their initial gunfire didn't seem to work they took a step forward, hoping to focus their fire slightly and keep pressuring Kuu through his conversation with Maia. Thankfully, the Mega managed to share her from the entirety of the hail of fire, even if it was starting to get painful for him as well.
If this was painful for Kuu, soon it would be twice as painful for the Assaultmon. The Burning Blue rings shot out in a wave from Kuu, the Assaultmon leader letting out a snort of gas as he realized what was going on. He leaped out of the way with mechanical precision, a slight glint of malice in his eyes.
His compatriots were far less successful. A Burning Blue ring sliced through each of the four Assaultmon, sparks flying from them as they were knocked back into the corners of the room. The runt of the litter was especially unlucky, sliding headfirst into the elevator console. Soon the main platform of the room started to retract once more, dragging the dazed and fallen Assaultmon back down to the depths below.
One down, four to go.
The Assaultmon leader, seeing that all three of his remaining troops had stumbled, facepalmed. Considering that his hand was a minigun and his face was an unreacting gas mask, it looked equal parts comical and unnerving. He then proceeded to bellow furiously towards the others, the words "WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP," audible through the static. For handless quadrupeds this was way easier said than done, a shower of sparks and a gout of hydraulic steam gushing from each as they started to stand. This time they kept further out of formation, not wanting to remain in one place for another Burning Blue.
The lead Assaultmon's eyes glowed red as a small laser came from them, settling onto Kuu's shoulder to do . . . nothing? Weird. At least its purpose would become clear when a small missile launcher rose from the shoulder of each of the Assaultmon's subordinates. Each let out a cry of "HALT, INTRUDER!" as they launched a small missile. The missiles were oddly slow, but distinctly started to bend as they flew. In fact, careful observation would reveal that they were tracking right where the lead Assaultmon's laser was pointing.
Maybe these things weren't so stupid after all.
One Assaultmon falls down the elevator, three others are hurt badly, and the leader escapes. The remaining three Assaultmon fire missiles in Kuu's direction, the path of the missiles guided by the Assaultmon leader's laser sight.

With a chance to recover himself, the Sakuyamon uncurled, pulling his tamer into one of his arms. "That was like bowling!" Kuu chirped, tilting his head to the side. After all, one rolled pretty far away! Like, to a different floor! And, watching the others trying to get up was just as humorous!
Still, Kuu wasn't the type to play dirty in most cases, and let the others get their bearings. "Okay! So, where was that conversation going before?" Really? Still trying to keep up an argument right now? His tamer let out a groan, shaking her head. Why couldn't Kuu find a better time for this conversation? Like, when he wasn't being shot at?
Eyes lowered to the red dot, tilting his head in the other direction. "Laser pointer!" the Mega squealed, trying to grab at it while his tamer was still in hand. Well, that was one way to distract him! For a few seconds, at least.
"Kuu!" Maia snapped, trying to pull her partner's attention. "That's not a laser pointer! Remember the spy movies?" Of course Kuu remembered the spy movies! Whenever he ran out of cowboys and space movies, spy movies were the next best option! Also, some of those took place in space!
Letting out a displeased groan, the God Man slouched, "I don't like those laser pointers." Nobody should! Except for the ones using it as a target! Making sure that Maia was scooped into the other arm, the Digimon debated. How many more hits was he going to try to just take in some attempt to keep his tamer safe?
But, instead, Maia adjusted her own positioning, pulling away to stand on the icy floor beside her partner. "DigiModify," she hummed, pulling a card from the bottom of the deck instead, and slipping it through the D-Arc, while eyeing the missiles. With any luck, Kuu would understand the point! As the missiles would get closer to their target, the blonde continued her statement. "MegaGargomon's Gargo-Missile, Activate."
Giving its staff a whirl, data flickered, as two overly-happy looking missiles formed in front of the Mega, jetting forward to impact with those that were destined for Kuu. As a precaution, the Digimon shifted to block his tamer from the inevitable blast. And, just in case some of those missiles didn't connect with his own! After all, there were more than two Assaultmon attacking! But, if calming everyone down wasn't going to work, then they may as well just blow everything up with a missile-off, right?
In hindsight, Maia had to hope that the room was going to be able to support the force of missiles being thrown around in it. Maybe that had been a bad idea. It was too late to take it back now, though!

