Oh, good. The Assaultmon had left. Not so good for their most recently fallen comrade. But, at least Kuu couldn't really blame himself for that! And, with the room mostly cleared, the Mega didn't need to worry so much about anyone else getting hurt if he did something reckless! Though, what was more reckless than taking a blow just because it might save a Digimon that was part of the attack? At least Maia hadn't been behind him for that one!
And, sure, Maia could see that the enemy was damaged. But, she could also see that her partner wasn't in the best of shape, either! After dealing with Assaultmon, electric nets, and this monster, Kuu was battered, shocked, and kind of tired! Obviously so, since he still found himself on the ground as the SkullMammothmon X approached him! Reeling back to the card that she had been looking at prior to Valkyrimon's, there was a small cringe.
Ever-so-softly, she could hear Kuu comment a frustrated, "oh, this is gonna hurt more," while trying to shift himself into an upright position in time to get away from the upcoming attack. Of course, this was easier said than done, when moving upward would only position himself closer to the threat!
"I don't know if I hope this does what I think it does or not," Maia admitted, words jumbling together as she swiped a card that seemed to lack any descriptions. "Digimodify," she started, only to let out a squeak, as the card began to disintegrate as it made its way through the slider. Well. Hopefully she never needed that again. Despite losing shape, the data remained, however, as dust-like fragments sparkled, and soon whirled around the girl. Pulling the D-Arc close to her chest, Maia squinted, feeling a warm sensation brushing over her skin. "Biomerge," another short pause came, as vision blurred into a flash of white. "Activate."
If there were any doubts to what this card was going to do, they were long gone now. Sakuyamon's mask instantly softened, as data sparkled and rapidly brushed across the Mega. The much-needed armor disintegrated, replacing itself with softer fabrics, and flowing hair. And, for a brief moment, everything felt silent, and as though time had stopped. Even as a monster was only a short distance from impaling him-- them? -- everything had just... ceased.
Nothing was said, even within the shared mind. A flash of red. Fire? D-Reaper residue? Fur. Eyes rolled behind the mask, as the light began to fade, permitting proper vision. Had this been what they anticipated? It didn't hurt. And, it wasn't loud. Were either of them even thinking right now? The soul -- was this a soul? -- felt solitary. But, far from alone. Could they move? They hadn't yet tried. And, how would they know what to do from here on out?
Maia found herself to be the one with the courage to speak. First, humming, "Sakuyamon: Miko Mode," and soon followed up with, "Crystal Sphere." With a small flicker, an orb formed around the user, just in time for SkullMammothmon's attack to collide with it. And, in time for the newly-formed Super-Mega to process that, despite being two pieces forming a whole, one side was awfully quiet.
Sakuyamon has bio-merged into Miko Mode. Miko Mode used Crystal Sphere to protect itself.

Whatever the human had done, it seemed like a rather bad idea. She drew a card and, as soon as she swiped it, seemed to disappear. Then the Sakuyamon that she was with lost its armor, leaving only a low-cut priestess' dress behind. It was almost as if the Digimon was begging to die, just a single strike through the sternum enough to end this little game. Its human wasn't even there to protect it with a card any more, either. By all accounts, this situation was perfect.
The somewhat changed Sakuyamon faced no fear, however. Instead it simply looked up at SkullMammothmon X, calmly uttering first its name and then the name of an attack. Judging by the crystalline ball that suddenly appeared around Sakuyamon, it was another shield. SkullMammothmon X continued his lunge uninhibited. Its signature technique was capable of cracking through most armor like eggshells, allowing SkullMammothmon X to feast off of an opponent's data directly and without any inhibition. What chance would a barrier stand, anyway?
Apparently a lot of chance, judging by the way Nose Fencing bounced off without making a single crack. The SkullMammothmon X stood before the orb, dumbfounded. It lifted a finger and tapped the orb with an almost uncharacteristic gingerness, as if waiting for its touch to simply cause the crystalline orb to detonate.
Then it went absolutely ballistic, smashing at the orb with both fists while shrieking like a being possessed. Despite the sheer strength behind its tantrum, it didn't even seem to be making an impact on the Crystalline Orb. The force behind its strikes was almost neutralized, the orb not even shaking from side to side no matter how hard and fast it swung. Despite being an undead automaton, SkullMammothmon X almost seemed out of breath from the exertion. Soon it was forced to stop, casting a baleful eye towards Sakuyamon.
It took a step back, flexing its rather sore claws, and then aimed both hands at the orb. Its Digicore began to pulse once more, heat pouring from every gap in its skeletal structure. After building energy in this manner for a few seconds it launched another burst of plasma at Sakuyamon, sparks leaping from its hands in a constant stream. It took a few shaky steps away from Sakuyamon as it did so, seemingly trying to burn both the shield and the Digimon that it protected to smithereens.
The Crystalline Orb completely shuts down both Nose Fencing and several clubbing blows. SkullMammothmon X launches a searing burst of plasma to try and fully engulf the Crystalline Orb.

It was a little lucky that SkullMammothmon X would have misjudged the situation. After all, the combined duo could use the interesting experience of an attack just bouncing off their shield! And, they really needed a moment to properly assess the situation!
Namely, the silence. Taking the time of safety to sit upright, Maia stared through the mask that shielded their face. Despite knowing that they were both present, Kuu's mind seemed completely blank. Not a thought escaped, beyond that initial flash of red. Head tilted up, to stare at the fossil-monster as he prodded the line of defense. Was this how Kuu felt every fight? Witnessing it first-hand wasn't nearly as alarming as being the bystander! Maybe, that was part of knowing that they had some control of the situation.
Lips parted, as a breath escaped the Super Mega's mouth. Searching their headspace, the blonde tried to figure how mental communication might work between the duo. Would inner-monologue help? Or, would Kuu just know that she was trying to properly locate him? Surely, a human alone couldn't navigate this body!
But, it wasn't like she was really alone. Right?
Despite being within their mind, it almost felt as though the pipefox had curled across his tamer's shoulders. Several seconds of silence passed, before a small agreement of, right, echoed back. And, with the echo, a ripple of heat flashed across the girl's hands, crawling upward, only to fade out in an almost uncomfortable sensation. An image of rows of teeth -- fangs? Then, silence again.
What should we do? More silence. Kuu?
Huh? The heat set in again, tightly coiling upward to the teen's collarbone, threatening to take away her breath. Oh! Uh! Right! The thing! Do the things! Giving a sharp inhale, a new feeling invaded their thought bubble. Sounds. Was that growling, or screaming? Biomerging must have been giving the poor girl sensory overload! They clearly weren't real! At least the sound died when thoughts stepped over them. But, this is your form. I know it 'bout as well as you do! So, relax, and do the things that our brain says to do! I'll support you and stuff!
The heat faded, again, as her partner's words did also, and the Digimon came to focus on the reality in front of them. Neither had even noticed SkullMammothmon's assault on their orb. The stomping had ceased, and the plasma blast had made quite the impact. Was this the heat that they had been feeling during their 'conversation'? Head turned, to stare in the direction of the source, pressing lips tightly together. It would be so much easier if Digimon came with a manual!
Though, it didn't really seem that they needed one. Miko Mode's belt gave off a small glow of blue, as the Digimon found the suggestion of, "Spirit Strike," coming to the front of their mind. And, with such consent, a liquid-like fox poured from the accessory. And, as the defense gave a small flicker at the loss of energy, the water-element spirit splashed outward. It seemed that the creature's intent was to directly take on the plasma wave! Not that it was big enough to succeed in anything more than that, if at all! But, better it than its host being stuck in an oven!
Crystal Sphere's defense has waned.
Miko Mode used Spirit Strike's water spirit, to attempt to drown out SkullMammothmon X's plasma 'heatwave.'
Spirit Strike: Uses four spirit foxes, one of wind, fire, water, and lightning, to fight for her. Each can withstand a single blow on their own. Can only summon one per post, to a maximum of the four. Cooldown of two posts after all four are defeated.

SkullMammothmon X's cascade of plasma was frankly quite impressive looking. Sparks were peeling off of his body in great, flamelike tongues, wrapping around every shred of bone and metal on his body. His eyes glowed like hellfire, and smoke poured from his mouth with each revenant-esque moan. A lesser Digimon, like the Assaultmon currently cowering an entire hallway down from here, would have probably lost all urge to resist just beholding this spectacle of an attack.
Maia and Kuu were not a lesser Digimon. In the face of such an assault, they didn't even seem to blink. They simply focused, not even raising a weapon, as a blue fox spilled out from their belt. It pounced towards the plasma, water dripping from its spiritual body all the while. It was such a humble attack, and SkullMammothmon X didn't even react to its presence.