The lead Assaultmon's communication line flared up a little, the burst of static almost like a gasp of shock at Kuu's missiles. "MUTANT," the Assaultmon accused, jabbing one of its miniguns in Kuu's direction. Sakuyamon weren't capable of attacks like that! Slowly the minigun started to shift in shape, the barrel retracting back and spreading apart. A small taser unfolded out from the gun, sparks maliciously shooting out from the tip. "DIRECTIVE ORANGE. DIRECTIVE ORANGE."
If Citramon was any indication, Directive Orange didn't exactly seem like an enjoyable time.
Seizing the mutant would have to wait until later, though. For now the Assaultmon would have to get the better of Kuu, and that didn't seem like it was happening. The four Assaultmon braced for impact as their missiles approached the pair of Gargo Missiles. One ran over to the door on the room's east side, tearing it off of its hinges and motioning for the others to use it as cover. All but the leader, who still needed to guide the missiles, followed suit.
It was just barely enough. The entire room went up in smoke as the four missiles careened with each other, the explosion practically filling the small space that everyone was confined to fighting in. The Assaultmon were almost pinned down by the steel door that they were using as cover, splintered metal and tongues of flame rushing past them. The leader had hopped back from the giant explosion, the force of the impact nearly slamming him against a wall in the process. Nevertheless, he wasn't very harmed for now, allowing him to focus on the smoke cloud that rose from the site of impact. His stance was stalwart and unmoving as he waited for the smoke to clear, his target surely lying within.
Something was in the smoke, alright, but it wasn't the target. While one of the Gargo Missiles had detonated in the kerfluffle, the other held fast. It slammed directly into the Assaultmon leader, this time launching him right through the room's eastern wall. The room let out a groan of protest, shaking somewhat on its supports, but despite Maia's worries seemed to hold fast. Less stable was the Assaultmon leader, who could faintly be seen rising through the new smoke cloud that the second Gargo Missile kicked up. He didn't look so good. One of his gas mask's lenses was cracked, a large chunk had been taken out of his chest armor, and most notably of all one of his arms had been blown clean off. Nevertheless, he jabbed his taser into his open wound, barking at the others to "COVER, COVER!"
The Assaultmon squad, pinned down in their cover, now started snapping into action. They moved the door to block the hole that Kuu had created, parking themselves in front of it to the best of their ability. Two of the Assaultmon reared on their hind legs in mechanical synchronization, spilling bullets from their miniguns to cover the left and right sides of the room. With escape routes cut off, the third Assaultmon also reconfigured its minigun into a taser. The taser let out a high-pitched whine as the Assaultmon fired it directly at Kuu, hoping to ensnare him.
Not all the gunfire was coming from upstairs, however. Some gunfire also seemed to be coming from around the elevator platform. Rather than aim at Maia or Kuu, it instead seemed to be focused entirely elsewhere. The gunfire only grew more frantic as time passed, only for the sound of metal ripping against metal to cut it off. Worse than the ripping noise was a thunderous crunch, following by the sound of high-pitched feedback shrieking. It was as if a microphone had just been put in a blender, and even when both sounds died down they continued echoing through Cold Storage.
The elevator started to move again.
The Assaultmon Leader is hit bad, but tries to overclock his systems to get back into the fight. Two Assaultmon lay down suppressing fire with their miniguns, while a third fires an electric net from its taser. Something's not quite right . . .

"Uh, no," the Sakuyamon drew his words out, slowly, hearing his new title. "I have what we call a taaaa-merrrr." Way to sound condescending! They're sheltered robo-monsters! He shouldn't expect them to be smart! Kuu wasn't even very smart most of the time! "I get to do cool stuff 'cause of that!" Cool, new things was the best part about this job! Well that, and free cookies.
No oranges though. Kuu really wasn't interested in eating oranges after having met a living one! He didn't want to know what Directive Orange was, that was for sure! Though, for the time being, he didn't have to worry much. Instead, he braced himself for the smoke and explosions, wrapping an arm behind him to make sure that Maia didn't fall on the icy floors.
The mega glanced around, as the trio began to work on cutting off options of escape. That, along with gunfire that didn't quite fit that around him, the Digimon scrunched his nose under his mask. "D'you hear th--" Turning to look back at the Assaultmon, there was a small, "uh-oh," that escaped his lips. Misstep! And, with Maia behind him, he didn't have a set of eyes to give enough warning!
Rather than risking the net surviving another counter attack, the Sakuyamon adjusted his hand on the girl behind him, shoving her back. "Careful! It's icy!" Kuu chirped.