Maybe it should have, though, because if it paid the slightest bit of attention it would notice that its attack hadn't even reached Sakuyamon. Instead, the plasma was being doused by just being around the watery fox's presence, steam rising in a towering trail where the attack once stood. What was once a deluge of superheated energy was now little more than a few pitiful sparks, the watery fox skillfully weaving around them as it made its way towards SkullMammothmon X. Its head may have been little more than an empty socket, but its eyes almost seemed to widen in shock as the fox leaped from the plasma surrounding its hands.
The fox slammed right into SkullMammothmon X's skull, and shards of golden metal splintered from the site of impact. In a panic it lunged for the ground, digging its hulking forearms into the ground to help brace itself on one knee. Despite being unable to emote, hatred seemed to radiate off of it as it rotated its head back towards Sakuyamon.
This time it wouldn't be taking any chances. It tore its chest open, leaving its core exposed but allowing its ribs to grow and sharpen to a terrifying size. Then it charged forward like a demon possessed, arms extended outwards. It was almost as if it was trying to seize Sakuyamon in a bear hug, except with less soft plush and more brutal, bone-tipped impalement.
SkullMammothmon X's attack is cleanly pierced through, and the water fox hits it hard. In a rage, SkullMammothmon X tries to impale Hakuuna Maitata like an iron maiden.

Maybe Maia would have found the enemy's attack to be a reason for concern, if she were just a regular bystander. Instead, it was a strange alternation between a slight headache, and complete nothingness. Then again, SkullMammothmon X didn't seem overly impressed with the duo's attack, either. Though, they could both find an appreciation-of-sorts for the outcome. Sakuyamon stood completely still, staring at the results of their own attack. "I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that," it hummed, mostly to itself. Kuu's voice reverberated behind Maia's, almost like a strange echo, despite providing no internal input.
Regardless of how dense tamer and partner were, separately, it seemed they could both pick up on the rage that was pouring off of their target. What should we do? Really, Maia shouldn't expect any input at this point. Why was she trying to ask for any help here? Kuu was being ridiculously quiet! And it was the only time Maia actually wanted him to be loud, too! Ugh! Why was her partner such a hassle sometimes?
And, for a moment, the SuperMega found itself frozen. In part, human-esque alarm at what SkullMammothmon X was doing to its chest. The other part, because one half of a whole just couldn't operate this body without some assistance! That moment was all it would take for such a monster to come barreling at the duo without any hassle! Just as SkullMammothmon X would have been reaching them, mouth opened. Could bones feel breath on them? Surely, they would feel something, as the Miko Mode stood its ground, shouting, "Purifying Fox Dance!" Still, that was no defense! A jet of bright blue flames raced upwards, in front of the Super Mega, with hopes that it would at least stop the monster from wrapping the Sakuyamon in its bones. If given the opportunity, Miko Mode would stagger back a little, in attempts to reach some sense of safety. Otherwise, it would surely feel more than a little pin-prick!
At least Kuu had stepped forward long enough to bark out such a move! Otherwise, they wouldn't have even attempted an attack! But, as the attack rang out, dizziness surged across the tamer's mind. What was
P҉a҉r҉t҉n҉e҉r҉s҉ ҉a҉r҉e҉ ҉f҉o҉r҉ ҉t҉h҉e҉ ҉d҉e҉s҉p҉e҉r҉a҉t҉e҉.҉ Static churned in the back of the biomerge's head, pulsing in and out. "W҉h҉y҉ ҉t҉i҉e҉ ҉y҉o҉u҉r҉s҉e҉l҉f҉ ҉d҉o҉w҉n҉?҉"
What was with this form? Or, was Maia finally just having a long-overdue breakdown? Kuu?
I know! I know! I'm trying to work on it! The fox reassured, rapidly, as the burning sensation began again in Maia's fingertips. Focus on the baddie! I'll do this stuff!
A small argument was made, static crackling again, as if trying to respond to the other voice in the static. Was this 'conversation' in real-time? Or a memory of some sort? "Må¥ßê, ¥ðµ'rê 壵råïÐ ð£ ñð† ßêïñg ålðñê?" And, after such a question was posed, the haze faded out, leaving the Biomerge to try to focus on their enemy once more.
Miko Mode did not evade. Used Purifying Fox Dance when SkullMammothmon got in close range. Will cease fighting back and just get eaten by iron maiden death if you ever call them that name again.