Letting out a squeak, the blonde fell backwards, sliding across the floor a short distance. "Kuu! What are you--"
And, that was when the net connected with the Mega. Determined to keep his stance, the God Man stood as still as possible, shuddering at the electric current. Okay, this felt pretty awful! After a moment, the Mega level monster would shift his weight, eventually dropping into a kneeling position. Falling completely down would be game over! He couldn't do that!
He also couldn't let Maia touch a zappy net! Noticing his tamer stumble to her feet, he began attempting to flail himself free, despite the intense discomfort. "D-d-do not!" Who needed proper sentences when an electrical current was all around you? Not Kuu! "You'd get hurt!" Or die. What would something, of a level that was built to trap a digimon, do to a human that touched it? Kuu didn't know. He didn't really want to find out!
"So?" Voice cut, sharp, through the static in her partner's ears. "You get hurt all the time for me," she pointed out, pulling fingers away from the net, to instead look through her card options again. If she couldn't touch the net, was there anything she could do?
If anyone could see under the monster's mask, they would see his eye twitch in irritation. Okay, it might be the zapping. But, it was irritation, too! Why was his tamer so stubborn sometimes? Clenching teeth, Kuu debated on what he could say to try to get the girl to a safer location. But, was there one in a place like this?
Now, if only one of them was paying enough attention to notice that the elevator had started. Maybe, they were going to have more things to worry about than being trapped in a net.
Kuu is ensnared in a net, and did not attack this turn due to it. Maia is busy card-hunting. Both are unsuspecting.

The covering fire of the Assaultmon slowly winded down as they realized that their opportunistic strike had paid off. The mutant had been seized. The net-bearing Assaultmon raised a hand to halt its compatriots, motioning for them to follow as they approached. With how cautiously they strode forward, it was clear that this wasn't their first containment procedure. As far as they knew, it was an open-and-shut procedure now. The human was helpless, for all Kuu boasted of its abilities. The Digimon was easily nabbed. They were down an ally, but the loss was justified. Another breach had been sealed.
The lead Assaultmon moved to join his troop. Still twitching somewhat from the grievous wound in its side, it chattered among the group as it tried to decide what to do with Kuu. One spun its gun up again, aiming it towards Kuu, but the leader whacked it upside the head. "PANICKING," it hissed through its gas mask, for the first time showing the slightest bit of disunity between these automatons. It shuddered towards Kuu, its one functioning arm shaking as it shifted into an insulated hook. The other Assaultmon followed, each snaring the net to try and bring Kuu away from this place.
They were just in time, too. The last Assaultmon had come to join them. Its head popped up from the slowly rising elevator, tilted awkwardly and making a persistent, warbling echo of static. The other Assaultmon backed up a little in surprise, the leader asking the rising Assaultmon "SLACKER?"
The golden spear of bone jutting through the Assaultmon's chest, the very next thing to make itself apparent, was a sign that this wasn't just slacking. Sparks jutted out from the site of impact as the elevator continued to rise, revealing that the spear was actually more of a trunk. Specifically, it was the trunk of a massive, humanoid elephant that was currently dragging the Assaultmon around like a trophy. The end of the trunk almost seemed impaled into the Assaultmon, the cyborg seeming to shrink with each second it spent impaled. Its head was entirely made of gold, barring the twisted horns that rose from its skull. Both of its arms were like dense clubs of bone, with spurs rising from the elbows and vicious claws on the left hand. A blood-red core sat inside of its ribcage, pulsating and squirming in an almost hungry fashion. After it had risen to the top of the elevator it paused, using its massive forearm to tear the Assaultmon off of its trunk and carelessly fling it across the room.
Standing there, heavy breathing coming from its trunk, it cast a disgustingly familiar silhouette.
It didn't have much time to stand alone. A grenade tossed by the Assaultmon leader smashed against its side, the injured cyborg roaring "SUBJECT THREE" in what almost sounded like disbelief. It was a heroic effort, but unfortunately didn't accomplish anything but catching the SkullMammothmon X's ire. It charged forward at a speed way too fast for its stumpy legs, eye sockets glowing slightly as it backhanded the Assaultmon leader clear across the room. Its three squadmates opened fire, each trying to draw the SkullMammothmon X's attention, but it didn't even pay them notice. Instead it stormed over to the fallen leader, lifting it up by the chest and roughly pressing it into the wall. Both the Assaultmon's already-injured armor and the wall itself started to cave in from the sheer force of the SkullMammothmon X's grip, even as the mammoth itself didn't even seem to move.
With everyone's attention drawn, now Kuu and his net were left forgotten by the side. Between the gunfire blasting through the air and the way the room quaked with each of SkullMammothmon X's footsteps, however, that didn't seem quite the same as safe.
SkullMammothmon X enters the fight, draining the lost Assaultmon of its data and tossing it aside. The Assaultmon leader tries to stand against it, but is chokeslammed into a wall for its trouble. The three remaining Assaultmon open fire to try and help their commander, leaving Kuu mercifully ungrabbed.

It definitely looked like things were taking a turn for the worst. Maia took a step away, as the hooks took hold. Kuu's flailing would only subside when this happened, in some attempt to find a better way to resist. Though, it didn't look to be necessary. Both tamer and partner stopped, to stare at the Assaultmon rising from the elevator. Something just didn't seem right.
And it clearly wasn't.
As the new Digimon entered the room, the blonde found herself frowning intensely, slowly reaching over to tap the trapped Sakuyamon, as if trying to direct his attention. Except, there was still an electrical net in the way. Feeling a shock travel through her fingertip, Maia let out a shriek, jerking back and dropping a few of her cards on the ground. Okay! So that was a bad idea! More than a little jolted, the teen took a moment to compose herself. Wide eyed and shaking, it was a wonder that she was even still on her feet! After a deep breath, she slowly looked toward her partner.
Even with a mask on his face, it was very obvious that Kuu was judging her for that one.
Through his own shocking experience, the digimon began shifting again, in some attempts to free himself. Just focus on Maia! If Kuu couldn't get himself out, she was inevitably going to shock herself again in some stupid attempt to help him! Surely, it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but it felt like the zapping was worsening, on top of it! If he had been complaining about Maia's predictability, Kuu was going to be shunned about using the same move twice when this was done! "M-ai! Step back!" Volume control was another one of those things that went out the window when electricity was coursing through one's body, it seemed. Not that Kuu ever had an indoor voice to begin with!
While the girl wanted to protest, a blue light forming around Kuu made her decide to take him seriously. Shuffling her feet, she attempted to scoot the dropped cards back, with her, to move just out of range of another, "Burning Blue," that was intended to cut through the obnoxious item that was trapping him.
With any luck, it would be enough to break free, and keep Maia safe from everyone else in the room!

Perhaps Maia's attempt at getting Kuu's attention would have alerted her captors to the fact that their charges were unattended. Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for Maia and Kuu, even Maia's pained shriek was lost over the din of battle. Bullets ricocheted off of the SkullMammothmon X's bones as it stood, completely unmoving. Instead it was the Assaultmon leader that seemed to move, a few spurts of sparks and data shooting out as its body seemed to collapse inwards like an empty soda can. The Ultimate had picked a losing fight, and was now at the receiving end of a tag-team beatdown at the hands of SkullMammothmon X and the wall. On the Digimon's head lolled over to the side, SkullMammothmon X let out a raspy breath and hurled it away. Unlike the other Assaultmon it landed in halves, body rapidly dissolving into data.
This may not have been the best thing for the morale of the other Assaultmon, but they were certainly trying their best. SkullMammothmon X rushed at the trio, the point man of which frantically lifted the door that they were using as portable cover. For the time being this stopped SkullMammothmon X, his shoulder spikes embedded in the door, but after wrenching out of his predicament he started assaulting the door with several bashes from his heavy hands. His claws rent through its frigid metallic surface like a can opener, but at least something besides the Assaultmon were forced to deal with the damage. As it focused on the door-wielding Assaultmon the other two fanned out behind it, each switching their main cannons to net gun configurations. As the SkullMammothmon X reared up for one last strike, prepared to obliterate both the door and the Digimon wielding it, the Assaultmon panic fired.
Electrified nets wrapped around both of the SkullMammothmon X's arms, causing its deep, droning breaths to intensify to a higher pitched shriek of pain and surprise. The two Assaultmon leaped up, their other arms shifting to hooks so they could try and bring the beast down. If one net was causing Kuu enough trouble as is, two were clearly a lot to deal with for this new foe. It took a knee as the Assaultmon dug their claws into the floor, pulling with all their might to try and hold its limbs down.