Mere inches away from their face, Maia and Kuu would feel the force of bones snapping shut. The air rushed past with enough force to blow their silver hair back, but thankfully they would not feel the sting of a successful impalement. For whatever it was worth, the Purifying Fox Dance had made its mark. Where the mega once stood there was now only a towering inferno of blue, gnashing ribs occasionally snapping through the flames.
SkullMammothmon X's previously implacable advance had slowed to a stop. Now only the crackling of the fire echoed through the Dark Area facility, more silent than it had ever been since Maia's arrival. As the pile shifted and toppled over, a heavy metal claw sticking through it in a futile attempt at bracing itself, it seemed that this fight may have finally come to an end.
Then a heavy footstep, strong enough to send the whole room shaking, rang out. Slowly SkullMammothmon X had forced itself back onto its feet. With a heavy sweep of its arm it dispersed the flame that surrounded it, revealing that all of its bones had been charred an eerie looking dark teal. Hateful red embers glowed in the back of its eyes, and its head seemed to swivel a little too far for comfort as it locked eyes with Maia and Kuu.
It took another step, the room swaying in panic with this latest heavy thud. As it stepped a ragged sighing noise escaped from its trunk, as if breathing was impossible for the Digimon. Then it took another breath and another step, sending small cracks spreading across the metallic floor. What it had lost in speed, SkullMammothmon X now seemed to make up for in pure force. It continued its glacial advance, step by step, each causing more of a quake than the last. Even as it seemed to be falling apart before Maia and Kuu's eyes, it seemed insistent on continuing its pursuit.
Then it reared back, as if about to fall over. The mammoth paused in this fashion, the red orbs in its eyes narrowing hatefully as it glared at those who stood against it. Then, with all of its might, it brought both fists down against the floor. Metal not nearly designed to endure this much force let out a deep groan of protest, and then started to crumble away shard by shard. What was once a few small cracks was quickly turning into a cascade, and now neither SkullMammothmon X nor Maia and Kuu had much stable ground left to stand upon.
SkullMammothmon X is burned severely. While still up, it looks to be on its last legs. Consumed by pure hatred, SkullMammothmon X smashes the floor to try and take it out from beneath Maia and Kuu.

If it were possible to see the Super-Mega's eyes, the enemy would have seen it squint a little, from the close proximity of snapping ribcages. Luckily, most humanoid Digimon wore a mask that at least covered their eyes, and Miko Mode was no exception! With the opportunity to slip back, the biomerge made sure to be out of iron-maiden range, for whenever their foe surely regained its composure! For a moment, Maia let out a sigh of relief, though she could feel Kuu keep the merge's form tense.
Had they won?
The floor's rattling would inform them that, no. Of course not. When had anything ever been that easy for them? Sliding feet apart, Sakuyamon braced itself for the rattling. At the same time, there was a slight haze that flickered alongside the Digimon, before fading out. Just as it had been about to initiate a move, SkullMammothmon X acted as if it had lost the battle yet again. And then, true to the duo's luck, it revealed to be planning some sort of attack. Lowering their eyes to the floor, Miko Mode scrunched its nose. At least that was an action that both Maia and Kuu completely agreed upon!
He knows we can float, right? Well, we're not going to tell him that!
It was almost hard not to laugh about the matter! Though and inquiry of, "H҉o҉w҉ ҉c҉a҉n҉ ҉y҉o҉u҉ ҉w҉i҉n҉ ҉w҉h҉e҉n҉ ҉y҉o҉u҉ ҉h҉a҉v҉e҉ ҉t҉o҉ ҉p҉r҉o҉t҉e҉c҉t҉ ҉s҉o҉m҉e҉t҉h҉i҉n҉g҉ ҉s҉o҉ ҉f҉r҉a҉g҉i҉l҉e҉?҉" crackled through their headspace again, ruining any moment they would have chosen to snicker. This time, however, the television-esque static faded out far more quickly.
Raising one foot at a time, delicately, the God Man appeared to hover only a few centimeters off the ground. It gave a soft hum, debating on speeding up the process. After all, why not? Would SkullMammothmon doom itself, if it fell without a little encouragement? Eyes fell over the progressing cracks on the floor, body flickering again. The Biomerge seemed to suddenly charge toward its foe, in a last ditch effort to establish a winner. But, as it did, a second image of Miko Mode split off, leaping upward while the other version of itself began to fade out. In an unsurprisingly graceful motion, she swung her leg downward, in hopes to land a very real blow.
After all. That floor was looking awfully weak after being weakened as much as it already was. Maybe a little extra pressure on the skeletal monster was all the encouragement it needed. And, if not? The SuperMega was quite confident that they were starting to get a grip on how this form worked.