A shame all their might wasn't even enough. By slicing through his net with the Burning Blue ring, Kuu had proven he could brute force through the nets with a sufficiently powerful attack. The net went inert as it fell, leaving only pale yellow strands at Kuu's feet. SkullMammothmon X took a rather similar approach, although its brute forcing was somewhat more direct. With a hideous bellow it pulled its arms inwards, throwing the Assaultmon off of their footing and forcing them to faceplant. Then it started windmilling its arms, sending the Assaultmon spinning for momentum before finally flinging them clear across the room. They landed in a dazed heap, nets tearing clear off of SkullMammothmon X's arms in the process. For the time being they were disabled, not killed, but SkullMammothmon X clearly planned to change that. Its hand glowed slightly as its claws curled inwards, now grasping onto a projectile.
As it flung the projectile towards the fallen pile, Maia and Kuu would clearly see what it was: an orange.
SkullMammothmon X crushes the Assaultmon Leader through a wall. Nothing of value was lost. The Assaultmon use their shocking nets to try and snare SkullMammothmon X, but he powers through and flings them aside. SkullMammothmon uses a Citra Grenade on the resulting pile of fallen Ultimates.

At least that monster seemed pretty preoccupied. Otherwise, the duo would have been in a lot of trouble! It must have some serious tunnel vision, when it came to fighting! But, now that the duo was safe from the Assaultmon, they were becoming progressively more aware of how nobody was safe from the floor's new guest! "Should we," the tamer slowly began, trying to process what to even suggest. Run? Probably. But, where to? And, would this mammoth destroy Gizumon next, if they left it unattended? "Try to help?"
Giving a rapid shake to his body, as if trying to brush off his daze, Kuu looked to his human. "Wow, Maia. I think the zappies hurt my brain! It's translating what you say into hero words!" This only warranted a glare from Maia, as she pressed her lips tightly together. Kuu, on the other hand, maintained the widest grin possible, before returning his attention to the situation. "We could! But, then they're just gonna catch me again after! Plus, it's two against one! It's not like they're gonna lo--"
It certainly seemed like the two had lost their sentences a lot today. Good thing neither of them really needed words. Things were not looking up for the Ultimates! Were they just incapable of fighting well without numbers? Or, was this enemy just that strong?
Not that anyone needed to ask that, when SkullMammothmon X's next move caused both partner and tamer to drop their jaws. While Maia's immediate response was to take a step back, Kuu blurted, "orange friend?" Oh. Oh, this could be bad.
"That is not your friend!" Maia insisted, finally finding words. "It's probably going to turn to us next." Not that there was much time to save the group of Assaultmon now.
Knowing that once the grenade connected, the group was likely a lost cause, the Sakuyamon had already begun moving while his tamer was speaking. This was so not fun! Aiming blue flames toward the orange before it could land on the pile of Ultimates, the Digimon lost all chance at going unseen. "Flame Fox Drive!" It wasn't like they were going to sneak out of this place unscathed, anyway, right? May as well attempt be be a hero!

Kuu's intervention was a damn good thing. The Assaultmon were so dazed that they couldn't even brace themselves for the grenade currently hurtling towards them. Fortunately, due to Kuu's timely aid, they weren't even in the blast radius by the time it exploded. Pulp, flame, and smoke flared out mere inches in front of the Assaultmon's faces, leaving them splattered in orange goop but otherwise unharmed. A wisp of blue smoke rising from the explosion was the only sign that Kuu had made this difference.
Unfortunately, what he lacked in wordiness SkullMammothmon X made up for in attentiveness. His head snapped nearly 180 degrees as he turned to face the source of his failure. His eye sockets narrowed hatefully as he gazed at the duo. The one in gold was clearly a threat, with far more power and delicious, delicious data than the entire menagerie of Assaultmon provided. However, it was the one in purple that truly caught his attention. His eyes narrowed further in clear recognition, and the core clutched in his chest started to pulsate at three times the speed it had prior.
The Assaultmon twitched within their pile, wondering just what to do about this situation. Let the aberrants fight it out with one another? Try to wear down the more threatening of the two so that they could at least ensure the allegiance of the victor? Take advantage of their second chance and just escape before they were all deleted? The three chattered among each other loudly, trying to plan a course of action, only to fall silent as a thunderous crack echoed through the air.
A heavy foot stomped against the ground, kicking up dust, scrap metal, and shards of ice as it pawed back. SkullMammothmon X did this again and again, the room shaking more with each stomp, before lowering itself onto all four of its limbs. Then, with a bellow that sounded downright hateful, it lowered its head and charged towards the duo at blinding speeds. However, his head was twisted towards the right, horns pointed to aim at one target in particular.
It wasn't Kuu that SkullMammothmon X sought its vengeance against. It was Maia.