Miko Mode used Bewitching Moon Kick on SkullMammothmon X.
Bewitching Moon Kick: Creates a sort of double-vision of Sakuyamon Miko Mode. Builds up energy into a powerful kick placed by the actual digimon, while the other disappears immediately after.

SkullMammothmon X stood its ground as Sakuyamon Miko Mode made her approach. The fox was fast. Frankly, faster than anything SkullMammothmon X had ever seen before. Nevertheless, the mutated mammoth's reflexes were better than they would seem for such a lumbering creature, and it sprang off of its back feet to lunge for the charging priestess with murder in its eyes. Its ribcage flared open again, and it let out a victorious bellow as Sakuyamon played it in a dangerous game of chicken.
Then its ribcage snapped shut like the blade of a guillotine, leaving the priestess locked within. Unstable red energy leaked from SkullMammothmon X's eye holes as it focused all of its power into its Digicore. The core swelled to an immense size, tendrils like lightning crackling from the gaps in its ribcage as SkullMammothmon X focused entirely on overloading itself. Its own rib bones started to crack and crumble away from core-induced backlash, but SkullMammothmon X couldn't bring itself to care. It was focused entirely on revenge against its hated enemy. Soon, content with the level of punishment that it had dealt out, SkullMammothmon X let the attack dropped. Its Digicore receded back down to a manageable size, leaving nothing but cinders behind.
Then SkullMammothmon X felt the golden plates on its skull shatter. All too late, SkullMammothmon X learned that the figure it snared was a mere illusion. The real Sakuyamon Miko Mode had leaped above him, gracefully smashing his skull inwards while he was focused on his own assault. The mammoth buckled down, and along with him so did the floor beneath his feet. The steel let out one last groan of protest, and then shattered to pieces.
SkullMammothmon X did not look good. His skull plate had been utterly shattered, leaving cracked bone barely holding itself together beneath. His ribs had been incinerated by his own overwhelming force, leaving his Digicore weakly flickering against the base of his spine. Smoke continued to rise from his body after several of Sakuyamon Miko Mode's flaming assaults. Even the dark shadows of his eyeholes seemed emptier than usual, probably due to the web of cracks spiraling out from them.
Nevertheless, it seemed even as SkullMammothmon X hurtled to the ground he refused to give up the ghost. In one last gasp of energy he thrust both of his hands outwards, groping furiously for Sakuyamon Miko Mode's ankles. If he was going down, he was taking the biomerged duo with him.
SkullMammothmon X uses an overload of energy towards his Digicore to hatefully incinerate Sakuyamon Miko Mode. Too bad he wasted all of that on a clone. In his distraction, SkullMammothmon X has his skull near-split by Sakuyamon's kick, leaving the floor under him shattered to pieces. With one last move of desperation, SkullMammothmon X tries to drag the duo down to hell with him.

It was amazing the difference between being a tamer, and being up close to the action! In a way, it was more terrifying. While in another, it was far less scary! Then again, Maia wasn't a squishy target anymore! Not to say that she wouldn't feel anything if the monster were to hit her. With every movement that the SuperMega made, she could feel fabrics shift. Or, the crack of armor snapping beneath her leg. Exhilarating. That might be the proper term. It made more sense as to how Isaac and Elliot could run around in Digimon form, without fearing imminent death. It also made more sense as to why Maia should be afraid of it normally.
Trying to shift out of reach of the collapsing Digimon, it seemed that even a SuperMega wasn't always fast enough! One of the beast's hands wrapped around her ankle, dragging her downward. A small squeak escaped Miko Mode's throat, as it attempted to offset the weight and slow their descent. But, with the weight of such a large monster stuck to her, it couldn't keep them afloat forever! Not that she wanted it to! As far as the Super Mega was concerned, there was no salvation for the beast clinging to her.
Ankle burned, not only from the weight of the monster, but from internal turmoils. What do we do? Silence. How frustrating! This isn't how biomerging works, Kuu. You have to participate.
A small groan came from the fox's thoughts, seeming to mull over their options. Not that there were many. Both of them knew that. Mind flickered back to one of their earlier excursions, where a different tamer had crushed their opponent without a second thought. Then, the one with a monster that essentially saved them, after a spirit user had agreed to spare them.
Biting their lip, the God Man had to make a choice on the situation. Is it gonna weigh you down?
Currently is.
Emotionally.
The burning sensation rose up from the point that their burden clinged, spreading outward. Was Kuu feeling it, too? Or was this just an issue with Maia being a foreign presence? Still, she struggled to focus on the issue at hand. After all, Kuu was presenting a legitimate issue, rather than mindless babble!
What about for you?
Vïðlêñ¢ê Ððê§ñ'† §ðlvê ꣵrr¥ 裏µê. That garbled voice again. This wasn't helping any!
You do you, Mai! I'm a bad example!
Also not helpful!
Outside of the D-Reaper. Have you k--? The entire form tensed at the question, answering before Maia could complete the question. Of course they didn't need to finish sentences. Everything could be answered almost as quickly as it was thought! Eyes rolled under the mask, as a soft sigh escaped the Sakuyamon's lips.
"Well, then." A soft glow escaped the Digimon's belt again, soon pouring out in vibrant light, flashing and rapidly altering in shape. No reason to feel guilty. Matching the feeling that was scorching her internally, the fire-element fox flickered close to her skin, before darting downwards. "Spirit Strike." Unlike the fluid motions of its aquatic counterpart, the fire creatures movements seemed fast, and violent. Surely, SkullMammothmon X wouldn't be able to mistake its intent! Especially as it lunged at the hand that was weighing down its owner. Just how hot would it have to be, when it impacted, to convince a bone monster to release its grip?
Sakuyamon: Miko Mode was grabbed by its opponent, and is slowly sinking to who-knows-where.
Miko Mode uses Spirit Strike's fire spirit, to try to 'encourage' SkullMammothmon X to let go.
Spirit Strike: Uses four spirit foxes, one of wind, fire, water, and lightning, to fight for her. Each can withstand a single blow on their own. Can only summon one per post, to a maximum of the four. Cooldown of two posts after all four are defeated.

SkullMammothmon X, for all of his flaws, certainly was persistent. And he did not seem content with the idea of being a passive observer to Maia and Kuu's mental debate. He started straining against the force of Sakuyamon's flight, pumping his body up and down to try and throw off her balance. On one hand, it could not have been pleasant for Maia to look down and see the grisly scene, SkullMammothmon X's rending claws constantly swiping for her and missing. On the other hand, it was a testament to the awe-inspiring power of a biomerge. Despite the size and weight difference between these two, Sakuyamon was able to support the entirety of SkullMammothmon X's weight on nothing but her ankle. Were this a lighter, weaker Mega, such a gambit may not have even been successful.
Thankfully, Sakuyamon wasn't going to be very passive either. While originally tied up in her mental debate, her answer came not in words but in fire. Another spirit fox sprang forth from Sakuyamon's belt pouches, this one made of crackling flame. It shot towards SkullMammothmon X's claw like a bullet, soon lunging directly for the bone at the joints. Unlike the metal plating of the mammoth's head, this hand wasn't exactly the most flammable. For the first few precious seconds it seemed like nothing had happened, beyond the light of the fox illuminating the scars this this battle had etched into the bone.
Then some smoke started to rise up from the mammoth's knuckles. Sure enough, the bone was starting to blacken as the fox spirit's attacks intensified. Each dash, claw, and bite from the fox deepened the shade of black, sending almost charcoal-esque fragments tumbling down into the depths below. With an audible cracking sound the leftmost knuckle snapped, leaving only two of SkullMammothmon X's three claws actually wrapped around Sakuyamon's leg. It windmilled its free arm in a panic, trying to keep airborne, but the writing was on the wall.
With one more snap, echoing through the noiseless halls of the abandoned laboratory, SkullMammothmon X had lost its grip. It fell like a stone, bellowing hatefully and flailing desperately, but no amount of fire or fury could stop it from tumbling into the depths below. In the first five seconds it had faded out of sight, swallowed up by the darkness of floors left unlit. In the next ten, its horrid trumpeting had ceased its echo, leaving Maia and Kuu alone with their thoughts.
Only a single memoir left of SkullMammothmon X's presence; its claws and upper knuckles, wrapped around Sakuyamon's leg like half of a broken shackle.
SkullMammothmon X's knuckle is badly singed. They crack off of the rest of his body, leaving him helplessly tumbling into the abyss. Maia wins!

For a moment, the duo wasn't quite sure if they had won. While Maia should have known heat wouldn't destroy something of bone, it had seemed like a good choice. After all, what was more violent than fire? Shifting her free foot, Miko mode prepared to try to kick at the monster's claw, but the sounds of snaps caused the SuperMega to freeze. For a moment, they paused, to assess what was happening.