He hadn't been too late! What a relief! Kuu was still a hero! Sort of. Then again, how often had the Digimon ever actually been a hero? Ah well. No point in thinking of that right now! As far as the Sakuyamon was concerned, he was the best! For now, at least! Under the mask, eyes shifted toward the mass of pulpy Assaultmon. "Don't do stuff that makes me regret that!" The mega chirped, far-too cheerfully. If he had learned anything from the D-Reaper, it was that being too friendly could result in painful experiences! Luckily, this one didn't involve burning ooze on his paws!
The first stomp was enough to draw attention to their new enemy. Amber eyes barely shifted to throw a glance to her partner, as the Sakuyamon shifted the staff in one hand. "Hey-a, Maia?" The armored Digimon chimed, inching closer toward his tamer, at the second stomp.
Frozen in place, the girl only uttered a, "hm?" barely audible over the next thud.
"D'you trust me?"
For a second, even the sound of the room rattling seemed to die in the teen's ears. Head turned, to give a quizzical look at her partner. Why, of all times, would he ask this now? Lips parted, slowly, to begin mouthing, "wh-"
"Do you?"
What kind of question was this, even? With all of the times that Maia's fate had rested in a crazy fox's paws, it should seem obvious! Yet, here he was, asking dumb questions! Then again, was it really that silly, considering how often she shut him down? "Y-yeah. With my life."
The Mega's lips curved into a smile, while head tilted to the side. "Good! 'Cause, you dropped your fancy-rank cards! And I'm prob'ly gonna need them!" This warranted a confused glance from his tamer, before he added, "y'gotta trust I'll keep you safe." Was Kuu seriously the one making strategies here? That didn't sound safe at all!
But, it seemed the trust question was rather important, considering the urge to freeze again, as SkullMammothmon X began his charge. Kuu was quick to move between the charging monster and his tamer, while Maia managed to slip to the ground, pulling the handful of cards across the icy surface, toward her. Would any of these actually be useful against such a terrifying foe?
For the time being, Kuu's main focus had to be more on keeping the target at bay, rather than trading blows. After all, it was going to take a minute for Maia to even swipe a card! He couldn't wait that long! Slamming his staff onto the ice, a ripple emitted from the item. "Amethyst Mandela." With any luck, it would at least be enough to keep the enraged monster from damaging anything too close to his tamer! Or, even more preferably, from heavily damaging the Sakuyamon that had placed himself between his human and the enemy!

Maybe the pile of Assaultmon were hoping that they could get away unnoticed. Kuu turning towards them and happily chirping dispelled any possibility of that, however. They immediately resumed their discussion amongst one another as they untangled their mass of cybernetic limbs, wondering how they would possibly fulfill their obligations without being thrashed by a merry fox priestess. When did their job description get so complicated, anyway?
Maia's job description of hero got a lot more complicated, too, now that she had to perform it with the horns of a thrashing creature mere inches away. Thankfully Kuu was able to put a stop to the matter. The Amethyst Mandala barrier pushed back against the creature's charge, forcing SkullMammothmon X to stop. The barrier's normal repulsion abilities would be put to a major test, however. Whereas normally it pushed enemies away, a heavy and strong target like SkullMammothmon X was able to dig his claws into the ground and continue forcing himself against the barrier. When simply pushing wouldn't work he would start to simply smash his head directly into the Mandala, letting out a horrid groan with each attempted attack. For the time being Maia would be safe, but how much pressure could the Mandala be put under before snapping?
The Assaultmon sure seemed to be taking advantage of this scenario. They shifted their weapons back to miniguns, standing along SkullMammothmon X's flank and back as if they were a firing squad. After a quick 3 count they opened fire, the room lighting up from the flashes of their muzzles. Bullets rained down on SkullMammothmon X's back, but in his single-minded rage he seemed focused entirely on bashing down Kuu's shield. That said, each bullet that landed its mark was another small dent in its bone and steel carapace. It may not have been doing much, but damage was still damage.
Hopefully that damage would come soon, though, because the SkullMammothmon X reared up to hover over the Mandala. The horns on his head started to rotate, and with a vicious bellow he smashed his head into the shield with all of his might. If he couldn't smash through the shield normally, then he would just have to bore through it!
The Assaultmon fires viciously at SkullMammothmon X, who seems only mildly affected. SkullMammothmon X uses Giant Crush Bone to try and bore through the Mandala.