So, it seemed that the spirit wasn't completely useless, after all!
Upon finishing its duty, the burning creature sizzled out, a small glitter returning to Miko Mode's belt. "You should have learned how to fly," the duo chimed, clearly primarily input from Kuu. If only he had provided more of his input, earlier! It would have saved so much stress!
But, now that they were in silence, it was probably best to find some proper footing. Raising back to the platform that they had originally been on, feet tapped the cold ground. Stepping away from the cracked portions of the floor, Miko Mode finally had a moment to breathe. And to process.
Was laughter considered processing? Starting as a soft giggle, the God Man soon found itself covering its mouth with its hands. Everything hurt. Yet, they were laughing hysterically. Even Kuu couldn't figure out what was happening! Maia?
No response.
Fingers tensed, tears beginning to streak out from under the yellow mask. Could Digimon cry? Or was this the human portion that was causing such a ridiculous act? Skin felt like it was on fire. They probably needed to de-fuse! But, how did they even do that? Especially when Maia had become unresponsive, beyond her apparent control of the body! Taking a few steps toward the room that their 'friend' had been hiding in, Kuu repeated, Maia? Hey!
And the body stopped. Stopped the laughter, the crying. It had completely halted. Eyes widened beneath its mask, exhaling a soft, "oh," before knees began to buckle. As the form began to fall to its knees, there was a flicker and glow, separating the duo. Separate, the Kudamon whirled around his tamer, attempting to keep her in a position that was still upright. Sitting on her knees, the blonde kept her hands tightly pressed over her mouth, preventing any sounds from escaping, while she stared at Kuu with wide eyes.
"Well! Uh! We won! And. Stuff," the fox chirped, ears rapidly twitching. His head felt funny! That was weird! "Think anyone else is alive?" Preferably of the non-murderous variety!

The hysterical, tear-stained laughter of a broken woman would be disturbing in any other context. Here, the emptiness of the laboratory meant that Sakuyamon's gut-busting laughter and heart-wrenching crying would echo off of the walls, practically surrounding her with the sounds of her own madness. The flickering lights overhead almost made the biomerge look like a phantom, disappearing in and out of sight with each second. The cold, stagnant air, no longer heated up by the intensity of battle, started to settle around Sakuyamon like a clammy fog. While the fight may have ended in a decisive victory, the mood that was being set indicated anything but.
Why did Maia come here? Was it even worth it?
At least she was alone, with only Kuu and Gizumon here to judge her for her decisions. The purple ball, once the fight was finished, was now peeping out of the door it had hid behind to check on the victorious duo. Seeing that its friends came out the victors, Gizumon let out a happy little fanfare. It immediately scampered over to Kuu, leaping around him in circles and flinging what looked like confetti made out of shredded-up newspapers. Sure, the ice under its legs meant this hopping involved a lot of awkward scuttling and flailing, but Gizumon was really too happy to care.
Or it was until it turned to see Maia, its own eye widening to match hers. She looked like a mess, frankly, with how she covered her mouth as if hiding a deep, dark secret. Gizumon hesitantly waved, then toddled up to Maia in order to inspect her. First it ran a green scanning light over her, then decided to go with a more tried-and-true method. Namely, it walked up to her and started gently poking her with one of its spindly legs. That had to get a reaction out of her, right?

The tamer remained silent, staring at her partner, even once Gizumon returned to the scene. Staring at the purple creature, the girl seemed completely frozen for the time being.
Kuu, on the other hand, made a happy chirping sound toward the other Digimon. Eyes twitched, subtly, for a moment. Memories of the spider-esque 'mon overlapped, feeling almost like a double-vision. Except, it didn't seem quite right. Shaking his head, the rookie tried to shake off the strange feeling. It made him kind of nauseated!
But, Gizumon wasn't wrong that he'd get a reaction from poking Maia! Amber eyes followed the Digimon, having remained relatively still even through the scan. Now, body tensed, as a she let out a squeak. As rapidly as one could on ice, the teen shuffled into a sitting position, and slid a few inches away from the purple creature. Hands slipped across ice, careless to if they would drag across any rusty remnants from the battle.
A sinking feeling wrapped itself around the Kudamon's gut, watching his partner. "Maia, it's just Gizu-friend! Don't worry! No more baddies!"
Gizu-friend?
The fox cringed again, feeling his head throbbing. Who would have thought biomerging would give a Digimon a headache? He expected to crave noodles after this, but he didn't think he'd be nursing a migraine!
"What?" Lips remained parted, still staring at Gizumon. Voice carried a confused tone, feeling almost childlike in nature. "I don't--" Eyes blinked rapidly, trying to piece together something that was obviously missing. "Who?" Surely, this wasn't the reaction that Gizumon had been hoping for!
That sinking feeling in Kuu's stomach took full effect, as he kept his eyes locked on Maia. "Uh," the Digimon stalled, unsure if he should try to fix the situation before Gizumon could become heartbroken. But, he wasn't really sure what was going on! Maia didn't sound like she was joking!
Was it worth it?

Who?
Gizumon let out a sad beeping noise, its eye trailing down to the floor and tracing a dejected line down the wall. The poor machine already lived in the middle of nowhere, with centaur riot cops and a gaggle of monstrosities its only companionship. What was it supposed to do now that its only human friend didn't even seem to remember it? The Gizumon started stumbling around, what was supposed to be calm intellectual pacing looking like the Ice Capades due to how frozen the metal floor was. Nevertheless, it had to inspire! How could it possibly get its human friend to remember it?
Then it perked up, having an idea come to mind. It promptly scuttled over to the corner of the room, hunkering down as its eye beam turned from a thin green line to a large blue projection. Soon, a memory from Gizumon's data banks would be played right on Cold Storage's northmost wall. The cracks and destruction all over the wall, as well as Gizumon's own twitchy eye, made the picture quite unclear. However, Gizumon's sound chip was putting in quite a bit of work to try and fill in the missing blanks, even if everyone sounded like they were speaking into a fan.
"H-hello," the holographic Maia said as it looked down at Gizumon, who had fallen on her boyfriend hard enough to knock him out. "Do you think you could... move a little? You're going to squish him."
"Oh. Your 'spider' friend," an older, more worn Maia had said. What would Maia think, seeing her fresh-faced and nervous self followed by Maia Quinn, Warrior Queen in the span of two video clips? It would be like looking into a time portal, if said time portal had been rendered in a broken copy of Windows Movie Maker. "Have you been stuck in there for a while?"
The replays promptly slid to a halt, Gizumon scratching its dome with the tip of his tail. Wait, was that seriously everything? Gizumon promptly realized that it had rather low standards for friends, considering that its interactions with Maia hadn't been very long in either the past or present. Nevertheless, it looked up expectantly at her, as if hoping not one but two recorded instances of interacting with it would end up jogging her memory.
What else could it do? Oh, more inspiration! Gizumon promptly scampered off back into its little storage nook, motioning for Maia to wait because it would be right back. Maybe this would give Maia some much needed solitude, finally apart from any and all of the denizens of this strange facility.

That sad beeping was kind of heartbreaking, really! Eyes remained wide, while the teen bit her tongue to keep herself emotionally stable. Or, as stable as one could be in this situation! "It's okay. I'm sure we're--" What would she even be to a weird spider-mon? "Good friends?" Okay, yeah, no. Something didn't seem right about that! Maia had no idea who this was!
And, even as Gizumon found his solution, Maia had no idea what she was looking at. Was this really what he considered friendship? There were, like, four lines! Surely, this wouldn't be her only interactions with the little creature! If only the blonde knew that it was, and Gizumon clearly wasn't picky with friends. "Oh," she murmured. Did Maia really look and sound like that? Weird. This was all just really weird!
Still, the girl gave a small nod. "Right, I get it now," the tamer commented, as if somehow these images were helping. Meanwhile, Kuu was cringing slightly, having a strange sensation of feedback ringing between his ears. He could certainly remember! But, it felt like it was coming through two perspectives! His own and a taller one! As if looking from the eyes of-- oh. Oh, this was probably a bad thing.
Luckily, Gizumon left soon after, and the Kudamon scooted over to his human. "You don't really 'get it,' do you?"
To this, the blonde shook her head, unblinking, "not at all."
"I think I got it, though! For both of us!" Way to sound optimistic! He was trying to break bad news! "I remember all that stuff! But, uh. Not from me. Also from me! But from you! I think." As far as Maia could tell, the fox was rambling nonsense at this point! "At least, I think I think? I don't know what I think. My head hurts." Good that they were both on the same page, for headaches!
Slowly, the tamer responded with, "right," before falling silent again. Hopefully, the Gizumon would return with some more coherent news!