Cringing, the blonde dug her nails between the icy floor and her cards, to pull the small mass into her palm. "I didn't sign up for this life," she hissed, through clenched teeth. But, she did kind of sign up for all of the things happening right now! After all, she was the one that decided that it was a great idea to return to this creepy place! And, for what? A faint hope for some sort of cure? That's what Kuu thought this was for, didn't he? Was that all it was? Why would she even consider that a possibility? Just because this place hosted totems for a spirit, it didn't mean it would hold potential for a cure!
"At least it never gets boring!" Kuu chimed, positively. At least someone needed to have a bright outlook on these sorts of things! Otherwise, the duo would just be a downer! Though, it would also be a downer if Maia were to get hurt! Especially as the Sakuyamon cringed, and a ripple formed across the barrier.
Eyes flickered over the cards in hand, using her thumb to shift through them. "Can't argue th-that," she nodded, jerking as the monster on the other side of the barrier appeared to begin drilling. The sound of gunfire wasn't the most welcoming, either, but at least it wasn't directed at them! Nose scrunched, as the girl opened her mouth, moving to separate one card. But, soon she jolted again, hearing a crumbling sound emitting from the barrier, and immediately moved to pull the card from behind it. Without taking a moment to look at the card, she swiped it through the device. Hey, there was a better chance using a random card, than the one that she was looking at! Probably, at least! "Digi-Modify," she blurted, finally turning the card to look at what effects it even had. While it would be nice to think over the results of each move, the teen simply went with the first one that hit her lips, "Valkyrimon's Hawk Inferno, activate."
As the Mandala finally gave way, Kuu twirled his staff, while a hawk materialized in front of him. "I don't like birds much," the Mega commented, with a shrug. No, they had beaks of doom and Kudamons didn't find them very friendly! "I hope you don't, either!" Of course, who would enjoy a flaming bird attacking them?
Meanwhile, Maia rose to her feet, sliding a little further back from her partner, throwing glances at the cards in her hand. She really needed to work on how she reacted under stress! There were so many cards that would have been far worse picks, surely!
Amethyst Mandala has been broken. Maia has swiped a card -- Kuu used Hawk Inferno. Hawk Inferno: The target Digimon launches a flaming hawk forward, which relentlessly tackles its opponent.
Cards Used: 2/5 Prajna: Cooldown: 3/3; Mental State: Settling Down.

A face full of flame wasn't what SkullMammothmon X expected from the cracking of the Amethyst Mandala. Thanks to Maia's quick timing it was exactly what he got. The colossus staggered back, putting his hands to his skull-like face as a bird made of flames started swooping around his face. It did its job perfectly, stealing the mammoth's attention just through its close proximity. The mammoth dropped its focus on Maia to start taking wild swings at the hawk, which naturally had no impact on its intangible, flame-like nature.
Each wild strike left it a little bit more off-balance than the first, spurring the Assaultmon into action. One tackled the SkullMammothmon X in the side, sending it stumbling forward from its already imbalanced gait. That spurred another Assaultmon to leap in front of it, headbutting it right under the chin. Now the SkullMammothmon X was dangerously unstable, windmilling its arms desperately as it tried to keep its balance on the icy floor. A third Assaultmon reared around to kick it in the chest, sending it toppling over head-over-heels. It hit the ground with an earth-shattering thud, the entire room swaying from the force of the impact.
Perhaps if the Assaultmon didn't keep pressing their luck, this would have gone fine. However, one of the Assaultmon started to get a little bit cheeky. After landing from his kick he pawed the ground, leaping into the air to try and stamp down on the SkullMammothmon X's vulnerable core. Its sharpened talons, an oddity on its almost equine looking stance, pointed right towards the glowing red mass of data. By all accounts, it should have been a flawless KO.
Unfortunately, SkullMammothmon X wasn't quite dead yet. The Assaultmon's eyes widened in shock as a metallic claw slammed shut around its side. The SkullMammothmon X's eyes were glowing a vicious red as its grip tightened, sparks flying from the Assaultmon's now crushed midsection. With a ponderous slam the SkullMammothmon X rose to its feet, turning lazily to consider the barely-conscious Digimon currently sitting in its hand.
It turned towards Maia and Kuu, the red glow now spilling over to its bones. The SkullMammothmon X's Digicore had spiked out of control, and pulses of red lightning were now arcing between it, SkullMammothmon X's claws, and the poor Assaultmon stuck in its grip. These pulses intensified until soon a small ball of plasma had surrounded SkullMammothmon X's hand. It aimed the ball (and in the process, the poor Assaultmon) at Kuu, then with a single flex of its claw launched both right at him.
SkullMammothmon is seared and staggered by Kuu's attack, then knocked down by the Assaultmon. Unfortunately, Assaultmon #3 gets cocky, gets smashed, and is now being flung at Kuu alongside a crackling ball of red plasma.

This seemed like a winning moment for the group! Watching the Assaultmon's growing success, Maia found her muscles relaxing a bit too soon. All it took was one misstep for everything to become an utter mess! Kuu placed his staff in front of him, not even glancing at the other two Assaultmon, while instructing, "you guys should prob'ly go home now!" Then again, wasn't this their home? Regardless! They should understand that to mean 'run' instead of 'die'!
Then, there was another pause, before he clicked at his tamer, "you should move."
Having just steadied herself on her feet, the blonde threw a confused look to her partner. Wasn't it safer to be behind him, rather than off to the side someplace? What if SkullMammothmon X decided to target her the second she stepped away? This was how bad decision were ma-- oh. That looked like a projectile! Despite not really wanting to move from her partner, the girl did as instructed, taking several rapid steps to the side. Thank goodness for growing up someplace where the ground turned to ice for a chunk of the year! Otherwise, this ice-rink-of-danger would not have made her movements easy!
"This is how you guys make me regret doing nice stuff," the Sakuyamon mumbled under his breath, steadying his staff in some attempt to brace himself. After all, it would probably kill the Assaultmon to just try to counter the attack! Then again, for all Kuu knew, that Assaultmon was gone for, considering it was sort of part of the attack!
Shutting his eyes behind he mask, there was another mutter of, "this is gonna hurt," just before the Digimon-and-attack crashed into him! Okay! This was worse than D-Reaper goo! The fox found himself thrown back, slamming into the ground. Barely even letting out a groan, the Digimon didn't seem too intent on moving much for the time being. But, at least he was still holding Mega form!
"Kuu? Are you okay?" Trying not to go running into danger, the teen managed to keep herself in place. The memory of Reppamon being hurt during the fight for Alicia's totem pulsed to the front of her mind, causing the blonde to bite down on her lip. If he was alright back then, he should be okay now, right? That's logically how things should work! So, there was no reason to panic! Or, at least, she'd keep telling herself that!
Slowly propping himself up on one elbow, the Sakuyamon groaned an, "if I say no, do I get popcorn tonight?"
"You're fine." Typical Kuu! But, if he stayed on the ground much longer, he might not be!
Kuu has been hit with both a plasma ball and an Assaultmon. He has been knocked down, and did not attack this turn.
Prajna: Mental Status: G--Nevermind.

Unfortunately for Kuu, his second hypothesis was correct. Data trailed away from the Assaultmon as he hurtled towards Kuu, and the only reason why he didn't end up slamming full-force into Kuu was because half of him had already dissolved into data. After Kuu was bowled over the Assaultmon gracelessly tumbled into the wall, the last of his data fading into the ether. That left three allies down with only two allies left, and unfortunately they decided now to take Kuu's advice. Immediately they ran towards the room to the East, more than content to let Kuu draw the primary weight of SkullMammothmon X's fire.
And draw SkullMammothmon X's fire Kuu certainly did. The living fossil stalked towards the fallen Sakuyamon, using all fours to avoid slipping on the near-ruined ice. Without tons of explosions and yelling to distract Maia, she would be able to clearly see just how much wear and tear the fighting had caused to her foe. A large spot on his skull was blackened from where Kuu's bird of fire had made direct contact. His gait was a little uneven, presumably from where one of his vertebrae was thrown out of alignment by a particularly mean fall. His core, which was almost solid looking in the beginning, was now starting to pulse in and out like the heart of a marathon runner. A few cracks had spread across his bones, and even a few fragments could be seen trailing after him.
Nevertheless, the mammoth's gait was unimpeded as he moved towards Kuu. As it reached the Sakuyamon he finally rose onto both legs, aiming to loom over him and prevent any further escape. His trunk swayed back and forth as he looked Kuu over, then suddenly pulled back as if SkullMammothmon X was readying a punch. The tip of the trunk sharpened to a rigid, spear-like point, and malice almost seemed to spark in SkullMammothmon X's eyes. Then, in a flash, he bucked his head down, his trunk whipping towards Kuu to attempt a vicious impalement.
The remaining Assaultmon bail. SkullMammothmon X uses Nose Fencing on the downed Kuu.
